    Thanks so much for this video - just the right pace and description! But most importantly for me, are the hints at the end. I was watching because I want to take my gate off and turn it around (so that it hangs from the opposite post). But that post is a single - and you described how, after a time, the gate would move the post! That's great information!
    I still think I'm going to do it - the single post is already leaning the other way - but I love knowing what I'm walking into!

    Lots of good tips here, thank you. I have a double-gate like that --- so that a vehicle could drive through -- that's fairly new but when they installed it they mounted it too low and it drags against the ground. I'll raise it, don't care if the top rails exactly match or not, because I don't plan on digging out the ground alternatively.

    I will be installing a double 4' gate today for a total of 8'. I'm new to chain link but have just done about 180' includind the 18' run with the gates. I have the added challenge of being sure my nephew's chihuaua can't get out anywhere. With luck I have the gate posts set correctly after watching your double gate video. I'm sure I got it wide enough but hope I didn't err too much on the side of caution and set it too wide. We will see here after I finish my coffee and drive the 20 miles to get 'er done. Thumbs up to all your videos!

    Thanks thats the problem in having, gate keeps sagging so i fix it and agaim and again. So i wrmt on yoitube and everyone was talking abput using tension wire to fix a sagging gate. So i was doing that last night. But to me it seemed idk.. Like not a very effective way to keep it from sagging. If the idea of it sagging went through my mind agaim after "fixing' it. Now i know it defenetly will.. Why? Because you explained or said somethimg nobody else had said but ypu. And i watched over 20 videos yesterday and not one said yo not hang the fence off a single post because of sagging and how on the contrary you hang it to the chain link fence side then no more sagging cause the Weight of the fence is greater than that of the gate and single ro. Cause even with cement after a month it sagged.
    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!🙏🌜🙅👍

    Do you have recommendations for dog proofing an aluminum screened patio and screen door? My patio is on the side of my home and I want to limit the pit bulls who are strong to the back and side yard with access to the patio but I don't want them to be able to escape to the front yard through my patio screens. I was thinking of hog wire screwed into the aluminum frame but not sure how to secure the screen door and be able to open from both sides.

    Great video. What’s the spacing needed between the posts to fit the gate between?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 роки тому +4

      It's specific to your gate and hardware. You'll want to measure your gate + your hinges + your latch. Hinges should be measured on the inside dimensions between where the posts would be (don't measure the parts that go around the posts). Fork latch should be measured from where the gate post would be to where you want the terminal post to fall in the fork. Add that all up and you have your post spacing.
      It's really much simpler than I'm making it sound here. 🤣

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  Рік тому +1

      Get your gates & your hardware together and measure gates + hinges + latch. There's no way around the measuring. Don't measure the entirety of the hardware, but the distance between post to frame. For the latch, factor in where you want the gate to be in the fork.

    Hey man, I just recently purchased my first home and the fence around my back yard is 15’ short of my property line all the way around. I Checked for easements and all that and none exist. I was going to push it all back to the line and was curious. I have a 4”x24” auger I used for a different project. Do you think if I hit 2 holes right next to each other and dug any extra dirt out that it would be enough to hold a 5’ tall metal post? I really don’t want to hand dig all these holes lol.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  9 місяців тому

      Er... maybe? 😁
      This is going to depend greatly on where you are in the country. You want enough space between the corners of the post and the edge of the hole--so don't skimp on hole width. And you're definitely going to want to get deep enough--make sure you're getting below frost line. Can you rent a bigger auger? I'm with you--I wouldn't want to hand dig those either!

  • @herbbuckland9223
    @herbbuckland9223 11 місяців тому +1

    You should have explained the needed width of the gate to the width of the space for the gate. Also, keeping the gate off the ground for many a do-it-yourselfer requires that they suspend the gate up with one or more pieces of wood (etc...) since they cannot hold the gate at a given height while tightening the bolts. Let me provide an example: i was asked to re-hang (readjust) a gate that wasn't closing correctly. The gat was 32 inches wide and the space for it was 32 inches wide. The hinges and locking mechanisms being used were so large they had to be contorted to have any semblance of a working gate, but the owner of the property thought they. were needed because they represented extra security. With only a 1-inch gap on each side of the gate, there was no way to use the attached parts requiring at least four inches altogether. Those viewing your video may not choose the correct hardware because of whatever insecurity they may be fostering for safety requirements. And though I corrected the situation, the owner still insisted on putting massive locks along with a massive chain on both sides!
