Homeskoolin’ Volume 153, Tom Bukovac, “When I Get To Heaven”

- Loops while you wait….five tracks start finish in under 35 minutes.
Even though its painful at times when the L plug comes outta the tele jack or a random youtube video starts playing out of nowhere, i thought maybe you guys might get a kick outta seeing the deep inner pain and soul wrestling that goes along with making a typical Homeskoolin’ style loop.
This one features my son’s Jazz Bass and my alltime favorite lap steel…a 30’s Rickenbacker model B
Thanks so much for watching these recent episodes that were brought to you strictly by covid and canceled tour dates.

Everytime I hear the words "lap steel guitar" it reminds me of "David Gilmour pretentious phase", to be more exact the "pronounced belly size David Gilmour" which is definitely not my favorite phase of him (LOL) And saxophones.... bloody fucking hell 🤣🤣🤣 Don't allow that to happen to your life too whoever is reading this (we will all reach that stage eventually and it fucking sucks, and the lower back pains, and the heartburn...)
Jeff Healey 🙏🙏 put his own twist on it
wow, you got plenty of "attitude" my friend.....i could not disagree with you any more regarding this matter (and probably many others no doubt)....do NOT come up in here talkin' shit on Dave Gilmour.... you will be promptly sacked
@@501chorusecho Fair enough \o/ That's not too unreasonable \m/
@@501chorusecho Sarcasm doesn't translate very well to text I guess, I respect musicians' works but I don't put any of them in a pedestal, I will mock them and make satire of every single one of them 🤣🤣🤣 (I'm sorry it sounded like something else)
@@501chorusecho I was 6 years old Air Guitar-ing to Gilmour's "Coming Back to Life" intro... I know about the guy, don't worry XDDD it's just mindless fun
I’ve been playing for 45 years and the impact you’ve had on my playing can not be put into words, so I’ll only say for me and many others “Thank you for bringing us into your home and sharing your infinite experience and incredible skills on the guitar”
right on bro....thanks for the kind words
@@501chorusecho I know you hate gear questions but what is that Trem? Pedal, amp, your mind controlling the waveforms? Beautiful composition!
Spot on, and same for me.
@@501chorusecho So, so true. Creating art before our very eyes and ears; it's magic. Huge thanks, Tom for every lesson and video right from the start. Grateful, and much obliged to you.
I've seen a lot of people building and playing loops, but I can't remember the last time I felt so moved by the final performance.
Good point. Most of the youtube loopers I’ve seen could take a lesson here, especially UL’s use of dynamics and tonal variety within and across tracks
why does it have to always descend down into a competition?? there's no competition... this is one of the reasons why ROCK MUSIC has been "dead" for quite some time, we need to unite in strength more than ever
@@FeelingShred I was in a Billy Sheehan workshop @ NAMM years ago - he said: remember music is not like an athletic competition of you against other players, just try and be your best you.
A true genius at work. Nothing you do is long and boring but in fact fascinating and inspirational. You are a true Gem in this crazy world.Your creativity is second to none!
“Don’t ever write something you can’t play” - good advice for art and life Tom. Beautiful today as usual.
Wait, I almost ALWAYS write stuff that challenges me, that's how I grow in my writing and playing.
@@johnvcougar Me too. Even if I will never play them publicly, I always write stuff that is extremely difficult to play. That’s the closest thing to “practicing” that I do to improve.
@@darwinsaye I love the Buk, but sometimes disciples should perhaps think laterally before taking off-the-cuff remarks and turning them into gospel, IMHO. No offence to anyone.
@@johnvcougar in practice yes, challenge yourself. Tom is putting on a performance in which context he said “don’t write what you can’t play” which makes sense. Of course you would practice something you can’t play. Life, is also often a performance hence the analogy. Don’t take on more than you can handle in essence. It’s akin to saying “you got to dance with the girl you brought.” It’s one side of the coin - the performance, your comment is the other side of the coin - the practice.
@@_R_A_ (head-scratch) All good, bro! Love the Buk! We should take all his memorable quotes and write The Book of Buk! 😜
As always there isn’t a thing you do I don’t get a huge amount of inspiration from. Thanks for that.
I think this video is my favourite of everything you've done so far! ... Wonderful insight into your workflow and the thinking behind each color you add to the canvas... it still amazes me how rapidly you work, from finding the perfect tone to compliment what you've already got, thinking up a an idea, learning to play it, then slotting it in place like a jigsaw piece... so impressive, thank you for sharing this! 😊 ... Also, please get the after market replacement jack ring for your tele (the one with the screw attachment) ... it took me 10 minutes to fit one for a friend, costs about $10 and will save you risking a heart attack every time you go for a beer!! Lmfao 😂😂😂
you should get Benjamin Gibbard to sing over that. this has him written all over it
If Uncle Larry could only get bass gigs, there must be some badass players in Cleveland.
I love that the only thing in your American double fridge is a box of beer .
Rock on man 🤟
That and the neon sign suggest that this isn't the main house kitchen...
Solid gold...! Layers of sweet melancholia...and that lapsteel at the end, oh man!! Now all we need is a sunset to ride into... Thanks Tom!
“Layers of sweet melancholia” well said Claus.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing

So good. Music to dream to.
Most of your lessons are above my pay grade but that doesn't mean I won't get there one day. Thanks for all you do Uncle Larry.
Even the stuff I cannot play is still so inspiring it’s all worth it.
I hear you Sean
Incredible

Funniest video I’ve seen in a long time, Tom! Thanks a bunch!
What a master class 🤩
So sweet to see how you build and feel your loops. Awesome!🔥🎸
Yes sir! Seeing you work through this is very insightful. You’re the man uncle Larry!
love it thx!
That song was just what I needed. It sounds how I feel. Thanks Uncle Larry.
Great way to start my morning here in Perth Tom.
Thanks.
I'm turning up late to the classes but just had to comment on this one... an absolute masterclass, so much to learn from watching you weave your magic. Your videos are transforming the way I think about my playing.
Lyrics and melody just ooze from that track from the first loop. Outstanding again Sir.
This is the best effing thing on the internet….this is reality TV right fellow Schoolers!?
Hey Tom, so much information and enjoyment at the same time. This kind of made my day. You are such a gem
This was a special one Tom. Great tune you just laid down by the way.
Thank you Tom.
Really enjoy this. Every time I watch it.
Just like that. So good.
Uncle Larry's morning meditation, music. ❤
Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your process, Uncle Larry. Very cool.
Absolutely beautiful piece! And happy to finally got to see you play lapsteel, awsome feel Larry!
That was a magic 35 mins, UL! Top class! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Uncle Larry. Was really nice playin' along with you. Super nice melody there. You are one of the greats no doubt.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, right on Buko
Actually enjoyed the heck out of this video. Very informative and inspirational. Loved watching your creative process and how you can create music from a blank slate. Magical.
Thanks for giving us the inside view!
Love the loops for us to play along with.
After watching this brilliant work of art put together makes me feel like I need a lap steel. That was spectacular , the best thing I’ve watched in a while. Thanks Tom.
I love how you're talking through your thought process.
Thank you Uncle Larry for an insight of your looping session for Inspiration of the foundation, of the feel and groove. Never stop being you. Thank you
Man, another little whipped together gem!! This had all sorts of wisdom sprinkled throughout. Inspiring as always! Breaking out the looper tomorrow!!
Infinitely inspiring, useful and applicable...
This are 💎 and I can't tell you how much this means and inspire uncle Larry!
Aloha and blessings from Maui! 🤙🙌
can’t exaggerate how good this is, what a gift to be able to witness it. thanks Tom, made my day, again
That was awesome
GREAT STUFF!
I love this song so much. I revisit this video often. Thank you.
Just got home after a weekend in Edinburgh, where I made the mistake of picking up a single dog ear custom shop P90 SG and now I’ve got major GAS. This is helping distract me from planning a trade 😅 Love the long form videos. Looping is such a weak spot for me, this one’s the perfect example of why Homeskoolin’ is a great way to learn. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Uncle Larry thats super cool, greetings from the UK. Thanks pal ❤
Sweet!!! It's great to watch a master at work!! 1 take Tommy!!
Hey Uncie Larry....thanks for yet another scalp peeling video! This is an incredible look into the fruit of decades of dedication. Thank you so much for sharing.
legendary. these homeskoolin videos are top notch. this channel is like one of those things where you didn't know you were missing something until you found it. Uncle Larry's content fills a void. Not your normal riff a day, product demo, or recording/gear advice channel. It's the overall musician experience and knowledge sharing...doesn't hurt that he's an AMAZING guitarist. That jam that he did with Guthrie on Brett Papa's channel was amazing. If you havent watched that video yet, you need to see it
The phrasing on the lap-steel!!! Brilliant composition, Tom. Thanks for sharing your process.
What a class! Composition, riffs, arrangement, this one has it all. Thanks for doing this. I love how you’re talking us through your thought process as you are creating. Amazing! Cheers Mr. Starship Trooper
Little Tommy B ,inspirational as always,🍺✌🏻
Exceptional viewing Lar. You must be the best in the biz, that is just incredible. Actually a very moving piece of music. Thank you.
Uncle Larry, I’m on vacation in Mexico right now and I still choose to relax by watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your creative process with us.
This is a true example of your creativity in a recording situation. It comes so natural for you!
An absolute outstanding snapshot and insight into your approach and your playing. Great to see how you build up musical ideas into layers, and watch it evolve into a superb composition. I had to learn it and then consequently sat happily for hours, just noodling over the changes along with you. I swear I could almost taste that cold beer.
Beautiful steel playing
Beautiful melodic loop Tom. So cool hearing / seeing the weaving together. You my friend are a Songcatcher for sure!
Thank You.
Incredible musician
You’re the shit uncle Larry 🤘
Would love to see more videos like this. Learned so much just watching your thought process. Man this is pure gold!
Such a brilliant musician, thanks so much for letting us into your kitchen and listen to you do your thing.
You just gave us a masterclass Larry! Your good taste and melodic sensibilities are a thing of beauty, not to mention recording and producing on the fly. Thanks for inspiring us.
33 minutes & 38 seconds of glorious goodness and another candidate for Plexi Soul II. Thanks Tom.
Very different lesson, yet your philosophies and methods remain consistent and shine through. great teacher.
Yes! Insights into the writing process from Uncle Larry. I dig the longer format, no qualms sitting through this at all, feel free to ladle it on, brother! ❤
I can't imagine a more soulful playing
Hey Uncle Larry, not long, not boring. Love to see the master at work. Thank you for all your videos. Greetings from Bonn, Germany. Yours Arne
I love this...like watching DaVinci say..."here is how I painted the Last Supper and all those other neat paintings...."
So we’ll said. A truly genius artist at work sharing.
