JetLagWarriors is a Canadian couple - Steve and Ivana. After travelling here and there for a few years, mostly during Canadian winter, we fully caught the travel bug and decided to travel INDEFINITELY! Subscribe to keep up with our journey. We will be budget travelling- hostels and air BnB's and street food and the whole bit. Thanks!
You know, every time I visit my grandmother, I went to eat Mee Bodo with my family. Trust me, you don't want to eat there during Saturday and Sunday because many people will storm the place for breakfast and the line will be long. That's number one.
Number two is, the reason we, Melaka people called it " Mee Bodo" because there's nothing in it. Just fried noodle with taugeh ( bean sprouts ). When people cooked fried noodle, they put chicken or meat but not this one. They cooked Mee Bodoh using the sambal's leftover oil that you guys eat. That's why your lips starting to burn when you eat mee bodo.
The third is, it is recommended if you mix vinegar, soy sauce and the sambal when you eat mee bodo. The result is heaven-like.
In conclusion, Mee Bodo deserved the title of fried noodle that 'stupidly good'
This comment was spot on! Absolutely right, -- stupidly good is the best description! Wish I could give this one two hearts, lol
@@JetLagWarriors I think you literally double hearted the parent comment because it has none now 🤣
this statement is the best to describe mee bodo is
@@azmeenafandi lol.. man of his words, really walk the talk.. 😂😂😂
yea totally agree... Melaka is my hometown, when every i go back there mee bodoh will be everyday breakfast for us :D
In case no one has said this to you guys, yes, "bodoh" means "stupid". Colloquially "bodo" or "buduh"
When used on food, it means plain. So "mee bodoh" is "plain noodles." As in, almost nothing else in the dish aside from noodles. No veg, no meat, no fishcake, etc, aside from the sauces flavouring said noodles "what did you eat?" "just some mee" "what kind of mee?" "mee bodoh"
As such, "bodo" could be applied to any other food to denote plainness. "Kek bodoh" is simple pound cake. "Biskut bodoh" plain dry biscuits.
So, bodoh here not really stupid, but more of "nothing fancy".
As a Malaysian, i second this.
150% correct..
200% correct
"Bodoh" also mean unknownladge.. So "mee bodoh" or what ever dishes with "Bodoh" means been prepared in simple ways with basic ingredients..
It is usually used as an expression for something that is plain and looks unassuming that even a "bodoh" or stupid person can make it or cook it. But then by the time you eat it or use it(for things) you'll feel "bodoh" or stupid for doubting the food or thing because it is so delicious or useful (for things)
I love Steve's enthusiasm for food and Ivana calmness to control him. Perfect combo! Hahaha
Hahaha..ivana is always there for calming presence.
lol! We work well together 😍
The shoe crabs asam pedas is very nice and yummy...pls try the shoe crabs asam pedas👍👍👍👍👍...
My suggestion for the 7 months food experience
1) Top 5 nasi/noodles
2) Top 5 traditional food e.g. lemang, ketupat, satar, keropok lekor, satay etc
3) Top 5 kuihs
4) Top 5 roti
5) Finale: Top 5 foods u must have in Malaysia
Good ideas. Thanks for sharing this

Nowadays, with Covid 19 and my sick condition, i kinda "travel" via travel vlogs like you guys been doing.
And not to mention promoting Malaysia that made me remember how wonderful still is my country.
Thank you very much JetLags.
thank you for watching! we are glad to hear that you can “travel” through our videos. I hope your health will get better😊
@@JetLagWarriors thank you. That means a lot. Stay safe, stay healthy and happy travels!
I JUST HAD MY DINNER!, why am I salivating while watching you are having that Asam Pedas.
Because asam pedas is SO GREAT! Yum yum
Satay is usually just char-grilled skewered chicken, beef or lamb. Satay celup (only found in Melaka) is skewered meat and vegetables cooked and dipped in peanut sauce, very much like 'luk'luk' (like you said). Luk-luk is Cantonese for 'cooked by dipping in boiling water'. So the main difference between the two is the dipping.
Keep on exploring and enjoying. I sure am enjoying along with you!!! Keep healthy and safe.
thank you
The way Steve describing the foods at asam pedas, yess just like typical malaysian, you have many2 favorites.
The craving will come at certain time, in certain moods or weather.

This mee goreng is around since early 1970's. Those who was schooling at Anglo Chinese School (ACS) knew the seller Mat Epok and Hassan mee goreng years back. The fried mee have been around for years and are very popular among formerACS boys.

Your analysis on those 3 different types of food was just amazing and enticing too.. I've never tried that Melaka mee bodoh ( though I only live some 20 km away from the stall) but surely I'm gonna try it this weekend..
hope you enjoy it! 😊
Thank you for the video. Now I'm craving the foods and need to plan a trip to Melaka 😁😁 . Mi bodo, like the previous comment got its name because its ingredient-less, and can be 'mind-lessly' fried without having to think about the meat etc. Glad you enjoyed Malaysian food. Keep it up! Going far south of Peninsular Malaysia next I believe.
yes, we love how different state got its own specialty food! Definitely check out Melaka for food👍

Mee bodoh ✅
Sate celup ✅
Chicken rice ball ✅
Coconut shake klebang ✅
Dodol melaka ✅
Mee Bodoh actually means simple noodle, as the noodles are fried the basic way but ridiculously good.
Don’t forget to have a tour to mini malaysia and croc farm!
6 out of 6! Awesome. Melaka has been so great to us!
JetLag Warriors if you haven’t had the chewy version of dodol, don’t forget to have it as your sweet candy-like snack. And experience eating chunky gula melaka just like that!
Hope you got a sweet tooth guys!
As a malaccan, I am so happy to see it ppl come and enjoy our foods 👏🏻 💃🏻
So good! Malaysia is making us gain weight lol
Wait for awhile for steve to taste his first spoon ....and uttered.....hmmm is sooo good, I loved to hear that moment.😋😄😀😁.

Im a Singaporean but my mum is from Malaysia and i speak malay fluently. Thank you for sharing your journey im a fan.

every trip to melaka especially Mee Bodoh, 2 plate is a must for me + eggs and sambal..me and my wife 4 plates easily hahaha
Ah my hometown. Really haven't been there for a while due to MCO. Don't know if they're still in business but there's a stall in the town of Jasin that's only open on Saturdays in the night market that serves up a mean bowl of soto. The guy running it has been in business since the 70's and is my go to spot when I'm in Melaka.
Wow..7 month in malaysia..long journey..steve and ivana..when you came back to canada..we will miss video you about malaysia..please come again next time..
we love malaysia, and will for sure come back. Please still watch our videos even when we are not in Malaysia. But I have a feeling we will be here for a while. No complaints!😊
You guys really enjoy eating malaysian food. Steve also start to like n taste fish haha
Malaysia is food heaven!
malam ni aku nak pergi makan asam pedas lah....lapar terus....
🙌🙌🙌
Wow...the asam pedas my favourite and swallowing my sliver...i know its good just looking at it..
Mee Bodoh is called because of its simplicity.
It is only yellow egg noodle cooked with oil and sambal tumis (nasi lemak sambal), that's it.
No meat or seafood as other fried noodle has, also no vege.
The best thing, the fried egg is cooked by oil that been used to cook sambal previously.
That why we need to customise your own mee bodoh to suit your taste bud, that the perfect way to eat.
Yummy 😋😋😋
Look so delicious and lovely time
I’m new here and nice to meet you
I’m here to support you my friend
🔔👍☺🌸
"Mee bodoh" is a child menu since children do not like onion, vegetables or meat of any kind or spicy but the noodle itself. It could be mee with only soy sauce or tomato sauce. No frying required.
All the best foods in melaka and malaysia, in general....simply our favourite, yummy
malaysia is food heaven
D claypot asam pedas looks amazing n inviting. Must be delicious.

Hahaha.. so goooddd Steve and Ivanaaa.. love you guys. Stay safe ok.. and yeahhh dont forget to wear your mask all the time because Malaysia has just enforced the fack mask and you can be compounded for RM1000 for each person..

thanks for the recommendation!
The real name for Mee Bodo is Mee Hasan (the name of the owner), it has been around since 1970's, its my childhood food. It was called Bodoh/Stupid due to its nature, so simple yet so tasty, you can stupidly make it without anything fancy but still delicious. I used to stay near that stall and the owner is our childhood friend. Most Malacca ppl eat fried noodle with vinegar and soy sauce. the soy sauce there called "kicap lemak", lemak in this soy sauce means "savoury". Its not fat actually. Happy that u like the food from my hometown.
Since you arrived late, you miss the nasi lemak there which exceptionally good too
