If you wonder why ayam kampung (village/rural chicken) has tougher meat, it is because rural chicken roaming around at free will. Unlike poultry chicken they are more like institutionalised chicken. Living and growing all their life in specialized compound, sometimes never see the outside world. So poultry chicken is not moving around so much. Just eat, sleep and keep growing indoor. Rural chickens are more adventurous, facing and fighting back predators ( so true, I was lucky to saw one event years back. A cock fending off a snake to protect the flock. And winning!) And they are smarter. So their muscles are firm and solid. That is why rural chicken has tougher meat. More healthy to eat. As for frog fruit, different state or ethnic has different name for it. As for Selangor based, primarily Javanese ethnic origins, my folks call them Nam-Nam fruit. Loved by the kids at my village.

D serunding, d spicy meat floss, looks really delicious. It goes well with ketupat, lemang, nasi impit, kuah kacang (peanut sauce) n chicken or beef rendang.
Laksa and Laksam for Kelantanese version is similar, just the noodle is different in shape. Laksa is more similar to noodle while laksam is like you roll it big and cut it vertically. Both use the same 'soup' or you call it kuah, it is 'santan' or coconut based kuah. While the orange colour laksa that ivana speak of is maybe Penang's version of laksa. The kuah is different than kelatan's kuah
Laksa and laksam both have fish base sauce on them so will be amazed if Steve actually love it. Singgora is a really exclusive guest stay for you to enjoy kampung scenery and atmosphere. It’s actually quite hard to have Ayam Kampung in the city as this type of chicken is grown without additional food to increase the meat volume. My favourite combination of nasi kerabu is having it with grill beef, pickled garlic, solok lada, fish cracker, and fried fish in batter. Don’t forget to have breakfast at pok mat pulau pisang and have their honey teh tarik.
I know jetlag warrior are very exciting eating Kelantan ayam percik..... Ivana I very slaute to u because very time you taste the new dishes..... Your mind never reject on your tongue.....
Kelantan food more to sweet taste & less spicy.. if your see normal typical food that can be found around Malaysia so the taste will be similiar.. but if u found speciality food of Kelantan than u will taste more sweet & less spicy than other regions..
Rose laksam is my Favorite place. The lady serving you are the owner. She also sells the laksa. Should asked her what are condiments (unless you had asked.) It was cucumber jullien cuts not young mango. For spicier add the chillies & belacan mixed in the bowl infront Ivana. Mark Wein ate there in his last visit.
Singgora is the the traditional clay roof of old Kelantan houses. I read because they are used to be made in Songkla (sounds like singgora) or the masters are from there

Steve, another method of our way eating sour mango is by dipping it in sugar + soy sauce mixture. that could be the trick for you to eat since you are not into rojak sauce. Just take sugar, put soy sauce just enough to make the sugar granule turn black, then mixed it. Then take the mango and scrub the mixture onto the mango and eat.
Hi steve n ivana..the moment i saw u guys in kelantan, i have no choice but to subscribe to your channel..hahaha...hope u will have great time in my hometown kelate...!!!
I agree with you about the sugar in the drink, in Malaysia most people put sugar in the drink by default, you gotta remind them several times about no sugar or less sugar in your drink and it's best to remind them when they are in the process of preparing the drink 😀😀
If you have the time, try visit pantai cahaya bulan and try the udang celup tepung and sotong celup tepung and coconut shake. It's pretty good ngl. And with the beach wind breezing through, nice experience.

Nice of you guys going back to Pasar Siti Khadijah top floor to try the local dishes sold there as I suggested. 👍😋 Ivana observation is correct. Laksam broth is thicker and creamier cause there is Santan (coconut milk) in it. That’s the main ingredient that makes it different from Laksa broth. It’s ok if you are not into it, Steve. I am not into it also but I like Laksa. Nice eating outing. 👍👍😋😋🤤🤤😃
No. Both have fish but only Laksam broth have coconut milk in it. As the old lady said the top broth pot have Santan (this is the broth she put in your Laksam plate) and the young lady said Laksa Penang , Laksa Lemak (to differentiate between the two broths) which means Laksa Penang broth is used for the normal Laksa and Laksa Lemak broth (Lemak=fat/creamy) is used for Laksam. There is also a third type of Laksa which is called Laksa Lemak which basically used the normal Laksa noodle but with the Laksam broth. So Laksa Lemak broth is used for both Laksa Lemak dish and Laksam dish.
Steve and Ivana, i'm in Kota Bharu too. Maybe you can try eat Nasi Sup + Daging/Ayam Bakar Kuah Colek near Kelantan River. If you wanna ask the local, ask them where is Panggung Lido (old cinema, now it's gone but most older people would know that place) This meal consist of 1) Normal white rice 2) Beef soup (most probably calves part of the cow) 3) Either choose Daging Bakar or Ayam Bakar with kuah colek. Kuah colek here means a chili sauce but different kinda chilli sauce. It might be a good experience for you to try. Better if you go there after 12 noon. But not tomorrow because tomorrow is Friday. And you know friday in Kelantan is weekend, most shops will be closed
The dish we called rojak Buah in Malay you dip into soy sauce mix some other portion like sugar, lemon juice ,prawn paste n hot chillies like cabai burung makes it spicy make mouth watering🤤
Yes may be but the portion sometime not the same in Kelantan may be they put Fish juice Budu in other part of Malaysia they add peanuts powder n some add shrump juice its depends but anyway to me its so hard to stop eating until the sauce finish😋
Ayam kampung = free range chicken that eats whatever food it finds and always full mature adult chickens (4-6 months). That's why the meat is a lot tougher than modern husbandry chickens (45 to 60 days)
The "frog fruit" is botanically known as Cynometra Cauliflora, also known as namu-namu (Indonesia) or nam-nam (Maldives). We have this tree in my parents' place in Ipoh. It's found mainly in northern Peninsula Malaysia.
Olden days Kelantanese used Semutar instead of Tanjak for the self-defense..In fact Semutar is used as a weapon in Silat.Im not so sure but i think Tanjak is more famous in West Coast Malaysia..like nasi Lemak and Mamak Restaurant which are more popular there..Kelantan has its own identity and culture.
semutar is the traditional dress of the people of kelantan in ancient times, most muslims cover their heads and this is a matter of religion passed down from generation to culture the islamic community to cover their heads
Actually if you couldnt handle the rojak sauce, just try one only with mixture of soy sauce, sugar and some grounded chillies.. its taste good with the fruits

After watching this episode, I was like "where's the next one!!" 20mins plus are definitely not enuff for me watching u guys. Jetlag Warriors is like a more likeable version of Thomas & Sheena from Chasing A Plate, and very close to our heart.
People ♥️ both of u bcoz the way u appreciate everything. Not to mention dat both of u are very sweet & adorable too😊 Your vlogs isnt just about food. You show true passion & love in doing them. I believe you will get to 100k subs in no time.
Wow! Thank you so much for the compliments. Wow, reading this makes us very happy. And to be compared with Chasing A Plate, who we look up to and also our source of inspiration. Thank you!❤️
Food all the way. You're going to miss Malaysia after this, especially the eating and drinking
for sure we will miss Malaysia!

whoah! You will love the food here. Delicious and cheap!
14:44 Frog Fruit ~ Cynometra cauliflora
The best experienced... Proud of you guys...
we love Malaysia!!
Laksam one of my favourite food when i go to kelantan🤤🤤❤️
D serunding, d spicy meat floss, looks really delicious. It goes well with ketupat, lemang, nasi impit, kuah kacang (peanut sauce) n chicken or beef rendang.
someone even said with bread! Yum!
@@JetLagWarriors It's even good as a snack.
Nice.. You guys already tried Nasi Kerabu Kelantan, and buah Katak Puru (Cynometra cauliflora) is one of my fav.
wohoo!🙌🙌 Can’t believe there are many more food we haven’t tried yet!!
@@JetLagWarriors yeah.. Still alot of food and place
Buah Katok Puru sedapp.😋
Been waiting this video. Hahahaha : )
thank you! Hope you enjoy it.
I luv laksam and nasi dagang.
I like your honest review!
thank you so much
Laksa and Laksam for Kelantanese version is similar, just the noodle is different in shape. Laksa is more similar to noodle while laksam is like you roll it big and cut it vertically. Both use the same 'soup' or you call it kuah, it is 'santan' or coconut based kuah.
While the orange colour laksa that ivana speak of is maybe Penang's version of laksa. The kuah is different than kelatan's kuah
yes, we had laksa with red base soup
You guys so cute and sporting..enjoy
Nice looking in semutar, Steve.
Ivana, youre a champ in food. ..can detect a little chicken stock in the laksam sauce.... score!
Thank you and thank you!😊
terbaik boss......sedap tuh,steady.......
Don’t forget to have breakfast at pok mat pulau pisang and have their honey teh tarik.
whoah have you stayed at Singgora before? Amazing place!
Great stuff... Good job both of you..
thanks!
Next for you guys is colek-colek (all kinds of deep fry battered-seafood) serve with chilli sauce..
colek colek party next!
nice vlog again! i love the beef soup so much and also nasi kerabu with smoked beef. btw pity ken didnt follow you today.
thank you! We will make a video with him again soon😊
So many interesting things to see, do and eat!
abundance country to visit!
I know jetlag warrior are very exciting eating Kelantan ayam percik..... Ivana I very slaute to u because very time you taste the new dishes..... Your mind never reject on your tongue.....
Kelantan food more to sweet taste & less spicy.. if your see normal typical food that can be found around Malaysia so the taste will be similiar.. but if u found speciality food of Kelantan than u will taste more sweet & less spicy than other regions..
sweet and salty...great combo!
Rose laksam is my Favorite place. The lady serving you are the owner. She also sells the laksa. Should asked her what are condiments (unless you had asked.) It was cucumber jullien cuts not young mango. For spicier add the chillies & belacan mixed in the bowl infront Ivana. Mark Wein ate there in his last visit.
oh so cool! We ate where Mark Weins ate! Thanks!
the fact that what steve cannot eat ivana is always there to eat it. you two complete each other
hi, I just subscribed to your channel. Btw I am from Kelantan
hello! Welcome to the channel. Thanks so much!
@@JetLagWarriors You guys should visit Pasir Mas and have breakfast or lunch there !
@@fikrikim6648
Agreed!! I live in Pasir Mas.. The foods is heaven❤
You had great fun n experience. Steve you look awesome with the singora
haha thank you. The headgear is called semutar.
Singgora is the the traditional clay roof of old Kelantan houses. I read because they are used to be made in Songkla (sounds like singgora) or the masters are from there
@@JetLagWarriors once upon a time ago there is always small axe inside the semutar use as secret weapon... if there is any fight the semutar man will hit the enemy head with this small axe caused minor injury.. They always wear it while attend bull, sheep, & cock fight arena etc to gamble.. Kelantan is rich with their past living heritage... Have a nice day
Steve, another method of our way eating sour mango is by dipping it in sugar + soy sauce mixture. that could be the trick for you to eat since you are not into rojak sauce. Just take sugar, put soy sauce just enough to make the sugar granule turn black, then mixed it. Then take the mango and scrub the mixture onto the mango and eat.
thanks!
Hi steve n ivana..the moment i saw u guys in kelantan, i have no choice but to subscribe to your channel..hahaha...hope u will have great time in my hometown kelate...!!!
wow, thank you so much!!!😊
welcome to kelantan heaven of food guys..
thank you!
I agree with you about the sugar in the drink, in Malaysia most people put sugar in the drink by default, you gotta remind them several times about no sugar or less sugar in your drink and it's best to remind them when they are in the process of preparing the drink 😀😀
Your Malaysian fans are going to miss the two of you so much when you leave...
Please keep following our journey!🙏
OMG nasi kerabu super yummy...so craving..
If you have the time, try visit pantai cahaya bulan and try the udang celup tepung and sotong celup tepung and coconut shake. It's pretty good ngl. And with the beach wind breezing through, nice experience.
Sounds nice! We will try
I like budu with ulam jering
yeah laksam it is so delicious... u should try another food in kelantan
any recommendations?
JetLag Warriors Nasi Ulam Cikgu at Kampung Kraft Tangan ( in Kota Bharu). What’s important is have a Budu. But tomorrow it is closed and it will open back on Saturday. It was famous nasi ulam cikgu in kota bharu
Good job brother. Love from South Malaysia. Johor.
I know this is non related but ivana drop that skincare routine sis! Hahahhaha even with the harsh weather and oily oillllyyyyy food she still look gojes sis!
😂thank you...no skin care routine. Just wash with face soap before bed! - Ivana
JetLag Warriors and the brand of the face soap is....?? haha 😂 u just came back from perhentian but u didnot hav sunburnt. do u use sunscreen?
The Handicrapped Stain haha 😅
Nice of you guys going back to Pasar Siti Khadijah top floor to try the local dishes sold there as I suggested. 👍😋
Ivana observation is correct. Laksam broth is thicker and creamier cause there is Santan (coconut milk) in it. That’s the main ingredient that makes it different from Laksa broth. It’s ok if you are not into it, Steve. I am not into it also but I like Laksa.
Nice eating outing. 👍👍😋😋🤤🤤😃
But laksa also has coconut milk in it, right?
If you wanna ask the local, ask them where is Panggung Lido (old cinema, now it's gone but most older people would know that place)
This meal consist of
1) Normal white rice
2) Beef soup (most probably calves part of the cow)
3) Either choose Daging Bakar or Ayam Bakar with kuah colek. Kuah colek here means a chili sauce but different kinda chilli sauce.
It might be a good experience for you to try. Better if you go there after 12 noon. But not tomorrow because tomorrow is Friday. And you know friday in Kelantan is weekend, most shops will be closed
oh thank you! Sounds delicious!
The dish we called rojak Buah in Malay you dip into soy sauce mix some other portion like sugar, lemon juice ,prawn paste n hot chillies like cabai burung makes it spicy make mouth watering🤤
So is that the same as the one we ate with the fruits?
Yes may be but the portion sometime not the same in Kelantan may be they put Fish juice Budu in other part of Malaysia they add peanuts powder n some add shrump juice its depends but anyway to me its so hard to stop eating until the sauce finish😋
I like most food in kelantan. So delicious...
same!!
Ayam kampung = free range chicken that eats whatever food it finds and always full mature adult chickens (4-6 months). That's why the meat is a lot tougher than modern husbandry chickens (45 to 60 days)
Healthy free range chicken👍
The "frog fruit" is botanically known as Cynometra Cauliflora, also known as namu-namu (Indonesia) or nam-nam (Maldives). We have this tree in my parents' place in Ipoh. It's found mainly in northern Peninsula Malaysia.
ah how lucky that you have the tree. I heard that it’s rare to find.
Yeah, we have never seen semutar until we came to Kelantan!
semutar is the traditional dress of the people of kelantan in ancient times, most muslims cover their heads and this is a matter of religion passed down from generation to culture the islamic community to cover their heads
Thanks guyss..inspired
Those r yummy meals....👍👌❤️❤️
Love exploring Malaysian food👍YUM!
Actually if you couldnt handle the rojak sauce, just try one only with mixture of soy sauce, sugar and some grounded chillies.. its taste good with the fruits
we will try that next time!
Even as a local, We really enjoy your food+travel videos. Feel free to explore Malaysia, Truly Asia. We wish that we cross paths with Steve & Ivana soon. :)
Thanks so much😊
It's too bad that Steve could not proceed with the laksam. It's delicious but I guess it's an acquired taste. I think the red gravy laksa would fare better. Great to see you guys enjoying Malaysia & your videos re-awakened the local tourism scenes of Malaysia which we tend to forget as many Malaysians are vacationing overseas before the Covid-19 pandemic came by.
You may have missed out on Yati Ayam Percik, but the guesthouse experience looked incredible!
yeah! incredible food in the guesthouse. So fresh and all organic! We will have to make it to Yati as well!
ayam kampung is similar to wild rooster..it's rare in some part of the state..if you want to eat it you have to go hunting for it in the jungle..
whoah! jungle chicken!
the fruit is easily found in Kelantan - buoh katok puru . Katok Puru if translate is Toad because of its look.
