FIRST TIME trying Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Minyak in Terengganu! + Learning Malaysian traditional dance

- MUST TRY FOOD in Malaysia!
Malaysia is not only about nasi lemak. If you go to east coast Malaysia, like in Terengganu or Kelantan, you will more often see nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, or nasi minyak on the menu.
Nasi kerabu is the blue colored rice that looks so beautiful you almost don't want to eat it. Went to the best local spot at Fauzi Nasi Kerabu to try nasi kerabu for the first time. The restaurant also has nasi minyak on the menu.
As tourists trying nasi kerabu and nasi minyak for the first time, it was interesting because both rice dishes were so flavorful but unique on their own way.
We also went to the Terengganu tourism office where we tried Malaysian traditional costumes: baju melayu and baju kebaya. These clothing are made from expensive songket! Each could cost RM 10,000!
Steve also got the chance to learn a dance inspired by the Malaysian martial art: pencak silat. What a great day to learn more about Malaysian culture.
One of the lady we met at the tourism office also owned a restaurant, so we sent us her special haunted rice to try! The sambal was special and spicy! It was so good that it will haunt us forever.

Thanks for watching! Glad you are enjoying our videos, we are
certainly enjoying Malaysia!!
Evana is from Indonesia, so the moment she taste the foods she can exactly pin-point what is in the ingredients, I'm amazed by how accurate her guesses are eg. the fish-coconut thing stuffed in green chilli(solok lada). Coz these foods and flavours are very familiar to her coz foods from this region pretty much uses similar ingredients.
Totally agree - eating with your hands is the best!
It changes the taste and really adds to the enjoyment. Love it!
Yes!!!!
And it helps our body digest better. Plus you don’t eat something hot by accident 😂

malaysians of all states love nasi kerabu and nasi dagang.... yummy
I admire evana talent in distinguishing the different ingredients in Malaysian food. She got it damn right on all the items. Awesome experience guys
01:50 what I learned from my comment section: it's really important to mix up the food here 😅so you're doing it all right there haha 👍😄
The comments gets really rough huh? Hahahaha
The comment comes from that salty Ken-Dol right? 😂. Nevermind Ken at least u've tried hehe
So do the cendol! Mix mix then u get a real taste. Sedappp
Ken, hopefully you will try the famous cendol in Penang, cendol if just basic with cendol, real coconut milk, gula Melaka syrup, red beans and crushed ice..yummy..very famous and popular road side stall in Georgetown, small bowl and not expensive..just few feet away from the cendol, there is the famous Penang fried kueh teow with prawns not expensive, less than RM 6, or you can just ask for fried kueh teow without prawns if you really dislike seafood
nasi kerabu is also one of my favourite dish . enjoy your stay in our country . 🌹
I'm amazed by Ivana tastebud. Her ingredients detection is really good. I see both of you becoming more Malaysian day by day.. eating with hand, licking finger after eating..etc
‘Kerabu’ means mixed veges. That’s ‘sausage’ is Solok Lada which is fish + grated coconut stuffed in chilli
Steve cant tell it is fish 😂. If he stays longer in Terengganu, fish will taste like chicken to him.
Yea... Steve, the ‘sausage’ is actually made of fish + grated coconut + stuffed into chilli😉👌🏼👍🏼
Theres already a word for that .. it called Salad
Kerabu does not means mixed vege.. It can be in any kind of food, mix together.
Nasi ganja or nasi marijuana
I LOVE TO WATCH YOU BOTH VLOGGING... IT'S NOT BORING.. MORE NATURAL NOT TOO MUCH EDITING VIDEO... LOVE YOU GUYS.. REGARDS FROM LANGKAWI 😍👍
Heaven Duo Hunter thank you❤️
minutes 3:20, you called it sausage,, that Solok Lada.
if i translate Solok Lada in English it could sound Stuffed Pepper. Lada means Pepper/Chili, Solok means Stuffed.
the stuffed ingredient made from grated coconut mixed fish, after that it stuf into pepper and cook by steam
Nasi kerabu also popular at 3 the most southern Thailand provinces; Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, which are once were together with Kelantan as one Sultanate before be divided to Siam (Thailand) and Britain.
Nowaday, 3 provinces still share a lot of culture and language with Kelantan.
Interesting stuff! Thanks for sharing!
We're so happy to have you both here! The best youtuber ever!
A 77 thank you!
You guys had mastered eating rice using hand.
They way you scoop the rice and push with your thumb is the exact way malaysian eat.
there is nasi kerabu & nasi dagang in terengganu and we have mee racun (poisoned noodle) in batu pahat, johor
do you know budu is fermented anchovies sauce... budu is like durian, either you love it or hate it

Really enjoy looking all yr videos.... Confident both of you will be so famous...keep it up!
Mambo Sixty two thank you🙂
Next time you order your drink, tell them "kurang manis"... means less sweet. And you shouldn't really compare which is better, nasi lemak or nasi dagang or nasi kerabu... as they are different, it's like comparing apple with oranges. All are good but different.
If you have time, please visit Kelantan. It's near Kuala Terengganu and the food is really good. Not to mention it's very cheap there.
got to go to the islands next. Perhentian Island and Redang Island are a must and also the waterfall. forgot the name
Very cool with that traditional outfit
Yup, ur correct, the rice is blue coloured from a flower called bunga telang or butterfly pea.
Nasi dagang and Kerabu both my fav..it is special in its own way..Nasi Kerabu can be eaten as breakfast everyday, Nasi dagang only eat occasionally..especially during Hari Raya celebration/Eid fitri...
If you continue discovering Malaysia like this, I bet you guy will be thinking of migrating here or join Malaysia as Second Home program after you done with your travel or mebbe set it up here as home base.
I'm a rich lady and I agree.
Go try Erwina nasi padang there..super delicious and full with people

Steve you know what. You are so professional eating with your hand. Only with right hand. And the way you pinch your chicken and rice.....👍👍👍
Woo! It was an uphill battle. For awhile I would end up with food all over my shirt, and always tempted to use my left hand. It's getting more natural 😎😎😜
Congrats, you hit the trifecta ot Terengganu' s nasi. Nasi Dagang, Nasi Minyak n Nasi Kerabu.
Sepatutnya nasi lemak ikan aya bukan nasi kerabu..
That is what i call EAST COAST DISHES!!! Super Sweet Drink? Narghhh,That is Normal level Of sugar For Terengganu Peoples. Nice Video!!!
You guys missed the soup left in the wrapper....its used to temper the spiceness...

That's amazing food in Terengganu! Nice video
I thought some1 dont like fish. To tell the truth they put budu (a very thick fish sauce) together with sambal thr. Budu also 1 of trademark food from east coast and it's a must to put on nasi kerabu. Glad u both love it
Steve can really dance traditional malaysian dance, very fluid moves
The food does look delicious. You feel very comfortable eating with your hands.
That was high level dishes there bro! So much upgraded...very much proud of you!
You look awesome with that traditional outfit..and the foods omg soooooooo delicious..nice experience for both of you guys..enjoy exploring then.
wahhhh im very excited when see your videos coming... Kerabu is Salad ..Nasi Kerabu means Salad Rice..
getting better eating with hand.. you can permanently move to Malaysia now 👍🏻
You dance like a pro bro ..👍👍👍💪💪💪💗💗💗
Thanks ✌️!!!
There's green rice too ! Green rice comes from the juice of at least ten types of green leaves. I have the blue flower plant in my garden. Easy to grow.
Crystal Ping Sim Lee green rice? pandan rice?
Love those extra foamy teh peng!
Nasi minyak is rice cooked with ghee.. So it gives the oily & yellow character.
Back in the days, nasi minyak only served on special events like weddings, etc.
Shell-shocked from the gravy-less nasi dagang experience 😂
Lol! Still rattled about it. We need redemption
LOL 😃
U can still find nasi dagang in kl :)
My favorite nasi kerabu..im love it...
Blue colour are natural colour from flower (Butterfly Pea Flower) High in antioxidant component.😄
Yes I totally agree and I love nasi kerabu blue coloured, but I oftwn have to avoid buying from most stalls as I not sure if it's just added colouring ..I ever enquired from stalls but they usually honest and said yes it's just colouring used..
Certain people ate nasi kerabu by mixing all the ingredients and some ate little by little.. that green one called salak lada, which is stuff chilies with fish paste and coconut..
Steve, for someone who doesn't like seafood, I'm amazed you couldn't detect the fish taste from the 'sausage'(solok lada) and the sambal poured on that nasi kerabu (budu). Maybe after trying lots of seafood based Malaysian food, you become adapt to it?
Stay longer in Terengganu and fish will taste just like chicken 😂
Yes! I think so. I am starting to enjoy fish quite a bit. There's still some stuff off the menu for me -- ex. really fishy stuff like anchovy! But for something like solok lada, I loved it and couldn't taste a fishy taste at all. Awesome! I am evolving!!!
@@Avicenna_76 hahahahaha
@@JetLagWarriors next try otak otak and sata
@@JetLagWarriors steve, there's also the 'sambal kelapa' made of boiled fish, coconut, onions in the nasi kerabu.. Together with the blue colored rice made from bunga telang or blue pea flower, the kerabu or mixed fresh vegetables, sambal tumis & budu they United together as nasi kerabu.. Yummy 😋. It's my favorite
hye... guys... i luv to see both of u eat... hepy.. enjoyable.. warm... i like to hear lvana pronounce the word cabbage as carbage...it sound so cute... luv u guys.. 🔊❤️🌹🤭
Your Hand-Eating game is Next Level - somebody give this guy an honorary Malay certificate...hahaha
Glad you love our food 🤗
I am so jealous of u guys! I was stuck in Malaysia during the lockdown from March
Now I am back in UK and missing all the lovely tasty food especially Durian
Good to see you loving nasi minyak Steve. Pro tip for nasi minyak: choose “gulai ayam” over grill chicken next time, add on “acar” and sambal and you are good to go. For nasi kerabu, the sausage you guys ate is called “Solok Lada” or stuffed pepper, made with shredded coconut and mackerel and spices and stuffed in long pepper. You should get “Jeruk Bawang” or pickled garlic, bbq meat and fish cracker to go with you nasi kerabu. Anyway enjoy your Terengganu trip! Don’t forget to taste Sotong Celup Tepung Pok Nor!
Bingo.. again.. I'm salivating so much I can't think of anymore adjectives..
Oh wow so delicious right? BTW Malaysia lots of food paradise 😊 you can explore more delicious food all around Malaysia. Next destination l suggest to visit Tasik Kenyir (Kenyir Lake) located at Hulu Terengganu. I hope you will enjoy your vacation in Terengganu. 😊
dudeeeee the sausage there is fish and coconut stuffed in green chili. shows that you actually like fish if you dont know it is fish. hehe. btw its called solok and should be in every bite along with the rice. next nasi kerabu meal, try one with the grilled beef. the combo will taste super !
Try nasi dagang and Laksam. Another one keria , sweet potato doughnuts. Nasi minyak, acar timun dgn nenas with ayam tomato we cook for kenduri. They are so good. Translate directly oily rice but more like butter rice with flavour. Try ikan pekasam fried with onion and dry chilli 🥰 this in kedah: nasi Ulam, kerabu also good, basically a lot plant that good for health and yummy.. some of it mix with fry coconut. It’s next level foodie.
The blue calour for the rice came from a flower call bunga telang or in english clitoria ternatia
Thanks for making me feel hungry at this hour...
Fun fact, the sausages look alike wrapped in pepper was actually made from fish flesh, grated coconut and Spices.. Its called solok lada.. .its the same like satar, you eat before at pasar payang but satar was grilled and solok was steamed..both are delicious tho 😊
All the good food!
so beautiful dance, surprising u can dance perfectly
Nice dancing move Steve! Maybe you should try Silat class, you already have the right move.
Yeah that was pretty impressive
thank you😁✌️
Wowwww
U guys so skillful eating with hands d 👍.loved you guys so much seeing you having a whale of time tasting m'sian foodies. Stay safe looking forward next videos.
that’s why it is different with western or modern foods..traditional dishes is healthy and delicious
The green chili thing you eat is actually called solok lada which is made of fish and grated coconut.
wahhhh impressive. ur movement in traditional dance was really good
Next time, for a foreignor especially westerner, always ask for the kuah (gravy or sauce) to be put in separate small bowl or by the side of rice. When you've determined you like it then you mix with rice as you wish. Some people like me dislike rice dish or food so wet n mushy. It's like rice has been invaded by enemies.
Just a heads up, everytime u drink at any restaurant or stall u need to stir the drink so the sugar at the bottom will be even to the whole drink.
I love to go to wedding ceremony just to have this amazing nasi minyak for free!
Ok next please please try laksam.
Yes....please.
Watching your reaction video make me hungry.. 😂
Nasi biryani gam bro in johor.. try it batu pahat johor, mat shah near the bridge, nasi biryani power or nasi biryani bawah pokok sena, in JB City Bdr Baru Uda MS Biryani.. nasi dagang terengganu or kelantan version both are nice too
Try to find Jackfruit Tart in Lorong Makam Lama, Rojak Ayam Terengganu and Rojak Kateh
Next you should try ROJAK AYAM TERENGGANU
This looked HELLUVA' lot better than the vegetarian 'nasi kerabu' we had... Haha!
Oh wow! Yeah, Fauzi is a pretty famous place, been featured on a bunch of UA-cam channels. Was great!
Actually Fauzi nasi kerabu has been awarded top 50 world street food master awards in 2017.Glad that u guys enjoyed it! www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/malaysia-nasi-kerabu-fauzi-terengganu-award-winning-12110436
nice content bos.
the green one in nasi kerabu we called solok..the skin is big green chilli mix with shreded coconut and fish..it must have in nasi kerabu..if direct translate in english, we called 'rice to wednesday' or in malay nasi kerabu..
Interesting stuff! ❤️
I'm waiting for your perhentian island tour ..pls dont miss it..
Jeffry Abdul stay tuned!
Yeay finally. All taste heavenly. And most important, with gravy now
Nasi Kerabu Fauzi has been listed in 50 best street food in the world in 2017
Welcome to pantai timur
It's natural blue colour from Asian pigeonwings flower...
That "haunted" rice is meant to be eaten in a way, the spicy level is hot yet still consumable , which makes you getting adrenaline rush and haunts the spices to satisfy your appetite 😁😁 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love nasi kerabu (rice to-wednesday) but always without budu & nasi minyak.
