FIRST TIME trying Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Minyak in Terengganu! + Learning Malaysian traditional dance

  • MUST TRY FOOD in Malaysia!
Malaysia is not only about nasi lemak. If you go to east coast Malaysia, like in Terengganu or Kelantan, you will more often see nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, or nasi minyak on the menu.
Nasi kerabu is the blue colored rice that looks so beautiful you almost don't want to eat it. Went to the best local spot at Fauzi Nasi Kerabu to try nasi kerabu for the first time. The restaurant also has nasi minyak on the menu.
As tourists trying nasi kerabu and nasi minyak for the first time, it was interesting because both rice dishes were so flavorful but unique on their own way.
We also went to the Terengganu tourism office where we tried Malaysian traditional costumes: baju melayu and baju kebaya. These clothing are made from expensive songket! Each could cost RM 10,000!
Steve also got the chance to learn a dance inspired by the Malaysian martial art: pencak silat. What a great day to learn more about Malaysian culture.
One of the lady we met at the tourism office also owned a restaurant, so we sent us her special haunted rice to try! The sambal was special and spicy! It was so good that it will haunt us forever.

Evana is from Indonesia, so the moment she taste the foods she can exactly pin-point what is in the ingredients, I'm amazed by how accurate her guesses are eg. the fish-coconut thing stuffed in green chilli(solok lada). Coz these foods and flavours are very familiar to her coz foods from this region pretty much uses similar ingredients.

if i translate Solok Lada in English it could sound Stuffed Pepper. Lada means Pepper/Chili, Solok means Stuffed.
the stuffed ingredient made from grated coconut mixed fish, after that it stuf into pepper and cook by steam

Good to see you loving nasi minyak Steve. Pro tip for nasi minyak: choose “gulai ayam” over grill chicken next time, add on “acar” and sambal and you are good to go. For nasi kerabu, the sausage you guys ate is called “Solok Lada” or stuffed pepper, made with shredded coconut and mackerel and spices and stuffed in long pepper. You should get “Jeruk Bawang” or pickled garlic, bbq meat and fish cracker to go with you nasi kerabu. Anyway enjoy your Terengganu trip! Don’t forget to taste Sotong Celup Tepung Pok Nor!

Translate directly oily rice but more like butter rice with flavour. Try ikan pekasam fried with onion and dry chilli 🥰 this in kedah: nasi Ulam, kerabu also good, basically a lot plant that good for health and yummy.. some of it mix with fry coconut. It’s next level foodie.

Next time, for a foreignor especially westerner, always ask for the kuah (gravy or sauce) to be put in separate small bowl or by the side of rice. When you've determined you like it then you mix with rice as you wish. Some people like me dislike rice dish or food so wet n mushy. It's like rice has been invaded by enemies.

Just a heads up, everytime u drink at any restaurant or stall u need to stir the drink so the sugar at the bottom will be even to the whole drink.

That "haunted" rice is meant to be eaten in a way, the spicy level is hot yet still consumable , which makes you getting adrenaline rush and haunts the spices to satisfy your appetite 😁😁 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
