If you take "Express Timuran"(eastern express) train you can take from Wakaf Bharu to last station Woodland Singapore.local like sleeper class..Before the Big Flooding 2014, you can take Express Wau to KL Sentral..Now No More..Local just waiting for new express train KTM DMU class 61.. Tumpat-KL-Tumpat.(still under testing)
You can actually take train with bed facility from Georgetown to Bangkok. Some train n Malaysia use to have first class train, you get a whole cabin by yourself.
Sincerely hoping and praying that KTMB will maintain the scenic ride of The Jungle Train once the East Coast Railway Link is completed. And to Steve and Ivana just remember this.. "Goodbye Doesn't Mean Forever"
ECRL will not replace the east coast railway. KTMB operates the "jungle train" at a loss to make fares affordable for locals who rely on it to commute daily. Like those kids who attend schools in Dabong or makcik who sell their kebun produce in bigger towns. The good thing is that KTMB is in the process of upgrading the trains and tracks to accommodate the new DMU trains 🎉 Follow my friend's FB - Mohd Radzi Jamaludin. He travels on trains around the peninsular every year. Nice photos and stories. He also guides those who would like to make the same journey.
I'm so proud you guys did the Jungle Train journey. I did the whole stretch from JB Sentral to Tumpat in 2018 with some friends on the Shuttle/Mail train. It stops at every single station and hut which gives us the perfect opportunity to see how people who live along the railway use the train to commute daily. It also stops at Dabong. You should have gone to Stong National Park where the beautiful Jelawang waterfall is.
Steve has becoming more Malaysian now., a Mat Salleh who can eat durian and spicy Malaysian food. I think Ivana has to start cooking Malaysian food for Steve now.

You should go to Taman negara by boat.... it's more fun...but since you in Taman negara now ....but if you want to back to jerantut, you can go with boat to jeti Taman negara at Kuala tembeling..... it's the best way....
Stomach of Chandat Sotong...I think Im going to use that lol If there is Canopy Walk dont skip it.Im scared of height but I did it once.It was such incredible feeling to be walking among the tree tops.Ofc I felt like there were thousands of butterflies in my stomach but it was all worth it. Have fun in Taman Negara guys ans be safe.
Actually you don't have to change the train you can just ride the sleeper train from the start, you can ride it from wakaf bharu at 5 or 6 pm (dont remember the specific time) you dont have to change the train. If you ride the sleeper train from the start you can eat maggi goreng at the sleeper train canteen, it was the best maggi goreng.
Thanks for vlog, this is the old railway system in East coast peninsula Malaysia, the railway will be rebuilt in future, I would like to plan a train trip before they missing.
Haha Same tour as we did. But we did not take sleepe coachr for the short ride to Jerantut and took taxi to Kuala Tahan directly at night, since Buses were not operating..And AsiaCamp.... cool Say hello to Bard from us (if he does remember us anyway ;)
i miss those night train.. they are the only train with cafe.. i used to walk from end to end just to see those sleeper version.. they are also room type sleeper which look very comfortable
The sleeper train won't be there for long. They will be replaced with ETS (Electric Train Service) which means it will be faster so no more sleeper train. Used to board the sleeper train from KL to Hadyai via Padang Besar..until they're replaced with ETS.
The old train for east cost railway is quite slow but if you are not in hurry, its the best...but from northern to south railway malaysia will use the new train & its 2x faster than the old one
Steve, ivana....when you are Melaka, you miss one fine food to try. Our kampung call its Nasi Santan with durian. Rice + coconut milk + durian + white sugar. When you back to Malaysia, you should try it

The railway track is just down the area where my house is on the hill slope, and also overlooking the east towards the range of Forest Reserve . I could have stood at the roadside to wave at you ! The railway track runs parallel to the road near my house. And wow, the resort in Taman Negara looks so neat . The drone really shows such an amazing view!! Steve and Ivana are funny in the sleeper train....lol. Steve wants to brush his teeth, but O...never mind, go and sleep lah..! Btw, for sure the train is much much cleaner now eversince covid started. Everything...the beds, the rooms and toilets, public area must be sanitized n clean because of covid virus.

Previously we had those sleeper train from KL-Hatyai, KL-Tanjong Pagar, and Butterworth-Bangkok sleeper trains. Too bad all are gone. I miss my childhood moments travelled using these lines.
When you reach Jerantut by train, you must travel to Taman Negara Kuala Tahan via boat. You have to travel another 20km to a small town call Tembeling..

Previously we had those sleeper train from KL-Hatyai, KL-Tanjong Pagar, and Butterworth-Bangkok sleeper trains. Too bad all are gone. I miss my childhood moments travelled using these lines.

When you reach Jerantut by train, you must travel to Taman Negara Kuala Tahan via boat. You have to travel another 20km to a small town call Tembeling..
