MK4 R32 Turbo, what will it make on the dyno?

- In this video we put this track prepped Volkswagen R32 Turbo on the dyno to see what we can get out of it. This MK4 R32 is owned, driven on the street and heavily driven at the track by a good friend Kayla. She's a hairdresser during the week, but a track addict on the weekends. So yes, this one is really a hairdressers car. ;)
If anyone's interested in this entire turbo setup we can provide it, just reach out to us on our website.

This makes my soul happy. These never got the respect they deserved when new.
Cause they were heavy with no power. Just needed more jam.
Slow and heavy needs a supercharger or turbo to be the car it should have left the factory as.
The factory '04 GTI VR6 24v 2.8L 200 hp was lighter because it did not have the all-wheel drive system, and had slightly less power than the R32, but performed very nicely without mods. Definitely a GT car, not a track car, but performed very well for its intended purpose.
@@COMotorsports exactly
@@RedondoBeach2nly the American version though. Im Europe, it came with AWD by standard, and wasn't called GTI either, but "V6 4motion".
🔥 sick. Love having another channel to have on while im in the garage.
Glad you like. 👍
Wait!! It's not all wheel drive? So it is really just a GTI?
It's an R32. It's definitely AWD.
Wouldn't it make more sense to go on a all wheel drive Dyno to get the true to the ground hp if you have a R32?
@@jasonjacobsen3964 Not really. Lets put it this way, the engine doesn't care what it's on. If we do the math we can easily tell what hp power the engines making at the flywheel. Whether you do that math with AWD dyno numbers or 2WD dyno numbers... the engine is still making the same power.
@martin Yes simply unplugged the Haldex.
Thank God!!! Finally some good VW UA-cam content...
Thanks, much appreciated.
Heres a good channel with good content ua-cam.com/video/D0hbQ3Krfr4/v-deo.html
Agreed!!!
RIP my ears and headphones
Worth it for that noise though
We should have added a disclaimer for headphone users. 😂
I have mk4 r32 that I want to turbo. I wish someone had a thorough guide for a turbo conversion. Hell, I’d even pay for it. I’ve been getting bit of info here and there on vortex, but a complete walkthrough would be great for the turbo noobs.
We can supply all parts or we can do consulting. Email us if interested.
Thanks I will sometime next week
Epic car best of the best vw engine after the 20v .My golf mk4 1,8t is super but R32 is more lovely sound as v6 ..But i am sad that never import in Greece and now the used in eu is too expensive
Get a 2.5 5cyl. Best of both worlds.
She rolled in on Classics!👏👏👏
How can I get more power on my vw Mk5 BHY and would love some pops and bangs and those aggressive rev limiter like vw mk7
how many kilometers on the engine? 15 psi on stock internals is impressive for its year
Many years and many track events as well
Please y love the cars vw golf r32 is m'y reve is for sale ou one troc one terrain in france près the Disney land one troque the terrain chur r32 for mie
Dang wish I could bring my 1.8t gti to you guys to tune
The r 32 is the big boss the vr6 is the 3Litres 2 passer en 3Litres 5 et un big turbo one avion de chasse yes the troqué the r32 contre one terrain in france près the Disney land one troque yes ho no
Just stumbled upon you guys as in the process of building a R32T for my MK2 Golf... this was brilliant. Subscribed and liked... keep the content coming
Appreciate the feedback and thanks for the follow. 👍
CO Motorsports looking forward to move content, especially R32T related
@@tyronedean1812 Once the tracks open up again... we'll be at it.
did you disconnect the haldex for the dyno or something?
You got it
How difficult are those KDN shifters to install? I've done quite a number of difficult tasks on my MK1 TT, so I have some experience, just curious at the level of effort because I want one haha
Very easy with a lift. Moderate on your back.
Nothing agains vr6 engine tho I just like v5 better
Kayla crushing that track. 477 hp in a golf would be a ton of fun.
It’s a ton of fun for sure! And it’s soon going to be a whole lot more fun. New video in the new year on Kayla’s R32t :)
how much would a streetable turbo setup run? not alot of aftermarket support with these cars in terms of out of the box diy kits
Cost comes down to location, shops labor rate etc and what you use for parts. With turbo builds I try my hardest to use what I know what works. Sometimes we can get away with a cheaper item but for the big parts like WG, Turbo, Inj it doesn't pay to skimp.
If I'm correct I do think v5 make more power than vr6
hell yeah brothers (and sister) keep it up
Thanks :)
Question: does that exhaust wrap work better than the gold film in keeping the intake temp lower?
Never tested it back to back so can't say for sure.
My honest opinion if I had to choose between r32tubo and v5turbo I would go with v5turbo
We didn't get vr5 here so I'd have no idea.
Great video! Love that Canadian "out"
lol
Where is this car ??? Need more content of her neeeeeeed it not enough current Vr content on UA-cam in English that is 😕
In a zillion pieces, it's on deck over winter.
Amazing car! Love it.
It is for sure.
It makes me sad that my 2.7tt has a second turbo and like 5 more pounds of boost and I’m still at about a hundred less wheel horsepower. No replacement for displacement I suppose.
The replacement for displacement is turbo selection. Your's would easily do the same with the right turbo or turbos.
CO Motorsports you’re absolutely right, We have customers at our shop with bigger turbo 2.7tt’s and similar setups to this r32, and the vr6 just feels more responsive (to me at least). That being said, my f21’s do the job just fine, to go up turbo size would just be looking for a number. I have my eyes set on bit of a different setup honestly...those s6 v8tt’s are a whole new ballgame.
@@JakeVeinotte you're definitely right there. 🙂
Damn bro CCW's i was hoping they were #realrotas god ive loved seeing this car online hahaha and how good it gets used at the track!!! Loving the continued learning on videos and editing guys keep it up!
Thanks man, It gets used that's for sure. :)
@@COMotorsports also kayla frickin rips that thing! Haha
La ragazza dei sogni 🤟
THE R32 IS 4WD WHY THIS ONLY USE THE FRONT DINAMO??????
BECAUSE WE HAVE A 2WD DYNO!!!!!!!!!
Why dyno without haldex drive?
If you'd like to donate to the AWD dyno fund we're taking donations. Until then we use what we have. Increase in power is the same no matter what so it makes zero difference in the end.
The r32 is 4wd
What kind of gear Selector is that

The COOLEST car with the COOLEST owner!! 😁
Semi cool owner

Awesome 👌 wish u guys could tune my gli

I’m curious, if it’s an R32 how have you stopped the all wheel drive...???
Watch our video titled “How to dyno a Haldex AWD Volkswagen or Audi on a 2WD dyno.” That should answer all your questions.
Super projekt 👍
👍 😄
Is this power at the wheels?
It is.
Did you say it has rez/muffler or neither? Hard to hear with the car flying by in the background haha
Straight pipe, after downpipe it's all aluminum.
Worthwhile fitting a Powertrack 50/50 haldex insert.
Although that is an option, we would want more control over the haldex then that product would provide in this situation.
You'd probably squeeze some more HP out of it if you cleaned that air filter lol
Or more boost.
That R32 just need a meth system and you are 500+ ! Great video !
It's getting way more. lol
A car that cute shouldn’t be making savage noises like that!
That's where you're wrong. :)
What compression ratio does the head gasket spacer provide? And can you give me a link to that, if possible?
Been a long time since we did this one, but I think it was 9:1... but there's a possibility 8.5:1. We can't get them currently so I'm of no help to you unfortunately.
Hey just started watching your channel, love your videos! How does the turbo fit with the ATP manifold, does the turbo get close to the transfer case or any other components?
Thanks!
Thanks, fits completely fine. Downpipe is the tight fit...but fits.
Wookies Rule, Lol. And I thought my fiancee was cool when she went with me to the track. Trying to talk her into taking some lessons.
Get to it!
what size injectors where you using to begin with during this video?
550cc in this car.
wait aren't r32 awd ? why are the back tires blocked on the Dyno ?
Magic
@@COMotorsports for real thought just educate me
@@mikhailSRT4 there's an entire video on our channel about it actually. 😉
@@COMotorsports ok I'll look for it. just learning about these cars . coming from srt4 to these cars .
I have a Audi A3 3.2 Id love to send to you for a turbo build.
No problem. 👍
more r32 content
Unfortunately we didn't get the MK4 R32 here in Canada so there are not too many around these parts. However we will have more content of this R32 once track season rolls around.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Please leave the spec for injector size and UM map. Also intake used
@@road_2_pow_r 550cc in this one, with matching UM file with a few adjustments. Intake is the cast aftermarket one... it's pretty much the only cast one around for it. Not sure who makes it exactly... likely out of china.
@@COMotorsports not likely out of China. Cast manifold comes from cts usa and Xparts germany.
Maybe you could ask the owners?
The intake was purchased used but never installed from someone’s abandon project. Looks like the CTS one...but not 100% sure.
what fuel additive did you guys use? thanks
Depends on the application, and it's heavily monitored when doing so. Not something I recommend for most. What I can say is it's not off the shelf stuff, that's all junk.
what additive did yall use?
We've used a few different options over the years, however they all leave a lot of deposits so we've typically only used them on specific occasions like track event, dyno etc. I wouldn't recommend for regular use. Use race fuel or ethanol.
@@COMotorsports I just want to run a couple hits on the dyno then will drain it out. Based in Sask, I am also on crappy 91 and with an r32 turbo. Mind is heavily built however.
UMFTW!
I love the car!!
I thought r 32 was all wheel drive ?
It 100% is.
is that YUGO on laptop wallpaper?
That's my MK1 Rabbit
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Yes?
Very cool
Awesome. I’m in love now. Great job.
Glad you like it!
Does that run a stock radiator or an upgraded one?
Stock rad.
Wher you guys located ?
East Coast Canada (Nova Scotia).
did you upgraded the head and rod studs ?
ARP bolts, stock head and block. Just a spacer.
ARP Head studs in there?
Yes
Size of the wheels please?
CCWs are 18x8.5 in the front, and 18x10 in the rear
What mileage is the R32 on?
With the turbo kit per in general? It was supercharged for a while before she got it, however when they picked it up it was back to NA. The engine was healthy so we turbod it.
What shifter is that ??
Link is in the description. Use them on quite a few cars great shifters, with more options than any other shifter on the market.
Why isn’t it AWD?
But it is.
I already have a short shifter, does this work with it ?
Most definitely does.
CO Motorsports all right 😁
What a Beautiful sound!
I assure you it's even better in person.
What kind of wheels are those?
CCW classics for street use.
@@COMotorsports on the r32..they look incredible 👍
@@bradc01x that they do. :)
Is it worth to get a high mileage mk5 r32 and rebuild it w nice parts, long block rebuild and custom build a full turbo kit w E85
If you like mk5 r32s then sure
@@COMotorsports i don't like them, I luv them, but I don't know if my wallet can handle it lol
@@craizygolf1980 gotta pay to play as they say.
Plz don't laugh, but I want 700+ WHP twin turbo, mainly i need it to be 1/8 of a mile
@@craizygolf1980 twin is completely unessesary and just a larger expense.
How many miles are on the engine?
Boosted or just in general?
CO Motorsports honestly both, I have a R32 with 206k and want to turbo it but I don’t want to risk blowing but of course there are other factors not just miles.
@@davidmoreno2526 if the engine is healthy, good compression and doesn't smoke... Have at it.
@@davidmoreno2526 Bro I just rolled over to 206k this week in my r32....crazy
Did you actually need the surge tank or was that added more to keep from diving into the tank with bigger/more pumps?
Basically to eliminate any potential fueling issues at the track and to give us all kinds of options when it came to pumps. Not "needed" per say.
love this vid, what was the cost of this turbo conversion roughly?
All depends on the mods existing on the car, labor rate in your area, and quality of parts that go on it. A porting of this setup was built by us in house so not quite off the shelf.
@@COMotorsports Somewhere around 15k?
All depends on the mods on the car, which engine, power goals and a bunch of other stuff.
I’m sure you probably know, but if/when you go 500+ you’ll want to be considering engine internals and transmission upgrade. Most people on the forums consider 500 to be the cut off point for stock motor and transmission
Transmission has been wrecked a few times already. And we're aware of the limitations with stock internals/headspacer, but thanks for looking out.
What did you guys do about the transmission?
I wouldn’t let forums make your decisions. I agree the transmission is the weak link in these cars, But I’ve seen stock block R32’s putting down over 600 whp. Correct tuning makes a big difference
@@tylerr3216 tunings not saving the trans the way they break. Aside from shift cut which helps, but we've never broke a trans shifting it's just always been under load.
CO Motorsports I wasn’t saying tuning will save the transmission, I agreed those are the weak link with these cars. I was just referring his comment about 500hp being the cut off for a stock bottom end.
