The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S Is The 21st Century Grand Cherokee Trackhawk!

  • This is it! This is the Wagoneer EV, AKA: the Wagoneer S, and it's not quite what many of us had expected. Why? Because it's more of a Grand Cherokee EV in terms of its size, being ever so slightly smaller than the 2-row GC in almost every dimension. That also means it's way, smaller than a Wagoneer sans-S, and that's actually OK by me. On the other hand, if you were hoping for a Escalade IQ competitor, well, you're still waiting.
    So what do you get for just under $72,000? Surprisingly quite a bit, considering that the Wagoneer S should qualify for the $7500 tax credit and $72K seems as high as the Wagoneer S will go. At least for now. That means that 72 karge actually buys you more stuff and better performance than you'll find in an Acura ZDX Type S, Lyriq Sport, or Polestar 3... For less. Clearly however there will be options like a Model Y or Blazer that will cost you less than this, but the Model Y is a bit smaller in some dimensions and it will lack some of the more "traditional" luxury touches offered in the Jeep.
    Now to the dimensions: Vs the Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer S is 1 inch shorter on a 3.7 inch shorter wheelbase, 3 inches narrower, with a roof line 6 inches closer to the ground. The lower roofline is mainly due to a passenger compartment that's less upright, but having 2 inches less ground clearance also factors into things. Legroom is similar to Grand Cherokee while headroom is around 2" lower both front and rear. Cargo room? 30.6 cubic feet plus 3 in the frunk put it about 4 cubes behind the Grand Cherokee, but almost exactly the same as a Model Y.
    Power comes from a 100.5 kWh battery pack (400V nominal) under the body that will feed to standard dual 300 HP / 309 lb-ft motors. The total of 600 ponies and 617 lb-ft will get this 5,600 lb EV from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, they say that's 1/10th faster than the last Hellcat powered Grand Cherokee. Yeehaw.
    We don't have all the charging details yet, but it looks like it'll peak around 200kW on a DC fast charger and should average ~160 kW from 10-80% which is a solid, but not class leading showing. Charge times should be pretty similar to a Tesla Model X which has a similarly sized battery.
    Curb weight is lower than I had expected, although still substantial. At 5,667 lbs, the Wagoneer S is about 300 lbs heavier than the Trackhawk from years past, but the low center of gravity will likely be an asset and expect a perfect 50/50 weight balance. On the other hand, don't expect the eco-focused 235 width tires to do as much on a track as the wide summer tires on that Hellkitty.
    What do you think? Keep in mind that at $71,995 plus destination, the Wagoneer S is actually less than a base Polestar 3 or a comparably equipped ZDX, or Cadillac Lyriq and it's quicker to 60 than all three. It's also less than a 2-row Model X. On the other hand it's nearly 20K more than a Model Y....

    I like that the extra rear cargo space isn't just some small deep tub, it's reasonably deep and wide. It at least gives the sense that you could fit more in the back in the extra cargo area than this car's competitors.

      Honestly the only thing that shocked me about this car. It 100% won't be pulling high skidpad numbers or breaking distances. Seems like a potential safety issue but I guess the average person wont be driving these fast. Hilarious that a new Chevy Trailblazer comes with 245s lol and that thing weighs over 2250lbs less.

    I think you're somewhat misinturpreting the branding - in my mind, this is not just randomly a Wagoneer - this is an important building of the Wagoneer subbrand. The name "S" is additionally very telling. My guess is this was benchmarked against a Velar - and in Jeep's ideal mind, really has nothing to do with being a Grand Cherokee (which could come later as a more appropriate model). This thing is meant to be a sporty, premium, hot roddy Range Rover from America - at least that is Jeep's hope - and I think in general they're quite successful with it. Cool car - congrats to Jeep on this, thumbs up

      @@garrettw99 I understand Stellantis thinks Jeep has suddenly turned into a luxury brand overnight and where they _intend_ for a Grand Wagoneer to compete, but what I mean by Jeep can’t compete with Cadillac is Stellantis will never be able to charge $150,000-$400,000 for a Jeep. The *brand* does not compete with Cadillac. Stellantis is nuts if they thought making the Grand Wagoneer really nice on the inside makes Jeep a top tier luxury brand. It does not.

The Macan is nice but just stupid expensive. If this is even faster, cheaper, has reasonable luxury and is smaller, that's actually more desirable to me. One review did a video on a pre-production crown and said a lot of it looked better than a lot of production vehicles.

    No info on the charging port?! Is the charging port NACS native or is it CCS and does it require an adapter for NACS? Big omission here because lack of charging infrastructure (except Tesla's Supercharging network) is the primary obstacle to EV adoption. OK, price is an obstacle, too.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Місяць тому

      Like every new non-Tesla for 2025, it’ll be CCS. We won’t see a native J3400 connector until calendar year 2025, most likely on new 2026 model year vehicles. The J3400 standard just got approved and nobody is really making parts for it yet. Although J3400 is compatible with Tesla’s connector, there are few very small differences so it;s not like they just start buying connectors from Tesla. (That would have made too much sense, but also put Tesla in a position the competition didn’t like). It’s worth noting that CCS is growing faster than Tesla’s connector (super weird) so by the end of 2024 there will likely be more CCS connectors than Tesla connectors and L2 charging J1772 connectors outnumber Tesla destination connectors by about 1000:1 in N. America. it’s a hot mess and will be for a while.

    A Jeep, no spare tire. What a joke. Another sales failure because it’s too expensive, it’s not going to sell.

    This should be their new Cherokee EV. It's too small to be called a Grand Cherokee let alone Wagoneer. If they could extend the wheel base about 4 inches and give the 2nd row some real leg room and then extend the hatch area another 6 inches so you could do family road trips in it I'd be tempted. Cargo capacity needs to be at least as big as the old Grand Cherokee and as a Grand Cherokee owner I'm not impressed.

    The Chevy Equinox that GM says they will sell for 25 grand with the incentive. That vehicle sales wise is going to spank this overpriced turd. And I’m a Jeep fan.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  2 місяці тому +1

      I don't think many people will be comparing this or an Equinox for their next vehicle, they fall in different categories. The closest GM product comparison would be the Cadillac Lyriq. -Travis

      It's still in preproduction. Besides towing isn't the primary Jeep thing. It's either off-roading or stylish winter driving. These two models check both boxes.

    Is it going to launch with a $20k+ manufacturer incentive? Who would pick this over other options? Jeep buyer will buy a hybrid or gas jeep, ev buyers will buy far more polished ev offerings. How will this beat a track hawk 0-60 on thos skinny tires? This car doesnt add up... Stelantis is going to go bankrupt again.

    Sure it’s a nice vehicle. But over $70k in price? Is ridiculous. Let’s talk about the perks given UA-cam auto reviewers get, by the manufacturers. Free trips, parties, hotel stays, as long as you play the hype game. I own a 2023 VW ID4, a better deal at $45 k. Be real the price of the vehicles are way to high for the average consumer. Beg to differ?

    Stellantis continues to make terrible awful choices re: Jeep and Thor efforts to turn it into some kind of American Range Rover. They should be focused on anew Jeep Cherokee so they can compete in the compact SUV segment, period.
