Nobody takes new Grand Cherokees or Wagoneers off road. I think Tommy over stressed the lack of off roadness of this car. Like most Jeeps, it’ll spend its days going to Whole Foods.

Here's the thing, its not a question of what owner do. Rather, is the vehicle capable if they did. ALL Jeep ICE vehicles are capable to some degree. Including the ICE Wagoneer. However, this EV is not in any way an off-road capable vehicle at any level. Its just a Jeep branded EV.

Duh... China is flooding all the markets. They can't compete. They're all luxury brands now. Selling 100k units at a paltry cpl % profit is way worse for them than selling 25k units at a 200% higher price.

@@niceguyrides it's amazing to me that they still haven't understood that the pricing is ridiculous. They push all this "way less moving parts" and how they are less complex than a traditional vehicle but none of that matters if it doesn't translate to the price. EVs should be cheaper than their gas counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of them but strictly from a technological and performance standpoint. Also, the convenience of charging at home on your own PV microgrid. But the dealerships need to go and the manufacturers need to sell directly to the consumer as well as drop the price to nearly half of what they are charging now. It's out of control.

@@MurseTech64 this is my thing. All Jeeps use to be trail rated. That was their identity and the 1st EV they come out with will be crap off-road. They are still engineering EVs like ICE cars… it is 100% lazy and boring. And they have old charging tech in them….. you can sell a 75000$ SUV, but it needs to be good. This is not good.
If they came out with a jacked up hot hatch EV, they would sell thousand of them.
This design is very much like the Ford Mach-E. They had the Mustang name and instead of making an amazing revolutionary Mustang, they turned it into an SUV. lol Who is making these decisions. EV’s sell… just look at Tesla, but they have to be good.

@@niceguyrides I agree with you. They really need to completely rethink the way they are designing transport. We no longer need to have the engine up front or if they are designing transport.
And on your point about the off-road capabilities, I completely agree. The battery electric motor setup is way more capable than having to rev an engine with transfer cases and differential locks, and I totally dropped the ball.

It seems nobody except Rivian and GMC (and just now Mercedes) are willing to make an actual SUV/crossover body style. I suspect the majority of the players are all trying to game the efficiency and range numbers by maximizing aerodynamics instead of making more energy efficient running gear and larger batteries.

You're kidding, right? The Mach E is the second best semi in EV in it's class, just behind the Model Y. Owners are equally enthusiastic about it, and it's a very successful EV. I find the outrage over the Mustang name badge ironic since the original Mustang had a gutless six cylinder engine and handled like a dump truck. It was intended to be "cute" so young women would buy it. The Mach E honors the Mustang name going into the future. That can only be a good thing.

I have a 22 Grand Cherokee L, and I have to say I totally disagree with you on most of this. The JEEP brand is not ONLY the Willy's Wrangler. They're allowed to pivot and chase different markets. I think it's kinda cool that someone can go to a CDJR dealer and have such a wide variety of options. All the way from a minivan to sports cars to crossover SUVs to EVs to trucks to hard-core offroaders to crazy luxurious SUVs. My Grand Cherokee is just a limited. I have the 20" black wheels, the tech stuff, so it has the passenger screen and even the base offroad modes. I'm not gonna take it crawling through the Rubicon trail, but I have taken it out on the beach in NC, and it did GREAT. It also handles the snow in my area pretty great. For the average person. Softcore offroad capable suvs are a great option. This vehicle would be perfect. If it were priced better... That's one thing I do agree with. It's basically just an EV baby Grand cherokee. The prices should reflect that better. It's not some ultra luxurious suv.

The reason Tommy brought that up is because Jeep built their reputation as a common man brand that offer a
product for a niche market. Now that has changed when Jeep decided to go upscale and charge luxury prices. It will impact its reputation when it tries to cater to a market that is already saturated. I’m sorry but when most people budget 60k,70k, 90k on a luxury SUV, Jeep is not a thoughtful consideration as its does not possess the prestige of the already established brands like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Cadillac for example.

    • @G-Rated
      @G-Rated 4 місяці тому

You’re clearly one of the few that’s drinking the Stellantis coolaid, but I’ll try to explain it to you anyway. Just because you’re “allowed to chase” other markets doesn’t mean you’re supposed to. Every market isn’t for every brand to chase which was the entire purpose of a multi-brand corporation or parent company with subsidiaries separately functioning underneath to chase different markets. Thats why it’s Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. Their brands just lost their meaning.
Their dealerships offer such a wide variety of products but none of them are dominating in their respective classes. Think about that. It’s because the brands have lost their meaning and Stellantis is lazily surviving off incredibly high profit margins so that they don’t have to be the top pick or sell as many cars to be in as good a position as the next automaker.
Unfortunately, trying to turn Jeep into a luxury brand will never work. No matter how many badges they hide or logos they pretty up, it’ll still read Jeep and _that_ brand already has a meaning to U.S. consumers. Instead of investing the money into Chrysler and taking it upmarket, they try to profit off the Jeep name in this way. The same Jeep Grand Wagoneer interior in every “luxury” product isn’t game changing nor “crazy luxury” to anyone spending $100,000. They’re everyday run of the mill Jeeps stuffed with real leather massaging seats, but Jeep will *never* be a Maybach competitor.

Love the steering wheel and the dashboard setup. But what confuses me is the size. The name Wagoneer suggests it should be a full size SUV but this feels more like the Grand Cherokee size wise. Why wouldn’t they market it as an all electric GC? That said the design cues of the TrailHawk concept are cool and would sell. I just don’t get why Jeep is targeting luxury buyers. Their niche is off-road.

So, more a Chevy Blazer EV SS or previous-gen GC Trackhawk fighter, with NO air suspension and a smaller wheelbase vs the Blazer EV (yes, I know the Blazer EV or previous-gen GC Trackhawk didn't offer air suspension), but the previous and current-gen did and do, yes, it has a front trunk, they should’ve really just called it Grand Cherokee S (S standing for sports coupe) because it looks like a Grand Cherokee Coupe, will it sales, maybe to those that want GC Trackhawk 0 to 60 performance which the new-gen GC has yet to offer, wondering why it doesn’t have the same wheelbase as the 2-row GC, yes, I know it’s on a dedicated EV platform supposedly, but that rear seating legroom looks a little tight

    • @G-Rated

Absolutely agreed. There’s no reason to buy this over the original Chevy Blazer SS it’s trying to be. Funny how Jeep thinks they have to pretend to be a luxury brand in order to attract buyers. That’s going to be a mess for them.

$70k+ and about the size of a Model Y? Why would I consider this vehicle? What am I getting here I'm not getting in a Y? It's certainly not an offroad vehicle. I would rather Jeep shorten it 5 inches, call it a Cherokee, and make it a competitor to the Y. The price is way out of line. The commentary about it not being on par with the Tesla performance vehicles is a bit of a miss. Of course not a Model X "Performance" (which is just the Plaid at this point, completely different league); but this vehicle was specifically benchmarked and built to go head-to-head with the Model Y Performance. It even beats it to 60. So how exactly is it not comparable to that vehicle?
