I live up in whakapapa village, the tracks out there are great there's a few ways to get from mill campsite to the start of the 42nd some of them are a proper good drive!!!
@@OverlandNZTV cheers bro just watching the video, thinking about giving it a go tomorrow or later in the week as have some friends over from the UK. How long was the drive?
Hi there, i have a stock triton without diff lock on 245/75/17s (31s) wildpeak all terrains. Will I make it through? Pretty confident I could get through that hill the hillux got stuck on with more right foot...
Hey Alwyn - it's hard to say - it all depends on the day and how the vehicle responds to the hill, it's much steeper and more rutted out than it looks on camera, and how much you're willing to push your truck. Utes are at a disadvantage due to their departure angle which is what caught the Hilux out - ended up resting on the towbar. I gave it a few decent goes off camera but called it when I smashed the plastic under the front bumper. The Hilux was carrying a lot of weight and was the 5th vehicle in the convoy up the hill which probably played against it too. Someone reached out after heading through there a few weekends ago and mentioned they weren't surprised the Hilux struggled. Hope that helps - I can't give a 'yes/no' answer as it depends on many things. Cheers, Daniel
It's a pretty amazing place to explore! It's one way - from SH47 across to SH4. People do cross it both ways but DOC prefer everyone is going the same direction for obvious reasons
Heya! Ummm probably not - depends on the weather and how much traffic has gone through recently - but there’s one section that a RAV would probably struggle with. Heaps of other stuff in the area the RAV would be able to do though! Check out our Central Plateau episode
Awesome video. We need more 4x4 videos like this in NZ. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Cheers! Was such an awesome trip
Nice and easy 4x4 learners track would be fun for a novice to give it a go.
No ego's, great music, liked the communications between driver and spotter, better than 4WD Action, Subscribed!
Cheers mate! Appreciate the kind words and sub!
@2low 4fiveoh Yeah it's just a track for the 'Shiny' trucks. Some would think that's hard out hahaha
Awesome job team. Cant wait to take on this track mid March right at the end of the season haha.

Hi do you guys have the location? I search on Google map 42 traverse but couldn't find the entrance and the exit thanks
The DOC website has the location - or you can use our app, Navigator 👍
navigator.overland.nz/track/7
Can you do this with only one truck? I have a 2016 ranger with winch 🤷♂️
Should be all good - haven’t heard too much about it since it opened again, but it does change through there each season 👍

Nice! It took us 7 hours filming 😅 From what I've heard though, takes 3-4 hours with a few stops
Will you guys be back this year when it opens up?
We don't currently have any plans - but you never know!

Hi, Awesome track! is this a one way track or can go through SH 47 to SH 4?
