- The Xbox Series X has an excellent setup process, walking you through the key settings but it doesn’t cover everything. To game with the best video settings on your Xbox Series X you'll need to go into the deep menu settings.

To get the most out of your Xbox Series X, a modern TV with features including HDMI 2.1, HDR, UHD color, VRR, and a 120Hz panel. But even on more modern TVs, you might have to pay attention to your HDMI ports, if there is one labeled 4K 120Hz, you’ll want to use that one. And it may be that you have to turn variable refresh rate on or otherwise enable it. Some newer TVs are supposed to make the right adjustments automatically, but that doesn’t always work, so the takeaway here is to always double-check.
The Video Modes section is going to be a very important home during this process with a plethora of adjustable options, but what does this stuff mean? Allow 50Hz means it will play 50Hz content from video apps. We don’t get a lot of that in the U.S., but it doesn’t hurt to leave it on. Allow 24 Hz is for playing movies at their native frame-rate, and that’s especially important for DVD, Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray playback. Auto Low Latency Mode, leave this on because if your TV supports it, it should go straight into game mode for the least amount of lag -- doesn’t always work on some TVs, though. Allow variable refresh rate: I say leave this on, it’s going to be a bigger and bigger help as more games support it. The only reason I’d turn it off is if you are running into some problems and want to shut it off to troubleshoot.
Allow 4K and Allow HDR10, pretty self explanatory. Now, Auto HDR, what does that do? Well, for the most part, it allows the Xbox to present non-HDR games as if they were in HDR and I am hearing that it works really well. If you are old-school, though, and want to play the game exactly as it was developed to look in SDR, by all means, feel free to turn this off. But I wouldn't.
Allow Dolby Vision, this is for games and movies and if you have a Dolby Vision TV absolutely leave this on if you can. Again, though, if you run into problems and you ever think Dolby Vision being on could be a culprit, you can always turn this off in a sequence to check.
Now let’s jump into video fidelity and overscan. Under display, leave this on auto-detect. It knows what kind of connection you have. Color Depth: Now here’s a spot where you think more is better right? Not necessarily. This has a bit to do with that chroma subsampling stuff I talked about before. First off, no need to ever select 12-bit because in most cases that would push the Xbox past its 40 gigabits per second boundary, so pointless to click this. You CAN click 10-bit if you want, but its not like the Xbox is able to add and bits per pixel that aren’t already there, so if it isn’t getting an HDR signal, then it isn’t really going into 10-bit territory. If you leave it at 8-bit, it WILL automatically jump to 10-bit when you go into HDR mode and that’s what matters. So, pick eight or ten. Whatever you like, because it isn’t going to matter much.

Question, what setting are you playing in game mode or cinema/standard or vivid. I'm using vivid and cinema back and forth.

For those in the alpha skip ahead. The update messed up certain features when enabling 120hz. It’ll be fixed soon which is why u may see frame drips in the UI

LG CX Xbox series x and ps5. Only cost nearly 3K with games extra controllers etc. But 3k well spent considering lockdown and I still had to work through all of it. I deserved a present for me.

Agreed got a 65" C1 the other day to finally get the best out of my Series X and PS5 ... Imagine showing this to the kid that began on a ZX Spectrum 🤯
I prefer Mini-LED LCD TVs as in my Experience OLEDs don't get bright enough, so lighter things like snow and sunlight tend to be a little washed out, and they are a little too contrasty, meaning scenes during nighttime or in dark rooms are a little TOO dark.

Got mine about a month and a half ago.
I have mine hooked through an older Pioneer AVR 5.1 surround system displayed on an 8 year old Samsung 50" Plasma and it looks surprisingly GOOD.
I plan to upgrade to a 55" or 65" TCL 4k miniLED when/if they come out this year and an 9 channel 8k Atmos AVR and either Pinoeer or Klispch Atmos enabled 5.2.4 surround

Great video. I've been looking for an explanation like this. Also, a good reason for allowing the xbox to control tv volume is if you use a media remote, which I use while watching netflix, disney plus, etc.

Got series x 6 weeks ago, and my new Nanocell 3 days ago. Tv gaming has never felt this good
Which nanocell did you get? I have the nano90 2020 version, and I think it’s good..dark and not as vibrant as an oled, but I like it..Nanocell TVs get quite a bit of hate.
I got the nano86, the only 2 things I can complain about are local dimming and the picture quality in a dark environment. Everything else I love. My first true smart TV, and I love it

@@Daveosbeatz I finally did get Dolby vision working, however, it only will work if I turn off freesync on the Nanocell and the xbox series x..I wonder why..Also, if I have it on HDR10 without Freesync enabled on the nanocell, and 120hz enabled on the series x, I get really bad rapid screen flicker..If I am going to use freesync when when hdr mode, I have to keep it at 60hz on the xsx..Are these issues normal?

If you are running it through a receiver some receivers need to manually be told hdmi is 120hz. Onkyo for example needs to be set to 8k to allow 4k 120hz to pass through. Learned this the hard way.

Pro tip: RB+LB+RT+LT will bring up secret menu displaying nits value. OLED users 800 nits HGiG, 1200 nits DV, 3000 DTM.

Three years ago...I got one! I remember in December 2021, I wanted to play Halo Infinite on a next gen system, but my Xbox One S was locked on 30fps...I couldn't get a Series X for anything, so I settled for a Series S. The game looked OK on my 4K display, but clearly it wasn't on par with the Series X. Finally got my Series X in January 2022 and it was truly an upgrade! The S is fine on an 1080 display but for those UHD fanatics out there, it's a no-brainer, even now!

I managed to purchase three Series X. Got mine on launch day and one for my son that sadly arrived just after Christmas. Ended up with a third, trying to get the boy one before Christmas. We sold it to a friend of his.

Had my series x since launch here in the UK. I was lucky enough to secure from John Lewis first batch release. I'm not using my old c9. I'm using a 1440 monitor for 120hz. Looking forward to 2.1 hdmi monitors for the full package.
I want to see a video of your game settings vs movie settings. I’d like to set the Xbox input settings to whatever would be best for gaming then have my settings at what’s best for my TV while streaming shows and movies.

I was able to get the series x. My tv is the Sony 950g. I am having a blast playing at 4k 60. Thanks for tips.
If you own a LG CX you can turn the tv into a PC monitor by switching the input from game to PC. That way 4:4:4 chroma is enabled which in turn allows you to calibrate the Xbox with HGIG enabled for very nice accurate colors.
Series X on launch day and picked up an LG Nanocell 86, very pleased with the combo.
Is that good? 55inch or 65inches? Any problem you having so far? thx/ if its a 65 inch tv do you think there is much difference between 55?

Vincent does a great in explaining everything, even TV's to go with Xbox and PS. Personally I'm looking at Sony X900H. Full fat 48Gbps vs 40 on LG.

I got mine and love it. Also just picked up an lg cx on Presidents’ Day sale for a good price and its crazy good even worth call of dutys glitches.
Got PS5 and XSX and they are connected directly to a professional calibrated LG65CXOLED + a 7.1 Surround System. I am pretty happy! :-)

got the series x and the ps5 and just ordered the vizio p65 quantum was going to get the oled version but ive had bad luck with burn in previously so i opted out of going oled this go around.

I've been having a lot of trouble getting HDR to work on my Xbox Series X and LG Ultrawide Monitor. I have the 29UW600 which definitely supports HDR10 if my PS4 Pro has anything to say about that, however, my XSX just simply refuses to acknowledge that fact. I've tried pretty much everything, including what Caleb said during the first half of the troubleshooting segment.

I was able to pre order one in November. Love it except for Wi-Fi speeds are terrible. Yes, I have it wired but I want to move it around my house and can't without running more wires. Have a LG CX ordered so I'm excited to see what this console can really do!
The wifi speeds are incredible I am getting 160 mbs compared to 30 on XB1 and lower latency

I've used PC RGb on Xbox with my Samsung QN90B and Q70R before that. As long as the "HDMI Black Level" is set to Normal or Auto, it should work fine.

I know this video is older but if you have allow 50hz checked on US displays this is what makes UA-cam app lose audio sync and drop frames unchecking that one setting fixes this.

That makes more sense now ive had an lg cx since middle of last year and has worked flawlessly best purchase i ever made before the series x come out i managed to snag one up here in the uk when it was released from argos and had no shipping problems what so ever the only issue i have if you like when watching youtube on the series x playing from the ssd by the way which i watch a lot of i tend to get the weird stuttering effect when theres a panning shot for example its very noticeable on the eye so i just used the normal app one and ive also noticed when playing back normal blu ray dvds not 4k ones the tv tends to go black for couple of seconds then come back on now i dont know if thats because am not playing the proper 4k ones i dont know but can be annoying apart from that though very happy with my setup and gaming on it such as f1 battlefield fifa the series x and lg cx all work exceptionally good when you do these settings

I have Philips TV and the HDR on or off will trigger automatically depends on the device connected to it, I have XBOX Series S and it won't detect or read that my TV have an HDR feature but when I turned on YCC 4:2:2 in my XBOX settings the HDR worked just fine.
