I can't help but wonder if the "Allow 4:2:2" option would have perhaps allowed the LG to display *something* at a 12/36-bit color depth. (Instead of dropping all the way down to 4:2:0, and failing to display anything.) Probably not, but I was a little disappointed that Vincent didn't mention whether he had tried that.

Great video. I believe the reason that the LG does not display the 12-bit color setting is because LG OLEDs are manufactured as 10-bit panels and the HDMI 2.1 ports have the same bandwidth limitations as the Series X.
Is being restricted to limited RGB gaming (oled tvs) vs FULL RGB gaming....not as big of an issue as people make it out to be? or does it offer a significant advantage in picture quality?

Why can't (or won't) it use the extra HDMI 2.1 bandwidth when in 60Hz mode? Shouldn't it then be possible to get 4K 60 10-bit (or HDR) in 4:4:4 or RGB? Which we can't with HDMI 2.0 bandwidth.

10 bit setting triggers hdr on my TV. Since I have different settings for sdr and hdr I'd leave it 8 bit since it will switch automatically to 10 or 12 bit accordingly depending on the source. PS. Thank you for the guide though, really helpful
I'm still a bit confused... So, owning an LG C9 (full hdmi 2.1 bandwidth) and wanting to play both SDR and HDR games (no media consumption whatsoever done in the XBOX), the takeaway is: HDMI Mode : PC Color Space: Standard Color Depth: 8bit (Since HDR will auto change to 10bit?) Allow YCC 422: Untick? Are these the correct/best settings for this TV?
All games and applications internally render in full range RGB. The conversion to limited range Standard on the Xbox would be an additional degrading step at the end. The C9 / CX with PC icon supports end-to-end full range RGB / Black Level High without internal YUV conversion. When the Xbox is capable of perpetually running in 10-bit full range RGB mode for both HDR and SDR, I don't understand why you recommend limited range Standard over full-range RGB in the C9 / CX video. If that video was not targeted towards C9 / CX owners, I'd agree.
I think it's obvious. Limited works with all video content like bluray, so you don't need to switch the settings on console when you want to watch a movie. For games it doesn't really matter, they will look the same.
@@rafamuniak You don't need to switch. The player expands limited range videos to full range correctly. If you use limited, the same thing just happens on the TV instead, since virtually all LCD and OLED panels are natively RGB.
Great video thanks Vincent. On an older LG OLED65B7V I’m assuming it has HDMI 2.0 so it should be better to run at 4K60 with 10 bit colour and YCC 4:2:2 enabled?
20:21 Mr. Teoh, how did you show all that information on-screen? Is that the 1-1-1-1-1 trick on the Auto tuning menu? My LG OLED from 2016 isn't showing the amount of information on-screen. So, is it dependent on the model you have or is there another option on my tv?
One thing I’ve been trying to figure is, can I use 10 bit with just SDR instead of HDR? Asking just because some games don’t support HDR so would 10 bit still work?
Yes, under SDR conditions the console will force its output to 10 bit if selected. As far as I have researched this may help with color banding issues. Play with it and see, I had the best results with keeping it at 8 bit though.
Important caveat for those also using their XSX as a streaming box for Netflix, Prime, etc. If you have VRR and ALLM selected in the settings, the XSX forces all content, including video streaming apps, into ALLM/IGR (not just games). When VRR is off and only ALLM is selected, IGR works correctly and only engages during gaming content.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve noticed the BT Sport app works correctly but no others do, even the dashboard forces to IGR. Wonder if this can be patched?
So I have a cx. I have 4.2.2 checked in the series x and selected 10 bit. But I have selected pc rgb. I noticed that in the Xbox menus it outputs the full 10 lanes to 40 GPS. But when I loaded up let's say forza horizon 4 it switched to that tm 8 bit for the 32 GPS. Is that because forza displays at 60 htz? And not 120 htz?
I upgraded from a 60inch 1080p tv to a 4k 120hz LG monitor about 2 months ago and for some reason the picture quality looked worse. I only just realized the other day it’s because I was rendering in 12 bit with YCC 422 enabled. Once I turned it back to 8bit 444 my games look infinitely better now.
Everyone should honestly leave it at 8bit. So when you're watching SDR content you get full 4:4:4. If you force 10bit or 12bit, SDR stuff will drop the whole way to 4:2:0 unless you have HDMI 2.1
Noticed you changed standard brightness and sharpness and all those then in hdr and Dolby vision modes you only lowered sharpness and color temp. Is there a reason you left color depth at 50 here instead of going to 55 like you did at beginning of video?
What are your recommended settings when using the Series X on an 4K 60hz 10bit hdmi 2.0 computer monitor? Should I use the PC RGB mode then? And should I set it to 8 or 10bit? So my question is: should I choose 10bit 420 or 8bit 444? When I have hdmi 2.0 with an 4k/60hz monitor

Allow 4:2:2 should work as it allows for enough bandwidth for hdr10 (and auto hdr) at 4k60 and 1080 120 hz (and 1440p 120hz), but looks like the Xbox SX drops to 8 bit hdr for some odd reason which is unfortunate.

The LG TVs have a bug that calls 4:2:2 content as 8-bit even if they are 10-bit or 12-bit.
They are true 10-bit and 12-bit but the FreeSync Info secret menu has a bug.

I hate that too. If you know what I mean.
Great video. I believe the reason that the LG does not display the 12-bit color setting is because LG OLEDs are manufactured as 10-bit panels and the HDMI 2.1 ports have the same bandwidth limitations as the Series X.

10 bit setting triggers hdr on my TV. Since I have different settings for sdr and hdr I'd leave it 8 bit since it will switch automatically to 10 or 12 bit accordingly depending on the source. PS. Thank you for the guide though, really helpful
Would love to hear your updated thoughts for the C1 now that it's got major firmware updates. Thanks!

Please record a video for the PS5 and the LG CX settings. It would be much appreciated.
I'm eagerly waiting for a video on PS5 too
Once it releases in the UK I'm sure he'll be right on it.
I'm still a bit confused...
So, owning an LG C9 (full hdmi 2.1 bandwidth) and wanting to play both SDR and HDR games (no media consumption whatsoever done in the XBOX), the takeaway is:
HDMI Mode : PC
Color Space: Standard
Color Depth: 8bit (Since HDR will auto change to 10bit?)
Allow YCC 422: Untick?
Are these the correct/best settings for this TV?
I showed this video to my friend who asked about getting the most out of his LG, it makes a night and day difference on some games and movies.
Wow! I am incredibly grateful for the explanations coupled with the demonstrations. Absolutely fantastic! I had to subscribe! :)
HDR on Xbox is always limited
I was wondering about this too.
@@vadimkrylov On HDMI 2.0.
If you select PC input for your XBSX would you still recommend standard colour space if your only using console for gaming?
Vincent: you gonna learn today!
Well done! Please do it for PS5 too!

Hello, what settings to use with Xbox Series X on a Samsung G80SD? I hope you will answer me!
Same. Have you run the calibration on the xbox yet?
Important caveat for those also using their XSX as a streaming box for Netflix, Prime, etc. If you have VRR and ALLM selected in the settings, the XSX forces all content, including video streaming apps, into ALLM/IGR (not just games). When VRR is off and only ALLM is selected, IGR works correctly and only engages during gaming content.
Thanks for the info. We don't recommmend using the streaming apps on the Xbox... use the ones on the TV instead for a better experience.

HDR add more stuff
I upgraded from a 60inch 1080p tv to a 4k 120hz LG monitor about 2 months ago and for some reason the picture quality looked worse. I only just realized the other day it’s because I was rendering in 12 bit with YCC 422 enabled. Once I turned it back to 8bit 444 my games look infinitely better now.
On my 60hz 4k TV, would you recommend turning on 12bit, if it works? Or keep it at 10 bit?
Everyone should honestly leave it at 8bit. So when you're watching SDR content you get full 4:4:4. If you force 10bit or 12bit, SDR stuff will drop the whole way to 4:2:0 unless you have HDMI 2.1
