Thank you very much for not only telling us what to do and how to do it, but why it is done too. This helps me understand why I'm doing what I'm doing and how I can fix things myself in the future. Much appreciated & fantastic video - I find YOU very palatable haha
Please do a best setting lg cx for ps5, how you did with the Xbox series x. I’m still confused about the gamma full/limited and black high/low settings for the ps5 and tv respectively. Thanks and keep up the great content!
I own series X purely because I had Xbox one before. I like their ecosystem better and controller suits me better as well. However I don’t think there is that much of difference between them two consoles and if I would start in PS ecosystem first I would probably stick with it purely because money invested so far. No need to hate each other because of toys :D
All you really need to know with PS5 due to its simple interface in comparison. Is to set black low on tv and instead of auto rgb on PS5 set it to limited. Then go to Hgig and turn on and then calibrate your ps5 hdr to that. Outside that all settings are the same. If you want 120fps in Cold War you must set it to performance mode in settings. It will then launch any game that supports 120fps like COD automatically at that setting. For some reason you can’t toggle off and on in game. You must force it. Also if you get flicker know that the 4k resolution setting at auto is set to 12bit. But will default to 10 on most fine. If you have an issue...going down 1 will hard lock it to 10 bit hdr. Going down to last choice will hard lock it to 8 bit. Outside that for troubleshooting if you have any further issues Hdcp can be a source of issues turned off or on. However if turned off Netflix, Spotify ect will not work.
I had this weird issue on my C9 where if I tried to start a game in 120Hz mode, with HDR and VRR on, the Xbox Series X just wouldn't output anything. Switching it to PC mode fixed that! This man is a legend.
Same, warm 2 makes skin tones look better, but anything that’s supposed to be white looks like a shade of yellow. Maybe it’s more accurate but I just can’t get used to it. Warm 1 is where I like it.
One thing I find really odd is that on the C9, you can use PC mode to get auto black level, but if you do that and the Xbox is set to Standard, the TV seems to still be going for High (despite the fact that the diagnostic menu clearly shows limited). Furthering the confusion, if you use the Xbox's calibration app, this mismatched state is the only one where you can see the top eye, so the console seems to want you to be mismatched. I'm really not sure who is more at fault here, but it's really quite annoying.
Great video. At first i wished you'd just written out the settings in the video description so i wouldn't have watch a 21 minute video, but your delivery was so interesting that the time flew by. Thanks for all the explanations and the humor!
Thanks for the video, but you completely skipped the "Video fidelity & overscan" section of the Advanced Video settingd to go over the Color Depth and Color Space settings that should be set on the Xbox
@@hdtvtest I am looking forward to it! Thanks Theo! You're awesome! 😇👌Just got my new CX 77 inch and testing with Xbox Series X. In pc mode the colors look even more incredible! I had never find that out by myself.. 😉👌
Thanks for these tips Vincent, excellent work as always! Do you recommend switching to RGB on the xbox settings too? Since you put the CX in PC mode. I believe its under the "video modes" setting on Xbox. Cheers and thank you once again!
@@jamespeploe6990 I think the 4:2:2 option basically undoes what Vincent tried with PC mode on the LG CX, as it would present the full 4:4:4 chroma correctly. If you own the same OLED I think that option should be off. Not sure about the color space on the Series X tho
If you switch to PC RGB, then you have to switch your TV's Black Level to high! LG Black Level Low = XBOX - Standard, and Black Level High = PC RGB. Lastly, setting your LG TV to Auto, automatically adjusts to the appropriate XBOX Color Space. Hopes this helps! :)
This is really helpful, thanks! Question: why setting black level to low if you engaged PC mode? Shouldn't be full range? If HDR is engaged, will it continue to use PC mode and the full 4:4:4?
Just to make some aware, you don't need to set colour depth to 10bit, if you leave it on default 8bit, when you launch a HDR game it will automatically switch to 10bit, that way you get 8bit for SDR games which I believe is best, and 10bit for HDR games.
I seen the Xbox series s live on Amazon uk for 10 minutes and it sold out , insanity confirmed , I really hope to find the series x on stock till Christmas wish me luck :D
Can we get a summary of the to-do's? It's nice having all the explanation and puns, but it'd be great to have a quick reference of all the tweeks to make.
oh, vinc - please explain the more detailed settings you were talking about in the end of the video :-) would be a joy and very helpful for lots af gamers, even if they dont use this tv or console.
Same here lol. Just got the cx48 for my series x. Haven’t opened the Xbox or the tv lol. May list on eBay if these issues aren’t resolved. I already have the one x and asus MG28UQ so I’ve got 4k/60 already. It’s 4k/120 or I’m selling it. Microsoft should’ve made an exception and rolled out a 27-28” monitor for the hardcore gamers out there. They are risking losing a lot of users to pc.
Thanks Vincent. Invaluable as always. Can I ask what the option for 'Allow YCC 4:2:2' in the Series X General Video Modes means and should it be left turned off?
the option is basically to output at 4:2:2 chroma when you watch content like movies or tv shows that use it (because otherwise it will be converted to 4:4:4). It will only switch to 4:2:2 when required or the content benefits from it - otherwise it will stay at 4:4:4. Pretty much the same for "allow 24hz" (movies) and "allow 50 hz" (pal content). correct me if i'm wrong. tbh, you could just leave the option off as I don't think it'll make that much of a difference.
Great videos love your work. 🙏 I noticed the same thing with my Series X on my LG. I can see a lowering of colour depth, and a change in the white point. I can also see a lowering of the resolution or textures. As if it’s using a lower resolution and then upscaling to 4K. But I also noticed the now instantaneous response with the controller in games, as long as I kept everything wired. And, after a LOT of testing on a PC the PS4 Pro and the series X, if I enable HDMI-CEC, pass through the audio and turn on VRR. The precision and accuracy increases further with analogue control, like smoothly keeping a moving targets head in your crosshairs. This takes your own performance, immersion, satisfaction and gaming experience in twitch shooters and intense/fast combat and action games to a new level. Since doing this I can now have the most amazing battles against massive odds. Games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, flight/driving games, and of course the most important for me, online PvP with games like Dark Souls. Once I stared having these great experiences I couldn’t go back to the high detail settings I use to prefer. I now also always use the high performance mode instead of high detail in the games settings if available. My LG screen only supports up to 60hz with Free and G-sync, I can’t wait to try out a newt display with 100+ refresh rates. 😃
If you press the left and right bumpers and the left and right triggers together in the calibration screen then it will display the minTML, MaxTML & MaxFFTML value in the top right corner of the screen. Simply set them according to your TVs specs.
I got the 48cx I’m stoked! The 55” was actually $100 cheaper for some reason but I’m used to gaming on a asus MG28UQ so 55” would be just too in my face lol. Can’t even imagine 77”
Hi, Vincent. Thanks for the settings and all, but there's something I'd like to talk about and I hope that you can investigate it. There seems to be a handshake issue between the Series X and the CX. I own both and sometimes the screen will go to black and show a No Signal message. This can happen randomly when I open a game or even sometimes while turning on the console. I have my Xbox Series X at 4K 120 without VRR. What I have noticed is that the secret freesync menu shows the info as running at RBG 8 at SDR and RBG 10 4L10 at HDR. Whenever the handshake issue (if it is that) happens and I'm able to restore the image, the info shows as YCBR420 8B TM at SDR and HDR. I would love if you could investigate this, as there are plenty reports of this issue, but I haven't read about what info the freesync menu shows. Thanks for all you do and I hope you read this.
@@yuzupon9998 I'm in the same configuration as you, yet I'm having problems with the auto HDR mode that disconnects and reconnects in the middle of the game. All xbox video settings are enabled, 4K 120hz, and on LG HD Deep Color and auto game response enabled. I have not activated the freeSync Premium. I also have an image problem on Netflix and UA-cam, a green line all over the bottom of the screen and all over the right side, at the limit of the LG panel and the TV fairing. I am connected with the original xbox x series cable, I changed to an 8k cable thinking that it came from there, I changed the HDMI port, update LG, and restore factory settings, the problem is still
@@doriansrvjn8541 I had the same problem, and though I don't know what the technical reason for it was, I solved it by unplugging the HDMI to my cable box. For whatever reason, the cable box constantly transmitting an image when it's in sleep mode was messing with the other HDMI inputs and causing my C9 to drop the Series X signal whenever I went from, say, the home screen to a game, or a game back to home, or home to a movie etc. I also couldn't keep the Series X in 120hz mode or it wouldn't work at all. As soon as I removed the cable box from the equation, it all started working flawlessly.
Those settings actually only affect the dashboard and games in SDR/Not auto HDR. The console always outputs limited range otherwise. The TV factory set for limited range, so there are other issues that are simply easier to avoid
@@PaybackZz are you running an HDR game when you check? The console outputs different formats for HDR and SDR. Also that menu is super buggy and not intended for end users
@@PaybackZz if you have your Xbox set to 120hz (which you should) it will yes. Setting it to 10bit is fine. It doesn’t really make much difference, that will just have the Xbox convert 8bit to 10bit rather than the TV doing it

Next PS5 on CX/C9! Don't forget to show us a game and play! :))
Would be fun!

Hey Vincent, it would be great to see you and @EvilBoris analyze the HDR content on Series X and PS5 games! 🎮
This was amazing I CANT WAIT FOR YOU TO DO A PS5 version of this please dont forget
I had this weird issue on my C9 where if I tried to start a game in 120Hz mode, with HDR and VRR on, the Xbox Series X just wouldn't output anything. Switching it to PC mode fixed that! This man is a legend.
Did you switch to pc mode on tv or the xbox?
Absolutely amazing explanation, cay you make one for PS5 ?
Ps5 is also a gaming system, the same TV settings should suffice.
The one thing I can't bring myself to do is turn on warm 2 ... it always makes me feel like someone just pissed all over my screen
Right couldn’t have said it better
Same here, I tried to use it but just couldn't. Dropped down to Warm 1 and felt better.
@@vdentertaiment4088 thx for the constructive reply...i'll give it a go
The Xbox Series X calibration program suggested to use Warm1 setting.
Thanks for the video, another one for ps5 would be really helpful as well thanks!

Do you recommend switching to RGB on the xbox settings too? Since you put the CX in PC mode. I believe its under the "video modes" setting on Xbox.
Cheers and thank you once again!
Is this the allow ycc 4:2:2? Im unsure if that needs to be ticked or not if in pc mode in 4:4:4
@@jamespeploe6990 Nope, just checked and it's an option on "Video Fidelity & overscan". On "color space" there is "standard" and "pc rgb"
Ah yh i seen that, you think it should be set to pc as were in pc mode? Also what do you tgink about the allow 4:2:2 setting as were 4:4:4 in pc mode?
Thank you so much!! I was wondering about the washed out screen after calibration before. Thanks for your tip regarding Hgig!!!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is really helpful, thanks!
Question: why setting black level to low if you engaged PC mode? Shouldn't be full range?

why tv color setting 'low' (limited range) dont match with xbox output set at PC (full range)?

Same here man but i still got the one x it still looks amazing! Only what makes me worried is burn in. I dont use the tv alot because of that.
Shouldn’t the Color Space be set to “PC RGB” as well???? Vincent didn’t mention this setting.
Thats only good if you use a pc monitor
No it shouldn't
Just to make some aware, you don't need to set colour depth to 10bit, if you leave it on default 8bit, when you launch a HDR game it will automatically switch to 10bit, that way you get 8bit for SDR games which I believe is best, and 10bit for HDR games.

Thanks Vincent. Invaluable as always. Can I ask what the option for 'Allow YCC 4:2:2' in the Series X General Video Modes means and should it be left turned off?
Same question please Vincent. In previous videos you said to Allow YCC 4:2:2, but in this video it wasn’t ticked.
I think it will disable pc mode if you enable 4:2:2
Same question here on the YCC 4:2:2 option. Great video altogether - it drastically improved my picture quality on E9. Thanks!
If you want definition set it off (gaming). Set it on it provides better depth colors but less definition (for movies)
the option is basically to output at 4:2:2 chroma when you watch content like movies or tv shows that use it (because otherwise it will be converted to 4:4:4).
I noticed the same thing with my Series X on my LG.
Was wondering if they fixed the bug for HDMI 2.1

I should have clarified that this issue is really pronounced when you use 120 hz mode.
Had to pause this video at least 6 times to keep up with him. Genius at what he does 👍
you sir have just received my subscription, besides the great humor, your sacrifice for bringing us this video is amazing. Thank you
Does it make sense to change the color space to "PC RGB" and the bit-depth to 10 bit in the Xbox' "advanced" settings?
Was hoping Vincent was going to cover that... Any help on that works be great.
