Depends on depth and where the fish are at in the water column. For Fall Chinook 20 to 35' on the line counter with 16oz of lead.

why not just use the VIP slider lock?

Those are great. As I mentioned in the video, you can buy sliders like the VIP slider lock that already prevent line twist.
But they are not sold everywhere and many people have access to the standard sliders that have been around for years.
I have accumulated years of regular sliders on hand(as I’m sure others do) that with minor modification can be just as effective.
But if you are starting from scratch and have no inventory of sliders and you have local access to the VIP slider locks, by all means, buy them. I like VIP products 😀
