Love em all, but personally fancy Tommy for the Over/Under. Quad a true masterpiece nevertheless. Love WHO. In any event, this young lady's musical reactions are stellar and make all my old favorites seem new again....at least as it is seen through her ears and eyes. Good health to all! Goodbye Sister Disco
Many have said it, but Quadrophenia is a masterpiece. The album needs to be heard from start to finish. Listening to the whole thing makes the grand finale of Love Reign O'er Me even that much more powerful.
I also thought that Roger once said that he may not be the best singer but he's the best singer for Pete's songs! As for Pete? He's a weird guy, he trashes everyone for reasons only known to him, I guess
This is the final song of "Quadrophenia", which many fans of The Who consider their best work. Roger Daltrey's performance on this song is one of the great vocal performances in rock history. The opening song of "Quadrophenia" is called "The Real Me", which features one of the great bass guitar performances in rock history.
This song is the climax of their rock opera, Quadrophenia. As you love The Who, I strongly suggest that you listen to Quadrophenia on your own some day, start to finish. Pete wrote the opera and it's his highest artwork. It's his Mozart, The Requiem. Maybe not that magnificent but Quadrophenia is a master achievement.
High school in the 70's, parked at the beach with your girl, the sound of crashing waves outside, Quadrophenia on the tape deck, rain running down the windows on one side while your breath steams them up on the other, finishing the album with this track ..... some memories never ever fade.
This is my favorite Who song and sometimes I think it is the greatest rock tune of all time, period. It has great lyrics, the most incredible vocals by Daltrey, a beautiful melody, an epic arrangement and the musicianship is impossibly great. There is nothing about this song that is not the greatest. Even the topic and theme of the song is at the highest level. Masterpiece of masterpieces.
I am a Who fanatic, lucky enough to see the real Who with Keith Moon at the Pontiac silverdome and it is so good to see someone else acknowledging that this song may well be the pinnacle of the greatest live band of all time, and may be the greatest song of an era that stands unmatched for music. Lucky us.
Love Reign over me, be my sovereign, my guiding principal, my guiding light, the center of my being. Fill me with love, let me see love behind and through all of existence.
I think that Pete means "Love reign o're me" as in a King or Queen reigning over a kingdom, so letting love rule over his life, and then of course "rain down on me" as in accepting and needing/wanting love to rule his life.
First . . . a BIG Thank You for bringing this song back to memory and my life. I had forgotten about this song as I dedicated to my GF (at that time in the 80s). Second . . . Once again . . . a great reaction. Yes this song is very touching! I love the way you broke it down in your reaction. It has touched and wowed MILLIONS of kids back then and it still brings back our great memories . . . so Thank you.
I wish there had been a video camera capturing Roger in the studio when he was singing the vocals for this song. It must have been a sight to behold. Pure passion in his voice.
‘behind blue eyes’ brings similar emotions…. And Roger Daltrey all time best at voice inflections… At the end , I can clearly picture Pete Townsend destroying is guitar Such a great band!!!
Wow, I wore this album out in high school! Such a powerful and emotional performance by Roger, what a voice! The big finale of this song just shows the desperation and longing of the character Jimmy, longing for connection, for that romantic love and then giving in and asking to find that love he has always missed....great stuff.
O'er is a poetic way of saying 'over' - to be found in Wordsworth, Shakespeare and also in the last verse of 'The Star Spangled Banner'. Always surprises me when reactors stumble over this usage.
Who Fan since the first album. Wonderful reaction. You could feel the song in your soul. Still love it to this day. One of rock's epic songs. Pete was just a genius.
Quite possibly my favorite Who song as well. Your reaction perfectly encapsulates not only the power of the song but the power of music to truly move us. I love your reactions because you are very real- whether you like something or not. But your passion for music and what it means to you is infectious.
I don't see these lyrics as "sad" as you described it. I always saw this as a proclamation of love flowing over one like rain. Rain has a cleansing quality to it, and you can feel it flowing over your body as it fills every nook and cranny of your body. Much like the love he shares with his significant other. I feel that the writer of this song was saying that the love he shares with another has an all-encompassing, refreshing and quenching quality that he craves. When he is separated from his love, he yearns for the return of this all-consuming passion that he only gets from the person he loves. I feel that this is where the soul & passion in his voice originates.
The great thing about being old is seeing some of the best bands I was grateful enough to see the Who a few times they are so awesome live great reaction
You know how I know that your channel is good and you will keep growing . . . I actually look forward to your next reaction / song choice. Keep it up and wishes for your great(er) success! AND I am guessing I am not the only one . . .
What a song and what an ending to an already epic album. To call both the song and the album masterpieces is an understatement. And Stacey I love watching you react to The Who.
I'm sure others have probably told you...but this was the closing track of the album "Quadrophenia" (1973). It was a so-called 'rock opera' and was adapted to a film in 1979. It's the best rock album as far as I'm concerned. ❤️
Stacey, don't forget about the play-on-words in the song: He's singing "rain" but he is also suggesting "REIGN". As in, "Love, reign over me!" -- be my majestic Monarch of a love that rules over my world! There is also that meaning that comes through.
Hey, Stacey. This song is breathtaking in its volume of emotion. It says that love is as elemental as nature and the air we need to live. Its impact can drown or future the soul. The proof being in your response. The Who were in the prime years when they recorded this music. But there is still more for you to hear. THE REAL ME, BEHIND BLUE EYES, LONG LIVE ROCK, and SQUEEZE BOX. Have fun with the last one. I can't wait to see your reaction. Keep going and enjoy the music.
This is subtitled “Pete’s Theme”. And you’ll appreciate this … when The Who performed Quadrophenia in its entirety, a certain guitarist joined them on stage for it. It was none other than David Gilmour =]
One of my favourite tunes. What is this love he speaks of is my question to you. For a while I asked people I met "what is love?" A favourite reply I got was from a young lady. She thought really hard to come up with a proper formula, then she said: "Love is warm feelings for a person or an animal." I said: "Even an earth worm?". She furled her eyebrows, thought some more and came up with this revision: "Love is warm feelings for a person or an animal larger than 15 centimetre (5.9 in)". I thought it was the funniest thing I'd heard and laughed uproariously. She was offended and never spoke to me again.
You excel in your reactions! i admire your ability to catch so much in just one pass of watching/hearing. I expect you will be around doing these reactions as long as you are willing to. Your voice is captivating as well as your beauty!
Thanks for your videos, I’ve been enjoying them lately. You seem so sincere. Many of these songs have been the soundtrack of my life. I’ll never know how I felt the first time I heard “love reign over me” or “sympathy for the devil”: I was just a kid, they were there all the time. There was no analysis, they’d come on the radio and my head would start bobbing. So it’s very cool that I can share in your joy and amazement when you hear these songs for the first time. It brings to me a whole new appreciation of these amazing songs that for me were always just there. So thank you, I hope you keep it up. Quadrophenia, in my opinion Pete's masterpiece! The emotion and power is because this song is really a prayer at the end of Quadrophenia This rock opera is basically about teenage angst. I went to the Quadrophenia tour at the LA Forum, and it was an amazing night. This song is the crescendo to the story of Quadrophenia, the story of a boy who has the four personalities of the individual members of the Who - Tough, romantic, carzy and imploring. Even though they are remarkable songs individually, when put together and in order, they tell the amazing story of the Rockers and Mods in late 50's and early 60's London. My single favorite song from the double-album is the first - "The Real Me". Enwistle just owns that song! Quick note: I'm an old drummer and Keith was my inspiration in style. I bought Ludwig because of Ringo,. but I developed my style from Keith and Corky Laing - fill after fill after fill. If there was a space, there was a fill. Hahahaha. Later, there came a genius named Neil who took it to a scientific level.
I was all twisted up. A boy from a small cowboy town that moves into the rich area for high school. My town's rough reputation made it rough for me, but I persevered. Just as I was starting to figure out HS, I catapulted myself into art college at sixteen and took it by storm. It was world of weird adults and a cocktail of drugs, alcohol and sex to fuel an extraordinary educational experience. By the time I was eighteen I felt that something didn't feel normal. My best friend told me it was normal to not feel normal. Others told me that I was right and If I came out of the closet It would be normal. I was the black sheep of my family so I knew they thought I wasn't normal. I decided it would be normal if I walked away from it all. Stumbling into a record shop looking at New Releases, I see a black and white photo, a guy in black standing in clouds. "$7.99. That's expensive. Quadrophenia? QUADrophenia! What is this? That's a bike. A nice bike." Flip it over. "Ohh He's dumped the bike in the water. Who is this? Oh, on his coat. The Who!?!" When I get home I discover a forty page album of black and white photos, lyrics and liner notes. It's an Opera and it is magnificent. The whole album builds to reach his guitar riff at the end. You need all four sides to appreciate this finale. Townsend wrote a whole album to give me the answer. Just let love reign over you like water. My friends noticed that I played the whole thing every time they visited. For a long time I played it every day. I bought a second copy and then a CD. I recently found a pristine copy of an original press for $20. Also that I have celiac disease, which explains everything. Love, reign over me. It's almost religious.
Check out the film Quadaphenia made in 1979 about the Mods and Rockers of the mid 1960s, the soundtrack is brilliant, checkout 'Out of my brain on the 5.15
Hi Stacey, I love your reactions, you really feel the music, and understand it. Your appreciation of the music I grew up listening to is a joy to see. Add to that the fact you are a beautiful young lady, makes your reactions unmissable.
This is certainly one of my favorite Who songs as well. You would probably really like The Real Me, another masterpiece. As a bassist I’m in awe of Entwistles bass work on this track.
I saw that cover by Heart in Great Woods MA a long time ago, they were respectful and magnificent, just like when they cover Zeppelin. True legends, playing other legends. We have been truly blessed.
Bright Angel Miss Stacey, I love the diversity of music and your heartfelt commentary. Thank you for all your hard work and the light you bring into our lives with your show. Say hello to your Cat.
Having older Brothers and Sisters The Who was the most played in our house next to Pink Floyd. This song was my sisters' fav. between and of them they had All of the Who's Albums and still have them today. Your reaction on this video was Awesome to this Awesome Song Love It!
Quadrophenia is the portrayal of a young man in England who is split, not in two parts (schizophrenia), but in four parts by trying to live with four different facets of his life. The double album opens with an instrumental that introduces these four areas, and each is then "assigned" to a different band member. In this epic work, each of these aspects has its own "theme" song, and each comes up in different musical ways in different songs. I always thought of it as the most well thought out musical take on the angst of the teens at that time in that place, the struggles they lived with, the chaos of their lives. Gangs, parents, therapies, jobs, all of life. "I went back to the doctor, to get another shrink, "He said, 'tell me about your weekend', but he never betrays what he thinks." "Can you see the real me, Doctor, Doctor?" That is from the first "song" and is just about as powerful as "Love, reign o'er me" And there are so many powerful songs in this work. What another person said, that "Love, reign o'er me" is even more powerful after hearing the entire work, is very true. And I agree that this was their greatest work. They have so many great songs. Oh, and check out this song from one of Pete Townsend's solo albums: "Pure and Easy"
Hey, Stacey! It’s great to hear that you think “Love, Reign o'er Me” is such a powerful and emotive song by The Who. It's the final track on their rock opera album "Quadrophenia," released in 1973. The song is known for Roger Daltrey's intense vocals and the band's orchestral arrangement, which really captures the dramatic themes. One of my favorite songs from them is “Pinball Wizard,” from 1969's "Tommy" album, and of course, “Behind Blue Eyes.” When I was a youngster, that's what we heard on the radio. I guess people miss those times so much because we weren’t actively searching for it; it was just what the era brought us and what was readily available. The story behind "Quadrophenia" is quite fascinating. It’s a rock opera that tells the story of a young mod named Jimmy and his struggles with identity and societal pressures in mid-1960s England. I think we can all relate to that feeling, which is why it resonates with me. With The Who, you know what you’re going to get: a powerful, rebellious mood. They have a remarkable ability to create music that speaks to the human experience, and it's wonderful that their songs resonate with you just as they do with me. That's why I hold them in such high regard. Keep it up! and thanks again! To you and your channel! Waiting for the next reaction! Cheers!
INCREDIBLE !!!. THE WHOLE ALBUM AND MOVIE IS.... SUPERB CHOICE STACEY XX. PERFECT FOR ME ESPECIALLY FOR OUR SOULS IN THE U.K.TODAY FOR REMEMBERANCE SUNDAY 🙏🏻🇬🇧X Thank You x And
So glad you loved this song, Stacey. It really is yet another of the incredible catalogue of music from this band. The opening, played entirely on instruments, is reminiscent of a rainstorm beginning, complete with Keith on tympani for the thunder. O'er is the poetic version of over. It's pronounced the same way, just don't make the 'v' sound. In this case, reign means to rule - as in the reign of a king or queen. I do love how you caught the double meaning in the sound of the word, though. Brilliant lyrical wordplay.
This the last song in the great movie Quadraphenia where the soundtrack was the WHO. It is the scene where Phil Daniels rides his scooter along the white cliffs of Dover superb
Unreal ending to one of the best concept albums ever, it always is so emotional every time, and I've heard it over 1,000 times at least. It is up there with Stairway to Heaven for Rock at its pinnacle art form. At some point, you need to hear Quadrophenia in its entirety, it will blow you away as a complete saga and alter your musical experience. Awesome reaction as always Stacey, another great song by the WHO you need to hear is the My Generation jam off of live at Leeds, many tout it as the best raw rock performance ever by anyone, they are on another planet with their power and glory. One of the best live albums ever, you will love hearing it some day. Enjoy! Rock On! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎻🎶🔥
I need to delve deeper into The Who really. I heard the Quadrophenia album for the first time all the way through about a year ago and it was splendid. This track was the perfect finale to it!
Watching you react to songs I have already heard reaffirms what I like about these songs. It is like listening to it with a fiend for the first time again. I thank you for all your videos and for all the other ways you interact with us. I am loving taking this musical journey with you. 🥰
Love this song and loved your reaction! The Who has been one of my favorite bands since my dad introduced them to me when I was a teenager. This is one of my favorite of their songs. I would say my all-time favorite is probably Behind Blue Eyes, but it is so hard to choose.
Not listened to this is some time. Thank you Stacey! The strings in this piece have always been my favorite part second only to Roger's soaring vocals.
Quadrophenia is the band’s masterwork. It’s a stunning achievement.
Oh yea.
I beg to differ.
I have Live at Leeds and Who’s Next above it,but great album nonetheless.
Whos next
Quad is no 1 😁@@TheCornishCockney

Many have said it, but Quadrophenia is a masterpiece. The album needs to be heard from start to finish. Listening to the whole thing makes the grand finale of Love Reign O'er Me even that much more powerful.
And the film Quadraphenia as well
This punk in the gutter agrees. And if you'll excuse me now, I have to catch the 5 15.
@gernblanston5697 It's their crowning achievement in my opinion. More depth and focus than Tommy.
It's a story. The punk meets the godfather was one of favorites.
Pete Townsend has always said that no one can sing his songs like Roger
Pete usually trashes Roger in the media when asked. He also trashes Keith Moon's drumming too...
He better say that or he would get another proper Roger punch in the kisser.
I also thought that Roger once said that he may not be the best singer but he's the best singer for Pete's songs! As for Pete? He's a weird guy, he trashes everyone for reasons only known to him, I guess
True, but Eddie Vedder certainly did it justice.
@@michaeloreilly2533 Eddie Vedder sucks IMO
Just when ya thought The Who couldn't get intenser... SO many incredible tracks.
Intenser? We know what you mean though 😉
This is the final song of "Quadrophenia", which many fans of The Who consider their best work. Roger Daltrey's performance on this song is one of the great vocal performances in rock history. The opening song of "Quadrophenia" is called "The Real Me", which features one of the great bass guitar performances in rock history.
A truly amazing bass riff. And a song that changed my life❤
This song is the climax of their rock opera, Quadrophenia. As you love The Who, I strongly suggest that you listen to Quadrophenia on your own some day, start to finish. Pete wrote the opera and it's his highest artwork. It's his Mozart, The Requiem. Maybe not that magnificent but Quadrophenia is a master achievement.
+1 Quadrophenia is a true masterpiece of music and should be heard as a whole.
I 100% agree. A masterpiece. Although thankfully he didn't follow Mozart's fate.
He aimed high and achieved much, classics inspired many rockers of 6o’s and 70’s
This song is the emotional climax of a 90 min rock opera!
There is only one thing i love more than the Who, it's watching people react to their music
The Who performed this song live at a huge outdoor festival in London around 1996. DAVID GILMOUR joined them onstage.
They actually performed the entire Quadrophenia album on their 1996 tour.
High school in the 70's, parked at the beach with your girl, the sound of crashing waves outside, Quadrophenia on the tape deck, rain running down the windows on one side while your breath steams them up on the other, finishing the album with this track ..... some memories never ever fade.
"The tape deck" takes me back. LOL

And Keith’s thunder at the end completes the storm effect.
Well said.

The whole album, Quadrophenia, is incredible. That's how to end an album.
I love how passionate you are about this phenomenal song. It's the last song on a 90 minute masterpiece. The best song on their best album.
Daltry was originally told to sing the song in a "subdued" tone and when he got in front of the mic, he said "Fuck that."
I wish there had been a video camera capturing Roger in the studio when he was singing the vocals for this song. It must have been a sight to behold. Pure passion in his voice.

No one puts as much passion and fury and emotion into a singular vocal shriek better than Roger Daltrey. Excellent reaction today, Ms. Stacy... 🙂

One of the most stunning performances I ever saw. The music just rolled off the stage and over us.
From the double album - Quadropenia. It’s their best work, after the early club years.

I have been listening to the Who for 50 years, and this song has been my favorite of there's since the first time I heard it.
Right there with you, the greatest live band ever
This is their best song imo, and one of the top rock songs of all time. Also one of the top 5 albums of all time, Along with Who’s Next.
Great song, one of the best by The Who👍👍
I was all twisted up.
Roger also really shows off his pipes in the song "Bargain."
Check out the film Quadaphenia made in 1979 about the Mods and Rockers of the mid 1960s, the soundtrack is brilliant, checkout 'Out of my brain on the 5.15
Quadaphenia is one of those films that if its on you end up watching it
Hi Stacey, I love your reactions, you really feel the music, and understand it.
They have so many great songs, this has got to be one of my favorites.
I played this over and over in my grand marshall in high school. Simply Perfect!
At the last Heart concert I saw in a small venue, Anne finished the concert with this song as an encore.
She tore the freaking roof off.
Wow, I would love to have been able to hear or see that.
I can Imagine ANN FREAKING WILSON singing this song. She would knock airline jets out of the sky!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for all your hard work and the light
you bring into our lives with your show. Say hello to your Cat.
Thank you... Nice to listen along to the songs I grew up with and see your appreciation. A different kind of music...
They nailed the run-up, they nailed the vault, and they nailed the landing.
Love your reactions . Its so nice to see someone enjoy duscovering these songs for the first time . Keep em coming
Having older Brothers and Sisters The Who was the most played in our house next to Pink Floyd. This song was my sisters' fav. between and of them they had All of the Who's Albums and still have them today. Your reaction on this video was Awesome to this Awesome Song Love It!
The most beautiful song of The Who. Masterpiece. ❤
Quadrophenia is my favorite Who album! Great stuff! Love the way they recreate the sounds of thunder and rain.
Such a great song.
I took my daughter to see The Who, two years ago. After 55 years, they still got it. Absolutely amazing live show.
EDIT: Subbed.
"I went back to the doctor, to get another shrink,
"He said, 'tell me about your weekend', but he never betrays what he thinks."
"Can you see the real me, Doctor, Doctor?"
That is from the first "song" and is just about as powerful as "Love, reign o'er me"
And there are so many powerful songs in this work.
What another person said, that "Love, reign o'er me" is even more powerful after hearing the entire work, is very true.
And I agree that this was their greatest work.
They have so many great songs.
Oh, and check out this song from one of Pete Townsend's solo albums: "Pure and Easy"
One of those songs that made me a fan for life (no other band even came close, lyrically or emotionally)!
Powerful! May rock reign again. Hello from rainy Portland, Oregon.
Who knew that the Who would do a love song? I always loved this from the time it first came out.
PERFECT FOR ME ESPECIALLY FOR OUR SOULS IN THE U.K.TODAY FOR REMEMBERANCE SUNDAY 🙏🏻🇬🇧X
Thank You x
And
Love this song love reign o'er me, it is also featured in the movie called Reign over me.
Seen it great movie
The 2007 Movie "Reign Over Me" uses this song a good deal. It's one of Adam Sandler's best movies.
With a fiend………done that many times in the 70’s!
Roger Daltry...without a doubt the most powerful voice in the history of rock. His voice could blow out the back wall of any venue on the planet.
Roger is the lead vocalist in my all star band and the rest of the Who are definitely on the team too
Love this song and loved your reaction! The Who has been one of my favorite bands since my dad introduced them to me when I was a teenager. This is one of my favorite of their songs. I would say my all-time favorite is probably Behind Blue Eyes, but it is so hard to choose.
I saw them perform Quadrophenia when it came out and still get goosebumps when I hear it.
1965... song ... I can't explain . Takes youtube to a different time , a different place...❤
Not listened to this is some time. Thank you Stacey! The strings in this piece have always been my favorite part second only to Roger's soaring vocals.
Quadrophenia... My absolute favorite WHO Album and Yes, this is my favorite WHO song. Such a Masterpiece!!
