Those were the days. Music was inspirational helping to keep us black folks in-line as best they could. Made us feel a sense of power in our lives. And helped us respect ‘the Fuss.’
I love the lush, shimmering violin parts in soul music from this period. Strings would seem at odds with soul music, but artists like Curtis Mayfield, Temptations, Isaac Hayes etc. showed that strings can add a lot of atmosphere. And Melvin Franklin's insistent "power pum pum pum, power pum pum" is brilliant and hypnotic.
After leaving Atlantic records co , The song Berry Gordy wrote for the Temptations with them retuning home to MOTOWN!!! great song and on point in 2022 more than ever!!
Norman Whitfield was the last producer to capture their passion and fire as a group IMHO . I have no idea if he produced this or not. I would not have bought this one if it was a single but it chugs along in similar fashion to their similarly mid-tempo funky tracks like "Shaky Ground". I prefer their more dynamic tracks with stronger hooks, but I had to check this out as I'm a big fan of earlier era Temptations. If you want to hear them do a message song that really kicks ass check out "Plastic Man, it's brilliant, and "Ball of Confusion" is about as hot as Motown gets.
Love the Temptations but seems like people forget about Damon Harris who came after Eddie Kendrick one of the best falsetto singers ever RIP Damon Harris gone but not forgotten 😢 ❤
this song and performance is genius. The lyrics still resonate after all these years. I never heard the full last verse before because the first lines of that verse were usually edited out I guess for time.
@besmith7093 I know right I love the afros as well I think no homo but they look handsome with the afros. My mom says there ugly sense it catches more grime in your hair but I kind of disagree I'm on the fence but I'm leaning towards more that it looks cool rather then grime.
Written and produced by Motown founder Berry Gordy. This was when the group returned to Motown, and also Dennis’ second tenure. ----------- Left to right: Founding member Melvin Franklin (Bass) (R.I.P.) Glenn Leonard (First Tenor/Falsetto) (Now performs with his Temptations’ tribute group) Last surviving founding member Otis Williams (Baritone) (Still performing) Richard Street (Second Tenor) (R.I.P.) Dennis Edwards (Tenor) (R.I.P.)
Somebody who is computer savvy should re-do this video ()or something similar to it) with Donald Trump's head on the shoulders of the Temptations' shoulders. That would be Donald Trump being the narcissist, egomaniac, self-centered , know-it-all etc. The video would go super viral!! I can just visualize Trump doing Melvin's part and Trump bragging doing Dennis' part!! Too funny!!
🎵🎼🎤 The way this song is structured is very similar to "Ball Of Confusion". Everything from Melvin singing the bassline to the order of the voices coming in. Go listen to both songs back-2-back. You'll hear the similarities. 😏
Songs like this are why RAGE is still on the telly. Only issue is when you didn't see the song title, Shazam/soundhound failed you, or can only remember the rhythm and have to track the song down with google fu.
@@bufordjonesiii2528 Right they did 2 albums on Atlantic here to tempt you and bareback after they left and came back Louis Price replaced Dennis during that time
Two originals are in this performance- Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin. Since Melvin’s death in 1995, Otis Williams is the last surviving founding member, and he’s still performing. Plus,David Ruffin isn’t an original member. He replaced Elbridge Bryant in 1964.
The Temptations stay the best group each decade. No era is better than another due to the fact that music changes, so they stay with the times. The voices are always on point as is the stage presence. And Paul Williams will always be my favorite. Keep up!!!!
🙄 Lord, please spare me the ignorant, racist, jealous troll who’s someone they don’t need to be just bugging for a fight they CANNOT win. No, @MikeDamico…YOU’RE CORNY.
Melvin killed that BASS
Melvin had my heart melting with that incomparable BASS!!!❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Melvin was the man!
Facts Bro
Damn Melvin Killed This
He got that style of bass singing from his mentor William
Bobo of the Dixie Hummingbirds who was much lower and louder than him.
They Said That Melvin Was The Best Bass Singer In The Business.. And I Strongly Believe That Opinion Indeed.
Yes he did
Dennis nails it.
*All the time🥰*

You can tell Dennis Edwards has a church background when he sings he really takes you to church. I love it
So Does Jimmy Ellis From The Trammps…Preacher Vocals
All of the Temptations came from the church.
Along with touring with his own
Temptations’ tribute group,
Glenn Leonard is also a pastor since 1986.
Tell It!!!❤❤❤
You're right. His father, Dennis Edwards, Sr., was a pastor.
Dennis Edward vocals 😮

Bad Jam!! Their return to Motown in 1980!
Only discovered this song a week ago and this is by far my favorite late era Temptations jams!
My favorite Musical Group: The Temptations! 🎤
A Strong song that didn't the radio airplay that it should have.
Tooooooo political
The song did have radio play, but it was pulled due to the riots in Miami back in 1980.
I remember seeing this on a Saturday afternoon when I woke up on WGN-TV Channel 9 . POWER The Temptations

That song is powerful with great funk and bass beat of "Power". THE TEMPTATIONS.
One of their most underrated written by Berry Gordy
Heard It All Over New York Radio During 1980

This song just like Ball of Confusion is what we are living NOW!!!
Power pum pum, Power pum pum pum, Power!!
I Swear That Was The Part That Stayed In My Head For Years... Power Pum Pum!!.....
I saw them on Soul Train singing this song. I been looking for years to find it. Great song! Very powerful! ✔️👍🏿🌎💪🏿💯
