I've said for years that you don't need a "real" recording studio to make radio-ready recordings.
A modest home studio setup will do the trick just fine.
But a buddy of mine asked me "Do I even need studio equipment or microphones to record? Can't I just use my iPhone?"
The question made me pause...CAN YOU make a record on an iPhone? And nothing but an iPhone?
    I decided to find out.

As a gearhead, I get caught up on labels and equipment rather than focusing on creativity and craft. Holy smokes! As a 52 yr old that lived through the 70's/80's where iconic studios like Electric Lady and Muscle Shoals Sound down here in the South, your video absolutely floored me. This technology will open up doors for talented musicians all over the world. I remember being a long haired teenager in the early 80's, sitting in my bedroom and dreaming of one day laying down some tracks. This technology will make that dream come true for the next generation. Thanks for doing this video. Apple should be featuring (and paying) you.

Sure, the iOS version has its limitations and some basic features are missing like cross fade, automation panning etc but it’s got everything I need and now with 24 bit support and a decent interface it’s really powerful! So smooth on the 10.5” compared to the 9.7” pro model; all the super annoying “optimizations” are gone and the zoom in effects when holding on one end of a section is actually smooth lol Can’t wait for the next major update!!

Great to see you trying this! The internal mic has a auto gain and high pass filter on it. You can turn that off in some apps. AUM is a great mixer app. In the settings of AUM you can turn on the “High Quality” setting. This will give you a lot more low end as well as get rid of auto gain that will help you with room noise. For this to work make sure to open AUM first, then it will have control of the audio system. You can then feed AUM into GB via inter app audio. There is also quite an advance ecosystem of plugins on the App Store. Shameless plug: I am the developer of “Goose EQ” a very simple to use yet advanced EQ Audio Unit plugin that can be used in GB or any iOS DAW. Please give it a try. I would love to see you explore the audio apps on iOS some more!

Thanks so much for this video! I downloaded your guide...I've been a musician since age 10--play piano, keyboard, guitar and sing and am also a songwriter; have been told that I was "prolific." I was watching how you recorded the song as far as editing--it was really interesting because the one time I recorded a demo CD, it was all instruments first, vocals last and I STILL hated the finished product, thinking, "I paid $100 for THIS?" that was in 1999 and $100 for a 3 song demo was money wasted. Now currently unemployed, :( I'm remember jamming with musicians, some of them prominent who've asked me, "You have such talent, why on earth are you NOT letting it show?" I'll just say that if my application of what I'm learning from you proves not only successful but the dream that I'd abandoned for AGES(having been told by my parents that it was nothing but pie in the sky), I'll be more than grateful for this door you've opened for me...I already am!

This put a new confidence in making music for me! All I have is my iPhone so I thought GarageBand would be a really great baby step into producing, and you proved that!

This proves my problems aren't my mixes or my mics it's that I'm not good at arranging or production which no one really teaches I wish you would do more videos on how you build out a compositions because my chords and vocal mixes just don't cut it.

Yeah man you smashed it with that tune. iPhone or not that’s a banging tune . I’m glad I watched it . I’m only a novice at producing but garage band app is so easy to use but the version on the iMac is a lot harder to use especially if you don’t know what you doing but luckily I’m a quick learner . I’ve banged out about 10 tunes .I’m a drum n bass old skool scratch master DJ so I have a good ear and that tune you came out with sounded the nutts . I got some good tips aswell thanks a lot mate . Keep up the inspirational vids 👌👌👌👌👌

Bro, great song! Mission accomplished, too. You’ve inspired me to use what I have to go ahead and start doing some recording I have been putting off, because I didn’t think I had the right equipment in my bedroom studio. I have some decent equipment, including some pretty good mics to upgrade from the built-in mic in the iPhone, but I was thinking that I needed to get a more recent multi track recorder.

Right now I’m using a Motu M2 interface for my starter guitar into the standard GarageBand sims over the stock virtual drums and bass (via the keyboard), vocs into the Apple plug-in headphones, into an iPhone 7. With the right adjustments and layering the sound quality is ridiculous! I’m going to have to video it as done here, because no one believes it
    Love the lyrics here!
