Wel well.. you can now use pro tools sketch in iPad to record and program nice stuff, since most iPads are usb C it’s doable
$30 a month subscription probably lol GarageBand is free, and like the other guy said, logic on the iPad

@@lespaul2550 I love protools as well but the equipment is outdated everything acid outdated with a little tweaks here and there now UAD are on point with everything music pros, LUNA on IOS would change the game

This actually isn’t really new. It just happens to be that USB-C is available now on the phone. During the pandemic, I was doing live streams using my iPhone, a Focusrite 2i2, a lightening port to USB connector, and recording in my camera or streaming live. I did a video about it three years ago. I would love to see more iOS software design specifically for this because I think it would be a really huge game changer for people who only have portable devices.
Yep!! It works great with Garageband!! Although, the only thing that was a downside was that you had to have your iPhone plugged into a power supply, which I think is something you should do anyways while working on music/recording audio and video at the same time.
What software interface are you using?

Hi! Wondered if you could help seeing as you've been doing this a while - for some reason, in both Video & Voice Memo, it's coming through only the left ear. This is not the case when I record into Garage Band on my phone, so I'm not sure what is happening. Any help greatly appreciated!
@@kactapuzzle noticed the same thing...maybe it is only seeing a mono signal but expecting stereo. Might try using two mics..
With an IOS version of Logic or ProTools you could mail an artist a kit with this unit and a mic with another box inside with prepaid postage and a RA. They could pull up a cloud version of a completed instrumental session, record several dry vocal passes and a producer or engineer could probably finish the track before the package makes it back to them. Very exciting stuff!🎉
Providing 48V phantom power while using the built in headphone amp off the cell phone battery is very impressive!! The RME Babyface should work this way as well as it is also class compliant.

I've been running an iPhone XR with an Apogee One into Garageband for a few years now. It's super powerful. I can get 80% of the way there with just this and a JHS colorbox V2. And I can fit everything in a small bag. It's really great for traveling.

I do this too with an ipad 9 and an iphone Xs Max! Muuuch better than taking laptops and all other stuff when you need to recording things on the go!

Please help!!! How can I use this to record a video?! I’m plugged in for vocal and piano through Volt and plug into my phone but won’t record through video.
iPhones and iPads have been used in live audio for almost 10 years now LOL you had to use the camera connection kit to get lighting to USB but the iPad Pros are USB-C and have worked flawlessly for things like live synth rigs using plugins and routing no keyboard or synth could do with Apps like AUM or Amplitube as a live guitar rig setup. Also Cubasis is the best multitracking DAW for iPhone and iPad. It can record up to 96K with 24 inputs and outputs. But I don't think I would try more than 8 to 12 inputs at a time with a phone, but the iPad can handle it no problem. Fabfilter and many of the other big plugin brands have ios/ipad versions in the app store that work as plugins. Cheers!
ios has actually supported any “Core Audio” devices for a long time with the Camera Connection Kit that converted lightning to USB 2.0 but this is definitely more convenient. I’d assume people who say this doesn’t work are using interfaces that require drivers/software

Do you know what’s funny is that I went to guitar Center and bought me a used volt one to see if I could do exactly what this video was talking about (and it worked!) because I was impressed with the iPhone 15 working with my USB AKG Lyra Mic. I am super impressed with the zero latency monitoring that I get from BandLab with tons of effects on the monitoring!

I've been using an interface with a lightning adaptor for a few years now. Steinberg UR22C
The idea that you can now use USB C Interfaces with video and log footage is pretty compelling for the DIY artist. I’ve used a Preasonus iOne interface for a while now and it’s ok… I like my SSL better though. But one thing you might have misssed is that GarageBand on iOS does have a multi track recording feature so you don’t totally need to split things in post… Would be interesting to see a Nashville style songwriter production done entirely on a phone and a few hundred bucks worth of mics and interface. Maybe a video idea?
I did a video on this too. The iPhone 15 Pro Max can power a Arturia Keylab 49 Essential midi controller too. You can use the Arturia Interface and power the midi controller.
I believe the class compliant interface thing rules out most anything with software control like an Apollo would have. I have Apollo solo usb-c and have been led to believe it can’t be used or definitely not controlled with the new iPhone or iPad. Would be nice to get synced up stereo imbedded audio for video for sure. UA console for iOS would be the real game changer.
For better mobility on the road I highly recommend the tiny cheap Focusrite Scarlett Solo converter. Works great!
Finally Apple will let you guys enjoy the possibilities Android users have been enjoying for many years!

I recorded whole podcasts using a Scarlet and Cubase le in side by side split screen with the camera recording the video on my s22 ultra 🤷🏾♂️
This has been possible on android for years. used an old samsung with a motu m4 in 2020 for my live streaming performances.

I use a Volt 176 to record a 48V shotgun mic for my instagram content. The ''One mic input'' interfaces are already in mono and so in centre.
Direct in, well pisitioned mic, vintage drive and comp activated and its just gorgeous! :D

We were connecting audio interfaces to iPhones and iPads for years using the camera kit because you’re gonna want it charging while you’re using it.
Nice mobile setup. I use an MOTU M4 with my iPad the same way, should work with the new iPhone the same. Interested in how much battery the interface drains from the phone while recording video.

I was planning on doing a video on the same subject, and still might. The challenge is that there are many ways to do mobile recording. This is just one more way that might appeal to some. Arguably, the cleanest way would be to get a Zoom F3. You have two XLR inputs and can record on the device.
Another option is to buy one of the many great USB mics and plug it directly into the iPhone with no need for an interface. My favorite is the Shure MV88+. It offers studio quality and stereo if you want it.
Shure also has the MVX2U with is a micro interface that jacks directly into the XLR port on your mic. It then goes into the iPhone via USB. Pair that with something like an SM58 and you are good to go. I have been experimenting with all of these options and find that the bottleneck to productivity is the lack of good production software for the iPhone.
I used to do 4 channel recordings on an ipad, so the new iphone will probably handle interfaces with more preamps!
Delightful! I run a MOTU M4 on my M1 Mac mini with Rode NT-1 LCD Condenser mic. and Sennheiser e935 Dynamic microphone. Hopefully my M4 will work and allow me to film and record remotely with this setup! Good video.

Thanks so much for this video! I didn’t even know you could charge things with this 😅. I ran vocals, guitar, and a midi drum pad USB out from my Voicelive extreme vocal/guitar processor into a regular dongle and it worked perfectly 🎉

The Shure MV7 via USB-C has been working well for me. Haven't tried the scarlett 2i2 yet...
I plugged my Focusrite Scarlett in and found that the video app had me recording in stereo and it only hit the left ear. If I wanted to record a mic and a guitar and not have them hard panned, how might I do that?

You already Can do that. No needs iphone 15 😂. Just bye a camera adaptator and power bank for some models.
i wonder if this would work with a mixer in between, so you can already have reverb etc going into the camera in stereo as you shoot the video so you don't have to add it later. if you end up trying it, please make a video on that too.

I did this with a Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD, yes I just needed a lighting to usb (so I can have power charging the phone, and if “travel” than a power bank.) and using garage band 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah that's crazy I didn't even think about that. My Behringer U-Phoria UM2 works with it with a usb-a to usc-c adapter.
Also apparently my Note 10+ I've been using for over four years will also do this.

It would be interesting to hear, if also multichannel interfaces are supported. We have a Behringer XR18 in the rehearsal room and occasionly we record the rehersal. Would be cool doing so without the Mac.

Besides powering the interface, nothing you couldn’t do with an iPhone 6 and a camera adapter, when the interface can be powered externally. With the newer camera adapter, you could even power the iPhone while having an interface or usb mic connected.
I have filmed and recorded 2 hour live gigs with iPhones and stereo mics since the iPhone 6.
If you would film a 2 hour gig having your interface connected and using phantom power, how long would the iPhone 15 last?

He's saying something that doesn't seem to be correct, but what would I know? How long can you run an interface from an iphone battery? I wouldn't advise it. You need an adapter with 2 ports to attach to the iphone: one for the interface (Volt) and one to charge the battery at the same time. For an iphone 12 you use a camera adapter which has a card reader; a usb-2 and a lightning port. You plug the usb-2 cable from the interface (Volt) into the camera adpater, and the lightning cable of the camera adpater into the iphone. Then you plug your lightning cable from your charging adapter that came with your iphone which is plugged into an outlet into the lightning port on the camera adapter into the lightning port into the iphone just like you would if you're charging your iphone. This way the power is coming from 2 sources while your iphone stays charged. The same concept would work for a usb-c port instead of a lightning port.

I used audio interface (scarlett 2i2 ) in my [Redmi note 10 pro max ] i recorded and also used for my Zoom Call for high quality live streaming just through Android Phone ... it was Good !!

It had to happen many live recordings straight the mic of phones sound "great" on a cell phone... this will make it the new normal.. next up .. a daw to sync phones for multi track recording .. to think I started doing this on tape ..

The 15 and 15 pro max have different USB specs I’m pretty sure so this may work in your 15 pro max but would be interesting to know if it works on the basic 15. 15 Pro max is faster from what I read.
It is faster, but both deliver power, so I see no reason why it wouldn’t work. The regular iPhone 15 has USB 2.0 speeds, my 15 promax has USB three speeds. But USB two is more than fast enough to record multi channel audio.
will this work with iPhone 14 Pro Max ? what extra cords do I need ? I use volt 276 ? I can record video with Iphone 14 pro max in back of volt 276 and hook up a shure smdb mic to xlr ports volt 276 and get sync audio correct ? Now if they would make iPhone reaper. Logic iPad is nice. But the free daw options are limited. And the ones that you pay for just aren’t powerful enough to do anything other than track and light light mix work. With my iPad I can at least throw stuff through my hardware mastering rig. But on iPhone there is no insert option like Logic. And with GarageBand it’s very difficult to set up a hardware rig. We are almost there. iPad can do it. iPhone hopefully soon.
So this means in the future no more reasons for an i rig 😮
I stop using the iRig due to this Volt UAD interface, is awesome using Thu overload software, under rated simulation amps program.

Interesting, which model of iPhone were you recording on? I thought you had to have an external drive to record, ProRes LOG?
A couple of questions that hopefully someone can answer
First, I want to clarify, are you saying you can just run the USB-C cord straight from the VOLT into the iPhone 15 and use the camera app to film video with the audio coming into the phone from the VOLT?
Second question, so the audio interface has to be Buss powered?
I have a Syndio Live Duet and try this, but it doesn’t seem to work, which I’m assuming is because it may not be a Buss powered unit.
Excuse my lack of knowledge on this. I’m just trying to figure out a way to be able to record video from my phone and get audio to it from a mixing board.

Would be good with the Rode Rodecaster Pro II as a multi purpose travelling interface which'll allow processing before recording or streaming.
I did check if it would work with it and it would.
You'd only need a power bank to power the Rode Rodecaster Pro II, but the iPhone 15 pro did a bad job of battery running time so it wouldn't be such a bad idea to do that.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to say as quite a few people on UA-cam haven’t had luck connecting an interface to it. But this one worked great for me. So I can’t speak to other interfaces.
