Looks like Australia makes some great fish and chips. Cheers, from your northern cousin, Canada.
Love your videos mate! Keep 'em coming.
Eric mate
What's up my man Greg?
I've been seeing this guy everywhere lately.
Well, Huge Cheers for that Aaron. I'm from America, living in Japan for 20 years, and I make food videos. Any questions?
Missed out on an Eric/Greg collab. Lets get Greg to Japan pronto!
As a Brit, I kinda assumed that we were masters of the fryer. It wasn't until I had a couple of trips to Oz that I realised that the humble 'fish and chip' shop in Australia is worth 10 back in the UK.
I was blown away with the range and quality.
noway lol
@Harry Harris are you saying australiann fish and chips are better than the uk? if so, then you are crazy 0-o
You haven't been to pontnewydd chippy here in Cwmbran, South Wales, not the OZ version of 'NEW SOUTH WALES' but the original Welsh South Wales!
We got way better fish n chips in Australia our sea food cattle poultry is way better then your dump of a country like our curry is even better be quite pommy our oceans/sea's/rivers anything shut up dork🥱@@joannereadman2735
"They'll go through ya like a freight train" 😂🤣😂
When I visted Australia I ate fish and chips and I saw heaven..It was really delicious I want to eat again ㅠㅠ❤ love from Korea
We used to have a place like this here in California that was really good. It had everything you listed and more and was really great quality. The best part is that the owner didn't care a whole lot about money since he retired at a young age and sold the food at a very good price. It was really a shame when he decided to finally close up shop so that he could enjoy his senior years. We need another place like it again.
As much as I like a battered sav, I always get potato scallops. Fair dinkum fish and chip shops will always add an extra potato scallop or two as well. I've got a favourite place in Canberra, when I ask for three potato scallops, I can almost always guarantee I'll come home with five of them.
*I don't even have chips UNLESS they come with chicken salt*
What is chickensalt?
Deplorable Vegan it explains itself CHICKEN FLAVOUR SALT
Chicken salt and vinegar
You try the Nando’s Peri Peri salt?
no.. its fucking disgusting ...
Currently travelling and haven’t been home in 3 1/2 months, this brought me back home. Thanks for that Greg.
"goes thru you like a freight train". My favorite line in the commentary. Go Greg!
NOTHING LIKE A NICE PLATE OF FISH AND CHIPS.
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU IN ALL CAPS ALAN SMITH.
HELLLLLL YEAH
White Night hey Eric is here 👍😊✅❤️
Borned in Melbourne living in Greece now thanks for the memories
That looks amazing. I wish we had proper fish and chip shops here in the states. One thing we do have is in the state of Wisconsin, they have a fish fry tradition using walleye, which is very good.
Your food channel is by far the best on UA-cam. The ones I've seen in America such as "Daym Drops," "Report of the Week," and " Joey's World Tour" are just so devoid of any substance. Your channel is a great balance of entertainment and information.
casualgamerreed is the best food reviewer in the US
in buffalo ny our 'fish frys' come with a giant piece of battered haddock (some places offer broiled / blackened / cajun) , the side options are always french fries, coleslaw, potato salad, mac salad, or baked potato, and it always comes with a couple containers of tartar, a lemon wedge and sometimes bread : ) the australian version looks awesome! - cheers - !!!
Wow a bit different to what I've had here in New Zealand. I LOVE your enthusiasm!
Aussies and us New Zealanders love our fish and chips. We also have bluff oysters, which you have to try one day. Enjoy your videos keep up the great work :)
A big part of the British, Australian, and New Zealand cultures
@@lisamcdonald1014 yes you are right there, fish and chips are a big part of that culture 😊💕
Thanks again
Both NZ and Aust. have awesome fish and chip shops. So different then what we have
here in Canada.
Loved your video here. Glad to see the apple hasn't fallen to far from the tree; as much of this chippy cuisine is the same as the UK. One major dif though... 5 times more chips in the UK and the fish fillet's are bigger too. Nice though. I'm hungry now.
I spend 8-9 months a year in Thailand and of the things i miss from back home is the Fish and Chips.
True. But at least there is plenty of doodle here
Looks damn good. So is there a rivalry between Australia and England over who has the best F&C? Greetings from San Diego!
Greggo, Thanks for the memories, mate! Everytime I visit Goldie from Melbourne, I usually go to all the places you stop at and have same snacks, love going to Mermaid Beach!
"A wide variety of drinks..." *pans to a fridge full of Coke and water 😅
Are we looking at the same fridges? There’s coke water lemonade Fanta ginger beer
Nice try bud
Dear Greg,
I'm not from Australia, do you have any tips on how to eat this? Should I start from the top or bottom?
Looks nice and tasty love from USA
It’s 2019 now!!
Skye Panda Really Sherlock?
@@skyepanda9256 it's 2020 now!
YEEEEEHAAAA
It's C O R O N A V I R U S now
Greg, In Kiwiland we call a battered Savaloy a Hotdog. To remove confusion we call the Frankfurter in a roll, an American Hotdog. The potato scallop is called a potato fritter. We also get curry rolls and battered meat patties that taste great too. Calamari rings are called Squid rings here. We don't tend to get those yummy looking dim sims or the prawn ones. I tried your Oz fish and chips (or should I say fush and chups) when I was in Melbourne last year. It was very noice. Of course it has to have a generous dollop of Watties Tomato sauce. You will have to come over to NZ one day and try our takeaways (or as we sometimes call it Taak e are ways to give it a local feel).
Can't beat The NZ fish n chips
Cant beat kiwi fish and chips lol
saveloy is a different sausage to a frankfurter/hotdog
where i am in Australia we just call a battered saveloy a dippy dog
Jealous you get to have this. Australian fish and chips looks amazing!
*Now here in australia we lOve our fish 'n' chips*
Me: we sure do!
I'm new to your channel and i love your videos. You have so much energy and look like you enjoy making them.
That crispy sound makes my mouth water!
I love watching Aussie TV over here in America. Offspring, Mc Clouds Daughters The Block.................I have often wondered what the inside of a chip shop was like! Thank you for this video!! Is this shop typical of all shops? With all that fresh seafoods?
Potato fritter Greg. Never heard them called Scollops before. Mind you I am a Kiwi. 😎
Hey Greg, you should try Chevron Island Seafoods, surprisingly, on Chevron Island! Best fish and chips I've had on the goldie!
MALT VINEGAR!! I've seen you review several fish and chips places....but never seen you do the Malt vinegar! I LOVE it! :)
where i live we love a catfish po boys cajun style with thick cut fries/chips. it is simply heavenly
Omg love the range of fish 🐠🐠 and looks delicious enjoy 😋
Bloody love this video mate. I still remember playing the old pinball machine as a kid at my local chip shop.
at my local fish n chip shop i always grab a burger with some beer battered chips with chicken salt, a potato scallop and a dagwooddog and i love it so much and so cheap too!
Where's the tartar sauce?
Tommy Darko | *wheres the lamb sauce!*
Yeah where is the LAMB SAUCE?
Gotta have tart's hair sauce!
yea ikr
it done a runner ta ta
Good on ya mate! i had been in Australia for about 10 years for Uni and work. Miss those Fish and Chips heaps.. sad that have no proper Fish and Chips shop in place where i am living..but appreciated for bringing back all the tasty memories ! my favourite was crumbed sea scallop tho :). keep up the fantastic work mate!
Battered dimmies are the best! In Vic we have the Sth Melb Dim-sims, which are DELICIOUS!
A Battered Sav is called a Hot Dog in New Zealand, Potato scallop is called Potato fritter.
Im not sure completely but I think in Australia the shops can be quite expensive? Where as here fish and chips is considered cheap and cheerful, most places are more about price than quality. But there are some fancier shops
What type of fish was that big piece. I usually go for a flake
Haha nice one Greg, been to that joint it goes alright. I always ask if the potato cakes are bought or home made, home made ones taste soo much better.
If you ever come to to the UK, you need to come to Nottingham and visit Cods Scallops, proper chips cooked in Beef Dripping, totally to die for!
We can get Spring rolls from the Chinese shops in the UK
Grew up in Taree/Old Bar, NSW.
Where's the malt vinegar, mate?
What do you mean by deep fried or battered?
Love your videos. Awesome food review definitely going to that fish and chip shop. Keep up the amazing videos and make sure to add the chicka-roll next time.
im in australia and was born there and i love their fish and chips! 😍
Where's the Aussie Chico roll mate ????
No, battered sav is coated in batter, not cornmeal like at places these days in Australia.
Excellent, Greggo. But what happened to the good old pickled onions???
Greg that all looks absolutely delicious, especially that battered sav...mostbof that you have on your tray we have innthe uk...but not all innthe fish shop atbthe same time , fish and chip shops in the uk, we call chippies. ?
I'm always seeking out a decent Fish 'n Chips recipe. What a variety of fish you grabbed! Good video.
man i always hated the idea of fish and chips but man that looked amazing. Thanks greg i actually have to go out and try some of this
Greeks always had the best Fish and Chip shops here in the swamp(Melbourne).
yep agreed! now the asians run it not so good
@Kristof Alexyua-cam.com/video/ChWHLDb0HlI/v-deo.html
What type of fish was it? Red Snapper, Barra? Shark?
I like that you explained how it was made Aussie.
I'm from London, UK and I'm going to start a petition to get the battered saveloy onto our chippy menus!! Love a good saveloy
I can’t get enough of battered hot dogs
Born here and never actually seen a Frankfurt in that kind of batter just the usual Pluto pup. Yum 😍
I always get whoever to drown my fish and chips in vinegar. Have you tried "Captain Hook's" At Tugan? Not bad there too but the best I've had was out at Stanthorp.
Thank you so much for this video. I am living in America - where I just can't get this kind of stuff (at least not edible versions) - so this makes me feel so much better.
Andrew Costello Come to England! It’s the homeland of the fish and chips.
Wario: waaaa garlic prawn
Mario,: I like fish and chips
Has anyone ever tried instead of using bread crumbs on fish , used finely crushed potato chips ? I've never done it but been told its a nice flavour and a bit like fish and chips together. Potato on the outside and fish on the inside.
Curious if you or others here have tried this at home and what was the result ?
I had fish and chips in New Zealand back in July 2004 and yes, I love spring rolls, they are fantastic. And yes, in Canada, we call it fish and chips. I never heard of Seafood on Mermaid, but it sounds like a great place to get fish and chips and all of that yummy stuff.
Brilliant video Greg. Your fish and chips shops are awesome. Oysters in their shells in a fish and chip shop? The most exotic thing we get in the UK is Pickled cockles and mussels in jars!
A very tasty lunchtime assortment
My mouth is already watering. Phil.
You can't beat fish and chips in Whitby Northern England but they look absolutely lovely..
I would love to try aussie fish and chips Greg! However in my country you can’t find them anywhere, what we have in Nicaragua that’s our version of fish and chips it’s called fritanga which is nothing like fish and chips
Photo scallop sandwich is the best thing used to do this all the time as a kid
Great choices there Greg. I always get scallops with my fish and chips. Amazing for those night where you don’t want to cook.
No malt vinegar or spicy cocktail sauce/ketchup? (or is that not an Australian tradition?)
This was do enjoyable. English style fish & chips, namely beer battered cod is my death row meal. And of course, go heavy on the tartar sauce.
Vinegar on the potato scallop (we call them potato cakes in Victoria) and chips. Lemon on the fish, dead horse ( tomato sauce on the battered sav and dim sim). Hungry now.
I never comment on your videos but I watch all of them you make the videos very enjoyable to watch and I love them all that fish looks delicious I wish we could get that in America they can't do it right over here keep up the good work
You need to move to the Atlantic Coast
lucas mcquillan thanks for the comment! 😆
Should come down to wodonga in Victoria we have like 5 fish and chips shop where I live
Try 2 fish forest lake qld - not the best but will look forward to his review if he makes it out here
"exactly what you want from a fish and chip shop, extremely processed, but a really nice flavor" hahaahha wot
I really love prawns here in Australia but they are pretty expensive here it's $20 to $30 a kilo at the supermarkets
You need to come to the U.K. dude, I’ll take you to the best fish and chip shops😊.... Greg and Henry’s Fish & chips shop trucker tour! I’m loving the sound of the chicken salt dude👍🏻
I ate this everyday for 6 months straight, flake/chips/potato cakes with tartar sauce and lemon/vinegar ^^
That looked great! Fish and chips is one of my favorites!👍
that scollop part, there juicy. usually the juice is oil hahaha i love u greg u crack me up bro. also the fish has the skin on one side to hold it better while dipping in the batter and frying. you can ask for it to be fully skinned at my chippy but its a little more of a price. u can also ask for them to fry u a fresh fish. british fish and chips has mushy peas, i prefer backed beans or chip shop curry sauce. good tuck in mate lol.
Is Doyles in Watsons Bay still going?
More variety then English fish and chips would love to visit an aussie one
Thank you Greg that looks great ❣ We have very few good fish places here in Los Angeles ❣
Could you make a dim sim for us people who are deprived?
some interesting looking stuff there. I love British fish and chips, but theres no variety. Every shop just sells the exact same stuff, wish theyd experiment a bit
Omg that looks so nice
I think I would travel to down under just for that fish and chips. Yum.
I still remember buying 3 potatoe scollops for 20c in tyhe sventies
Good in YA Greg. You probably helped them boost profit because of your review :)
Lusofton yep. I like to support local businesses 😀
asians run most aussie and kiwi fish and chip shops, aswell as some greeks too. noticed some small differences in names:
aussie: battered sav
kiwi: hotdog
aussie: potatoe scallop
kiwi: potatoe fritter
aussie: calamari ring
kiwi: squid ring
You Can never go wrong with the good ol fish n chips
Covered them all Greg!!
Never thought they would have Savs in a FishNChip shop!
I don't konw if you remember me from other videos but, still watching ya!! On youtube of course
Whereabouts is this shop on GC mate?
Fish n chips is awesome, it’s every Aussies childhood favourite I think and even into adulthood it’s so awesome. That’s a great fish n chip shop Greg.
FitAngie and also artery clogging
Ooh a Doughnut Time.. would love a video on your take on their doughnuts :D
They say that he only uploads every 3 days
Or is it years can anybody tell me?
Awesome parking by that Mitsubishi lol
Hi greg yes i have been to this shop it really clean and fish and chips area yum i love potatoe scallops batter sav spring rolls best ever. Also the batter is thin not thick mazz 😀
