I live in a packed neighborhood in Denver. Every morning, I take a walk though the alleys. Once I found a strat and some Chinese headless bass. People get kicked out 🤷♂️
So listen to this...I'm cleaning out my garage...must be years since I last did-maybe 1987..anyway I get all my stuff out of the garage which I put out front near the curb just so I can sweep up all the dust on the garage floor. By the time I get done with that it must have been close to 11pm. Long day so I figure I'll bring back my stuff from the curb in the morning-especially my 1987 Peavey Bandit 65 Solo Series Amp. I figure the Amp is safe "cause only some Average Joe guitarist out for a predawn walk through the neighborhood would want it!" I figure what are the odds? LOL-sorry couldn't resist! Great find, "AJ". And a Foot Switch too? Congrats, Brother. You did good.
@@AJgeartalk AJ - You outta check out Tom Peterson's UA-cam channel, if you haven't already. Tom Peterson Refuse Reuse. The guy is amazing and talented. Finds garbage all around. Dumpsters. Flea Market cheapos. Garage sales. Spends almost nothing on all kinds of stuff... and builds something amazing out of it. He found an old vintage suitcase in the neighborhood garbage... built an amp out of it. Chopped a garbage Strat in half. Chopped a garbage Les Paul Jr in half. Stuck them together, and built a KILLER Double-Neck guitar out of that. Ripped up an old blazer from the 70s. Nasty thing... but then used the material to cover an amp. Now it looks vintage AMAZING. Looks 40s or early 50s. So cool. Check him out.
Ah, memories! The Bandit was my first amp when I was a bass player in my high school band. Upstate NY...seemingly a lifetime ago... It was built like a tank. Great find!
Great find. It sounds good, a keeper. A friend gave me a 30 yr old Crate 60 watt solid state with real spring reverb. It sounded horrible. I thought maybe the speaker was shot. The amp was a basket case. Rotted cracked and missing r tank mounts. I took the entire amp apart and cleaned out 30 yrs of dust, fixed replaced mounts and it's killer. It took me 3 days to complete but we'll worth it.
Wow! Man you got lucky this morning, Brother! That's what I call a great walk! Love that Bandit, and those were good amps. Solid with some power. I'd love to have that thing. The Music Man still looks great on you, and solid job on Fly By Night. Keep on Rockin' Buddy!
You, sir, are one lucky man. I had the Bandit’s big brother, the Renoun. It had 160 watts, 2 12s and weighed a ton. It is probably played as clean as any Fender made. The distortion left a lot to be desired, but match it up to a tube screamer and you had a kickass amp. I played in a wedding band for 10 years in the 80s. (Don’t laugh, we got free drinks, didn’t need to rent a van or roadies for our gear!). That Peavey never let me down. I made 2 mods to it, put 4 casters under it and got the Fender stainless steel side supports that let you lean the amp backwards at an angle. I sometimes wish I still had it, gave it to my grandson who has been playing for 15 years. He still jobs with it. When I first got it I took a lot of heat from amp snobs who told me to get a real amp, Fender, Marshall etc. Looking back I had no regrets, so hang on to your Bandit, it should last you a lifetime. Great story and I’m an avid subscriber.
Best thing to do is to not leave it plugged in just in case. At least until you have run it awhile. No smoke and no smell too? Would be good to check the current draw to insure their aren’t hidden shorts or over current problems. But those things were rugged and dependable, a great find!
Luckily, those rusty straps are very easy to replace if you can find replacements-look around, and you might just find them, as I did for my old Silverface Fender Bassman 100. But oh my GOODNESS, you just got hold of a GEM!!!!!! The Peavey Bandit is legendary, and for good reason. If you haven’t come across them already, have a look at some of the videos by the UA-cam channel called “intheblues” on the Peavey Bandit! Those are some of the best analog solid state amps ever made, in my opinion-very reliable, and very easy to work on and repair compared to a digital modeling amp like the Boss Katana, the Line 6 Catalyst, or the Fender Mustang series. With tubes of virtually all kinds being sooooo expensive and hard to find due to recent events in the world, I got a Peavey solid state amp myself recently. I’d much rather have a good analog solid state amp like a Peavey Bandit than a digital modeling amp any day.
I'd have grabbed it also, even if it didn't work. I'd would have tried to repair it. Likely a schematic is on line somewhere. If it wasn't stored in a humid space, the speaker cone should be good. Give it a look.
You never did say how much you paid for that. I used Peavey amps for a lot of years. I had one that was the VTX Classic, with a tube power section and solid state preamp, and it had a wonderful sound. Used a Bandit often as well...those were solid state. They made Scorpion and Black Widow speakers, along with standard Eminence types. Scorpion were guitar only, Black Widow were PA, bass, or guitar, depending on what you needed. If you ever find an amp called a Peavey Duel, jump on it....it was pure tube and probably the best amp they ever made...100 watt dual 12 inch, as good as a Fender Twin, much cheaper, and heavier than a cow..
@@AJgeartalk yes I watched the entire video. I figured you "found" it at a garage sale. It's not INSANELY valuable, but it's definitely worth $100 or more.

Tank indeed! Got a hernia moving this one. 😂
Nice find ! I had one of those back in the day and it did the job well. Great practice amp.

Thanks Kconway24! Always love the "backstory's" regarding this amp. Wish more of my walks turn out to be this fortuitous! Be well.

Excellent suggestion Harry! Does sound great, but not at the risk of "Burning Down The House"! I'll leave that to David Byrne... 😂
Score! If you're not familiar with those era peavey's they sound great and are built like a tank. I'm sure you'll like it.
David- you're not kidding about the "tank" comment. Nearly broke my back carrying this thing. 🤣

Only difference is Mike- you're handy, i'm not! 😂 Fortunately-it works.
That's a lucky find. With a little TLC you can bring that amp back to a newish condition. DO NOT SELL THAT AMP.
