    First 'Real' amp I ever owned. For sheer joy of metal chug... nothings come close to it since.

    Been looking at a Peavey and was a bit confused about the blue stripe, red stripe etc, so I found your video really enlightening and will help me make my decision. Thank you

    Good old Bandit. I used one as a spare on the road for years and half the time it sounded better than my finicky boutique stuff that would break down just by looking at it wrong while the Peavey took all the abuse and spilled draft beer I could throw at it.

    2000 Rage 158 I got at Goodwill for $25 sounds so good. I’m currently looking for a Bandit 112 Red Stripe.

    Still got the Silver Stripe Meridian MS 39301 USA. Clean channel only and that T. Dynamics about 60% Vol up 7+ Marshall vintage sound ... kinda. Other section thing is OK but Pre Post fiddling can be nice.

    Thank You danlopez2012,that was an excellent historical account,of an amp I've been trying to gain knowledge about. I've got the Am.Made Bandit 112 w/Sheffield 1230,meridian miss. labeling on every thing,and by your info seems to be dated to the 2000/2004 there-abouts.and I am grateful you took the time to highlight the Amp.giving all the pertinent info of origin!Everything works on it Nicely,and I'm pleased to get the knowledge to back t up! Great info, cleared up some of the mud I had in my knowledge of these classic amps.
    Something I can’t seem to find any info on is the all-tube Bandit. One of my buddies had one in the late 80s, he still has the chassis but the cabinet is gone. Anyone know the skinny on those?

  • @rdrake316
    @rdrake316 6 років тому +1

    The zenith of Peavey came in around 1994/95 with the Classic series heads and the Bandit silver.

    I have a red stripe made in usa w/sheffield but it has the pointy logo, don't know what that really means but it sounds great and I like is as well as most of my tube amps.

    I had a late 80s bandit with the scorpion speaker in it, saw one in a pawn shop not long ago and almost bought it. I used Real Tube overdrive with it. People always asked me how i got such a little amp to sound so big.

    I just bought one of the newest models of the bandit and it sounds great! i have a question that maybe someone can help me with.as we all know that this amp doesnt come with a footswitch. this amp has a boost on it also which im sure everyone knows.which foot switch do i buy that will change channels,turn effects on/off and also kick the boost in? is this a possible option that this amp offers or not? thanks for the video and your help.

    Absolutely fantastic video!
    I have a weird model then, it's a red stripe, looks exactly like the last picture except it doesn't have the block logo it has the pointy one, it does say "designed and made in the USA" though, and does have the Sheffield speaker. I just bought it for a more mobile amp compared to my JCM 800 or my Carvin X50B half stack.
    Again absolutely great helpful video!

    • @mikejohns3104
      @mikejohns3104 3 роки тому +1

      I think they got that one backwards. According to my observations, the block logo is almost always Chinese. Whereas the pointy logo is always US made when referring to red stripe variants.

    Lots of good information. Peavey's are abundant where I live. Northern Alabama, lots of bands on the road used Peavey because of their Reliability not there tone.

    • @danlopez2012
      @danlopez2012  7 років тому +2

      Nope, don't own one. Easy way I've found to calm down a dirty clean channel it to mess with the preamp tubes. Get a 12AT7, a 12AU7 and or, find some 12AX7(A)'s The A's are the lowest gain rated, on tubes with the 12AX7(A,B,C) designation.

      Play it, thats the best I can tell ya... I found some sound great no matter what and some... not so much... But old Peavey's are usually built like tanks so... Mileage may vary

    Peavey amps im sorry to say are not made very well anymore and that's my key point the quality has gone downhill since they moved mass production to china for example i had a peavey vypyr 75 watt amp and it kept cutting off in the middle of gigs,the final straw came when one day it shorted out and nearly burnt my home down so i got rif of that rubbish, the old peavey amps are very good i had a 100watt peavey combo amp cant remember the name but it was made in the 90s in the USA so reliable and a great sounding amp for Punk Rock music as the gain channel was insane lol sadly a tube or something went bang and that was the end of it but that happened in 2014 and the amp was built in the 90,s so much more reliable than chinese junk.

      Thats a legitimate question. I grabbed that from, as I mentioned, the peavey forum... I know they make 212 models of their amps, like the Reknown and others.. There weren't any 212 listed in the post though. I'm quite partial to 2x12 myself ;)
