Hartley Peavey is a HUGE SS amp fan! Me too... I've been designing in SS exclusively since 1980! People have been frightened to death by the cheapy practise Far Eastern amps... but there are some excellent SS amps if you really go looking. Some used by Eric Clapton even. He used two SESSION 'Rockette:30s' on this August album which produced his #3 chart hit! Most of the Eurythmics hits were using Sessionette:75 amps. Same for many, many chart artists. The trust their ears! :)
Great job! They are good amps, the older ones that is. I had a 1985 Bandit 65 for several years. Never a issue and still working to this day. I would play a gig with one and be just fine, they take pedals well, and unbelievably loud for their size. Great playing Cody, real Country.
Thank you!! Yeah, that's what blows me away about this Bandit 65. Other than the tone, the fact that this amp sat in storage for years without being played, and just fired right up with zero issues. Unreal!
Tubes... it's a sound. Solid state... it's a sound. Rock n roll (and country music) evolves and therefore introducing new sounds to that pushes the evolution. If you don't like a sound from a given amp you can always eq it to something that sounds good to your ears. I have done that many more times on tube amps over solid state amps. I don't like mud. I don't like having no dynamics I like to tailor to the room I'm playing in. For that reason all amps are equal opportunity for me
These old peaveys kick ass! I have a few for various reasons but mainly gig with a studio pro 40 with a JBL E-120 installed. It’s got a massive sound especially after the JBL swap
I have the same amp, early 80's model. Mine quit working last year, not entirely sure whats wrong with it. If i had to guess maybe the power transformer. They are great amps, I loved mine and was sad when it quit working. I may just have to break down and have it repaired. Great little demo video of this excellent Peavey amp!
Thank you! And yes, I'd definitely get it fixed -- although, you might wind up being able to find a used one for sale for less than it would cost to repair your current one. Haha.
Peavey Bandits were a rock solid amp and I know a session musician here in Ireland that still uses a Bandit for his pedal steel/telecaster and man it still delivers that classic sound. Look at any live recordings of Jerry Reed and see he uses Peavey Amps. Their circuitry was simple and reliable but if it ever did go wrong, components were easily sourced and dissembly was quick and painless. I know because I worked in an guitar shop for years. Then they moved production to China and reliability was rubbish.
Yeah! Videos of Jerry Reed were what finally made me want to go check this amp out. Absolutely killer sound with a tele, and I have seen so many steel players using them that I have to imagine they’re happy with the amps as well!
I have a Bandit 65 from the early 80s that a bought from an old showband player. It really gets the job done and sometimes I prefer it to my 68 Deluxe. Herecy!!!!lol
I use a Peavey 1x15 cab, 4 Ohm with Black Widow speaker. Blackface Bassman sounds great through it. I have a bandmate's Peavey Backstage Chorus and i'm not that wild about it, but it is built to last. I think i'm a die hard blackface Fender guy. I use 2 Peavey main speakers (DTH-S2) and pa head (xr-8300). They are killer, loud and clear, good effects, built well. I play a Traynor Reverb Mate 40 at most gigs and it is pretty awesome.
Someone was selling one of these for $25 on Marketplace. I've been blown away by how good it sounds. Really great playing, too. Which channel were you using?
I have a Bandit and a Special.. The overdrive channel is not very great.. The Banit might be decent clean but the Special blows it away easy... Much more powerful, you can really feel it.. I ran a line out of a little Vox amp that I have into to special power amp in and it's killer.. I like the clean channel on the Special but it has some issues.. Broken off pots .. So running a different amp into it as a pre-amp is actually really getting the most out of it. I might even try to marry them together one day.. If you have an old peavey, try running another amp into the power amp in.. You are using a pre-amp from one to run itno the other.. Not ideal for giging but great for sitting around and playing..
@@CodyJungGuitar also, if an amp has certain issues, like earlier my little vox valvetronix was having an issue with the speaker or something, I said ok.. Let me try this is the Special... It worked fine.. It was either the speaker or power amp section of the vox. Running it as a pre-amp in to the Peavey, it sounded fine.. Sounds real good, a little modeling amp with one 12ax7, I think in it.. Has settings for Blackface, tweed and other amps.. Effects, all though I don't like the button you gotta push for timing for modulation and delay, reverb, ect.. Like the new fender champion, stupid if you ask me but cheap.. Makes them a little cheaper, I suppose and you can't have it too nice because then you won't get a higher end model.. Essentially, a lot of combo amp can be used like that. .. I might just cut the vox down to size without the speaker if I narrow it down to that being a problem.. I only like that small speaker for quieter practice.. Earlier in the morning maybe.. I almost want to attach it the the Peavey permanently.. Like a head.. But that amp is already heavy.. Heavier than a regular bandit.. So if anything, maybe make it a head.. As a project, I think it would be neat to put several amps together in one combo.. You could solder everything but not necessarily a must because you can switch stuff around with small cords.. Maybe switches even..Just fun on a budget is all.. Never probably get any profit but something to play with.. But take any great sounding small amp with a line out and run it in a Peavey and you will likely be impressed... All the controls will be on the small amp..Or pre-amp. Doesn't have to be a small amp.. Any amp. Although I say use caution here.. If you have a really valuable amp, I night be nervous about trying it but it should all be the same.. The line out on the back of my Vox is labeled Phone/Line, so I might guess even a headphone jack might work . But main thing is Pre-amp out to power amp in.. Or line to power amp in... So it is using the secondary only as a power amp.. Power needs to be on but no control over that one like I say. The preamp is the control module... Sorry I repeated myself but I wanted to make it clear...
So sorry, I have no clue how I missed this before! This is some really great info. It really sounds like you know your stuff when it comes to these old Peavey amps.
Man. I am primarily a metal player. That opening chicken picking section was beautiful.
Amazing playing
Ah, thanks so much! Metal is cool as well!!
Love this!!! Big Peavey fans over here. Cheers from L.A.!!
Awesome!! Thank you. Definitely a less-discussed amp nowadays, but a killer for sure!
Still have mine from HS. Still an awesome amp.
That would have been an awesome amp to have in high school!
97% of the world's top scientists agree: The Bandit 65 is one of the greatest amps ever made.

In the far east's defence, they did give us Roland and boss lol
@@the-np4mrYamaha put out a series of solid state amps in the late 70s that were designed by Paul Rivera to compete with the roland jazz chorus

My Dad had the same amp and it, too, was in the family longer than I was. I miss my Dad, and I miss that amp.

Oh great, now they will up in value. Nice playing and sounds great. I have a Peavey but it's a Bravo tube amp.
Haha, I think it's a safe bet that with my channel covering the amp, they will either stay the same price or depreciate. I'm here to do my part!
If the Peavey Special 130 was good enough for Jerry Reed then the answer is YES
I'm holding out on getting the special 130 because of the midshift knob and transformer in those. I hope they can do bedroom volume too
Wow you sound fantastic. I can't play this style very much but I like to hear it. have fun. Bye for now

Opening jam sounded like a Dukes of Hazzard chase scene. Nice.
Haha, I’ll take that as a compliment!
