  • The BYD Dolphin is a fantastic car, but how does it compare to the Atto 3. Especially for Australian consumers.

    Test drives were never an issue at BYD Castle Hill. We actually drove one twice. Great people. We now have had the Atto 3 for 5 months, and it is by far the best car we have ever had. Super high quality in fit, finish, ride & comfort.

    Thankyou, we didnt have any troubles getting rest drives, BYD actually lent us an Atto for half a day.
    In our family we now have two EVs, a Tesla M3 ($58K) and an Atto3 ($47K). Both in their own ways very good cars, but the Tesla is starting to develop rattles which after just 12 months is a bit disappointing.
    In terms of range they are very similar, but on long trips at highway speeds the M3 goes about 10% further and of course can supercharge.
    In terms of ride, comfort, ergonomics and appointments, the Atto 3 runs rings around the M3.
    Around town the Atto is very much my preferred drive and overall for my purposes at least, it represents much better value.
    We will likely trade the Tesla, possibly for another Atto or perhaps the Dolphin.

    If you are comparing a blade battery powered car against another blade battery car (as you are doing here) this point doesn't matter, but if you are making a comparison with a blade battery car and Li ternery Battery car and mileage and life expectancy of that battery and the real mileage you get, the blade battery is by far the better battery/car. For example the blade battery can be charged from empty/near empty all the way too full without battery degradation, so the mileage talked about is the mileage you get ,but with Li batteries they tell you on one hand " this car has ( what ever car that is )a say 350 km range ,but then on another hand they will tell you " for the sake of the battery long life and power out put you shouldn't let the battery dope below 20% and that you shouldn't charge past 80% . Now the last time i went to school that's a dope in range of 40 % ,but hay if you on sale your cars in every say 2 years that's going to be someone else's problem ( if this happens the second hand prices for EVs will plummet so it will be your problem after all )

    So in the end the pricing was quite a bit higher for Dolphin than expected.

    I'm very curious as to the pricing of the Dolphin in AUS. It's priced at 50k here in NZD which is too close to the Atto which is too close to the M3.

    You don't need to place an order to test drive, not anymore at least not in Tasmania as I did a 2hr test drive and they had no issue me doing another one if I needed to which I may.

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  Рік тому

      That's great. I hope they allow everyone to do a regular test drive. Over the years, driving the Nissan Leaf or a Mini EV, i've been chucked the keys to them for the day or weekend. I think at the very least they should be happy to chuck you the keys for an hour or 3.

    • @alexfekken7599
      @alexfekken7599 Рік тому

      Confirming that for Brisbane (Indooroopilly) as well: I did an Atto test drive without placing an order a couple of weeks ago. I even told them I was waiting for the Dolpin and would probably prefer that; but no issues (apart from a several week waiting list) with getting the test drive.

      @@alexfekken7599 You can also hire the Atto 3 from SixT (Brisbane Airport) for about $90 a day including insurance. But I guess if you can book a test drive for free then that's a better alternative.

    And where os the conclusion?

  • @james_l4337
    @james_l4337 Рік тому

    LFP battery do create smoke if hot enough will create fire however there's lot more time before this happens,
    Smoke is very likely
    Fire will depends on how hot battery gets and the weather is it summer very hot day
    Good is that water hosing can stop fire & cool LFP short circuit battery
    Ternary battery is dangerous in heavy accident when internal short circuit immediately it will burn its chemistry will create continuous oxygen which makes fire non stop extremely hot
    It will almost be impossible in majority situation to put out

    Tssla car and BYD car are all made in China, what is the different for the quality?

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  Рік тому

      Tesla vehicles made in China are still of that high quality that you would hope for in a Tesla. Compared to a BYD, having had a look at Byd vehicles up close, and having stared at lots of small things, and having seen them age, it isn't obvious that there is a quality difference. I would imagine that the Tesla would have a higher level of quality in the electrical systems, and in some of the more complex areas that were born from ingenuity. But still, on the face of it, they are certainly comparable. I was thinking to make a difference on this in the future actually. I do think that Tesla have an edge in this department, but then, they do cost more money.

    I just bought a dolphin over a vw id3 sold at exactly the same price point…. An absurd choice when id3 dropped 40%price. Dolphin is a better product.

      RWD does feel a lot better doesn't it. A bit more fun driving on snow and ice too when I lived in Norway. But still fine.

    Who would have thought anyone would want a car made in China. Hopefully they are safe

    • @TheChargeShow
      @TheChargeShow  Рік тому +4

      Hey mate, they are definitely safe vehicle. My first job years ago was a vehicle painter, and repair technician at Volkswagen. I've had a very deep look around and it really is made to a similar standard. I would say it comparable to a modern safe car, such as a Jeep, Fiat or something like that. Maybe not the same as a Toyota, or Honda. But I don't have that concern any more. There is strong debate on how the electronics will fair the test through time, and the quality of the metalwork and paintwork. Particularly the Zinc coating at the factory has been discussed a lot lately. But they are a nice car for sure. Toyota now use the BYD electronic platform in their EV's that they have for sale now. But there is indication they will be producing their own stuff in the future. Hope this helped.

      I can't imagine why where it is made makes any difference, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Thailand, India, germany all the same
