I bought one of the first Springs sold in Romania in 2021, and after government subsidies I paid the ridiculous price of 8.000 euros. After 18 moths I must say it's worth every cent I paid for this car. We kept a gasoline car for longer trips, and in 18 months we used it just 2 times in vacation. As a day to day car, it's great for city ride and on a 150 km radius around the city. I'm charging it once a week for 4-5 hours with the 16 A mobile charger that came with the car (the price of household electricity is around 15 eurocents in Romania, and the average consumption is under 11kWh/100km). I already saved thousands of euros just from fuel cost savings.

If they had launched this in the UK in 2019, it might have been interesting. Now it is dated and the lack of safety tech is not ok

The 40kWh Zoe had a 4*. But to cut costs on the 52kWh, Renault removed the side impact airbags. Resulting in a high likelihood that driver and or passengers, would die in a 30mph side impact. So get T-boned or hit a road sign or tree side on in the 40kWh and you could survive. Do the same in the 52kWh and you’d be runny jam. And worse still, they didn’t tell prospective buyers about the change. So people were/had put in orders for 4* Euro NCAP car and got a 0* car instead. Heck. The founder and head of the Renault Zoe Owners Club RZOC, was so angered by Renault’s actions. That he sold his, the first to be imported into the UK.

I have noticed many of what were considered cheap brands 20 years ago, now make decent cars. They have learnt, adapted and improved. The BEV platform has taken away a lot of what made the cars feel bad, so all of our legacy car makers need to raise their game to compete. A small cheap BEV as a second car will be very welcome.

Dacia Spring is a brilliant second car . Family runabout etc. We have been waiting for this to arrive in the UK. £17,000 is a full £10,000 cheaper than the cheapest MG BEV. Although the 44 bhp is very low it will probably align very well against the 1.0 ltr 3 cylinder ICE cars of a similar price. One of the cheapest ICE cars, the Hyundai i10 is just over £15,000
