I think this championship was the breaker for Gabby Douglas...where she said she decided to give up(in her movie). It took the intervention of those around her to help her get her confidence back, and she never looked back since. Some people criticize her for whatever reason they think they may have...you may call her 'inconsistent' or what not. A gymnast who wasn't doing so well before and nearly called it quits, but found a way to pick herself up, psyche herself up enough, and change her whole gymnastics deserves respect. Where were your 'consistent' favourites on the day they were expected to bring it? Love her or hate her, her name has gone into history, her medals are hers...what is your own achievement???
Tim D says of Rebecca Bross, “she just looks tired to me, she looks overworked”. That’s exactly what she was because that’s what Velari Liukin did to her. Trying to make her an elite AA gymnast or push her to learn skills she clearly wasn’t able to do just to make the olympics in 2012. That’s why she failed. Every time I look at her all i see is unhappy. She like Riley McCusker looked the same. Good thing Riley had the chance to switch coaches and is now happier. We’ll see at the 21 trials if that’s made a difference. I believe it will.
He wasn't teaching her new skills, he was just trying to get her old skills back. Not saying he went about it the right way, but he wasn't adding anything significant in any Rebecca routine here.
It's socially nice how they support each other with a hug. Fascinating that this is the first Visa's that Jordyn has competed in. I like the soundtrack that Alicia went with for her floor. Mckayla is indeed a beauty. Alexandra seems to have done perfect on her floor. I agree too that Jordyn floor was nicely done. I feel bad for Rebecca having three major errors on beam that in which she didn't get a good enough score. Alexandra did a perfect vault.
That's what I'll never understand. Any physical therapist or orthopedic surgeon had to know back then that her internal hip rotation and inward knees could not allow her to land skills safely. In Europe where they scout for talent in kindergarten and elementary schools, they'd have taken one look at her and refused her for gymnastics. But instead, her parents were willing to pay the fees and the coaches were more than able to cash in, her pain be damned. What I see in this meet (I'm a former gymnast and retired kinesiologist) is that at that age the body grows and shifts all the time, her natural physiology was already rebelling against the rigors of the alignment requirements for gymnastics. The fact that she eventually blew out her kneecap does not surprise me in the least. The fact that she was encouraged to continue afterwards enrages me more than I can tell. I feel so bad for her.
@@elishajean2670 Wieber didn't have a bad experience with Geddert. Her parents were actively involved in making sure she was treated appropriately and not overworked, and she was his star, so she was treated well. I think Wieber has very conflicted feelings about him, and that's perfectly okay.
Looking back on this, it makes you wonder if maybe some of the athletes' heads weren't in the game and they made so many mistakes because they had just been abused by Nassar and they couldn't shake it enough to perform well.
Watching this back then, I was thinking, "What In The World is going on?" Watching it nearly 14 years later, with my 7 year-old daughter who wants to pursue elite gymnastics, it dawned on me: Yes, absolutely, Nassar would have been actively abusing the girls at this time. But this is also the year (2011)😊 that GEDDERT took over as the Head Women's Coach for USA. I can only imagine the training atmosphere with him looking over each of their shoulders. So many stories (I would think all true) of him yelling at/hurting/ignoring injuries of his club gymnasts - he would undoubtedly have been the same with the National Team girls. Which probably only aided Nassar's agenda in seeming like the "nice guy" to them. Sickening ! I am so glad that (in some ways) the sport has become much healthier: emotionally and physically. But I do admit, knowing the environment they were all going through at the time makes me nervous about my baby girl pursuing it.
Poor Gabby. She looked so defeated, you could see it in her face. So proud that she was able to go out to the Olympics a year later and take the gold tho!
It a shame Alicia got injured. Her floor routine was her best choreographed ever. And her beam was improved and sturdier than ever. She could have made the Olympics in 2012 and medaled on vault, beam, possibly floor.
I know this is years late but the music playing while Chellsie is preparing for her vault around 1:18:00 is from the Avatar score! It took me a sec to realize what it was from but I think it's specifically the piece called "Becoming one of the people". Such a stunning piece of music!
I love watching these old meets it brings back so many memories of when I was in the gym, I miss it so much!!! Hey maybe I can comeback like Chelsea Memmel did..🤔🤔😂😂🤔🤔😳😳
I wz just thinking...what if just once...at the most intense moment...trying to focus on the beam...when the whole place goes quiet...you hear that scream..."COME ON (insert name) YOU GOT IT!! COME ON!" 👏🏻 immediately (insert name) loses it for just 3seconds & SNAPS...whips her head around & screams back..."SHUT UP! I'M TRYING TO FOCUS!!" And proceeds to do a flawless routine👏🏻 I pictured it in my mind's eye & its HILAAARIOUS🤣🤣
A girl at my gym tore her ACL just like Shawn Johnson, she was out for the whole season. Finally she got cleared, but 2 months (or so) later, she tore her ACL again😬
It's good that Chellise made a come back to competing in gymnastics, for this Visa Championships. Along with two of her 2008 Olympic gymnastic teammates, Shawn and Alicia. Plus non Olympic teammates: Jordyn, Rebecca, Mckayla Alexandra. They're all my favorite. In addition, I loved how they did on their routines (for on both day 1 and day 2). Although if they had lost a points due to an errors, an injury on their routine, or didn't do four routines, at this Visa Championships.
I was really rooting for Alicia in her comeback, but her not doing bars (and historically being weak on bars) just killed her. There were way too many strong all around gymnasts in this quad and if there were gonna be any non-all-around specialists for USA at the Olympics the year following this they needed to be a strong bar worker. And even that didn't happen, they took 5 all-around gymnasts. And the final nail in the coffin was when Alicia got injured later this year and had to go down to just vault and beam and took out floor. Alicia in 2012 was no longer a vaulting specialist because the USA had advanced in vaulting just just much. Her main vault was valued at a 6.3 and in 2004 and 2008 that helped the USA, in 2012 it would have actually HURT the USA as the 5 female gymnasts they took were ALL capable of the 6.5 valued amanar vault. Though Kyla started doing just the double twist starting at the 2012 national championships and made the team mostly through her bars and beam BUT she was capable of the 2.5 amanar. I mean, it was truly amazing when you think about it how strong USA was on vault in this quad. So for Alicia, actually bringing down the difficulty level for his "best event", frankly, it doomed her chances for 2012. I unfortunatly felt the same for Shawn Johnson too. The only 1 of the 3 veterans making the comeback (well 4 if you count Nastia, who I think had a shot if she began her comeback in 2011 not 2012) here with a chance at the 2012 team would have been Chelsea Memmel with her strong bars and beam and being an all around gymnast (though weak at vault, but again since USA was so strong on vault she could have been in contention cause they didn't need a strong vaulter in their bar specialist for 2012). Leading up to 2012 and 2016, any junior US gymnast that dreamed of the Olympics should have put 50% of their training focus on bars. A strong bar worker just raises your chances so much of being on the US Womens Olympic Gymnastics Team! AND even though McKayla Maroney was a solid all around gymnasts, she was also the best vaulter the US had, better than Alicia. That further doomed Alicia. Absolutly no room on a 5 person team for TWO people with vault as their best event, especially if one of them isn't even an all-around gymnast.
Poor Sabrina I know how she feels. I was in that same situation when i was a swimmer when I made a mistake. I know exactly where she's coming from. I think coaches shouldn't be so hard on their athletes when they know they make a mistake it just makes them worse
"This is by the far the messiest Visa Championships I can remember watching." Well, Tim, the sport started getting messy around 2000 (even longer for the men), and when the new scoring format was implemented, the sport went from who was the best gymnast to who fell and messed up the least. I think the last healthy (ininjured) gymnast that competed was Kim Zmeskal back in 1991. Everyone is injured. Gymnastics and figure skating have gotten so boring and sloppy it's almost unwatchable. I will continue to follow this sport that I love. I've been following it since the 80s (I know it's hard for some to think the sport existed before Simone and Gabby, but it did).
One name - Vanessa Atler. I hope she haunts Tim's dreams for eternity. After the way he dismissed & belittled her, he deserves it... As does Elfie. Keeping with the spectre of VA, the very sight of Steve Rybacki smirking next to Marta makes me see red 😡😡😡
ajlove2013 myckayla for sure!!! alicia's first vault is huge but mykayla has a higher start value and she's excellent at it too. alicia's second vault though is too low compared to maroneys
So terrible that Shawn Johnson got injured Skiing. She could have made history in her 2nd and possibly 3rd Olympics. She was only 19 in 2012 & 23 in 2016. 😀 Little did these commentators know that Chellsie Memmel would make a 3rd comeback at age 32 years old in 2020-21. She performed in the Gold Over America Tour and she was beautiful. 🌹 I remember watching this live and was actually shocked at all the falls. Alicia, Shawn, Mykayla, Jordan Wieber, Gabby, Bross all had major deductions.
These commentators literally make me sick. Criticise is all they are good for. Shawn Johnson performs a world-class vault after her comeback which is already extremely hard to do yet these two could not criticise fast enough how untidy it was and that sly comment on her smile... Which is why I love BBC commentators. They are encouraging, classy and give constructive critics that are both useful and supporting. No wonder she decided to not go through her comeback.
I really felt McKayla Maroney's routines were handled very poorly! She was a great tumbler but they gave her that third pass which was a built in error. She also didn't need that first low-to-high ball skill which is a tough skill, that she didn't need, and caused her a lot of trouble as well! She fell on the skill at the trials in 2012. She also had issues with that 3rd pass on her floor routine at the trials too! These issues killed her when it came to her all around performances at the nationals and trials!
yeah i noticed that too, but she wasnt a big gymnast then so they had all there focus on shawns comback and the uprising gymnast like raisman and weiber.
I know that the vault was what hurt because. But tbh valeri shouldn't have made her do such a difficult beam dismount. It's almost never been a stick or even close to a good landing for her. Why he didn't change it to double pike or double full i don't know why. The dismount is scary. Blind landing. Etc. But why valeri didn't water it down????? I know he wants to build champions, but would it be worth having a star class athlete get injured?
More space means ppl trying to add more stuff in. You will always get ppl going out of bounds. And plenty of ppl have done those passes(including them) and stayed in bounds.
Shawn finished 3rd on bars and won beam at this camp was was left home in favor of Vega because Marta picked her because she coached her coach. Marta's secret camps should have any entire book written about them. Same thing happened to Cassie Whitcomb back in the day. She won bars and finished 3rd on floor and was left home in favor of a Marta favorite.

People mentioned he was very critical to her
I don't understand why she didn't drop that dismount on beam. Has she ever completed it? Felt really bad for her.
Rebecca's knees make me so nervous
I'm obsessed with women's gymnastics. It's the most beautiful sport out there. Like... Wow!!!
Anyone else see McKayla Maroney stick her amanar vault in the background at 22:07 ? Wish that NBC would've recorded that!
That was a warm up hence no proper coverage, but girl could vault like a beast!
We should start calling Tim Dagget "The Jinxer"
IKR!
Yea… :T
LOL
Definitely. He is the most ANNOYING AND DRAMATIC commentator EVER! 😠
he needs to be fired
Watching John Geddert after everything that surfaced about his awful, abusive coaching style and support of Nassar is sickening
Wieber loved Geddert so he can't be that bad.
@@tonywilson8645 you don't know them? you're seeing them on a screen.
He’s dead now after not turning himself in. That’s crazy. My heart continues to go out to the girls 🇺🇸🙏🏾😔
I kept thinking please stop touching her thigh
@@elishajean2670 Wieber didn't have a bad experience with Geddert. Her parents were actively involved in making sure she was treated appropriately and not overworked, and she was his star, so she was treated well. I think Wieber has very conflicted feelings about him, and that's perfectly okay.
Looking back on this, it makes you wonder if maybe some of the athletes' heads weren't in the game and they made so many mistakes because they had just been abused by Nassar and they couldn't shake it enough to perform well.
Yeah, many of them looked a little distracted
Watching this back then, I was thinking, "What In The World is going on?"
Watching it nearly 14 years later, with my 7 year-old daughter who wants to pursue elite gymnastics, it dawned on me: Yes, absolutely, Nassar would have been actively abusing the girls at this time.
I have never seen a nationals this bad, ever.
i know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kind of hard to believe they won the gold medal at the Olympics the following year. Talk about improvement!
And won World's this year in 2011.
why the only event from maroney that they didnt show was vault?? that makes no sense
Man I just fall in love with Makaylas floor especially the round off-1 1/2-round off -backhandspring-double tuck
Does anybody else love Alicia's floor even with the mistakes
YESSS! she has clean form, good artistry and good difficulty.
You think Tim will ever realize a Van Leeuwen is NOT a Khorkina?
Probablynotlol
@@kaylajones4356 He called a Kochetkova on beam a Khorkina too.
Everyone in the world basically just says shap half at this point lol
He’s wrong about a bunch of other things too lol
Wasn’t it also coined a Khorkina?
I wish so badly Rebecca did a full twisting instead of a double or just scratched vault and took a break :(
Some really wonderful music and choreo in this meet, despite the prevalent mistakes.
I love young gabby a year later she’s gold all around 👏🏽
Chellsie is a beast on beam!
A girl at my gym tore her ACL just like Shawn Johnson, she was out for the whole season. Finally she got cleared, but 2 months (or so) later, she tore her ACL again😬
She's good!!
Rebecca Bross' last tumbling pass (53:54) was right on the music!
Oops I meant 53:50
I miss Chow so much.
Jordyn’s routines
Beam 11:45
Floor 28:13
Vault 44:42
Bars 1:22:45
"he has never had a world or Olympic gymnast before"
one year later, a girl he coaches comes home with an Olypic gold medal
💚 you Jordyn
Pitu Fina well do you who won’t come home with a gold medal, you not for spelling at least
Pitu Fina Screw him! He’s a liar, a cheat and a thief. He is a disgrace to the sport and did not deserve his position, nor his power.
Awwww, baby Gabby!
27:29 Tim needs to retire. That is not a Khorkina. He needs to be replaced hate his commentary
Tim Irritates me...doesn’t keep himself in shape either
Bross has the most unique leg shape I’ve ever seen, not saying it’s ugly or bad it’s just different.
When chelsie is on vault what floor music is playing in the background???
Seems like Tim predicted what would happen to Rebecca Bross when he was talking about career-ending falls...
Memel should have been on this team 😭😭
Ally was good on her floor rotine the way she had power in her second tumbbling pas it was brilliant.
I jumped when Rebecca fell from beam! Didn't see that one coming AT ALL
Comparing gymnasts to an old tire... rude.
watching this girl play makes me feel like I can fly 😅 this performance is amazing 👏 ❤
1st roluation
2nd place Alexandra raisman
3rd place chelise Memmel
4th place Alicia sacramone
6th place Gabrielle Douglas
7th place Jordan wieber
Poor Sabrina I know how she feels. I was in that same situation when i was a swimmer when I made a mistake. I know exactly where she's coming from. I think coaches shouldn't be so hard on their athletes when they know they make a mistake it just makes them worse
I agree
Chelsie's beam performance.. What a warrior!!!!
Is it just me or did they not show McKayla Maroney's vault....?
Yes it did
One name - Vanessa Atler. I hope she haunts Tim's dreams for eternity. After the way he dismissed & belittled her, he deserves it... As does Elfie.
Keeping with the spectre of VA, the very sight of Steve Rybacki smirking next to Marta makes me see red 😡😡😡
Acho tão fofo a Chelsie com o pai dela😍😍
I think this is the only time they don’t broadcast McKayla’s vault. I’m shocked. I know it was because Jordyn was on floor but still.
Mmk..wz it really necessary to zoom in & stay on Miss Vega's face when she's trying to fight back tears?! Not cool.
thank God Gabby & Simone came along when she did, she saved this sport, and brought much needed excitement.
Black Doll that stupid swearing 🤬
It would have been cool to see alicia vs mckayla at World's on the vault. I wonder who would have won...
ajlove2013 myckayla for sure!!! alicia's first vault is huge but mykayla has a higher start value and she's excellent at it too. alicia's second vault though is too low compared to maroneys
So terrible that Shawn Johnson got injured Skiing. She could have made history in her 2nd and possibly 3rd Olympics. She was only 19 in 2012 & 23 in 2016. 😀
Little did these commentators know that Chellsie Memmel would make a 3rd comeback at age 32 years old in 2020-21. She performed in the Gold Over America Tour and she was beautiful. 🌹 I remember watching this live and was actually shocked at all the falls. Alicia, Shawn, Mykayla, Jordan Wieber, Gabby, Bross all had major deductions.
Yeah, but that’s how she met her husband Andrew so she definitely doesn’t regret it :)
That vault wasn't world class. It had a lot wrong with it. They were just pointing that out.
It’s not called a Khorkina it’s a Van Leuween 27:30
I really felt McKayla Maroney's routines were handled very poorly! She was a great tumbler but they gave her that third pass which was a built in error. She also didn't need that first low-to-high ball skill which is a tough skill, that she didn't need, and caused her a lot of trouble as well! She fell on the skill at the trials in 2012. She also had issues with that 3rd pass on her floor routine at the trials too! These issues killed her when it came to her all around performances at the nationals and trials!
If I got to chose any of these coaches to coach me I would love to have Chow and Li as coaches. 😍
What was the floor music playing while Chellsie was on vault? I know the music, but I can seem to place it.
PRACTICE FULL, STAMINA FULL, STRONG FULL, PLAYERS PLAYING BEAUTIFUL GYMNAST ........
Does anyone know WHY Bross took off so much time after the previous Worlds? She was on the podium, she was still very much in the mix.
They said it was because she had a fractured foot at worlds and needed time to recover
yeah i noticed that too, but she wasnt a big gymnast then so they had all there focus on shawns comback and the uprising gymnast like raisman and weiber.
Wow, look at nationals this year, or even 2012 and compare it with this hot mess! What was going on??
I would love to see McKayla throw a full in dm on beam
Alicia Sacramone’s floor music is from the Hunger Games!!! Wow!
They need to make the floor border 5 inches further back. Ridiculous to take away points for stepping on the white.
More space means ppl trying to add more stuff in. You will always get ppl going out of bounds. And plenty of ppl have done those passes(including them) and stayed in bounds.
Alicia's routine was so in time with the music! Even when she fell it could have almost been coreography xD
Shawn finished 3rd on bars and won beam at this camp was was left home in favor of Vega because Marta picked her because she coached her coach. Marta's secret camps should have any entire book written about them. Same thing happened to Cassie Whitcomb back in the day. She won bars and finished 3rd on floor and was left home in favor of a Marta favorite.
still asking myself why almost everything had gone so wrong here, never ever was a championship worse than this
because they were being abused
@@elishajean2670 Yeah around this time, a lot of the gymnast here were sadly. Either by that monster, their coaches training, or both smh
I love ally raismen
Lisette levario
2nd roluation
2nd place Alexandra raisman
2nd place Shawn Johnson
2nd place Alicia sacramone
2nd place Anna li
2nd place Jordan wieber
2nd place Mackenzie caquatto
3rd place chelise memmel bridgette caquatto
5th place Rebecca bross
6th place Sabrina vega
Why weren’t they showing scores ?
what’s Alicia’s floor music
32:50
"I'm just happy to be getting back to competition."
When you know that the next day of competition she disappears again... :l
What was Gabby Douglas' score for floor?
One hell of a triple full mount from Alicia, dang. And the height on that Arabian! Phew!
1:33:04 wow Aly was like get away person
Maroney got second AA in this competition beating aly
