You're right and you know Aly Raisman said that when she went back she had to train for a whole year just to condition before she even did a routine completely it's amazing the shape their bodies are in but it takes a lot of work I could never ever do anything like that :-)

They do have her as a lock for the team pretty early on though. And in 2010 and especially 2011 they do make a point that she's a rock other than on bars. The last year? Two years? Tim always points out that he didn't think one of her floor passes was even possible. Aly was always super consistent and serious, and Marta Karolyi always liked her, so they were always very favorable to her. Her bars routine often kept her out of medal contention (she placed fourth a lot, or second, at American Cups), so she tended to lose coverage to the top gymnast for the US, whether that was Rebecca Bross or Bridget Sloan, and whomever was "the best in the world." If the 2008 Olympians hadn't mounted comebacks en masse she might have gotten more coverage at national events, but they took up a lot of the time. Aly also had to contend with her coverage being somewhat taken up with discussions of Alicia Sacramone, because of their shared gym and strengths. It didn't help that Aly's original senior floor routine was a slightly modified version of Alicia's. I think she would have gotten more focus if her bars routine made it so that she actually had a chance to challenge for higher spots, if she hadn't been considered a lock for the team so early (because then there would have been tension about her making it), or if there had been fewer comeback olympians. But there was never any drama or tension about her, no injuries, just good, clean gymnastics. Her coverage time probably suffered because she was too normal. Her quality at non-bars events was always lauded, she just didn't get a ton of quantity outside of her performance time. She wasn't like Nastia, Alicia, or Rebecca, who they liked to cut to.
McKayla is just so captivating to watch. I love listening to commentators talk about her and hearing them be in much awe of her as I am. I miss her so much
I do believe Nastia's inability to complete her bar routine was due to fatigue and a lack of practicing complete routines and having enough stamina to get through one in competition. Not all of the girls suffer from this problem, as a matter of fact, most elite gymnasts do not have this issue due to their extreme training regimen. In this instance, however, I just don't think Nastia gave herself enough time to prepare for the meets leading up to London.
The biggest issue with Nastia is she peaked at the Olympics. Argue all you want but this is the truth. She knew she did but hoped she could make a comeback anyway.
+Ed Clench I don't think that they should've come back. They had their time and they got the glory. It wouldn't be fair to the 2013 girls or to the talented rising seniors like Lauren Hernandez, Norah Flatley, Ragan Smith, and Jazmyn Foberg.
+Sarah Baldwin They are still having their time, though. As long as they continue to perform at such a high level, they are still going to be stars; the USA is one of the few countries that almost never has repeat female gymnasts. China, Russia, Great Britain, etc all have gymnasts competing in multiple Olympics, not the same team each time obviously but maybe one or two who kept at it and are back again and I don't think there should be anything wrong with that. Both Aly and Gabby are phenomenal gymnasts and, if they continue to be, will continue to be stars and compete at high levels. It isn't based on popularity, it's based on skill and if the newer gymnasts are able to post better scores they will be picked but if Aly and Gabby post higher scores then they will be picked and it shouldn't be about "they got the glory" and they need to make room for others, it should be about who's the most talented and can help the team the most.
I cringe SO hard every time I see Jordyn’s landing on her vault. I know at the time, it sucked not making it to the all around final in London, but dang... if anything, I’m just glad that vault landing at this championships didn’t take her out of the running to be on the Olympic team period!
Part of the problem is that she has knock knees (when she stands with feet apart, her knees still touch), which probably gives her a tendency for supination. I'm surprised they didn't get a physical therapist or something on that immediately.
99.99999% sure she did it intentionally. Pause in one of her handstands and follow the shape of her legs and unsickle her feet and you'll see there'd be at least a 3 inch gap cuz of the shape of her legs. If she didn't sickle then people and more importantly the judges would have seen and complained/deducted for her legs never appearing together.🤦♂️ There's a lot of gymnasts out there that lack body awareness in the aesthetic department but watching Rebecca's gymnastics it's clear she was far from one of them, it was a choice and a really smart choice on her part to deal with a difficult leg structure and looks much better and cleaner than the alternative. Yeah it'd be great if she didn't have knocked knees and didn't have to sickle to make her legs appear together but i only see people talk about her feet and not her legs constantly being 3-4 inches apart so she made the right decision. I don't mean to sound aggressive I just always saw her as a beautiful and detail oriented gymnast and get frustrated when people hold her sickled feet against her! It was a smart choice and saved her a lot of deductions and made the overall line of her legs appear together when swinging. I know this comment is annoying and when I first noticed the sickle it hurt my soul as a dancer but when I paused and took a look at her leg structure I realized it was a calculated choice and a very smart one and was blown away that she could disguise such knocked knees and save her line. #rebeccassickledfeetwassmartaf

IMO Ragan didn’t deserve an alternate position because yeah she’s great on beam, but there are already 4 people on the team who are great on beam and don’t need another. I always wonder why the gymnasts are able to place their feet perfectly for the dismount and not split the beam, but in stationary skills it's hard to land perfectly!
It’s crazy that Tim and Elfe predicted Gabby would only really be needed on bars and she went on to be the only one to do all four events in the team final
How gorgeous is Gabby Douglas' leotard? Seriously, i keep staring at it! And i LOVE Nastia's pink gear! Pink is my favorite colour, and I just ADORE all her pink leo's!!💖🖤💖🖤
Yes if she just made a couple tweeks and stayed fully healthy she could have been a world and Olympic medalist on floor for sure. She never maximized her full potential on that event like she did on vault.
Its funny... Nastia kept saying this comeback was ‘all about helping the team’ but when Gabby did her bars routine Nastia looked genuinely worried. This was all about remaining relevant for Nastia and getting that bars gold.
Really Elfi? I’ll NEVER EVER believe that Marta told Chow to limit Gabby’s beam numbers in workouts. I’m sure that was a misinterpretation. Karolyi’s are famous for overtraining and doing numbers in practice. Especially beam. They’re famous for it.
I've never understood why Dagget always insists that Mckayla's vault is perfect. There is a slight pike of the hips, a leg separation on the pre-flight... but it is an absolutely incredible amanar!
It’s weird to think that if mckayla didn’t do a second vault then she would’ve been replaced on the London team by someone like Elizabeth who could help in TF on vault too.
She was always more of a front tumbler. Maybe she just couldn’t set right backwards. Speaking for myself, I had an Arabian before I had a double back, because the set just came naturally to me, while setting backwards was such a pain to learn. Took me almost my whole gymnastics career and four coaches to fix my set backwards and I think you just don’t have that time as an elite athlete
Am I the only one noticing they only have 4 names on the board when Tim stops them at 46:09 saying they've got 5? Cause it's been bugging me for ages...
THey are on UA-cam. Also, the team finals are on you tube, and so is the all around finals. I have been following US Championships, and Worlds, and Olympics all summer.
If mckayla Maroney would get rid of that 3rd tumbling pass and put a double arabian instead, her floor would be much better. In 2011 she used to do a double arabian in her last pass
I got sad when Tim was talking about Kyla growing at the right time and being the perfect height. If only she were still that small, you knows how her bar routine would look like right now....
Nastias main problem was going back into the gymnastics gym to relearn her skills, rather than going back to the regular gym and getting back in shape so that the gymnastics comes easier 🎯

Does anyone know where I can watch the full broadcast of the Olympic Trials? I would appreciate it so much.... I have looked everywhere and only found parts here and there. Thanks!
i've asked myself the same question ever since she started doing it!if valerie had changed her dismount to something she could actually land she would have had a much better comeback
Interesting...even in 2012 it was said "if she pulls it to to her feet 3 more times both tomorrow and at the trials, she's going to London". And now Gabby is going as a bars specialist to Rio for her 2nd Olympics. I LOVE watching her on bars. She might even do Vault because she is concistent on Vault just like Laurie (they got the same scores) so maybe she'll even vault in TF.
She wasn't really an alternate. She was there for her bars and her ability to contribute strong performances everywhere else, something Maddie had to an extent, but Gabby did it better.

Can u please upload the Rio 2016 NBC team final women full replay please
It’s crazy that Tim and Elfe predicted Gabby would only really be needed on bars and she went on to be the only one to do all four events in the team final
Jordyn did AA too in the team final.
@@deepeshmathuria Jordan did 3 events in team final. No beam. Gabby did all 4
Alicia’s beam routine was almost completely spot-on!
"It's called a cover-up when you make a mistake in gymnastics." Pretty sure that's what it's called anywhere, Tim.
Lmao!!! I said the same thing! Like, I'm pretty sure that's not an insider gymnastics term there, Tim. 😂😂😂😂
How gorgeous is Gabby Douglas' leotard? Seriously, i keep staring at it!
And i LOVE Nastia's pink gear! Pink is my favorite colour, and I just ADORE all her pink leo's!!💖🖤💖🖤
I forgot Shawn Johnson and Nastia Lukin both tried to come back
2012 really was the year for gymnastics.
what Jordyn did could have blown her knee. I landed like that and did my acl and minicus
The team they created was right on point
6:48 she won a gold, 3 silvers and a bronze. Not 3 bronze and a silver
Okay, we'll give Tim and Elfie this one. They nailed it spot on.
46:51 they like predicted the team hahaha
Maroney's floor is beautiful. Reworking that third pass and it could have been great.
This was all about remaining relevant for Nastia and getting that bars gold.
why is Rebecca bross doing tat beam dismount if she can't even do it..?
Probably pure stubbornness
For like years by that point. Like just change it lol
Watching in 2020 and hoping Chellsie Memmel makes Al eat his words!!!!! "Father time and injury blah Blah BLAH". Lets GO CHELLSIE!!!!!!!!
I know I’m only 8 years late, but Sarah Finnegan’s toe point on her bar dismount was god tier
Jordyn’s routines ❤
Vault 8:34
Bars 28:02
Beam 47:54
Floor 1:27:24
During nastias bar routine she smacks her feet on the low bar
47:12 Their team is spot on!
Wow Sarah Finnegan is so underrated
It's funny how the team elfi and Tim decided, was the 2012 Olympic team
they did the exact same thing this year
It’s weird to think that if mckayla didn’t do a second vault then she would’ve been replaced on the London team by someone like Elizabeth who could help in TF on vault too.
Sarah Finnegan, beautiful gymnast! Something special there
I’ll never understand why bross wouldn’t change her dismount on beam. She NEVER got it right. It sunk her every time.
I think that's what messed up knees so much that they finally gave out.
Agree
She was always more of a front tumbler. Maybe she just couldn’t set right backwards. Speaking for myself, I had an Arabian before I had a double back, because the set just came naturally to me, while setting backwards was such a pain to learn. Took me almost my whole gymnastics career and four coaches to fix my set backwards and I think you just don’t have that time as an elite athlete
oh my god we can't escape the hot pink
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SPORTS FOR ME I DID GYMNASTICS 1993
PRACTICE FULL, STAMINA FULL, STRONG FULL PLAYERS......
BEAUTIFUL AND NICE PLAY.......
Nastia liukin and shannon same destyny.
1. Olympics trial injury 23 age
2. 12 years age
3. Last olympics match medalists.
Nastia didn’t get injured at trials
If anyone Nastia is like it is Carly Patterson. Both won all around gold and beam silver
What happened to Shawn this year? She made a come back in 2011.
Her knee couldn't handle training/ competition. So she decided to retire and take care of her physical health.
Am I the only one noticing they only have 4 names on the board when Tim stops them at 46:09 saying they've got 5? Cause it's been bugging me for ages...
I know they got to 5 after with Ross but before
Right when he said that Tim was grabbing a fifth but didn't end up putting it on
THey are on UA-cam. Also, the team finals are on you tube, and so is the all around finals. I have been following US Championships, and Worlds, and Olympics all summer.
Al misspoke about Nastia's medals in Beijing. She had a gold, three silvers, and a bronze.
If mckayla Maroney would get rid of that 3rd tumbling pass and put a double arabian instead, her floor would be much better. In 2011 she used to do a double arabian in her last pass
Kyla just created the dab before it was even made
That's what I said
Right
Yes
I got sad when Tim was talking about Kyla growing at the right time and being the perfect height. If only she were still that small, you knows how her bar routine would look like right now....
Sabrina vega is from my hometown!
Nastias main problem was going back into the gymnastics gym to relearn her skills, rather than going back to the regular gym and getting back in shape so that the gymnastics comes easier 🎯
Well we did remember nastia's bars for a long time..
Hey, she stuck the landing.
yes, could you please please upload the Olympic Team Trials I cant seem to find it anywhere! :( And I would love to see the full version. or if anyone knows where I can watch it PLEASE let me know. thanks!!
Can you upload 2011 world championships event finals? Please
I rock with Miss Sacramone....💪🏻a killer gymnast but she just seems like an "all around" awesome person.👌🏻charisma for days🙃😉
aogc always had the most beautiful leos *hearteyes*
I don't know why Bross kept that dismount... throughout her career.
Right. Like at least 2 years by that point, change it 😅😂
thanks for uploading this!
McKayla’s save on floor was… wow 😍
Liukin not forcing Rebecca to take out that stupid Patterson is inept.
Gym Style Rebecca Actually wanted to keep doing it. She insisted to keep it because without it, she wouldn’t be considered for London. Although, she would have
Does anyone know where I can watch the full broadcast of the Olympic Trials? I would appreciate it so much.... I have looked everywhere and only found parts here and there. Thanks!
Nastias arrogance on full display....3 months of training there.
At 1:41….is that McKayla Skinner?😮
Yes
Why doesn't Rebecca Bross do an easier dismount on balance beam?
i've asked myself the same question ever since she started doing it!if valerie had changed her dismount to something she could actually land she would have had a much better comeback
POWERFUL, STAMINA FULL, STRONG FULL, PRACTICE FULL PLAYERS........
WONDERFUL GAME.......
Can we mute Tim 🙄😂😂
Why did Sarah Finnegan only do 3 tumbling passes instead of 4 like everyone else?
Interesting...even in 2012 it was said "if she pulls it to to her feet 3 more times both tomorrow and at the trials, she's going to London". And now Gabby is going as a bars specialist to Rio for her 2nd Olympics. I LOVE watching her on bars. She might even do Vault because she is concistent on Vault just like Laurie (they got the same scores) so maybe she'll even vault in TF.
She wasn't really an alternate. She was there for her bars and her ability to contribute strong performances everywhere else, something Maddie had to an extent, but Gabby did it better.
in regards to Finnegan’s floor routine: what leap was after the switch ring? i don’t think that i’ve seen it before
[edit: typo]
Oh, Jordyn, why did you change your beam routine?! She performed the old one so well. :/
USA Gym doesn't upload World Comps, I believe. They are on YT though, just search it!
40:44 you can see al and elfie and Tim in the background going like "omg"
Anyone know where the Olympic Trials are posted ? I cant find it :(
So weird to see john geddert here he looked like a great coach
Sarah Finnegan's second pass reminded me of Karpenko's trip on her double arabian in Sydney
