Dad's DIY Campervan Tour - Woodburning Stove in Campervan - Is My Dad A Prepper? - Ireland Trip

  • Hi all, last weekend I was away visiting family and some touristy spots around the north coast of Ireland. I asked my dad if he could show us around his DIY campervan which he was happy to do but he asked if his voice could be excluded from the upload. So there is a bit of reading to do but hopefully it will be worth it!
For context, my dad has enjoyed camping for about 20 years, and has had a number of makeshift campervans in that time. In this van, he enjoys camping off-grid in the forest alone, but also goes to campsites that have electricity when he's with his partner (in case there is any confusion why he mentions both off-grid and electric options).
My dad could probably do with his own UA-cam channel! I'll be seeing him in the next couple of months so if you have any questions for him, let me know and I'll ask him.
This was my first visit to Rathlin Island and I absolutely loved it - especially the peace and quiet. We got a great day for the visit, but I'm sure it has its challenges if living there full-time, especially in winter!
If you have any suggestions for future videos, please let me know in the comments :) Thanks as always for your support (liking / subscribing optional but is very helpful!)
    All the best,
    Eimear

    Yep he is 🙂
That is a very nice little set up and he is right - A place for everything and everything in its place - I especially liked the little fire / stove.
I would suggest that he also adds to his Christmas list , a battery jump starter (one with a tyre compressor built in), they act as a mini power bank to run 12v DC (via a cigarette socket), most have a built in work light, great for topping up tyres or starting the van and they can be charged by the van as he drives along (again via cigarette socket).
Also you can buy small magnetic hooks - that will stick to the van body - to keep clothes out of the way or dry towels
With a Dad that organised how could you not be a prepper ?
Ps and you both walk the same 🙂

@@Lee_Proffit Thanks Lee, I’ll pass on your comments and suggestions. The comment about the walk made me laugh - must be because we’ve both got short legs 😄

If I had a camping van..instead of my car camping.. I'd love his van set up.. the stove is fantastic. I have seen one in a van before and it really works.. best off grid heat..very cosy..

Great, inexpensive set up and pretty stealthy outside look as well. I liked the use of shower curtains as sliding strorage covers. Does he have any thermal window covers for the windscreen and front windows? Easy enough to make [expensive to buy] from cheap sun screen covers and some bubble wrap and they make a huge difference during winter. 10/10

@@KeithPierce1000 Thank you! I had to ask him - he does have thermal window covers but he forgot to show them 🙂

A chimney on a van is wild. I wish I could do that.

Ok I will admit this is odd not to hear anything. A filter would work perhaps or some music in the background. In this isnstance I would of left your voice out to. None the less, I enjoyed the tour of his camper. Loving the Wood Burner!

@@TDCamper thank you - I didn’t think about a filter until Mike (UK Urban Prepper) mentioned it. He’s going to see if he can improve it🤞 so there might be a second version at a later date. Glad you liked the tour!
