Nice video, almost a period piece. Three calm, unflustered old men working peacefully together in a lovely cluttered shed and succeeding at their task.
Ain't nothing better than a johnny popper! I done alot of fieldwork on my 60, along with my old friend, Ray Washburn on his B. Thanks for another great video, Wiley 'ol buddy!!!
Mr. Wiley, I grew up on those ol'Jonny Poppers. I love it. Thank you for bringing us this save of history. I love it!!!! I spent a lot of time on the B, H, 630, and 730 series John Deere tractors. If you watched me on the Hayden Alabama Podcast, I told a story about our old 630 JD. Have a blessed day, and thank you again for great content.

That John Deere aka "Popping John" because the way it sounds... My grandfather had one when i was a young boy he used in the garden and to run the big saw mill with occasionally had a long wide belt that went over the drum on the right side of the tractor...
Early 40’s B. 47-52 they had a steel press frame. If he wants to get that carb redone. Let me know. I have a buddy that will send it back to him better than it was new. And tested and tuned before returning.

The John Deere B is a 2 cly they will last for years . As long as you take care of them an keep them clean . When you know there running right they will sit an pop on the 2 cly . They will pull like the big tractors.

Two compression-release petcocks are located under the engine at the rear of the cylinders, which makes it easier to start.
Thank you for sharing that.

When you let them sit and run you should have the clutch engaged, and I can't believe you didn't change the oil first.
Looks like my Pastor's old tractor, back in the day.
Thanks for sharing
Poppin Johnny
Is that a hit and miss engine
All old john deere's had 2 cylinder normally aspirated engines, but they were not hit and miss. We all called then jonny poppers.
No that's the way the engine run and sounds ...
That's why they are called "Popping Johns"...
It’s suppose to sound like that
It's a Poppin John mochine 😊
Anybody else would have junked this tractor. Wiley brings them back to life
