great video and appreciate the details. a few helpful parts of the video assisted me. i need help putting the cover back on. i mis-read the direction "remove cover" - - now I cannot align the 4 screw holes and 3 pins. thanks for taking the time to help others!
Question, while you had the burner assembly out WHY didn’t you clean the bottom filter below the burner assembly? Other wise a real nice job and video.
Great video Burnt Clutch. I have BW gas unit that is showing intermediate thermast calling for more heat (no faults) error. It's strange. The status light is showing no error then other times it's 2 quick strobe flashes with water not hot enough. Do think a control valve replacement will fix it? The unit is 8 years old.
Hi Burnt Clutch. Excellent video. Can the gas control valve in the link replace the Honeywell wt8840a1000 model? You said you got wrong one and changed it in your video. pl let me know. Thank you in advance
Check with your local plumbing supply that carries Bradford white line Ferguson. The main thing is the length of the gas control valve nipple. One is 1 inch long and the other is 2 inch long.
Is the status light supposed to stay green/on? Just got a BW installed yesterday and the light is not on so wondering if I should report it now bc the tank is new so they change it?
U had to do this after how many years/?? ur water heater looks new they gonna install one for me tomorrow ...i dont know i like Rheem more & kinda scared turned up lemon , i hope is good quality
As a service plumber i personally do not like Bradford white. This heater was 4 years old. I repaired many Bradford whites. Tanks usually leak around 6-8 years. Just keep up with maintenance
@@sanantonionolimitrcracing HEY MAN ..kinda saw ur comment late, they installed 40 gallon ECO defender for me today , but i got extended warranty on that for 10 years now for $170, worth it i think , they pay for all parts & if leaks replaced it with NEW one during 10 years ...and as he said is simple & easy just drain it & flush it every year ..i went with bradford White ..because i have 18" dimeter around throw the door closet ..so with B/W i can put 40 gallon ..but with Rheem i can put ONLY 29 gallon , so didnt have much choice , so anything happen during 10 years parts free & the first year everything free & told him bring me the latest released date model heater ... mine is built on August 2021, so is fresh & he said they rebuilt the Controller in these new ones this year & plus he was super nice & profession & his company 10 minutes away from my house & he respond same day, so is very convince ,...so i guess finger cross will see & thanks for reply
do you ever have to clean the bottom? I have heard this is an issue with these Bradfords. I have a 50 gallon that the pilot stays lite but the burner doesn't stay on. Yesterday it blinked a weak pilot light, yet today it blinked a High temp code. I am confused.
That's weird, most of these gas control valves screw off in the regular CCW direction, but yours has reverse threads. Just make sure if your watching this, that you make sure you get the correct part for your water heater as they are not all the same.
mine is less than a year old and the status light would not come on and warranty would not cover it. I even called Honeywell and they said they make these valve control for this and another brand exclussively so I bought amused one on ebay for $90. Makes me mad that they put these on them. Thanks for the video.By the way mine doesnt have the ignighter button
Yeah..Absolutely NOT necessary to drain hot water tank. Put tank into vacuum & swap valve. FYI these Honeywell valves are failure prone & expensive to repair. No need for thermopile & electronic valve. Only thing they do better than the older valves is tempurture regulation. Junk!

excellent video. Saved me a bundle
Great video, very detailed. Thanks a lot!
Can I use the part with 2” nipple until right part comes in?
I brought the same part number and it's not catching. What is the part number you ended up getting that was slimmer?
Question, while you had the burner assembly out WHY didn’t you clean the bottom filter below the burner assembly? Other wise a real nice job and video.
Because he was there to replace the gas valve, not give a full service to the heater. It’s his choice, the inside could have been pretty clean
Nice video but you didn’t clean the bottom filter and there is no dirt leg for the gas ?
It was clean & the gas drip leg is on the gas line.
Your right I see the dirt leg my bad
How did you know you needed a new gas valve and pilot assembly? Always both or sometimes one or the other?
Thanks
You can test them with a multi meter.

the input steam has to be the as the old
How did you know it was bad or needed replacing?
Awesome video!!!

It should blink once every 3 seconds
Thanks....nice job!

I had same problem, replaced gas control valve now water heater works like new did it myself ,plumbers want over 500 bucks to replace it no way !!!!
@Ruben Delatorre ok cool thanks. I bought a pilot assembly but haven’t install. I need the gas valve itself then?
@@semajtheguru9183 ok cool thanks. I bought a pilot assembly but haven’t install. I need the gas valve itself then instead
@@rehabbychris974 I change the assembly to why I was doing it, its all easy to do but yeah the valve is the problem
@@rehabbychris974 yes replace the gas control valve as well and it should work like new
Good teaching
Do you HAVE to drain the heater? I thought this model allowed you not to have to drain it?
If you are replacing the gas control valve yes. If only the pilot then no
I caught how you installed the pilot assembly on the wrong side the the jump cut edit switched the sides...lol

you didn't check for gas leaks. But looking good
I think you could have just replaced the gas valve portion without removing and replacing the entire thing
