    Your original Helix demo from a year ago it's what made me take the dive to by my Rack unit. At the time it was the only demo that actually made the Helix sound well and exhibit its full potential. Glad to see you are using it!! I do the same thing in my studio with bands who want to use real amps. I'll run the amp into my Fryette Powerstation for load and use the helix as an Ir loader.

    Pete please help me.
    1. Can I record a dry DI track into my DAW with the Helix.
    2. Can I reamp/add effects in post with the controls on the Helix.
    3. Most importantly, while I'm tracking raw DI with the Helix into my DAW, can I dial in my effects and play through my AMP (not the monitors) while I am tracking?

    I would like some day to buy a real Tube Amp head and use it with my helix LT. I don't know if I have to buy or not a reactive load box and what happens if you don't use it. I'm aware that new real amps have and XLR DI out. My question is if I can use somehow Helix IRs with this XLR DI amp output

    Hi Pete. Could you please do a demo of how you use your speaker impulse responses? I have some of the OwnHammer IR's but struggling to get a good, natural sounding cab simulation inside the Two Notes Wall of Sound. Thanks

    • @rockinchippy

      Chris Shearwood - what are you sending into the WOS? Real amp? Helix?

    • @ctsguitar
      @ctsguitar 7 років тому

      rockinchippy Hi, thanks for your help. I'm trying to use a couple of real amp heads through the Two Notes Torpedo Reload, Logic Pro X & WOS plugin. For speaker simulation I'm using the OwnHammer IR cabs, but so far it's sounding pretty bad! Not sure how to properly dial in a good sounding speaker cab using IR sound files?

    • @rockinchippy
      @rockinchippy 7 років тому +1

      Chris Shearwood - I hate to say this but it's the load in the Reload. Make the plunge and get the Suhr Reactive Load. The load is the single most important ingredient in the single chain.

    • @ctsguitar
      @ctsguitar 7 років тому

      rockinchippy Thanks. I was first considering the Suhr RL but I can only really afford to buy one, so decided to go with the Two Notes as it covered more of my recording needs. I believe the Torpedo is also a reactive load like the Suhr. Have you been able to A/B both in comparison? If so, is the Suhr a big difference?
      The Torpedo does have the benefit of switching impedance; I find my amps sound best at 16ohms. I've read somewhere that a reactive load is still to some degree a fixed load, just that the impedance curve is not flat like a fixed load. In other words, the sound of a reactive load will still vary between amplifiers.
      Your recordings also sound great though. Can I ask what you use for your impulses, how you blend speakers/mics etc?

    • @ctsguitar
      @ctsguitar 7 років тому

      rockinchippy Sorry to bother you again. Do you own the Torpedo Reload? If so, could you give your opinion on the Two Notes load vs the Suhr Reactive Load?
      I don't have much time left to decide if I should return the Two Notes, but would hate to think I got rid of the Torpedo due to user error. Having said that, there is a fuzziness I can't seem to dial out of my recordings & my DAW levels aren't peaking! Just seeking an unbiased opinion whether or not the Suhr is a BIG difference in sound quality? Thanks

    I want to do some sort of reamping, but I don’t know enough about cables to know wether or not I can use both ts or trs cables to make this work or if I need to stick with one or the other. I’m looking at buying the two notes torpedo reload to snag my amps output (signal: guitar, line 6 helix rack, DIoutput from helix to Bugera TRIREC, TRIREC to two notes torpedo, torpedos line out to go into line 6 helix send/return)
    My question may we be with ts and trs cables with xlr-m and xlr-f ends specifically
    How can I know what cable to use and when? I understand that one is balanced and the other is unbalanced, but does that mean one is stereo and the other is mono? Or are they all mono?
    Is the line out on the two notes torpedo mono or stereo? Is that a dumb question?? Should I already know something like this??? Lmao. Fr though, I feel like this is something I should know and I’m over here pulling my hair out over it.
    Apologies in advance for my long winded comment. 🤘🏼

    Would love to see you try a week of just using the HELIX alone into the studio monitors - bearing in mind the new models - litigator etc.. and seeing if you - after some twiddling are able to get perfectly good tones straight out of the rack to match that TopHat.
    And then post a vid of your discoveries.
    Maybe some comparison switching between TopHat returns and a plexi or JTV model ?

      who cares what a shuckster has to say? ; ) sorry - feeling retahded. But I do have a question for you if you don't mind. I am torn (thorn) between kemper and helix. I want the best feel. If you are using your amp the way you are, does that mean you use the helix only for effects? or do you still use the amp models? not really an expert as you can likely tell. 4 cable method implies you are using the Suhr's preamp right? I would like to know what you think of the feel of the helix just by itself. I would want to use a powered frfr cab (I think so at any rate). but does taking tubes out of the equation kill the feel and tone? I would appreciate your feedback shucky baby!

    • @jasonwilliamshuck
      @jasonwilliamshuck 7 років тому

      i use my Helix in many ways: 4CM w/ Suhr and my dual DV Mark Lil 40 tube heads/cabs rig and also with my Bassbreaker 15. With the Suhr, i'm instantly switching the 4CM preset AND the desired amp preset via MIDI. The drive on the Suhr is so great that i'm only using the Helix for Wah/Comp/OD pedals > Suhr >Helix FX in loop.
      With the DV rig and the BB15, i run into the tube preamps for clean presets and then, on the Crunch and Lead presets, i'm bypassing the tube preamp and using the Helix models. They sound amazing to me and it's completely seamless. I've also got a couple banks of presets that are optimized for DI to my active QSC PA system for small venues where an amp is too loud.
      All versions sound great, and 99.9% of all audience folks would never know/care what i'm using. As for the "feel", in my experience, that comes from tube power amps pushing back and reacting to dynamics. Nothing I have ever used live or in studio (pretty much at least one of everything made over the last 30 years) truly replicates the organic feel of playing through a real tube amp. That said, i think the Helix LT is probably the best overall cost/performance/feature set device i've owned, and it's just so very useful in many ways for live performance or recording applications. hope that helps a bit.

Personally i would think the rack is more suited for me because I don't want to crowl under my desk everytime I wanted to turn a knob. I plugged in and scrolled through some presets. It sounded no better than my old BOSS GT-6. (As was I'd never cut through a mix live)I didn't have time to experiment but I'm certain the unit can sound better with a more ideal setup. Pete's 1st Helix demo blew me away.

    Pete, I'M SOLD!!! Thank you for taking the time to demo this great processor! I've been mulling for years because I used to think tube-amps wouldn't work with this processor well enough or possible conflicts due to the lack of circuitry. I also was being bombarded by my buddies on getting a GT-1000. I didn't want to go the pedal-board route anymore and found the Helix. Your video really put to shame what my friends were telling me. It goes to show you that friends, and how many of us have them, aren't the authority on rack systems, musicians like you are!!

    Considering this is only a couple of months old - this tells me you like the Helix quite a bit. Not sure if you still have the Fractal FX8, but just wondering which do you prefer? I'm also wondering if you notice any loss of fidelity (compared to plugging in straight to the amp) by putting the amp in a loop as the signal is converted to digital first, then back to go to the loop send, then to digital on return, and then back to analog at the final outputs.

    Hi Pete!
    I got a question (scratching my head).
    I have the 145 leslie on a patch and it is shown as stereo.
    But does it split the signal there directly to the output, even if it is in a line followed by other mono efx.?
    i can't seem to see the stereo signal path, I'm only guessing and listening to whats happening.
    Thanx in advance ;-)

    Hello Pete, the line 6 helix can be used with a combo ??? or is not a good choice ? thanks for this Helix Rack demo

    Bro, when you started off with the relatively clean tone at the beginning, that guitar sounds ridiculous! Like, RIDICULOUS!
    Loving the videos and your approach to everything you're doing. Got a sub outta me!

    Great video Pete. I just got my Helix rack on Saturday and am having a blast with it. Tomorrow I am going to experiment using a load box and a Marshall Class 5.

    I would love to see you do a Helix demo that focuses on amp modeling. I know you did another Helix demo, but several of the examples use external tube amps with load boxes. I'm sure that you could come up with some amazing tones that use only Helix amps and effects.

      Phillip Hintze not exactly what you're looking for, but I think they play around with some on one of the earlier Tim & Pete shows

    Hey Pete! Can you explain how the amp "fake load" thing works? How can I send the signal back to the fx processor?
    Greetings from Brazil.

      Felippe Medeiros The speaker output of the amplifier goes into the load box. The output of the load box, which is at line level, goes back into the helix. You add the speaker simulation within the helix, I'm doing it via an impulse response block, so I can use the speaker sound of my choosing. Then stereo out of the helix into my recording interface.

      Pete Thorn I have an old Pod HD500...would this work with that? No IR block but there are built in cabs

    Great videos Pete, please keep up all the great work. The sounds you can get from that Helix are persuading me to invest in one.
