    Sounds great! I recreated this with an LT and love it. I had an issue summing myself to mono when using an A/B split to left and right IR's however. Finally it hit me that I needed to use a Y split and hard pan L/R before the IRs instead. Thanks for the vid!

    It would be great to do another video like this but for the updated Distance Over Time (the song Fall into the Light has a great intro that highlights his tone). There was a Sweetwater video which dived into what mics and everything he used for recording. It would be awesome to see a video based off of that to see how close it could match that tone. Great video!

      yes in ableton(or other daw) put a delay on an other channel copy past your recording and set delay to 25ms and feedback to zero mix 100/100 channel all pan to the right and other channel where is your recording all pan to the left you have your wider effect too but with phasing issues or not depending of tweeking.

    Disclaimer: I loosely based these tones on his actual settings but not 1:1. I also really like his Recto tones from the T.O.T. era so that influence is definitely also in these tones. If you want a tighter low end turn down the bass a bit more.

    You could do with less bass / mud on the rythm sound. On his JP2c amp there are videos of him taking bass completely out. I'd suggest also dropping the drive until it tightens up.

    Cool stuff indeed!
    Just not sure about the Lead part, doesn't sound as creamy as John's one. I assume just because ts808 tone is missing (John uses it as a boost). also the Rhy sounds very harsh compared with typical john tones (Pull me under is not a good comparison... John himself is not super-happy about that parts), this may work in the studio but it might not be good for live perfomances. Fair to say the IR response in NadIR is also very different compared with Helix floor/LT one (43ms vs 200ms)

    I really like the trick with the delay for dual guitar sound (12:30) .... but when I reproduce the sound in a monophonic listening there is a big problem with the phase ,,,

  • @JayLGuitar
    @JayLGuitar 4 роки тому

    just a note about the widening delay technic. By delaying the left side of your signal, you actually are panning the guitare on the right side (it is pretty audible in this exemple). This is just a thing to be aware of. Further more, in a live context it can be a great idea because it helps to fill the space. In the studio, this kind of trick is not mono compatible and may blur your heavy guitar where you may want very precise attack. I do like panning stuff with time differences, but maybe not this kind of guitar part

    are there any benefit to put the chorus in front of the amp instead of after amp? Thanks

    • @SonicDriveStudio
      @SonicDriveStudio  6 років тому

      When you put an effect in front of the amp it will act more as a pedal, if you put it after the amp it will act more as an effect in the loop or in a rack for example. The sound can be a little bit different. For instance, after the amp effects can be stereo or they can effect the sound going into distortion etc. Just experiment, there are no rules.

    • @MdFarooque13
      @MdFarooque13 5 років тому

      Petrucci uses Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Compressor & Overdrive in of front of the amp. So thats how we should do right?

  • @SwBeyond
    @SwBeyond 5 років тому

    So... If I get this right, you load the IR in the DAW and do ALL tweaking in Native? Where does the IR end up in the signal CHAIN then? I mean, this is all swell and dandy in a studio setting, but for my live set-up...not so much.
    In other words, If I where to recreate this in the Helix work window, where would I then put the IR?

    • @dragomirdenev9783
      @dragomirdenev9783 5 років тому

      Wanted to ask the same thing... I experimented to put the IR just after the amp (before the split) and after the join. In the latter scenario the stereo effect is lost. In the former - it sounds very close to when the IR is in NadIR but there is still noticeable difference. I want to know why is that and what is the difference b/w having the IR in NadIR (after the plugin) and in an IR block after the amp.

    • @dragomirdenev9783
      @dragomirdenev9783 5 років тому

      OK, found the answer (by pure chance) - it turned out that I have to lower the level for the IR block with 2dB (-18 to -20) to make it sound the same as with NadIR. So, the position right after the amp is the correct one.

  • @masgujeff
    @masgujeff 6 років тому +2
