I have a Rottweiler, so I never planned on having a cat.. Then one showed up on my porch looking like she was about to starve to death, so I had to feed her... She and my dog now cuddle up together during naps.
Dominique, we've had 3 dogs (all different breeds) along with 2 cats who would burrow so close to our lab that they were invisible! Loved our menagerie!
“Cats are independent” Tell that to my cat who follows me from room to room, lays on me every time I sit down, and refuses to sleep anywhere but on my bed with me
I rescued a little kitten, his mother and siblings were killed by a neighborhood dog. He was only 2 weeks old. He's a big boy now. We named him Linguini.
April I also rescued a kitten. I found her near a tree. I don't know how old she is, but she's been with us for almost 2 weeks now. I named her Hoshi that means star in Japanese
April thank u for savin him, if you could get in that cats head for just ten seconds to see the way he views you guys, youd prolly break down, we are everything to these fuzzy fellas, I mean everything, they just try not to show it ;)
My youngest is a feral who walked through my open sliding glass door one cold, rainy February night and refused to leave. I figured after $60 for fixing her, I was stuck with her, and Missa Little Bits is happy to now have a warm home, a big sister and two big brothers to bug the crap out of.
Julie Nielsen, Well,...What if the Cat/Kitten is a PuppyCat? PuppyCats are awesome! I’ve had one or two during my adult life. Great fun, having a PuppyCat follow me everywhere in my apartment, sleeps with me, or on me. Love regular Cats too.
Mistake no9: *NEVER* declaw your cat. The procedure removes not only the claws but also the fingers which cause permanent damage and intense pain. If there are concerns about scratching furniture, make sure there is an easily accessible surface in the house, either horizontal or vertical, according to the cat preference, as a scratching post where they can exercise their natural behavior.
I have/have had two cats who were declawed by their previous owners, and neither one showed any signs of pain or trauma. The first lived to be 20, and the other is 10. I'm not advocating for declawing by any means though.
The Tyttuutface Cats can't show when they are in pain no animal really can, they just suffer in silence and doing that gives them no sort of defense against anything
Declawing is a horrible surgical procedure that makes it so the claws can't grow back, but clipping a cat's claws is fine as it (if done well) causes no harm, and can be good for making sure the claw isn't caught on anything
Another HUGE mistake cat owners do that I have unfortunately seen far too often: the put collars on their cats WAY WAY too tight! The collar MUST be lose enough for you to easily get two fingers under it. People do not realize the extreme discomfort and torture they give their cats by being unaware that putting a collar on a kitten MUST be adjusted regularly as it grows. Too often I have observed videos with a tiny kitten with this huge collar made of heavy material on that tiny little neck. It absolutely breaks my heart every time! I want to scream!
Or putting bells on the collar cats love to hunt and a ringing bell scare the prey away frustrating the car also even putting a collar on a cat could cause chocking if it gets caught in a branch etc
CurlyBob 5 I TOTALLY agree! Bells should NEVER be put on any animals. They discovered that cows who have a cow bell have lower weight and produce 1/3 less milk from the stress of the unending ringing.
The bells are useful to hear where they are. It only really makes much noise when they scratch or when it taps the floor. Less likely for them to get stuck in a closed room or stepped on. It's not like it disturbs their sleep, as for hunting, they can still stalk and pounce they are just less likely to catch anything more than insects as the bell will alert the bird/mouse etc. But not having germy dead corpses around is also not negative.
My cat Oscar is far more loyal and obedient than any dog I've ever had. He always comes when called, is by my side pretty much 24/7 and learned to sit on command and play fetch in a week. I don't think it's fair at all to pigeon hole cats as a pet like you have. IT BREAKS MY HEART TO HAVE TO EDIT THIS IN BUT MY BABY SADLY PASSED AWAY. He died of an extremely rare kind of stroke that was completely unpreventable and what the senior vet at the practice described as a freak occurrence. He passed away in my arms and I have his ashes in a beautiful urn with his picture on the top. My heart has been shattered into pieces. Everyone PLEASE make sure to kiss and hug and love on your fur babies every second you are around them because things can can change in an instant. I wouldn't wish this pain upon my worst enemy.
I totally agree! My last two cats who both lived until they were 18 in my present cat who is still with me fortunately completely treats me like a companion and gives unconditional love! If you give your cat continuous attention when you first rescue them, just like you would give a dog because you have to, it will be not only a lap cat, but will come when you call it, follow you everywhere, and be extremely obedient. I'm so deeply upset that she said if you want a pet that will love you unconditionally a cat is not the right pet! She obviously has allowed her cat to be completely independent, which they can be pretty much, but if you give them love and talk to them like you do a dog, and praise them, they will treat you with an amazing unbelievable amount of love consistently!
Emily Neu Thanks for asking! My cats name is Logan. My former cats name was Oblio. Before going to sleep, I could always carry both of them upstairs cradled in my arms like a baby. My husband was not a cat person, but he has been converted LOL
That is so sweet! I love hearing about other peoples relationship with their cats. I feel as though cat's definitely don't get enough praise when it comes to being 'loyal' or 'obedient. You have to put in the effort with cats and form a bond that is equal give and take. Dogs are wired differently and I can't stand when compare the two, they are completely different animals that think differently from one another. You can't apply what you know about dogs to a cat and wonder why the cat is indifferent to you. I wish you and Logan all the best xo
please stop, cats do not think of themselves as gods, because they give us ''food'', which is mice and birds. they actually treat us as cat mothers bruh...unlike dogs who ''pant pant pant'' for food which can cause obesity. i'm not saying i hate dogs though, because of the *d o g g o, b e p i s, c h e e m s,* and *b o o p i s,* so please don't whoop my ass.
Your hand is not a toy, so it shouldn't be scarred as one. Find out what you're doing wrong to provoke this behavior and correct it for the comfort of both of you :)
I hate it when people say “dogs are better! Dogs have more love!” That’s so fake. Cats and dogs both have feelings, none are better than the other. Both cats and dogs have feelings. Dogs and cats are both awesome. I love cats but I don’t Discriminate dogs either, so for the love of gods sake..STOP STEREO TYPING GOD DAMN
When I come home, my cats wait for me by the door. I have lock them out of my bedroom at night, and they still cry outside my door for a hour. In the morning, they wait for me, and follow me down stairs. Whenever I do something, they stay with me, until I sit down, then sit on my lap. When I watch tv, they come in an watch it with me (They like animal show.) According to best real information, cats that are lost soon die due to starvation, and neglect. People just treat cats like shit, and they learn to live being ignored. Cats, dogs, and children are pretty much the same, you get out of them, what you put in. The only differance is cats can be ignored with out ruining your life. Dogs, and children turn into nightmares for those who have them, and ignore them.
I had a cat who used to sit up on top of the hill behind my house at the time. When I would come around the bend he would tear ass down the hill to greet me. How do you not love that? He got killed by a mountain lion a few years later. I actually saw the lion a few days after he disappeared and put two and two together. All I could see was red and I chased the mountain lion. If I had my brains at the time I wouldn't have but it just sort of happens. No lectures about outside cats please. Especially if you drive a car.
I just lost my cat from liver failure a few weeks ago. She was about sixteen years old. I still miss her terribly. What I don't miss, is the hairball. If I had a dollar for every time I got out of bed and stepped on a cold, wet, mushy hairball, I could retire. Of course, having to get up at 3AM to get ready for work each day didn't help. No one's awake at 3AM and fully functional, so I would never think to look over the edge of the bed before I got out of it. Trust me, it wakes you up really quick. Still miss my Jiggles though.
sorry for your loss :( I lost my cat almost 2 years ago, she was 20 1/2!! I set her picture as my background screen on my phone and don't think I'll ever change it.
My sweetie lived to be almost 19. I combed and brushed her regularly, so no hairballs, which meant her vomiting toward the end was a sign that all was not well.
I'm so sorry for your loss, it must be terrible..... in other notes, I don't think you can retire with around $960, yes I did the math, sorry, I'm bored (i knew it was a joke)
I miss my cat so much :( She was so precious, she came when her name was called, loved attention and her belly scratched. She made me happy when I was upset and having a bad day. I can go on forever about how much she meant to me. R.I.P ❤️
It upsets me greatly to hear her say in her very first comment that if you want an obedient and unconditionally loving animal you should not get a cat. I have treated the cats I have had in my life with incredible love particularly when I first rescue them. I have had one of the time, at one time in my life two cats, and Iall have lived very long lives. Although they may have had different personalities, they have all come when I call, they greet me at the door when I come in, we play games together, and everyone says they act like dogs. I believe it is in my NOT thinking of them as independent and being with them for very long periods of time when I first get the cat, that makes them want to be with me wherever I go and come to me when it's playtime. I hope whoever made this video reads this, because I have loved and been very much loved by all of the cats in my life!
Rainbow no what she said first is correct, just worded poorly. As cat owners we understand how cat love works but the first point was framed in a dog owners perspective. They think cats are just another version of dog and when they don't show the love they expect they get mad etc
I've tried to convince myself with the "he sits on my lap, cuddles in my blanket" argument as well. But there's this counter argument that "he comes to me for warmth. He's using me."
I guess you could think of it in the same way with a human baby. He comes to your lap, he sits with you and cuddles. But that doesn't mean he doesn't love you! The dog may jump up-and-down, and a cat may meet greet you at the door. One is more subtle, but it doesn't mean there is less love at all from where I sit💓
+Animal Love-See Rainbow's response below. Even if he is using your body for warmth, so what? :D. Cats don't seek out people for warmth and comfort unless they really trust, love, and are fond of that person. My cat will seek me out when he wants to either drop in my lap or cuddle in the blanket-both of which he doesn't do as much with my dad, who feeds him often but doesn't have as close of a relationship with my cat that my cat and I do. It's true that the cat might be using your body like a blanket but that also means he trusts you and finds you so comfortable and loving, that he wants to come to you for comfort. It's similar behavior kittens do with their moms-they'll go to someone they trust and is a source of comfort. So if you have a cat and he's sitting on your lap and cuddles in your blanket, that means that he does truly want to be by your side. If a cat doesn't like someone, they'll usually avoid that person entirely. If they don't like you, they'll let you know. But if your cat does go out of his way to acknowledge you: greeting you, sitting on your lap, and cuddling in the blanket, know that it is the cat's subtler way of acknowledging you and that he does love you very much.
many people dont give cats the time they need to warm up to a human, because dogs tend to warm up quicker. it took months for one of my cats to come sit next to me, but once he did he never left.
would you believe that FIREWOOD is the preferred scratchup at my place?!! I suppose I do have a lot of it laying around. She ends up tearing the bark off if there's any on it.
Yup, I hate when people think that cat is like a dog. I know many people from my family and friends who thinks this way. And then when they adopt a cat they are angry it doesn't act like a dog which ends up on the cat getting threw away. Also my three cats were very young when we get them, less than a month old. It was because they were cats from a cat that was outdoor and they had way too much fleas to get them later. We were just too worried about them.
Another thing people might want to try if they want to get their cat's attention is to speak to them in a higher pitched voice, since cats' ears are more attuned to higher pitched noises (think mice, for example). It's not that cats are always rude, they may actually not notice we're talking to them!
@@ayyceeve5038 buy good litter, clean your litter 2x daily, have the litter box in a well vented area (not in a closet or in a back room, the litter boxs do better in bathrooms/bedrooms/living rooms) and change the litter while cleaning the litter box with dish soap monthly.... if your litter box stinks, youre doing something wrong
We found my cat (in profile picture) in Oiler garage when he was 12 weeks, we cared for him and looked for his mom but we soon found out that his mom was feral and by the time we found this out he was 20 weeks so we kept him, now he isn’t a very social cat to people he doesn’t know but he is very social with his human family and with other cats.
Found my cat Brownie last August when he must have been around 12 weeks old as well. I found him crying alone and scared with no mom or other kittens around. Only recently he started to socialize with other people that he doesn't know, more easily than what he used to. He is still a little bit scared when he meets someone new, but found out that he stops being scared of them very quickly. My mom and sister used to visit him at my home when i first found him so he loves them too. You have a very beautiful cat and i'm glad you saved him.
I have always had dogs and never had cats until two feral cats adopted us. I didn't expect a cat to be anything like a dog but I guess we just related to the cats like we did to our dogs. Our two cats are so smart and actually listen better than the dogs. They learn very fast. Every day these mysterious creatures amaze me. My sweet dog even loves them.
One month is 4 weeks, that is just right. They are well weaned by then. Heck, I found my cat as an abandoned kitten at 2 weeks. He is now 15 and the best cat I ever had.
Janet Siegel same here, the "owner" decided that the mother cat had too many kittens so they simply wanted to kill the two smallest. My mother rescued them, we bottlefed them and now we have the two chubby little boys for over a year. Kitten crying is even worse than human baby crying I swear, but I wouldn't exchange them for anything.
kitty kat beauty there are a big number of pet stores and breeders who sell babies way too young...my friend got a baby bunny from country max and the little girl was only a month old. She should have stayed with her mother until she was two months. My rabbit, Milo, was given to me from a “breeder”-she only breeds hers once yearly and not during Easter. They’re purebred rex bunnies, she litter trains them, lets them run a big area with the mom for two months, and then gives them to good homes. She will hold an auction for the ones that aren’t taken by a certain date, but it’s a decently timed date. Sometimes whole litters go to good homes. She even drives the bunny to the adopter’s location to make sure they’re getting good care. But yeah, I’ve had two of her bunnies in my life and they are beautiful, wonderfully cared for bunnies with amazing personalities. I also have a rescue that was sold way too young and maybe I’m just assimilating these two things, but he has serious trust issues despite loving pets.I’m his third home and he’s been with Milo and I for about seven months now. It does affect their behavior if they’re taken away too young. It’s bad.
4 weeks is way too young, come on people! Yes, they may be weened by then, but it seems everyone is forgetting about a little thing called socializing...? They learn most of their social skills from their mother. Over all, the best age to adopt a kitten, or a pup for that matter, is between two and three months. When it comes to getting a pup or kitten from a breeder, in many cases three months is considered best. I can't believe you people actually think 4 weeks is okay to take a kitten away from it's mother...
PS The best video for someone who understands cats is called "How I trained my cat". It shows absolutely how with the right amount of attention and love a cat can be so much more than people who don't own cats may think. It's all about respect and understanding!
I am sorry I could not comply with not adopting too young. I found my cat on the street when he was a little kitten. He was alone and wounded and would die if I didn't take him to the vet and treated him. But I completely agree that babies should stay with mommies as mucu as they can.
You did a great thing. I took my kitty from the street, she was so thin & dirty it was obvious no-one was caring for her. Now she has the best life & is so strongly bonded to me it's amazing.
Yea we got ours when he fit in my palm we found him on facebook and the lady said she got him from outside and he's a super rowdy cat lmao. He pretty comedy but we love him.
Just wanted to point out that yes, while cats hunt alone in the wild, they hunt more than they need for themselves in order to feed those less able to hunt within their family unit. Cats are incredibly social creatures!!
For those of you considering declawing, let me give you some advice... Declawing a cat... 1: Is equivalent to de-fingering/toeing a human being: It is very painful and causes permanent and lasting damage and pain. As Jackson Galaxy ("My Cat From Hell") said, it is a de-knuckling of the cat. How would you like that? 2: causes the cat to lose a primary tool for stability: The claw also function as cushion for the cat's paws without which causes the cat pain. 3: drastically weakens if not destroys its climbing ability. 4: , since the cat has its claws no longer, encourages biting which is way more hazardous than scratching due to the mouth contents. 5: opens up very vulnerable areas which can lead to infection (e.g. they are far more vulnerable every time which they poop) and premature and avoidable death. 6: affects the cat's personality (they usually become more aggressive). 7: deprives it of its first line of defense (particularity bad if it's an outside cat or is exposed to such dangers or animals even if it's an inside cat). 8: causes it to more likely go outside the litterbox. 9: makes it need to relearn walking. 10: has the natural effect of exposing a cat to the risks of botched surgeries. 11: is illegal in some countries (and parts of the USA) as it's considered animal cruelty (and with good reason). [There are more but I think that I got the most (if not all) the major ones and that you all get the point.] Again, declawing a cat is equivalent to de-fingering/de-toeing a human being and there still being at least some open wounds: How do you think that that would affect you not only physically, but psychologically and emotionally? Please consider safe, humane, non-permanent, and painless alternatives, and if you ever seriously consider declawing a cat, then please consider rehoming it instead. Ultimately, educate yourself on cats before getting and consider whether you can and will care for the cat's needs properly and humanely. If you cannot or will not, then don't get one; you will be doing yourself and the cat a huge favor. Please be nice and a fair to the animals which we share a planet with and have a nice day and life. Thanks for reading!
Declawing a cat is illegal in most civilized countries. We consider it animal cruelty, and if anything happens in breach of our wide ranging animal protection laws, the animal will be removed, and the perpetrator will be fined and/or receive a short sentence based on the severity. Any country, that still allows declawing, needs to take a good hard look in the mirror.
My cat is sterilized and he has access to a food 24/7 and he isn’t gaining weight. I found him when he was idk maybe 3 weeks old and wow I bet you’ve never seen such a cutie pie in your life.
I already screwed up... Mine gets what she wants when she wants it... I may or may not have spoiled her. Not to mention her need for always needing attention. However i love her and i love that my kitty is so affectionate
Our cats adopted us. Either the mom was killed or they were abandoned. Max was found under one of chairs on porch during a a very wet rainy day, we opened the door and he ran in, hasn't left the house in 2-3 years he is extremely lovable. Max sleeps in my son's bed with him. Annie was found in the field next door. She was abandoned at birth our neighbors and my mom and I waited to see if the would come but never did. So around sunset we got three of the three of the surviving kittens. One was already dead. We buried it. One died overnight. Thank god our cat had kittens and she took them in right away. We did help feed them. Now my brother has one and my daughter kept Annie, she's 4. Now Tales Bert, my son and I were walking back from the store and he basically followed us home. We gave him food and kitten formula and water. He came in the house after two weeks. Poor thing his tail some how got infected and fell off, literally. So we took to the vet. He had surgery and got all his shots. He are going to fix him in January. He sleeps in my bed all night long. Axle is my sister's cat that she left behind when she moved out of state. She says she will be coming to get him, but that's been almost eight years ago. He found on the axle of the car we went every that day. And this poor kitten was riding in the axle fir have the morning. my dad dropped me off at work and then after grocery shopping they see a little paw hanging down the opened some cat food. He jumped down and sister gapped him. She held him on the way back home. That was about ten years ago. Yes she let eat in the car. He acts like a baby every time she visits. He good in and out of the house. Now Oliver aka Ollie, he adopted my daughter. Every time my daughter goes to the garage his waiting for her at the back door. His an outside cat. Won't let anyone but daughter petting him. Now there are three stays that stays in this area. We feed them and give them fresh water. We are trying to catch them and take them to the ASPCA. They are skittish around humans even us. We really need to catch the female all of her kittens expect one died. We were lucky to catch her and talk her to the vet and he adopted out once she got better. She was cute.
My cats Jim and his brother Bob are actually sitting on each side of my computer desk as I write this. I can't even eat a snack or type on my keyboard. They walk with me, They sleep with me, Or shall I say" I sleep with them, They get 90% of the bed and my large frame gets 10% I always turn the volume down incredibly low to make sure they don't hear any cats meowing, don't dare turn up the volume with any videos with cats meowing or I'll have 2 fuzzy butts in my face with their tails hitting me in the face. . lol
My first cat was abandoned by its mother at less than two days old because he had a disability.... I became his mom and now he lives happily with my boyfriend (although I don't think he gets enough social interaction) but despite that he is pretty healthy
My cat HATES to be picked up. They only time he's OK with it is when we're going upstairs. He'll sit on my lap all day and sleeps pressed up against me or between my legs, but does not want to be picked up. We have staring contests all the time, but if I pick him up he refuses to look me in the eye. My little 9 lb. tuxedo is always near or on me, rarely leaving the room I'm in.
My cat died at 7 months due to liquids building up around the abdominal area. I feel bad because we obviously weren't prepared to have a cat. Not only that, we couldn't afford the vet. From this I learned that you absolutley have to be prepared to have a cat no matter what. Rest in peace Camo❤
Omg I love your voice. It's like silk to my ears and soul. Perfect pitch, perfect accent, perfect cadence, perfect volume...... Alan Rickman and nosleep narrator Dr. Creepen are my "must marry the voice" males and you are my "must marry the voice" female.
Nadya Rossi Oops you made a little mistake there oh I guess you just haven't met my Garfield so I guess you just haven't met my Garfield yet I guess he's a dog stuck in a cat's body we go on we go on long walks off leash he knows how to sit I tell him to come he comes becomes to the Stars in the natural on the bus quiet as a mouse and after coffee brakes just us laying in the Sun
My wife and I have a cat named Mini-Me, He's so sweet and is totally my wife's cat. But their is a small problem. We got him fixed like 9 yrs ago and he thinks he can still... Ummm yeah that thing. We have a young female called Bitz. ( I call her my little Itty bitty kitten committee.) And EVERY morning he starts calling her and yeah It feels a tad odd to say, DUDE YOU CAN'T DO THAT ANYMORE! JUST ACCEPT IT.
I have a cat that I got and she"s a rescue cat. And I named the cat Cash, and then we took the cat to the vet and we found out that the was a female, but I still kept her name. And I agree not todeclaw your cat, because if you do declawing them, the cat won't won't have anything to defend himself with. And I grew up cats too. From Pamela Hagstrom
Jack Ream THREE WEEKS?! They just start to open their eyes at 2 weeks... Cats can never learn the same from a human as they do from their own mother, especially the warmth and love of her and her siblings. It's very bad for the psyche to separate any animal to early from their mother
I didn't exactly have a lot of choice in the matter, I met her when some psychopath threw her out of the window of a speeding truck and she literally hit me in the face. It was probably closer to 5 or 6 but I was just guessing at the time and never thought that hard about it. EDIT: Point being, she socializes with other animals fine, her individual mannerisms are weird and she is surprisingly very social for a cat.
I didn't really do anything, like I said some dickblister threw her out of a truck and she happened to hit me (impact broke her tail though, so she doesn't have one of those either) so I took her home and 7 and a half months later here we are.
I adopted 2 cats. A family of 3 feral cats has adopted me. Maybe I shouldn't even use the word "feral" which suggests wildness and uncontrollable. These three kittens just want to be loved and give so much love in return. They follow me around everywhere I go and chat to me all day. I'm becoming quite an expert in "cat talk".The neighbours (who adore them) and I wanted to find homes for them but I am delighted to be able to keep them together. The five cats are costing me a fortune as they demand biscuits, packets of food and other treats but also eat their way through a smoked chicken every day. I have no regrets as I love them dearly.
All these people criticizing #1 for being untrue because their cat is super affectionate...and here I am feeling excited if my cat even acknowledges my existence outside of food time.
The biggest mistake any cat owner can make is declawing the cat. It’s cruel and unnecessary. It’s barbaric. It’s selfish. It’s illegal in other countries for a reason
Declawing is NOT the worst mistake. Many owner's can not replace destroyed furniture or curtains, drapes and blinds. Then the cats are either destroyed or sent to shelters by "SAD" owner's. Human's in advanced age, can receive deep scars by non-declawed cats..., even if claws are cut regularly. Once the "front claws" only, are removed, cats are the best house pets ever. Have declawed many of my felines and all lived happily together; over 16 years each. Advice from a Senior
h.r. lawrence have you heard of just clipping? declawing is a very traumatizing experience for cats, it's like you living without your fingers. you can just clip their claws sometimes and give them stuff to scratch on, so they don't touch the furniture. people have so much ignorance and egoism when it comes to having pets.
Kittens need to be with their mums until they are at least 12 weeks old. Pedigree cats won't be given to new owners until they are a minus of 13 weeks old. Kittens should be wormed as their mums can pass worms in their milk, so my vet informed me!
@God Almighty Exactly! I've always only had one cat at a time, so they've always slept with me...one short hair and one medium hair. Not too much hair....plus I use the Fur Fetcher which gets the downy under hair....and I always use the sticky lint rollers. They would actually beg me to "rollerize" them after a brush. I have several bed spreads/blankets...so I change out every other week. Plus I'm asthmatic 😂...so I get the hair thing!!!
My cat is WAY better than any dog. First of all he doesn't shed as much, second he has learned to walk with me when i use a certain call (which helped him to know i am his owner or as i like to put it mom), third he knows when I am getting nervous or upset about something so he'll comfort me and forth he WAY softer than any dog I've ever come in contact with
Jordan Jenks mine too. I am so tired of hearing/reading that cats are not as good as dogs or not as sweet as dogs or not as faithful as dogs... Mine isn’t a solitary cat, he is always cuddling with me and gives so much love.
Excellent Video,, all that was in this vid,, is what I do. They do miss you when you are gone for a vacation. I learned that last year when I went on vacation for 2 weeks, I left her in her own environment,, along with the greatest care,,, however when I returned home, I got a welcome from my big girl that I had never seen. They are caring,,, however sometimes do not show it at all times. My Talia,, remains the QUEEN of the household.
Cats, at least domesticated breeds we have as pets, are colony animals, not pack, but not entirely solitary as their more wild cousins either. A cat is not "socially smart" as a dog is, because of two reasons. One, they are colony based, meaning they form a mutual agreement with a type of hierarchy, but it is not as strict and rigid as a dogs, it's more mutual for survival sake. Two: Cats are not top predator. While dogs can come to danger from other animals, they are not hunted actively as a food source and never really were unless they were pups. Cats however are, sometimes by wild dogs, owls etc. So they will have the instinct and drive of both prey and predator. This is why they are more instinctually driven. If you activate fight, flight, hunt etc they will be in that mode more solidly than a dog and definitely more than a human. This makes cats a lot more reactive to their surroundings and environment than dogs or humans. They have to be on alert for predators when something new is happening. This makes them less adaptable to some degree to new changes and environments. They need things familiar in scent to feel safe. This is why they groom themselves. Less because of hygiene, and more because their own scent is comforting to them. A cat whom doesn't use the litter box properly or spays in order to leave waste out in the open is an insecure cat. Desperately trying to leave their scent in places they want to find safe, but don't. If your cat is doing this, first off, see a vet. Secondly, bring favorite blankets, boxes, toys, cat trees etc in the places where they are making a mark. Cats I think are only harder to train basics like sit, stay, come etc because they are easily distracted. Again, this is due to their prey part of their nature. They are on high alert very easily. They also don't view you as boss in the same way, but family. For them, hierarchy in the way both humans and dogs form is not useful to their survival. Other than this, both animals love attention, learning new things, need stimulation both physically and mentally and are capable of never ending love. It all depends on what you put it vs what you will get out of it.
1:20 That's horrible. Toys like laser pens aren't good for cats and dogs. They have a psychological need to feel their prey under their paws and whiskers. This is frustrating for them. Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature.
I rescued a kitten 3 or 4 weeks old... It was skinny and didn't even move. It's been 5 days and he/she is very playfull.. We taught her to pee in the sandbox and she suddenly started cleaning herself.. I didn't know that was by instinct.. She eats a lot but she always demands food even if I think she had enough she starts meowing and stuff.. She is veeeeyyy veeeryy cuddly! She sits on my lap starts licking herself and my hand(I guess a sign of love.
My cat don't vomit hair balls. never given her a medicine for them. I also didn't realise i needed to (my vet didn't mention it either) what kind of medicine should i give her for it?
The products referred to in the video aren't necessarily medicine. There are certain products or special feeds which can help reduce the likelihood of hairballs. These include malt paste which cats often enjoy eating. It's more important for long-haired cats as they are more prone to hairballs. Ask your vet for some advice on specific products.
Vaccines and flea medication should be used strategically and minimally in my opinion. There are risks and consequences involved with both. Use a flea comb to easily check for fleas regularly. If you see 1 flea, increase the flea combing and ramp up on vacuuming. Then consider the possible flea treatments.
Kirstine Eibye Elgaard Christiansen Same here, only my sweet girl Star just turned 12 years old. The only thing we have done is get her spayed, and that's only because she got an infection in her uterus and if they didn't remove it it would have killed her. Still don't know what caused the infection, but I'm thankful it was caught and she's still here. I've raised her from birth, literally, and she's my world.
Our kitty was a feral born and the runt of the litter. She must have been 6 weeks when the mom got hit by a car and came to my SO for help. She’s the most annoying cat ever and my life would be too quiet without her.
I'd like to add that it is a common mistake to feed cats "continuously", e.g. leaving the filled bowl all day so the cat can eat as much as it wants. Defined mealtimes are much preferable, considering behavior, weight and other issues.
I have to disagree. Cats much prefer to eat a bit of food now, then a bit again later, etc, not a lot at once. Also, I'm not sure about cats, but at least in dogs, set mealtimes can cause quite a few problems. If they get their food at the same time every day, they'll start producing digestion enzymes at _that exact time_. You're late from work one day? Well, poor pup now has a pretty bad stomach ache because he's trying to digest food that's not there yet. And it might well be similar for cats. Obviously, that's different depending on the cat's characters. Ours only eat as much as they need, then leave. If you have a glutton who'll eat himself to death, then yeah, you need to limit how much food the cat has access to.
Kalu-chan, I think you're half right. Most cats do prefer to graze (i.e: eat slowly throughout the day), but they should still be limited in the amount of food they can eat each day. Some cats don't have an issue, and will only eat as much as they need to. However, some cats will eat more than they need to simply because the food is unavailable. This can be caused by a number of things - lack of hunting, boredom/lack of stimulation, or the instinct to eat as much as they can when they can because they don't know when their next meal will be. There are a number of ways that you can maintain healthy eating habits for your cat, and not all of them include feeding them at the same time. What's important is that you monitor what your cat is eating, how much they're eating from day to day, & how much exercise they get. Some of these ways include: leaving a set amount of food out for the day and not refilling once the bowl is empty. Having a cat bowl that dispenses a set amount of food each time your cat approaches, up to a certain amount. Using interactive cat bowls that provide stimulation and mimic hunting. Setting out a small amount of food several times a day. Among other options. It is always recommended that you talk to your vet about how much your cat should be eating.
That's why I said if you have a cat who doesn't limit themselves, you need to do so. All of our cats stop eating when they've had enough, and none of them are overweight, so we can do that. If we had a cat who just kept eating, we'd obviously do things differently ^^
I dunno it depends on the kitty. I controlled feeding times when they were but my kitties are a good weight and they always have a food bowl. Theyre active, constantly playing.. They nibble through out the day. Theyre extremely loving, affectionate and well behaved... And they dont wake me to feed them at 5am now😁
Also worth mentioning, cheap cat food is GMO (soaked in herbicide) and derived from industrial farming byproducts. Pets suffer the same chronic illnesses that humans do heart disease, cancer, diabetes and autoimmune disease. Please feed your pet high quality food, which will reduce chronic diseases in my opinion.
I have a little kitten my sister brought from highschool, she was tiny and got an eye infection. We named her peach, Thankfully now she is happy and active. She likes bothering my older cat and sleeping on my chest. ❤
chokinonashes61 I seem to have found a lot of these videos that are educational for the absolute complete dummy. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't make us think 'jeez, you mean to say people are getting cats and not knowing any of this?'
It IS a mistake. I cant tell you how many people i know that approach a cat and act like they are playing with a dog. Its the reason i dont let my little cousin anywhere near my cat. Its a common mistake
2:00 I agree, but we found FIVE abandoned kitties that were about 10 days old in the woods near our house, so we had no other choice but to feed them ourselves :-/ We gave them "fake" cat milk and they hated it, so we started giving them goat milk which they LOVED. We already had a dog and we never ever thought of bringing a cat in, let alone five, but hey, you can never know what the future has in store for you! now there are only 3 left (we gave one away when she was old enough while another one died 1 day after rescuing them) and they're the sweetest! i swear I love them and I had no idea cats could be so playful haha
I get Frontline for my cats and Bravecto for my dogs, but their vet just told me that soon there will be chewable Bravecto for cats. I'm really happy about that. We get so many ticks sometimes, it's horrible! Luckily the cats have never had ticks but the dogs have. I just can't bear them having to put up with that for longer than a minute, so I give them both prevention medicine. It'll be spring soon. I'm hoping there will be Bravecto for cats then.
For gods sake: Do not scratch a cat, stroke it gently with the palm of your open hand. And don’t exert a lot of pressure while petting them. Don’t bombard your cat with hurried stroking, take your time and watch your cats reaction instead. The poor cats here!
my cat doesn't like stroking over the whole of the back. he'll walk away if you do that. but he loves scratches behind the ears. I guess every cat is different, and you just have to listen to their body language to see what they like.
Okay well my cat loves deep tissue massage since I have been a massage therapist for 17 years and of course you start off with a couple of minutes and not real deep make it light but when he starts to trust you you can go a little deeper in a little deeper they're just like humans it's all about trust and my cat loves it when I scratch it his low back next to his tail nobody else can do it just me
Adopt a cat because they need it. It's not about you. It's about what's best for them. #AdoptDontShop #OptToAdopt Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature.
@ Ben Tarr Wow... "Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature" I will be blunt as you were, you are a fucking idiot. If you value human life the same as a cat or dog or a fish? #FUCK YOU # Mental Care can be cheap for an animal as yourself.
I’ve been a cat owner for 19 years. My first cat I had her for 12 years and she was an outside cat. Then I had my two other cats inside but I’ve never had any issues with any of them. Right now my cat stardust is an angel lol she doesn’t do much but run around the house like crazy but I don’t mind it. She passes her energy to me somehow lol.
If you're like me you build up a tollerance to them over time. I got hives at first but it got better and now it only really gets me when he bunts my face and his hair gets near my eyes.
Great info and all spot on.With cats you have to take them as they are, most people who are new just don't understand that everything is on the cats terms, not theirs! Only one thing i would add,for a kitten to be PROPERLY socialized to humans its CRUCIAL it gets handled in the first 3 weeks a fair bit, otherwise they are never likley to become fully tame.I laugh when i see people who don't know this but have a cat that was properly socialized and they think its special in some way (dog in a cats body is what i see a lot!) because all the others they have come across are not properly socialized with humans in that crucial first few weeks. A properly socialized cat should come when called and actively seek out humans most of the time, if they pretty well just use you for food and shelter they are not properly socialized.Yes they are all a bit different but ive experienced enough cats to KNOW this is %95 true, there was the odd one who just never really did socialize though, always the scarediest one that held back when the others came running for pats. Ive cared for dozens of strays,re-homing suitable ones and practicing TNR on the the others. When i could get to kittens early they ALL became properly socialized and got snapped up by their very own humans. If mum had kittens where i couldn't either get to them because of location or could access property (this was in an industrial estate) by the time they big enough to follow mum to the food, it was pretty well to late.I have decades of ownership by cats and a sister who's not only a vet but feline behavioral specialist so I am considerably more qualified to comment than the average person who has had contact with a much smaller sample pool of cats than i have!
When they said “in the spring and summer months a male cat might try and flee the house suspecting there is another female cat in heat near by, or become aggressive with other males.” I really felt that...
It's very annoying that she said that cats aren't obedient... my cat literally comes to me every time I whistle or call his name. All 4 of my cats are clean and always use there litter tray..and they eat out of there own dishes all the time. I have the most amazing moggys and they're so loyal and well behaved.
reba kows That's how my sweet girl Star is too. She is just as sweet, cuddly, and beautiful now as she was when she was a kitten. She's my baby and my whole world. Words can't describe how much I love her or how much she means to me. I've had her since birth, literally, and she just turned 12 years old on May 1st of this year.
"or do you already live with one and think you're making a mistake" *Turns around to stare at my cat who's currently trying to chase his tail before falling off the couch*

I always say he didn't get the memo. Lol

Easily the worst mistake.
And illegal in most countries.
And will be soon in Quebec! :D
Avely Lancaster :D
Iris Chen it's to take off the claws, i don't know how to explain in english, but it's painful for the cat
And they have no way to protect themselves when they're outside if they don't have their front claws.
#1 - A cat is not a dog. Don't expect them to be like a dog.
Cat of my grandma barks, aport things and loves dog food. And yes, we checked if that cat is not actualy dog. Twice.
I had a cat that acted like a dog. He was very sweet and friendly, followed me around, and stayed close to home.
How we keep cats in their box house if they (cats) hvnot this habbit ?
Julie Nielsen, Well,...What if the Cat/Kitten is a PuppyCat? PuppyCats are awesome! I’ve had one or two during my adult life. Great fun, having a PuppyCat follow me everywhere in my apartment, sleeps with me, or on me. Love regular Cats too.
My queen ant acts like a cat. 🐜🐜🐜🐜👑👸🐜🐜🐜🐜🙀🐈🐈🙋🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃
Akylah Taylor Good point, although I want to make sure it's clear that I had nothing to do with declawing them.
Clipping their claws every few weeks isn’t declawing is it?
Give the cat a break-away collar.
collars, like chipping are important incase of escape, thats why cat collars are designed to detatch if to much pull is on them.
Emily Neu agreed, mine love fetch and often bring toys to get me to throw. And know several commands.
Aww! What's your cat's name?
Dog: They feed me, clean me, and play with me. They must be Gods
Cat: They feed me, clean me, and play with me. I must be God
please stop, cats do not think of themselves as gods, because they give us ''food'', which is mice and birds. they actually treat us as cat mothers bruh...unlike dogs who ''pant pant pant'' for food which can cause obesity. i'm not saying i hate dogs though, because of the *d o g g o, b e p i s, c h e e m s,* and *b o o p i s,* so please don't whoop my ass.

Congratulations! You are a better cat owner than half the cat owners out there by going out of your way to learn how to be more responsible!

@@salmabereniceechegarayocho7162 I couldn't imagine a house without cats.

Awww babes I'm sorry that you lost yourself fur baby. I understand how you feel. 🥹🥹
Fera Flauna thank you for your story!
Cats definitely do show unconditional love... a lot of this sounded very bias.
many people dont give cats the time they need to warm up to a human, because dogs tend to warm up quicker. it took months for one of my cats to come sit next to me, but once he did he never left.
give them a proper cat scratcher so they can wear down their nails and take frustration out on that vs people or precious furniture.

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff
My cat rides in the car with me co driver!!!
sue murphy yeah, some cats are way more playful and love doing weird things, I’ve noticed it’s mostly males.
our cat basically adopted us lmfao he just walked up to our porch one day and i fed him and ever since then he's been with us
Another thing people might want to try if they want to get their cat's attention is to speak to them in a higher pitched voice, since cats' ears are more attuned to higher pitched noises (think mice, for example). It's not that cats are always rude, they may actually not notice we're talking to them!

My cats smell so clean.and they never go poop or pee on the floor, always in their litter box, cats are clean they clean themselves on a daily basis
dogs smell awful a few days after being washed.
cats almost never smell
What moster would take a kitten away from its mom at a month! That's way to early!
I found a cat in the dumpster when she was around 3-4 weeks, I took care of her. Does it make me a bad person? >.
Cat people: I like dogs too, but I prefer cats.
Dog people: CATS ARE EVIL, GET RID OF THESE DEMONIC OVERLORDS!!!!
Laughing Fox nah that’s not true, I’m more a dog person but I’m adopting a cat soon. I love both dogs and cats
@@bigboi9711 they meant MOST dog people lol. I’m a both person and I’m getting a kitten soon :)

PS The best video for someone who understands cats is called "How I trained my cat". It shows absolutely how with the right amount of attention and love a cat can be so much more than people who don't own cats may think. It's all about respect and understanding!
I got my cat in 2001 and she’s only passed away this last week.. she was so old ❤️
I am sorry I could not comply with not adopting too young. I found my cat on the street when he was a little kitten. He was alone and wounded and would die if I didn't take him to the vet and treated him. But I completely agree that babies should stay with mommies as mucu as they can.
Agata Santos I dont think rescues count in that case. Otherwise the kitten would probably die.
Same here, my cat was rescued by me when she was really tiny, I think no more than 6 or 7 weeks. In these cases I think the rule don't apply.
You did a great thing. I took my kitty from the street, she was so thin & dirty it was obvious no-one was caring for her. Now she has the best life & is so strongly bonded to me it's amazing.
Same with mine
[There are more but I think that I got the most (if not all) the major ones and that you all get the point.]
Again, declawing a cat is equivalent to de-fingering/de-toeing a human being and there still being at least some open wounds: How do you think that that would affect you not only physically, but psychologically and emotionally?
Please consider safe, humane, non-permanent, and painless alternatives, and if you ever seriously consider declawing a cat, then please consider rehoming it instead. Ultimately, educate yourself on cats before getting and consider whether you can and will care for the cat's needs properly and humanely. If you cannot or will not, then don't get one; you will be doing yourself and the cat a huge favor.
Please be nice and a fair to the animals which we share a planet with and have a nice day and life.
Thanks for reading!

Thank you!
Why is declaring even a thing in the first place right why are people so rude
My cat is sterilized and he has access to a food 24/7 and he isn’t gaining weight. I found him when he was idk maybe 3 weeks old and wow I bet you’ve never seen such a cutie pie in your life.
I already screwed up... Mine gets what she wants when she wants it... I may or may not have spoiled her. Not to mention her need for always needing attention. However i love her and i love that my kitty is so affectionate
Love how they get directly to the point
Thank You for posting! best friends never fail, especially those with paws and a tail.
My cat likes to be picked up and carried lol he will climb up to my shoulder meowing lol
Meghan Sullivan that is so cute😂
Meghan Sullivan one of my cats also. He usually does it when I come home.
Shoulder cat.
Is he a ragdoll
My cat died at 7 months due to liquids building up around the abdominal area. I feel bad because we obviously weren't prepared to have a cat. Not only that, we couldn't afford the vet. From this I learned that you absolutley have to be prepared to have a cat no matter what. Rest in peace Camo❤
Thank you so much for promoting veterinary care!

My wife and I have a cat named Mini-Me, He's so sweet and is totally my wife's cat. But their is a small problem.
We got him fixed like 9 yrs ago and he thinks he can still... Ummm yeah that thing. We have a young female called Bitz. ( I call her my little Itty bitty kitten committee.)
And EVERY morning he starts calling her and yeah It feels a tad odd to say, DUDE YOU CAN'T DO THAT ANYMORE! JUST ACCEPT IT.
Our ten-year-old started doing "that" again about two years ago....of course, all to no avail, but he's happy.
Please never adopt a cat younger than 10-12 weeks! It needs that time to learn social behaviour, how to clean themselves,... from mother/siblings!
I dunno, I got mine at 3 weeks and she did fine. Just take the time and give a shit about them and they're fine.
Jack Ream wwhaaaaat that sounds so crazy! Who would do that :( but amazing that you saved her :)
The worst thing you can do is to allow your cat to roam the neighborhood.
Agreed. If your cat is scratching, then just keep its claws properly trimmed so that they won't be too sharp.
“Generally more independent than dogs”
My cat is very unusual then😂
Hate to be disagreeable....all my cats have been EXTREMELY faithful and attached to my hip🥰
I pick up my very 1st kitten of my own tomorrow! I've been doing so much research in the last week since she was a surprise from my fiance last week.
Tomorrow my cat adoption is going through so today I'm just watching cat videos lol
Well my dog doesn’t shed at all soooo... ahem ur opinion
My cat has learned more tricks than any dog I know has learned...

I have 2 16 year old cats. My other one died a few years back. These cats are amazing.
All i see is bullshit cat downing here.
Cats are NOT prey normally. Sure domesticated ones might be but lions? Nah
Thoughtful and well put.
Hello Sherry, How are you doing?
Impressive presentation, AnimalWIsed 👍
Looks so wonderful! 💯
Keep up the great work Friend!
Have a pleasant evening!
AnimalWised yes my cat is a long haired tuxedo cat. Thanks for letting me know I’ll contact my vet
Malt paste is helpful? Good to know! I don't like the anti-hairball-treats. ;-)
You're supposed to give the treats to your cat, not eat them yourself! ;)
Well, I don't want my cats to see me barfing hairballs, so I need to have right treatment either!
Vaccines and flea medication should be used strategically and minimally in my opinion. There are risks and consequences involved with both. Use a flea comb to easily check for fleas regularly. If you see 1 flea, increase the flea combing and ramp up on vacuuming. Then consider the possible flea treatments.
hoovering and in your case vacuuming lol doesn't rid a place of fleas
So many guidelines and my cat needs none. It's turning 11 in a month and has never had problems with any of this.
I've had my cat nearly a year now and we're still in the bonding period which I've got to say is rewarding and beautiful ❤️
Very useful informations ❤❤❤
Our kitty was a feral born and the runt of the litter. She must have been 6 weeks when the mom got hit by a car and came to my SO for help.
She’s the most annoying cat ever and my life would be too quiet without her.
Kittens should be with their mothers until 12 weeks old, no shorter unless orphaned
Given that most cats are overweight, I don't put much weight on what cats prefer regarding distinct meals.
We named her peach,
Thankfully now she is happy and active. She likes bothering my older cat and sleeping on my chest. ❤
This is for people who are so stupid, they should not allowed near any warm blooded animal.

I agree, thanks captain obvious! I am less aware of cats then I was b4
Agreed. This video is rubbish.
chokinonashes61 I seem to have found a lot of these videos that are educational for the absolute complete dummy. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't make us think 'jeez, you mean to say people are getting cats and not knowing any of this?'
Gotta learn from somewhere, you're not born knowing how to care for a cat ffs
I moved out of my parents house and I miss my cat. 💔
First mistake is NOT a mistake
Lexi San Diego How do you know its for amusment purposes only? It doesnt state that in the description of at the end of the video
Cats and Dogs are not the same
Cats may have different personality traits but they are NOT dogs.
@Lexi San Diego Wow, take a step back yall, we got Einstein over here
It IS a mistake.
For gods sake:
Do not scratch a cat, stroke it gently with the palm of your open hand.
And don’t exert a lot of pressure while petting them.
Don’t bombard your cat with hurried stroking, take your time and watch your cats reaction instead.
The poor cats here!
Celisar1 my kitties love scratches and fast pats
Every cat is different. My cat loves neck scritchens and back scritchens, just petting him is boring for both of us.
my cat doesn't like stroking over the whole of the back. he'll walk away if you do that. but he loves scratches behind the ears. I guess every cat is different, and you just have to listen to their body language to see what they like.

Yes, each cat is different but you can also tickle/ scratch a cat GENTLY at its favourite places and not so much work like a kitchen mixer...
Okay well my cat loves deep tissue massage since I have been a massage therapist for 17 years and of course you start off with a couple of minutes and not real deep make it light but when he starts to trust you you can go a little deeper in a little deeper they're just like humans it's all about trust and my cat loves it when I scratch it his low back next to his tail nobody else can do it just me
I’m planning on adopting a kitty. This is great information
Adopt a cat because they need it. It's not about you. It's about what's best for them.

Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature.
@ Ben Tarr Wow... "Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature" I will be blunt as you were, you are a fucking idiot. If you value human life the same as a cat or dog or a fish? #FUCK YOU # Mental Care can be cheap for an animal as yourself.
I didn't listen to a word she said . Just look at the adooooorable cats . So cute!
Cats are better than dogs *^* they are also more healthy
Do you already own one?
Me: I I own three cats......
Anyone else researching cats even tho allergic?
🙋♀️
"A common mistake cat owners make: Cats are not dogs"... Yeah, that's the point, right? 🤔 😅
IDK about this video...... unless I have 'defective' cats they are very protective and need me.... not independent..... also affectionate
reba kows That's how my sweet girl Star is too. She is just as sweet, cuddly, and beautiful now as she was when she was a kitten. She's my baby and my whole world. Words can't describe how much I love her or how much she means to me. I've had her since birth, literally, and she just turned 12 years old on May 1st of this year.
Thank you for the info.... I'm planning to get a cat and I need some info and this is so useful.... Lots of love from Maldives ❤️
"or do you already live with one and think you're making a mistake"
*Turns around to stare at my cat who's currently trying to chase his tail before falling off the couch*
The biggest mistake that cats owners do is watching videos like this one.
it tortures me watching this without having cat :(
*watching this while my cat is sleeping on my hip*
I love their independence and being affectionate at the same time. 😻
