I have a cat named “Qua” and he used to be nice to me, like, he used to always approach me. But lately, he's starting to be scared of me lol and like when I have food, he will look at me with his beautiful eyes. And basically, the only thing that can make me touch him is feeding him a LOT of delicious foods. So yeah, idk why he doesn't approach me anymore like he used to 🤷♀️
I adopted a "non-adoptable" cat (my favorite kind) from a shelter. She had been raised by her mom under a bridge and never had any human contact. I brought her home and no lie, it took one YEAR for her to let me pet her. I never tried to make her pay attention to me. But one day, I was sitting on my bed, petting my other cat and she was on top of the closet, watching. My other cat walked away and she jumped down from the closet onto the bed, walked right over and let me pet her. We were best friends after that. :)
@@roxannesmith9219 Well thanks but it was up to her. lol I figured if she wanted to live with me for the rest of her life, never having contact with me, that was okay. As long as I knew she was warm, safe, well-fed, healthy and clean, I had no problem with her doing her own thing, forever, if that's the way she wanted it. And she was in LOVE with my other cat, so she had "family." And then she adopted me into her family. lol
There's nothing that makes you feel cooler than a cat choosing you. Seriously, it feels as though you've won 1st prize at something. Because in my experience, cats don't automatically see you as a friend. But when they do, it makes you feel so special.
This is true! A couple months ago, I was outside working on some things for the race car. I noticed one of the neighborhood ferals watching me from a distance. Thought nothing of it really, since ferals tend to be very solitary. Later that afternoon, I was sitting in a lawn chair when that same feral came very close to me. I reached down and he backed away for a second. Next thing I knew, he was bunting me and inviting me to pet his head. Then he started purring and "asking" for more attention. He even followed me on to the porch and proceeded to stretch out on the steps and take a nap. At that moment, I felt like that I had just been "adopted" by this feral cat. What a cool feeling! This guy hung around my place for a few weeks. I would come home from work and there he would be on the steps, napping away, waiting for me to come home. Sometimes he even wanted to come in the house, but I wasn't quite ready to let him in yet. i think animal control might have come through the neighborhood or something. One day I noticed that my feral feline friend was not coming around anymore. Also noticed that most of the ferals around the neighborhood seem to be gone. I miss him, but for a couple of weeks, I was his "adoptee", and I will not soon forget him.
the first time i saw my cat(my cousins acually) he was always active but diffrent he was always active... AROUND MEE! he always purred and now he relaxes purrs and more! the only confusing thing:i touch his nose to greet hi he walks away and stays a few seconds then comes back.right now he is on the table.
A cat was like that to me recently We are moving away and I wanted to take him with me but now he’s missing He was the smallest cat in a group of 5 and my mom says it might’ve been eaten by the older cats IM WORRIED ABOUT HIM WHERE US HE 😭
I can't even go to the bathroom without them screaming because they're alone... I'm a stay at home wife. So I'm home with them a lot. Going out to visit my mom is a nightmare. I have to take them if not they get out the house.
I have a friend which smells kinda funny, let's say he has very strong BO, and whenever he is around my cats they go crazy around him, rubbing against him, licking him, and jumping on him. It might have to do with something coming from his sweat, they don't act like this with anyone else..Is like he is using some catnip perfume 🤣
I adopted a cat that had been shut in a kitchen since she was separated from her mum. She was terrified of every single noise in a normal home and hid on top of a bookcase. Then one day she came into the living room and say next to me. Then on my lap. I was talking to her softly, then the cutest thing happened - she reached up and touched my face. She then curled up on my lap and purred as I petted her. From that moment on we were best buds! She lived until she was 15😘😥
Don't touch their bellies unless you know them well. My friend pet a cat's belly after the cat displayed it and got a swift scratch. She has a scar 10 years later.
My older cat was kinda cold to me for a while, so I gave more love to my younger cat. The older cat responded by now she wakes me at daybreak everyday for the past few months by vigorously licking any exposed skin with her cold, wet gross tongue. The younger cat now stomps around on me to wake me up before the old one does. My mornings are awesome.
There's this intimidating but cute male cat who doesn't approach anyone or likes any interaction but he always likes to be with me and I feel so supreme and loved hehe
I’ve had cats all my life (mostly female) but the one I have now (a male) has to be the most loving cat I’ve ever seen. He purrs all the time and stays on my lap almost every time I’m sitting. When I leave the house he watches out the window like I’m abandoning him. I feel so honored to be loved by this sweet Korat cat. 💖🐈⬛💖🐈⬛💖
Hi stephanie I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this compliment. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌹🌹
My mother always preferred male cats. As an adult male, i have always preferred female cats, and only one at a time. I'm on my 2nd and I'm amazed how similar both are. While independent, they both would walk the property with me. Great hunters as well.
1) let the cats approach you first 2) pet them where they enjoy the most 3) check your scent 4) approach them like a cat 5) mimic feline scents (cat pheromone sprays) 6) human interaction 7) don't block the exits 8) blink slowly, but don't stare 9) retreat at the right time 10) use treats strategically
My cat love belly rubs, but he's the only cat I've ever had that enjoys having his stomach touched lol. He's a lil different though, he also plays fetch 😂
Or mine lol. They’re wrong on a few things like this one and the tummy petting since one of mine doesn’t mind that either and there are other kitties who also don’t mind. Also the personal space thing, some kitties won’t give US personal space as someone mentioned in a comment haha.
I was living in the garage and a sickly blind cat came in smelling my food, I gave it some. It returned the next day for more. She was a feral cat and didn’t trust me. I closed the garage door in her, and gave her some chicken gravy. She allowed me to pet her for a good while. When she learned I was friendly I opened the door to let her know she’s free to leave. She left with a full belly and content. Never saw her again but that next day there was a baby that looked similar to her in my U-Haul probably 3 weeks old at most. She’s my partner now healthy and adventurous. I had never seen other kittens my theory is they died due to malnutrition from a mother that couldn’t provide and she brought me the last one in hopes that I would take her in as my own. I love her so much and I miss her mom. I feel blessed every time I spend time with her. Her name is Quetzal named after the Aztec god of life and wisdom ❤ my girlfriend named her with no knowledge of the significance of the name.
When my cat was a couple weeks old I had no boundaries I picked him up and kissed him whenever I liked, literally smothered him and I continued to do it every day even while he’s an adult. He cuddle me all the time, lays on my chest and listens to everything I say. He’s the best cat ever
@@Cramretep she does that to me toooo! 🤗🤗🤗its sosweet right. Ive just adopted her since new years.. We sleep in the same bed every night. Im so filled with love... Only problem on this is about health, dont think it is good for the resoitory system >< i heard it can manifest into a bad condition.
@@bimsbeauty hey love I don’t believe that’s true if you’re doing fine now then you’re good, my kitty sleeping on my chest rn that’s the only respiratory issue I have is I can’t breath with a cat on my chest!
Hm, i cant completely agree because of my cat. Shes a Siberian Forest cat, she is super hyperactive and yes, she likes doing what she wants, but she is smart and can understand some stuff. When i want to rest and pet her and not run around a house with her, she will actually do what i want. Yesterday i sprained my ankle, it hurt like a btch, and when she saw me limping she was looking at my leg and checking me like wtf did you do. Its a 2nd day shes giving me attention and resting with me. Makes you wonder what are they thinking.
My late cat (R.I.P) used to do that and I looked it up online and actually if your cat keeps asking for food even tho you gave her like a million times a day then probably that cat is depressed. So may be that's the case.
I have 2 cats, both rescues. One is very sociable and absolutely loves having his tail pulled and being dragged over the floor (nothing abusive in this ; he really does love it). The other is very shy and won't leave my bedroom when other people are here. However, he adores being petted, especially on his tummy; I only need to say "tickle tums" and he rolls over to let me pet this area. Proof that each cat is different !!!!
I've seen too many angry cat videos in recent years. People seem to be annoying their cats just for making videos, or even just getting a cat (because the internet is ruled by cats) without knowing how to care for them.
the internet has truly ruined humanity. I never understood this obsessive need for attention. people eating poison and sticking their heads into microwaves for views? I know some people can make some money off of it but honestly 99.999% are doing stupid shit for the attention.
@@pinkegg3179 People can do what ever the hell they pleace .GOOD ! i was talking animal abuse ,what goes UN-checked in youtube and elsewhere.. And they even get commercial . So its corporate sponsored behaviour !!!
My cats LOVE being petted near their tail. I trained one to ring a bell every time he wanted me to pet him there. I had to hide the bell because he was ringing it all the time. Now he just yells at me to do it.
My cat is pretty much a dog trapped in a cat body. If he isn't in a lap, snuggling, cuddling, or curled up next to me or the kids, he is most likely eating or using the litter box. He also LOVES getting his belly scratched and hugs & kisses. He even licks back. Got him 5 years ago as a fathers day gift from my oldest daughter. He is absolutely the gift that keeps on giving. Love him to pieces.
Aww he sounds so cute. But actually it matters what the breed is.. For example, my cats are British shorthairs which means that they are lap cats. My cats go on leads and know high five. They are real dogs lol.
@Goth Vaush - Jedi Master Engineer bruh this is cringe af Pro tip: relating anything to Star Wars that doesn’t have anything to do with it is most likely going to get you bullied
I regularly use the nose-to-hand touch and I promise it works wonders. I get more positives when I pet them post a cheek rub than going and trying to pet them. If I go to pet the cat even if they turned away, they will indeed try to leave. They like their personal space, and even the ones that love you enjoy a friendly nose-to-hand touch and be able to decide to engage or not. Works best if you turn your side or back to an unfamiliar cat as you hold out your hand. Edit: don't hold prolonged eye contact, and instead if you manage to catch their gaze blink slowly. That's a cat's way of saying "I like you and I trust you." Don't be offended if they don't blink back; sometimes they get irritated if you do it too many times in a row, or if you're a stranger they won't yet trust you.
My host family has four cats, and one of them is a very sensitive 13 year old female who rarely likes people. The sensitivity is partially due to an old injury on her back. I got her to like me by being gentle and calm and letting her call the shots, and avoiding her back until she herself moved in such a way that I touched it while petting her. Now she's my friend. One time she got into my room and hid under my bed. When my host family's son went to coax her out she wouldn't come, but when I did it she came to me right away. It was a really good feeling.
@@AlphaTengua A host family is a family who take you in for a while when you can't live with your own for whatever reason but you are not in the foster care system. Mostly the term is used for families that take in foreign exchange students and let them live with them while they attend their studies. In my case I'm using it to refer to the family friends who let me live with them until my baby brother got his own place and moved out of Mom's spare bedroom, allowing me to move in. I had been previously living with Dad, but he lost the house and we had to vacate.
Same. As soon as they hear the opening of the drawer where their dry food is kept, they come running. In the past I had a cat who was extremely food motivated. She would try to steal food from you regardless of what it was you were eating. She would steal food or scavenge food dropped by my young child. She would wail and cry constantly while I prepared dinner, regardless of what I was making. We were having it, therefore she wanted some too. I miss that nutcase.
My cat always comes running to kitchen when I open the bread. Not because he wants that, but because he know I'll usually get out the turkey next to make a sandwich. He stared at me with such cold fury the first time I instead made buttered toast.
I have a 1 year old cat who will be 2 in about 4 months and she LOVES food. If there is anything on the table like mash potato, chicken, tuna, sushi , gravy etc... (I even once saw her eat broccoli) she'll coming running at top speed to the table and try eating everyone's food, if we don't let her she cries for so long it becomes unbearable. She still likes dry food but doesn't have the same reaction to when we are filling it. My other cat who is 2 years old doesn't have an interest in food though, she doesn't like wet food and will just have dry food.
My ginger Ninja is 21yr old,He's been with us long enough to completely trust anyone that opens the fridge door for him..he loves us,but nothing like he loves our beds or meals 🤣He's still fit and healthy and continues to amaze his vets...bugger will probably outlive me..
When you see a cat staring at you, catch its eyes for a second, then give a long, slow blink and then look away as if you are dismissing them as harmless and irrelevant. Then ignore them and do your thing. It works every time. They’ll be all up in your face in no time.
Ik I have a kitty named Marshmallow and he was looking me in the eyes but I gave him slow but quick blinks and he put his paw on my face, i thought he was going to attack me but ig he was just sniffing me. He is the most adorable cat I’ve played with. 🥰
I don't like cats, but I don't dislike them either. One time a strange cat snuck into my car. (I got a pic) Sat shotgun and pretended as if it was on a commute. I got inside, closed the door, and there we sat for 10 minutes without any interaction. Cats are weird. Edit. I just realised I broke several points in the video. Lol
My cat was a feral kitten. She grew up with a French bulldog as a mom. They're best friends but luci learned alot of dog traits. Definitely the most food oriented cat ever seen. She goes ballistic if she sees the food scoop
It's true, my buddy lives with his mother and they have 11 cats. They don't really like anyone because there's so many in one house, that said they all love me for some reason.
A friend of my parents was alergic to cats. Yet she would go out of her way to pick up cats, rubbing her nose in their fur and sniffing them as if they were cocaïne. And then she had to take a dose of anti-histamine. Worth it, she proclaimed.
The slow blinking works so well. Everytime I meet a new cat I lye down on the floor and do it and they’re immediately more comfortable with me then anyone else around me
"cats don't like to be smothered with affection and need some personal space every now and then" My cat: *always in the same room as me and LOVES to be smothered with affection*
I don't think there's one particular way to win over a cat. Like humans, they have different personalities, so different cats will be won over in different ways
I absolutely agree. Use the word "Character" instead of this ugly word "Personalities", baahhhh, I hate that word! We are humans! not persons! Actors are persons!
I think I cracked this code….Just love ❤ them. They will love you back every time, day in, day out. And, it’s great. Did it with two kittens. Mine loved to be petted BUT only when they come to me to be petted and not busy being cats…
I've done the blinking technique for years with my cat,... and she actually responds by blinking back at me. That's how I'll know she's relaxed and in a good mood.
When he said cats are not very food motivated I laughed out loud. My cat is obsessed with food, dives on plates, breaks into his food cuboard, only comes home when we shake his treats at the door😂
Exactly, and when I have a cup of water and turn around for a minute, they start drinking it it which makes me laugh so much when their heads get stuck in the cup. If I give them any food they just keeps on eating and even when there are no more treats left they always want more. 😂
@@automaticninjaassaultcat3703 Yeah cats are very good at keeping healthy weight. Most of them anyways. They are trickle feeders in nature. But you can change their behavior if you change their feeding habits. On the other hand... you have to consider, cats in wilderness would probably barely live till their 10 year. If your cat wants to live past 15, it can't really live "natural way".
I have two cats one likes to be carry on all the time and let us rub his belly. The other one is very shy and only let us touch him when he wants. When I am working on my computer both of them jump on the desk and lay down on the key board and the other on my notebooks. It is when I know I will go to be very late cuz can resist to play with them.
I think, what a lot of people miss, is that you use a lot of the same strategies for all animals. The way you approach a dog or a cat is actually remarkably similar, but dogs tend to be bred to be gregarious, so they're more willing to forgive breeches in etiquette. Letting the animal come to you, moving calmly, and respecting the animal's space will usually make you popular with both dogs and cats.
That worked with a puppy of a friend I stayed with a couple years ago - he was very sheltered but friendly once he got over it. I used the cat approach simply bc that's basically all I know. Within a day he was happily napping in the same room as me, and then started a tradition of coming up to my armchair and dropping his head on my lap to be scritched. He still has problems (mostly bc his owners' hands are pretty full and he's not given enough socialization) but I got the honor of being his first non-owner human fren
I haven't noticed that. Dogs are indeed very gregarious which is why so many people like them. They're super-friendly and will happily slobber all over you and try to hump your leg a couple minutes after meeting you :) Cats are stand-offish at first and they spook very easily. When meeting a new human a cat's primary concern is whether or not we're going to try to eat it.
@@devilsoffspring5519 I'm not sure how to say this kindly, but I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how these animals work. Yes, dogs do trend towards being more outgoing, but dogs are not a monolith, and assuming that all dogs are happy to see you, especially when you are a potential invader in their home (remember, dogs are also bred and trained to be fiercely defensive) is a great ticket to the ER. I'm glad you've had largely positive experiences with dogs in the past, truly, but you can't afford to take for granted the way these animals will react in any situation, even dogs you have a lot of experience with.
@@TheLolrider You're probably right, in my 46 years I've just always noticed that dogs are almost always ready to slobber all over you and cats are always waiting to maul you :) I love cats, they're lovable little ones but VERY feisty and aggressive if they don't know you and trust you. Cats spook more easily than dogs do around people they don't know.
@@devilsoffspring5519 I'm sorry, I hope I didn't come across as overly rude. You're absolutely right that dogs and cats tend to behave differently, but they have more similarities than people often give them credit for. It's always good to be careful around an animal you aren't familiar with, especially if they're giving you bad vibes.
Cat: “You have gained my trust, human. I will now expose my soft, sensitive belly, for you’d never touch it. I love yo-“ Human: “lmao belly SQUEEZE” Cat: “AAAAARGH BETRAYAL I TRUSTED YOUUUUUUUU”
It is actually possible to safely pet some cats' bellies. You just need to take it slow and listen to their body language. If they show their belly, start with cheek scritchies, then move down to gentle chest rubs between their forelegs. If they don't like it, they'll push your hand away, normally quite gently. If they don't push you away, you can move a little further down until you're rubbing the belly. Just go slow and gentle, and listen when they talk. I'm owned by four cats; two of them refuse belly rubs, one occasionally accepts them, and one absolutely adores them and will sprawl out begging for belly rubbins regularly.
That’s what the 2 previous cats of my parents have always done though. At first it wasn’t directly a sign of trust for me because they didn’t know me so well but after a while and lots of treats and petting later they gained my trust and let me pet them on their belly.
@@Echo-jf6cm they're not talking about stray cats. Most stray cats are fetal and tend to avoid people, you're also not locked in a house together with them. You're just passing by If you're in a room with a cat the cat might seek you out
I always build trust and affection with my cats by touching their belly. And I don't mean petting their belly, just touching it. If they lay with me I always put my hand in their belly and I don't know why but so far it has worked for all my cats and made them way more affectionate
"They don't like to be smothered with affection" Me, whose cat always runs next to me like a dog, demands constant cuddles, will never stay out of the room I'm in and sleeps next to me in my arms every night: -surprised Pikachu face-
honestly same, he follows me everywhere, he is sleeps on my stomach while hudding my hand, he is always cuddling, and he guards the door when im going to the bathroom
Yep, my cat comes to the bathroom with me too. Follows me and sits next to me no matter what room I'm in and sleeps using my right arm as a pillow while spooning with me every night lol
Yup. Cats are people :) Like, we recently took in a local stray; less than twelve hours after entering the house, he was sprawled on his back, legs up in the air, belly on full display. Then there's the one who's been with us for seven years and is still uncomfortable being picked up.
Watching this video I now realize how special my bond is with my kitty. Not only do I talk with her but she responds back to me accordingly. I recieved her prematurely and had to feed her through a dropper. I work from home and live alone so it's been constant interaction for 3 years now. She is a chantilly breed and lives up to it. If you ask her a question She makes a trill noise in a inflection like a human does when they say question someone. I swear she knows what I'm going to do before I do it no joke. We even enjoy intoxicants together. She loves the nip and I love the bud. When ever I take her outside to my mom's farm she will act like a dog and not leave my side and will answer to her name. She means the world to me and I couldn't imagine life without her. I wish everyone could experience it. Shes love in its truest form 🥰
thats beautiful!! someone who's never had this experience will never know how integral to people's mental well being a cat truly can be. its amazing to have that bond. its also good to focus on caring for another life, lol. 💯👋🐈
Cat owner of two wonderful cats here. I agree with everything said in this video! And if I could add one thing to it, it is: if your cat is friendly/trusting enough that you can hold them in your arms while you’re standing, make sure when you set them down you set them down on their paws. I always give an added pet to let them know they’re safe. They wait for that pet now too.
I never used to like cats, but I was helping a friend move from a place that was giving away cats. I didn’t want any, but one particular one imprinted on me for some reason and wouldn’t leave me alone... so naturally, I adopted him. He’s the friendliest and most emotionally needy cat I’ve ever met. I love him to death, but Nibbler is definitely an insistent lap cat. 🐈⬛
welcome to the cat family. Just know that cats are mini tigers/lions. Literally mini apex predators, they love sleep, attention at times and snacks. They are equipped with 10 switch blades that can come out on command. Their close relatives have paws the size of our heads so if you can't be friends with small cat you are doomed to be enemies with big cats. They have been around longer than humans and have virtually remained unchanged. God had deemed them top of the food chain until we came into the picture. But don't get it confused they will be here longer than we will
😎No offense by the way I watched your video about will the same thing about this is about but just to let you know not a lot of people will like your videos If you copy other videos I'm just letting you know 😎
Thank you for the informative videos. I also got myself a kitty for the first time. I always thought of myself as only a dog person. But after losing my companion awhile back due to illness associated with old dogs, I finally took the chance the get a kitten. And I must say, I'm hooked! Your videos give me so much info on what to do and what not - and the results are clear! My cat loves me 😅😁 Thanks
I'm really introvert but most cats doesn't love me.. I don't even try to pet them Im just near them and their like "So you've chosen, death" so now I'm scared of them :( it might be because I have a dog so they smell it
It could be that you have the scent of a dog on you, or maybe they can sense that you are nervous. Animals have a hard time feeling safe if they sense tension, either in your voice or your smell. My mom used to say "If they don't trust/know you it makes they think you might be plotting something, and they get defensive". From my own experiences so far, I have to agree. It's not your fault of course, but since you became afraid of cats in general it now turned into a big vicious cycle. I'm not the best person to give advice on that, but maybe when you try again bring someone that feels super comfortable around cats? Having someone to assure and give you tips might help to make you feel more relaxed and confident bit by bit, and by extension the cats too.
@@maeva3157 i think that could be it. I had a dog before and during that time cat usually would back off when I greet them the cat way or hiss at me in distress. But now i don't own any pet cats are super gentle and calm when I greet and interact with them
Ive been feeding an adorable feral cat for the past few months (since June) My son named him Jellybean. By now he loves me and follows me around everywhere. He sits right outside my porch door watching me inside, always needs to be next to me, and sleeps on my porch all night in the little house i bought for him. Yet he doesnt let me touch him. Hes even eaten out of my hand and lap but still no petting. Problem is he doesnt see me petting any other animal so he doesnt know that its ok. Hes feral after all. But hes MY cat now and Im honored that Jellybean chose me :) Hes very spoiled and very loved.
The slow blink and what i call the "stoner-eyes", half-closed. tells the cat you aren't worried about the environment cause your eyes are closed. allows them to relax a bit as well.
every cat I’ve met instantly liked me. I just watched this to have an even better relationship with my cat. and.....let a cat smell u before u pet them but they have to bunt u first(it’s a sign YOU CAN pet them)
I've only ever had one cat not like me. It sticks out in my mind as a massive failure. Poor girl passed away before I had a real chance at changing that.
My cats - Lockheed: Loves scratching the base of his tail, I'm the only one allowed to rub his belly and when he has enough, he pushes my hand away gently. Hetty: Same. Ahsoka: Same. Bishop: Tail he loves but he's scared of almost everything and while he flops down and shows me his belly I know touching would scare him. T'Challa: Flops down, shows belly, sleeps like dead besides me. When I touch him anyhwhere he chirps and walks away. Touching by human just isn't his cup of tea.
If the cat feels comfortable, affectionate, and trusting of a person then they will often enjoy and not mind those things, but if you haven't established a proper bond with that cat yet then the cat is more likely to be uncomfortable and get stressed from rear and especially belly rubs. Anxiety or not being accustomed to human interaction from early on will also often lead to cats being less open to petting in general.
I meow at cats usually. Once in my college hostel I meowed at a cat everyday, one fine day when I was sitting it slowly came close to me and climbed on my lap. Until that moment everybody thought it was a ferocious cat. It was sooo good to pet her
My family: The cat loves you so much more than the rest of us Me: Watches this video and realizes I do everything in this video Also me: This is why he likes me the best
In other words: it all depends on the cat. They're all different, like different things, like different people, and will react differently to different things.
The best way to bond with a cat is to stop talking at them and start watching their body language. They're telling you things and if you "hear" them, and react accordingly, you've opened a line of communication that rather quickly leads to trust.
Tin Man....You’ve got it....that is the key word, “communication”....if we can communicate with them by showing and reacting accordingly it will be surprisingly rewarding....🐈
Haha, well.. unless you want a cat that is very vocal. I've met cats that will seriously talk back to you. But, of course, you have to stop talking to let THEM talk to you. And ugh.. some of the vocal cats I've known are so loud and 80% of their communication is vocal. But some are nice and quiet when they vocalize... I think it's all about training and how demanding the cat is. (The more demanding the louder)
So I just recently adopted a 1-yr-old Siamese kitty & I've read a lot about caring for her & about 50% of these videos say not to pet over the tail area & the other 50% say cats love it. My cat loves it. I'll let her guide me as to where she's comfortable. She also loves to head-butt my hand. I love her.
I had a cat named Jocylen when she grew up she was fearless. She swat dogs away, approach large dogs and come out unharmed. I was the only person she was nice to.
my cat is like a tsundere she is like i dont like you but when our dog runs away because got scared my cat runs after her and i think she cares a lot about our dog she just cant express it
Another tip is to sit cross legged in front of a cat. They perceive this gesture as friendly and lessen their intimidation and anxiety. I saw this tip in another video and tried it and OMG, the feral cat I’ve been feeding outside my house came up a LOT closer to meet to eat the treats I set down beside me after showing signs of being unsure when I was sitting with my bum down and one leg bent and the other extended. Cross legged sitting is KEYs for them coming closer to you….
A relationship with a dog is like having a dependent child. A relationship with a cat is much more like forming an equal friendship. You likely will have to earn the friendship with a cat by being mutually respectful. Cats are not fully domesticated like dogs are so the relationship is quite different from that with a dog.

I have doggo and also cats. And it is very good combination
@@Blatantlyrude No. Its just far more like forming a relationship with an independent equal because Cats are not fully domesticated. Dogs on the other hand have been bred for blind obedience for many thousands of years. They are like a dependent offspring and they offer a blind loyalty similar to that of a dependent small child. Short of cases of extreme abuse a dog will unconditionally offer blind love. Having a relationship with more of an independent equal being does not require one to be subordinate, but it does require development of trust and reciprocation of kindness. You have to work for that relationship a bit more with a cat, the same as you have to put in effort to maintain any reciprocal relationship. Trying to sexualize the topic is a bit disturbing, even if it was meant as a joke.
@@Alphasnowbordergirl Actually it's because cats have not been fully domesticated to the extent dogs have been. The early ancestors of modern dogs did enter into partnership with early humans of their own accord. These dog ancestors approached human camps to scavenge scraps and bones we left as waste. In return tolerating their presence provided hunter gatherer humans an early warning system for dangers and a deterant to other animals. Over time the mutually beneficial relationship grew to the point that the animals could be tamed and purposefully bred for tait's we desired, such as tracking, hunting, obedience, and protection and even work such as sleigh pulling. Cats on the other hand have been allowed to remain semi-wild throughout their history even with what breeding we have performed. Mostly kept for rodent and pest control and companionship, they have often been. Allowed to roam free even as pets.
When I get home from gym, and I’m a bit sweaty, my cat wants to just hug me and be held by me for at least 20 minutes. She will be waiting for me as I come in and will climb me like a tree if I don’t pick her up. I love it.
Heheh nice. Your cat is probably like, "Ooooh! thats what you smell like! Sweet" or maybe "Hrm, you smell odd, here let me me make you smell like me again." Idk for sure which it is.
I find cats really love being scratched on the back of the head and neck areas, behind the ears. On the top of the head requires a light hand and requires a lot of trust.
I have always been a natural with cats. I have had many cats since I was a kid and was loved by them all, and they were loved back as my family. I have a solid grey tom cat right now named Clarence. He follows me around, is always trying to get my attention away from whatever I am doing by pawing at my hands. Lol
actually my cat dosnt care for affection, she just lays there and let me smother her years until im done. she isnt agressive or give any negative energy. so i think the cats they studied with had somewhat the same personalities but they missed to study certain different cats
My cat absolutely loves being scratched on the forehead the most. Also one thing this video missed is placing your hand on the cats body and not moving it. It will make them feel more calm. I learned that from Jackson Galaxy.
I have a cat like that. It was overstimulating him to be "pet" and he would scratch and bite me. I learned to just "pat" him for a small amount of time. He is a lot more calm now but I think it's because I take it easy and don't pet him too much.
It's weird because we had a bengal cat named Rambo that absolutely loved to be pet/patted on his butt, no matter what he would never bite but sometimes when playing if he noticed that his claws scratched or noticeably hurt someone, he would like that area and stop playing. That was before he got Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, basically the muscles surrounding his heart grew/thickened for generally no reason, and forced strain on his heart, which can create blood flow issues and can paralyse and kill slowly. But that didn't kill him in the end, something else did, and they couldn't figure out what. I remember that day so clearly- I had come home from school and when I entered, there was this foul smell of death. Everyday was the same, he would always greet everybody that came through the door, he was a social cat. This made my normally indifferent mood morph into constant panic. I had searched to find dark piles of blood and splatter of blood on the basement wall, that had come through his digestive system. He was nowhere to be found, I had made a phone call to my father that something wasn't right, and he had left work early to see for himself if it was serious. When I found him, he was hiding under my dad's bed, smelling of that same death scent. His eyes were of complete fear, a lack of the same sweet face that had previously given his face life. I can still smell exactly how bad it was. I left him to be alone and went on to wait for my dad to get home. 10 minutes later he came to me saying we have to take him to the vet because he had taken a sample of the substance with a plastic ziplock bag. Showing me the horrific sight of that dark red-ish-black hue. The panic was clear, while it was never obvious before, him never really showing worry over most problems. This was different. This wasn't just a cat but a friend that in the past when my parents still were together, everyone loved and still do. He was there to comfort when he felt the same stress or sadness we felt through whenever we felt it. Besides that, the trip was even more so unpleasantly. It was even worse than finding everything he had been through. I had to carry him in a blanket because we lacked a cat carrier. I choose a thin-soft green blanket that I liked so he would be comfortable. In that panic, my dad carefully grabbed him, with no aggression he had shown he clearly understood the situation and let my dad carry to my arms; however, covered. His tail and legs were drenched in that death substance. Weak. Scared. I wrapped him and comforted the best I could through the drive to the vet.------|part one out of two|------
He was meowing a guttural meow, he didn't enjoy the vet, and was semi-aggressive most times we went. But he was weak this time, so he had little choice in the matter. When we arrived after the painful 15 minute trip of talking to him and questioning wether or not this would be it for him, I carried him into the building, my dad explained the situation and they led us to a room, the whole process took a long time, multiple hours of torture not just for Rambo the cat, but also for my dad and I. He was kept overnight, vets gave us a 10-5% chance that he would live. He did though, somehow managing to overcome whatever happened. They took countless tests to understand what happened, with no explanation. But finding his other issues, unfortunately, that medical condition is prevalent in bengals. There was peace after that, he came home days later and was recovered. All it happened in mid February years ago. But, like a cancer that seeps its roots into the life force of living things. It happened again. A year later in the middle of February. No warning. I was home this time. My dad was out enjoying the fruits if the night. There was no blood this time. But it was that same smell that so not vacantly familiarised itself in that horrifically twisted way. I called my dad again, explained the situation. This time, I had to go to bed for school the next day. With a sudden dread, I was woken up, death had somehow filled my room too. My dad had woken me up. Through the dark and pale light that shed through the door I saw his face, saddened, troubled as if he couldn't quite except something. He said it was time, he was dying. He understood that the torment Rambo suffered was not worth the need to keep him alive. We both made the choice, to put him down. My dad had spent 4k on medical tests and treatments last time just so Rambo could live. He was around 9 years old before we put him down. Short but happy years filled his memories. From the day we spent the arduous journey driving to buy him from a breeder. To the final moments we, or I, spent silently watching him look to me with the eyes of even a person who has accepted something deep inside their psyche. It was difficult, to see him on the Anaesthesia. I had tears running down from my eyes, pointlessly falling for reasons I couldn't quite grasp. I spent the five minutes alone with him, in the dark room. Wishing it wasn't real. My dad had left the room because even though he showed strength, he was sad. He didn't want to see him like that. But I had indifference to the sight. But it was his eyes that made it difficult. That look tore through my soul. It ripped shreds from my heart. 5 minutes stretched too long-but equally too short-. A sentiment of a soul. A sorrowful spirit filled the void of darkness. I hated crying, and usually don't. This time I had zero control over my body. I had said my goodbye. Maybe he even still, in his last moments comforted me more than I did him. The car ride back. Was silent. What could we do? "What do we do". In that great silence. Few words were spoken. Too stunned to speak, too sad to surrender that sight. We didn't lose a cat. We lost a friend. As stupid as it sounds, he meant something. I never really understood the concept behind friends. Growing up, I used to think it was because you got along, and sometimes maybe that is true. But the time spent making memories creates this specific feeling, either creating a shortcut to happiness, or to torture. Equally and opposite- completely indifferent but different. A soul for a soul. His soul, for his memory. Our love. For his life. That's what we chose. We chose his life over our love for him, specifically because we loved him. Equally given, equally taken.
I just walk into a room, severely allergic to cats and asthmatic, keeping my distance as best as I can. Cats love it for some reason. It's like they can sense that I am not interested in petting or holding them and that's basically all it takes.
I think my cat is too friendly with me now x'D She literally won't leave me alone, screeches at my door to be let in my room and of course there's the dozens of rodents she has given to me. Still love her though!
I'm watching this video with one cat draped over my head making biscuits on my freshly-shampooed hair, and the other cat plopped beside me demanding head scratches. Love my two fluffs so much!
@@Catlily5 My cat loves smelling and playing with new paper bags. Or carriers any bag with or without stuff in. She will lose interest once the new fun smells have gone.

I'm allergic to cats. I always avoid them and ignore them. I don't look at them or touch them. Every single time without fail, the cat falls in love with me and I can't get rid of it. This works with men too.
I smiled throughout this video thinking that there are people watching who are desperately trying to win over a cat that doesn't like them.

SHHHHHHHHHUT IT
I adopted a "non-adoptable" cat (my favorite kind) from a shelter. :)
Awwwe that's so sweet & nice that you waited & allowed her to come to you first.

She lived until she was 15😘😥
How long did it take for the cat to leave the kitchen?
Actually, if a Cat shows their belly to you and doesn't react negatively to your touch, then it's an ultimate sign of trust.
Don't touch their bellies unless you know them well. My friend pet a cat's belly after the cat displayed it and got a swift scratch. She has a scar 10 years later.

My cat rolls over and lets me rub me belly
My older cat was kinda cold to me for a while, so I gave more love to my younger cat. The older cat responded by now she wakes me at daybreak everyday for the past few months by vigorously licking any exposed skin with her cold, wet gross tongue. The younger cat now stomps around on me to wake me up before the old one does. My mornings are awesome.

My mother always preferred male cats. As an adult male, i have always preferred female cats, and only one at a time. I'm on my 2nd and I'm amazed how similar both are. While independent, they both would walk the property with me. Great hunters as well.
1) let the cats approach you first
2) pet them where they enjoy the most
3) check your scent
4) approach them like a cat
5) mimic feline scents (cat pheromone sprays)
6) human interaction
7) don't block the exits
8) blink slowly, but don't stare
9) retreat at the right time
10) use treats strategically

I was living in the garage and a sickly blind cat came in smelling my food, I gave it some. It returned the next day for more. She was a feral cat and didn’t trust me. I closed the garage door in her, and gave her some chicken gravy. She allowed me to pet her for a good while. When she learned I was friendly I opened the door to let her know she’s free to leave. She left with a full belly and content. Never saw her again but that next day there was a baby that looked similar to her in my U-Haul probably 3 weeks old at most. She’s my partner now healthy and adventurous. My late cat (R.I.P) used to do that and I looked it up online and actually if your cat keeps asking for food even tho you gave her like a million times a day then probably that cat is depressed. So may be that's the case.

The other is very shy and won't leave my bedroom when other people are here.

They're super-friendly and will happily slobber all over you and try to hump your leg a couple minutes after meeting you :)
Cats are stand-offish at first and they spook very easily.
@@TheLolrider You're probably right, in my 46 years I've just always noticed that dogs are almost always ready to slobber all over you and cats are always waiting to maul you :)
I love cats, they're lovable little ones but VERY feisty and aggressive if they don't know you and trust you.
I love yo-“
Human: “lmao belly SQUEEZE”
Cat: “AAAAARGH BETRAYAL I TRUSTED YOUUUUUUUU”
OOmg ikr? XD
Why would you squeeze its belly tho..... rub i can understand but squeeze?
How could you do this?!? They trusted you!!!

Having someone to assure and give you tips might help to make you feel more relaxed and confident bit by bit, and by extension the cats too.

And ugh.. some of the vocal cats I've known are so loud and 80% of their communication is vocal. But some are nice and quiet when they vocalize...
More like a relationship with a cat is learning to be a good sub or bottom
That's because unlike dogs, cats came into human lives on their own so.. yeah nothing has changed.
I love it.

I’m the same way but with dogs. I love dogs but I die by them 😭 they always wanna be in my lap
"Cats aren't very food motivated" I think my cat missed this memo.
...I was thinking the same :D

I'm watching this video with one cat draped over my head making biscuits on my freshly-shampooed hair, and the other cat plopped beside me demanding head scratches. Love my two fluffs so much!
"Cats don't like new smells"
My cats: aggressively rubs face on all my friends' shoes
The cat is "claiming" the shoes by rubbing their scent over the scary new scents.
@@Catlily5 My cat loves smelling and playing with new paper bags. Or carriers any bag with or without stuff in. She will lose interest once the new fun smells have gone.
They do that cause they dont want your friends scent around and puts their scent on it
That’s not smelling, your cat is putting its scent on them.
Eraser Face.
I love walking up to random cats and try to pet them, i’ve been getting and better but this video helps a lot. One can say cat train us and not the other way around
My cat absolutely loves strangers, he goes up to them (with my permission) and gets lots of love. As for tummy tickles he loves them so much!
My cat loves the smell of lavender so we bought lavender scented soap, and she let's ppl pet her more often after a quick wash.
that's pretty unique, lavender is usually too strong of a scent for most cats.
@@PatrickRatman the lavender incense I thought she'd like is too strong, but it also smells dope.
I'm allergic to cats. I always avoid them and ignore them. I don't look at them or touch them. Every single time without fail, the cat falls in love with me and I can't get rid of it. This works with men too.
