Something to mention: The thing creaks endlessly when you attach it to the table. Even an oak plate of 4cm produces a bouncing motion with the extreme top-heaviness of the ring light, which is immediately followed by annoying squeaking. The light can only be used with a separate tripod and you must not touch it under any circumstances. Elgato has unfortunately failed to give the light a stable chassis and has used simple plastic. If the lower part had been equipped with an aluminum or magnesium body, everything would have been great - but as it is now, the product simply cannot be used for streaming at the table.
Great review of the ring light - but I'm a glasses kinda guy so it's not an option for me tbh. I really like the lighting that you are under in the review - can you do a session on what your setup is?
as an antique photographer and camera builder from the 19th century, you won my attention the second you said: "your camera is as good as your lighting." much respect my friend
Ring Lights cause unnatural shadows when used for any other purpose than straight in front of you for makeup-type content. I could see this being potentially reasonable at $100, but for $200? I got two GVM LT 50S bicolor panels that have around 3-4x the output of the Keylights, are rated at 97 CRI, and also came with barn doors and light stands, for $200. Elgato is trying to market themselves as THE streaming ecosystem, but unless you're getting brand deals/sponsorships, I can't see their overall pricing for their products as justifiable. Not saying they make terrible products, but the average streamer is going to waste a lot of money on these types of products when their money could be much better spent elsewhere. Just my hot take.
I agree to an extent, the quality really is there but their products are too expensive for non-professional streamers. The average streamer could definitely get alternatives and save money. If the Elgato products were maybe 1/3rd cheaper I think it would be more justifiable for a wider audience. Cheers - Andy
@@KitGuruTech Yeah, I've said the exact same ratio. Haha! Again, their products aren't terrible products, although the Cam Link leaves fidelity and reliability to be desired (I stopped keeping track of the amount of people that had issues with it that I was trying to help). But overall, if they just reduced their pricing, I think the entire conversation about their brand would change.
Is the Elgato Ring Light strong enough to bounce the light off a white wall (my desk is in a corner, so it will come off two sides) just behind so that I get strong enough light without the ring reflection on my glasses and without the strain on the eyes?
Ok so I have a question. I own 2 elgato key lights. I plan on mainly 1 person streaming but im am setting up for 2... guest etc. Im worried a elgato ring light with 2 people would look weird. Even if i got a second elgato ring light and a matching go pro hero 5 black to capture the video. Are my worries wrong? To add to that I am using 2 elgato floor green screens. I have a pair of neewer led soft boxes im thinking i may need just to deal with green screen shadows. Please let me know and Thank You in Advance. Joe
Nice video! How far away were you seated during the examples? I'm curious of this effect in the eyes can be minimized if you are not seated too close to the camera/light :P
This is a great review! Does it hurt your eyes? I always put my ring light above facing downwards so it’s not directly on my face, but I love the fact that it comes with a built in camera stand. I get headaches from super bright lights so I’m just wondering! :)
As @Nitrix mentioned the LED's are pointed towards the edges under the diffusion but I can sympathise with yourself. I'm very sensitive to light and the ring light does indeed get so bright it hurt my eyes. However there is a work around, if you turn the brightness down and open the lens aperture up on your camera (use the lowest F stop that it lets you use) this will let in more light into the sensor. You can also compensate by slightly raising the ISO but try to keep the ISO as low as possible to reduce noise in the image. Hope that helps! Cheers - Andy
Glad you enjoyed the review. As I mentioned at the end the price is definitely the biggest issue. Sadly, I thought the same thing about the Key Light and Key Light Air too. Cheers - Andy
That 4000D case looks superb. I've got a 750D (airflow) case and have had this for years and years. I haven't thought about an upgrade until I've seen that advert. EDIT: Aww, didn't realise it's a mid tower, I thought it was an advert for a new full tower :(
$200 usd ..... Noooooo Thanks..... many more options for much less. Don't let the marketing fool you all that talk about so called high quality LEDs. I've seen people with janky lighting and still look better than those who spend thousands of dollars....lmfao
These literally work with the wifi and an app also with stream decks in obs and xsplit for streaming. So comparing them to manual control ring lights is dumb. Also they come with the small version of the master mount which is a great mount.

Love how they released this.... after 3 months of me buying 2 key lights
How are you finding the key lights? Looking to get some gaming streaming lights. Looking at the key light airs as well
@@J0PHIEL I'm using a key light and think it's great.
So what would you recommend the most for game streamers?
2 key lights?
2 key light airs?
Or 1 ring light?
Thanks for the great review Andy, you and Leo are the best reviewers.

Good info thanks Tim

How do you guys like the h500p mesh behind you? I love it. Beautiful and efficient. Cheers
It's my favourite case that I've owned personally! Easy to build in, it looks awesome and I love it. Cheers - Andy
Does it come with the power supply?
I am looking at getting better light. I would only be getting 1 so would you recommend this over say a key light?
yea, if it had a desk stand like the key light air I would have loved this. Like you, I cannot use a desk clamp on my desk so that killed this for me.
Nice video! How far away were you seated during the examples? I'm curious of this effect in the eyes can be minimized if you are not seated too close to the camera/light :P
awesome video... production quality exceptional
Can you replace the lights?
Great video
Love the background music and the review, would you please share the BG
track ;) ?
I'm already in need of a new camera stand for my desktop. So this is a perfect option for me with everything included.
What brand is that speaker in the background?
Thank you for this review! It was very helpful and I decided to order it after watching this video :)
Anyone that has this ring light is not using the additional power supply plugs (like the ones for other countries) ? I’m looking for spare ones.
I just purchased a very affordable ring light and it won’t even turn on 😂😂😂😂
Well drop that link so we can avoid that company. Come on, expose eeeeem

the LED's are pointed sideways at the frame to help with that :)

Nice review but for £190 are you having a laugh Corsair?
Glad you enjoyed the review. As I mentioned at the end the price is definitely the biggest issue. Sadly, I thought the same thing about the Key Light and Key Light Air too. Cheers - Andy
I definitely do not need this lol. I would think anyone with wrinkles too haha
Elgato is just the apple brand for Streaming products: way overpriced for basic functions.
Thats so stupid if you pay them for that
I thought this looked a lot better than the other ones I’ve seen lately to be fair.
73th🌺😼

Less attitude please.
Shitty commercial. :-)
