I picked up the Ring Light first, but I don't use it with the camera in the middle, nor do I point it at myself. I use it like a Key Light at a 45 degree angle because it costs the same as the Key Light and has *almost* the same power (2500 vs 2800 lumens). I never need anywhere near the maximum power, so as far as I'm concerned the 300 lumen difference is not a deal breaker, but what I gain is flexibility if I decide to use it with a camera, and the convenience of tweaking the power with the manual buttons when I'm not near my Stream Deck XL. One of the key reasons I decided against using it with the camera in the middle is the minimum height is way too high. I need to look UP the entire time, which isn't natural. Here's the catch-22. The Ring Light comes with a shorter pole, but the lowest position is actually too tall center yourself in the shot without looking up. If you get the weighted base to put it on the floor, it's too short. I hope you add a shorter pole to your accessory line.
This is a great video, and now I'm leaning towards getting a key light and a key light air for my set up. Key light air will be good for portability and the larger key light will be great for a more fixed set up, especially combined with the air as a fill light. I think that'll be a good combination!
Shouldn't one keylight and one keylight air or mini be a pretty great combination? Air/mini for that more dramatic shadow look, and key light for filling the rest.
ok so I just want to make sure, I’m building a gaming PC and will also be buying the Green Screen and was planning on getting the Key Light, do you think it’s better to get 2 Key Lights or 1 Key Light and 1 Ring Light? I was thinking that I’d have the Key Lights angled to the side rather than facing me directly.
You didn't discuss the option of getting one "Elgato key light" to use for key light and combine it with a "Elgato key light air" to use as fill light. Is that because the "Elgato key light air" wouldn't be bright enough properly fill for the "Elgato key light" and utilize its full potential? Or is this actually a viable option? I already have an "Elgato key light" and I am contemplating using the "key light air" as fill light because there is no clamp mount possibility on that side of my table.
If you're not using a Green Screen that should work well. The fill light isn't meant to be as bright as the key light. However with a Green Screen the consistency provided by using two of the same light is beneficial.
@@mdgm88 I ended up buying three Elgato key lights. That works well for three point lighting both with and without the Elgato green screen (which I also got). Together with my Camlink 4k and my old camcorder I know have an awesome setup for videoconferences (which I do many of daily from my home office).
@@simens8646 Nice. I'm going to try something similar with 3 Elgato Key Light Airs. Going to try in my worst lit location first (if it doesn't work there I'll relocate the lights to another location and probably try the Key Light though I don't want to clamp them to the desk). I don't have a camcorder to use though (well I think I might still have an old analogue one around somewhere that is inferior to a smartphone). One of the reason why the Ring Light and Key Light combo could be a good option for some with a green screen is that although they are a little different, the brightness etc. doesn't differ as much as it does with the air, so you could configure them to provide a consistent light level for the green screen.
@@mdgm88 I had an 10 year old Panasonic HDC-SDT750 which was a respectable camcorder at it's time. It' delivers 1080p60 clean HDMI output and has optical zoom (which can be controlled with a remote control). This is significantly better and more flexible than the so called Logitec Streamcam which I got two months ago. It doesn't give the natural bokeh, that you would get from a low focal length DSLR camera, but it works sufficiently well. I've also ordered a cheap light stand (with boom arm) to keep the Elgato Key Light I use for back light/hair light out of view. I have noticed the issue you refer to wrt uneven lighting of the green screen. For me the third Elgato Key Light (back light) nicely spills some light onto the green screen, hence contributing to balancing out shadows. My greatest concern is that not all my windows have curtains and that bright daylight at certain hours of the day can interfere with my lighting setup. The Key Light is a nice product, but it can't really balance out sunlight.
Here is my scenario. Im a sim racer and and im doing an over the Shoulder POV, so it looks like im sitting in the cockpit of the car im driving. How should i position my lighting to when the camera is pointing at my monitor the picture doesn't get blown out. Im using a Elgato Facecam pro.
The principle is to only choose the right and not the expensive. This principle applies only to popular demand. Now the common parameters of the latest lamps in 2022: 1. (1) There are 10 levels of brightness, and the color temperature is 2900K-6700K. If you can't reach it, you can pass it directly, because they are out of date; (2) The computer clip used by 6-8inch has the disadvantage of damaging the computer screen. 10-12inch use desktop stand, limited lighting range and usage scenarios. 14-16 inches, these two sizes are relatively small, neither big nor small, and the scope of application is limited. 18-20 inches, more recommended, the brightness and usage scenarios can meet most needs, 21-22 inches, the brightness is better, but due to the large head of the lamp, the bracket is unstable and easy to tilt. (3) Most of the brackets on the market are of the same specification, and the selling points of each are concentrated on the ring light. 2. 1%-100% LED display, I suggest that non-professional photographers do not need to choose, can you see with your eyes where the difference in brightness between 10% and 15% is? When we generally use it, we use our eyes to see if it meets our lighting effects. It is just like the general rotation and buttons to adjust up and down. 2. There are two types of power supplies, one is USB and the other is Power Adapter with Plug. If you have high requirements on the brightness of the light, choose the Power Adapter with Plug, because it includes all the brightness of USB and higher. 3. The number of lamps directly affects the effect of lighting. The more lamp beads of the same specification, the more evenly distributed the light. Color Rendering Index CRI>90, the higher the CRI, the better, the closer to natural light, the more expensive the price. 4. The more lamp beads of the same specification, the more uniform the light will be. If you can't remember so many parameters, it doesn't matter. Look at the title. The parameters displayed in the title represent the seller's advantage. If the advantages of the title cannot reach the above parameters or the description indicates that this parameter is lower than the basic parameters on the market, Sellers want to highlight their advantages and make you want to buy.
