  • UPDATE 2-14-2020:
    The roadblocks were unresolvable and it was time to start over. I recently did a rewind video and selected a new phone to become my Frankenstein experiment. That video will be coming up Mar 1, 2020. Watch for it.
    UPDATE 6-19-2019:
    I hope to get my first transplant done soon, but I've been hitting some major roadblocks (as did Victor). I may have to contact LG for some help (no similar incidents online) and hope they're willing to help.
    ORIGINAL POST:
    Today, I'm doing a teardown of an LG Rebel 4. The reason I'm making this video is because while working on a related project, I needed some help dismantling my Rebel 4. I soon realized there were no videos on how to teardown a Rebel 4. Stay tuned.

    I was thinking I'd replace the screen on my Rebel 4. After this video, I think I'll just put the old motherboard into the new body. Already has the new screen. Loos like it'll be pretty easy too.

    This is very helpful. Looking at the bottom left when the phone is facedown, there is a little square between the antenna traces. Yours is white. I'm looking at one that is red. Is that a moisture sensor? And will that interfere with the battery charging?

    • @XLessThanZ

      I'm not sure if that was a sticker or an embedded plastic piece. Sorry, but don't have that phone anymore to check, either. 🤷‍♂️

    Can you help me I dropped my phone on the floor and now I have a faded black screen , other vids say it could be the display ribbon disconnected , I can see some of my screen when I press on it

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  4 роки тому +2

      If your screen isn't cracked, then it could be the ribbon popped off the connector. That's unfortunate, because to get to the screen connector to check it, as shown in the video, you have to remove the cover, then the plastic shield to expose the screen connector which is a silver rectangle one along the side of the phone towards the bottom of the battery. If you feel like you want to follow along with the video, that would be what you're looking for.

    Thank you for the information! I know it's unrelated to this video, but do you know a way I can delete cached data from recovery mode with this phone? I have one that has internal storage completely full, so it won't move on from the unlock pattern. So I can't get in to delete anything. As far as I can tell, there is no system cache partition with this phone, and booting to what should be recovery mode only offers to wipe all user data. Any ideas?

    Where is the internal memory? Ive got 3 rebel 4 here one is busted any hope of recovering the data? Also where is the carrier compatibility is that something you can swap out?

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  4 роки тому +1

      A phone that's locked to a specific carrier can be unlocked via software. I've never done it because I always use WiFi calling through Google Hangouts. You'll have to research it online, but I'd think it's readily available, because I remember going to a swap meet and seeing booths selling that service.

    Would you know anything about the touch screen? My rebel works fine, but touching a link on the browser screen causes another link to operate. Obviously there is something wrong with the touch screen. Can I get a new screen assembly?

    From the video it seems as if the charge port is connected to the motherboard. The small tab in my charge port is broken so I was hoping to just swap my motherboard into my friend's LG rebel 4 but I'm assuming there's no point. If buying another phone is not an option, do you have a possible solution for someone with a broken charge port on a Rebel4?

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  4 роки тому +2

      That's a tough one. If the port itself is broken, you'd need at least a new one of those to resolder onto the old motherboard. Otherwise, a whole new motherboard is the only other way. Nothing else I can think of...Sorry.

    • @XLessThanZ

      I don't know of any automated ways, but you can...
      1. look up how to connect a USB drive to your phone.
      2. using a file manager app (I use File Manager Plus), copy everything from important folders on MAIN STORAGE (sometimes called LOCAL) to the USB drive. Probably folders like, DOWNLOAD, DCIM, PICTURES, MOVIES, MUSIC. Hard to say exactly since everyone will be different.
      Hope this helps.

    What size screwdriver did you use?

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  3 роки тому

      PH000, PH00 and PH0 all fit the cross-points visible right when you take off the back cover. One size screw head, but all those sizes fit. PH00 fit the best though.

    What size screwdriver to use to remove the phillips screws. I have a #PH00, doesn't work.

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  3 роки тому +1

      On the set I used in this video, it was PH00. I've noticed in a new set I have now, it goes by some other number and it's ABOUT 2.0, whatever that means. I usually take just the bit between my fingers and see how loose/tight it is. If it's pretty tight, that's what I use.

    • @innovativeguitars3998
      @innovativeguitars3998 3 роки тому

      @@XLessThanZ Thank you for your answer. I went to the hardware store and purchased a very high quality set of screwdrivers. I am using PH0 from the set, and it worked perfectly. The point of interest in your video was the antenna removal. I removed the antenna. What I am attempting to do is hack the antenna, either with wires to make a better antenna, or, add kind of dongle jack input, so I can hook up antenna cable to connect my yagi antenna, or some other antenna. I get from 0 bars to 2 bars reception, the signal seems to pulse from 0 to 1 bars. I connect with Verizon, and if I can just improve reception, that would be great. Right now I'm studying the antenna to understand what is the transmitter and what is the ground plane. Any input from you or anyone else, would be appreciated. I can assume a lot of people would be interested in what I am attempting to do. As of right now, unless I damage the phone, it is working perfectly and is currently with a good Verizon/Straight Talk SIM.
      Again, thanks for you help
      Any suggestions on the antenna would be appreciated, if you or anyone else has insight.

    if i touch the things on the mother board will it stop my phone from working?

    • @XLessThanZ
      @XLessThanZ  4 роки тому

      It's possible for a circuit to be made between two parts that are not supposed to be connected. This would be more of a problem if the phone is turned on while the board is exposed.

      No idea what's wrong. If you even got a message on bootup, that's another common problem I found could not be resolved. I've grown a bit hesitant of LG phones now that I've experienced them more. Sorry I couldn't help more. Also, did you read Daniel Park's comment below. Same thing.
