Gary Lewis was very under rated because of his famous father! He made some pretty darn good music, had a few number one hits...& knocked the Beatles off the Top Spot during their prime. I'm so glad he's still out there singing at age 70!

He would have been bigger than life , but he got drafted during Vietnam..and sadly the music industry is very unforgiving if you dont continue to put out music...it was never the same when he returned..
What an ecstatic collection of songs he brought us. He was credited as a writer on some of them. Sure he had privilege and advantages, but oh what he did with them. Glad as anything that you're still singing, songs from when we were still joyous and carefree. Love you Gary.
I saw Gary and the Playboys for the first time in 1966 at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. They were Great!! and the MC was Don Adams of Get Smart TV fame. What a FANTASTIC SHOW and a Great Memory.
He has such a sparkling, magical quality to both his singing and band. He had such a beautiful, crystal clear voice. I adored his music. And true- at the height of the British Invasion at dances, This Diamond Ring would always get everyone on the dance floor. People just adored him. He made great songs.

One of the best songs by this group. I liked the message as it is something we want to say to those we love when we are not sure of their feelings. The songs in those times had more depth than those being Heard on the radios today with few exceptions. Of the modern singers only Shakira and Selena Gomez have good songs.

Check out "Everyone Loves a Clown", looks entirely diferent. He is singing it on his fathers TV Show. He is the ultimate group singer, he never went out on his own, as far as I remember. By the way, he did have a fabulous, not many rock bands, had such an excellent keyboard player. This group probably made as many good hits as any band from that era, except maybe the Beatles.
Actually, a session drummer was used for the Playboys' hit singles. Gary played drums on some of the instrumentals and LP tracks. But his playing sounded nowhere near as polished compared to someone like Hal Blaine.
I suppose they didn't think it sounded good enough. Not sure. There was a lot of overdubs which seems unnecessary to me also. I guess back then you had to sound a certain way. I suppose they didn't know who Bob Dylan was yet. Lol.
They only brought a session singer to sing with Gary on the first album and a little bit of the second, after that there was no ghost vocalist singing with Gary
