The song , the singer . the entire band, , this is new age psychedelic music from another planet like I never heard before. Pure genius. Rest in peace, Toy Caldwell, and long live the sound of The Marshall Tucker band.
I’m a 73 yr old woman and this is my era and my music and I feel blessed. But I really enjoy watching your reactions this music. You are doing a great job! Keep it going. And BTW you have a beautiful smile!
This is southern rock at it's finest. The flute solo at the beginning & end is great. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their other big hits were "Fire on the Mountain" & "Heard It in a Love Song". Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Marshall Tucker band 4 times. Toy Caldwell the man singing the song was a Vietnam veteran who was wounded in 1968. He and his brother Tommy Caldwell founded the Marshall Tucker band. The name of the band was not for a member of the band but was a blind man who tuned pianos, the name was inscribed on a piano key and they took that name for the band. Toy died in his sleep in 1993, his brother Tommy died in a wreck when he was only 30. Thank you for listening to the great music I grew up with.
Nothing like Southern Rock! I had a Marshall Tucker shirt when I was a little girl in the 70's! I'm in Greenville, SC. Toy Caldwell died in Spartanburg, SC. Ronnie Van Zant and two other band members from Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plane crash after they played at Greenville Auditorium.
People tend to overlook that this was a freight train. It used to be much more common to ‘ride the rails.’ When my (now) brother-in-law was 14, he and a friend jumped a freight train in the 60s from Traverse City, MI to Detroit to go see Jimi Hendrix play. They arrived and got to see the concert, but chose the wrong train to jump heading home. They ended up in Grand Rapids, some 100-125 miles from Traverse City. Imagine having to call your Dad in the early morning hours to tell him what they had done and ask him to come and get them! Nice job, Adogg. I’m glad you got this song under your belt. So much raw emotion and great musicianship. Thank you.
Toy, lead singer and lead guitar player..served 2 tours in Vietnam..was wounded, received Purple Heart..after Vietnam..wrote the song because of all the Dear John letters the guys in his Unit received while in Vietnam..and Toy never used a guitar pick..just his thumb
I was lucky enough to hang out with these guys a few times. My high school drama teacher for my senior year dated the drummer in this band. She was a fantastic lady. She let 4-5 of us hang out at her apartment on the weekends where most the band was hanging too. We had such fun! The stories, jam sessions, etc…💜💜💜💜🤪🤪💜💜💜
Thanks so much reacting to this. Brings back memories of the seventies when I used to go watch Toy Caldwell play and sing he was one of the best. Revered in a southern rock world.
First time here..love how you are loving this song! ..another good southern rock band is Allman Brothers Band..please react to Not My Cross To Bear and One Way Out 💞✌
I was fortunate to see them in Sturgis, SD 1990 Bike Rally at the Buffalo Chip Campgrounds. Yes I rode on the back of our Harley-Davidson Soft tail from NC. Rode and camped a straight three weeks out on the road. Best adventure I've ever had!
They walk out the stage at the Harnass Track in Winterhaven Fl. Opening act and blew everyone away. New Riders of the Purple Sage followed them then Commander Copdy. But Marshall Tucker stole the show and I have all their Albums. Left us far to soon,
That song was on their debut album in 1973 & was recorded right here at Capricorn Studios in Macon Georgia which is also home of the Allman Brothers, Little Richard, Otis Redding & Zac Brown - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌❤☮
Toy Caldwell on vocals for this tune. Legend on guitar. Drummer so good . Some tunes he plays you need serious endurance to lay down beat for entire song.
That is a great performance. And such an amazing band, through and through. You would enjoy the video of Wet Willie performing Grits Ain't Groceries live from the '70s. I think it's a Don Kirshner rock concert. Enjoy your reactions. Great choice of song, artist and performance.
Definitely great southern rock but they are great rock anywhere! Love this song and Toy has so much soul in his voice. Thanks Adogg, watched it all with you.
Sooo many memories. My fav is my 1 &1/2 yr. old son singing this song while riding in the car. He would get into it. Yes I know that's young but he said his 1st word(Uncle) at 3 months. I love you at 6 months so all these words at 1 & 1/2 was easy for him. Our fav songs are Heard It In A love Song & In my Own Way.

Toy Caldwell on lead guitar and vocals. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart twice, if not mistaken.
Nothing like a good ' old Southern Rock. ❤

This is one of my all-time favorite songs and even though the sound cuts out for a second or two, this is my favorite version. Thank you.
I’ve always loved this song. Great reaction ✌️

I saw them a couple of times in 73 and one of my best, most vivid memories is Toy Caldwell's solo guitar lead on this song!

Literally one of my favorite songs. Reminds me of a certain girl of course. It’s a jam man!
