Kye and Lydia are in our kitchen to show off how amazing Lydia's new recipe is! With brown butter, toasted milk powder, and generous amounts of vanilla and salt, these are so much more than your average Rice Krispies treats. There are a few tricks that make these treats soft yet slightly chewy - like adding a portion of the marshmallows right at the end of mixing to create pockets of ooey-gooey sweetness. These treats have become such a favorite of the King Arthur Editorial Team at staff gatherings, we’ve declared these the ultimate Rice Krispies treats!

I also toast the Rice Krispies in the oven while the butter is cooking. For adult bars, I add a couple-3 tablespoons of bourbon after removing the mix from the heat but before adding the krispies.

Brown butter definitively elevates Rice Krispie treats. I’ve done this without the milk powder for a few years now, but now I want to try your method.

I've definitely done with malted milk powder, it's subtle and doesn't make as big a difference as browning the butter but it's worth doing

My husband likes to melt semisweet chocolate, and spread that on the top of the rice crispy treats. I think it's guilding the lily, but admit it does taste amazing.
(Be sure you cut it into pieces before the chocolate hardens!)

Hi Susan! Here Kye and Lydia used one of our half sheet pieces of parchment and cut it to fit inside the square pan, making slits in the corners to create a basket-like liner in the pan. Hope this helps! -👩‍🍳Morgan

Our Baker's Dry Milk is specially formulated for baking and doesn't rehydrate like regular dry milk (always mix it with your drys!), so it may not be a complete 1:1 swap. However, we believe it should work just fine for your bakes! 😊 -🥐Lily

Looks awesome! Wished vegetarian marshmallows weren’t $6 for a small bag! Or if only, a company would make a non gelatin RKT recipe with something else. HINT HINT. I’m still drooling and crying!

Kelloggs rice krispies contain barley malt and are not gluten free. I buy Aldis store brand instead, as we have a son with celiac. Just in case anyone lands here from the gluten free KA short.
