Wow I can't believe my favorite Pokémon is literally the least popular out of 1000+ creature designs.

Wooper and Mimikyu being the most popular was a bit surprising but it feels correct 💅

Honestly, I expected the most average Pokemon to be Nidorino or something

They must've picked it as the Pokemon to appear in all Kanto Game intros for a reason
It might be close to the average if you consider only Gen 1 Pokémon. I didn't do these calculations for every region individually. But considering how Pokémon designs have changed over the years, I'm not surprised Larvitar is closer to the average.

I'd say it's probably just because it's extremely artificial, humanoid and not conventionally cute, which goes against most Pokemon hence the high divergence using this method. Doesn't make it bad though, just different :)
Alolan Sandslash is my favorite Pokemon so I almost teared up when it was mentioned... until you started badmouthing it!

@UmbreonLibris I'M UNSUBSCRIBING RIGHT NOW... nah, I won't. But both Sandslashes are just so perfect... in my opinion. Cute face and small body but still with big cool claws and spikes. The Alolan variant having hooked claws is such a perfect detail to distinguish it from its equally perfect Kantonian counterpart.

Well, your session does reset if you are inactive for a year (meaning the site "forgets" which Pokémon you already rated, so you start over), but any less than that and you're good!
A problem with analysing popularity is that it doesn't correlate directly to design. Many have a favorite Pokémon based on stuff like their first run, or a particular card or an episode.

so i've noticed i pretty consistently rate Pokemon higher on the normal-to-fantastical scale than the average - i don't get out much, so i don't get to see all the armored dinosaurs and electric squirrels that most people run into in their daily lives. i get it, that's on me.
but i kinda figured Porygon of all things could unanimously max out that particular slider. turns out at least *some* people kick it with living holograms, too. that reoccurring heavyset man is right, technology really IS incredible!
wooper i completely understand that is the correct opinion and it is good to see that people are in agreement there. But mimikyu dont get me wrong its is perfectly adequately but its not anywhere near the same level as wooper
Grafaiai is my favourite new pokemon from Paldea and Volbeat (along with Illumise) is my least favourite pokemon overall so I consider these findings acceptable.

Here's the 1st 6 Pokemon I got (excluding DLC mons that I had to painstakingly go through all. Y is Ogrepon's mask forms separated? They arent that different enuf for me to give them visibly different ratings. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that Squawkabilly's colored variants are..ugh whatever. I guess most form changes have distinct entries to rate as well.)
Gastrodon: Im neutral on it overall. Evidently it's not humanoid nor is it cute or ugly when Im looking at its still image. It can kick some butt in battle w its fantastic typing & good moves to fill a bulky role for the team. It's what it's, a sea slug. I like the blue coloration on the East Sea, which is what I got.
Shuppet: Banette is what most ppl remember more thanks to its creepiness &, the dex entry stating that it used to be a doll which was thrown away by the owner, so it was reborn seeking revenge from them. Its popularity would've shot up if its typing was the very 1st (or even 1 of the few) Normal/Ghost. Mons with new or rare dual types get more attention from fans, that's the formula. It's cute, I enjoy the Rotom theory & its G5 sprite where it sticks out its tongue. Based Shuppet.
Magnemite: just like Voltorb, I dont think it's a lazily made & shouldnt be scrutinized in G1 vs. G5 design arguments. It's all now ok Gen5ers, it's fine. Not their best work for a magnet based...or I mean magnets as there're 2 or more of them attached to these mons. The most amusement I get outta them is the mispronunciations ppl make.
Pachirisu: most of its acclaim comes from those times in G6 when VGC players, specifically Sejun, who geniusely (thats not a word) made a gr8 use out of it, becoming a world champ among w other picks on his winning team like Mega Gyarados. As for its design, Emolga is a better electric squirrel cuz it flieees... w/o that big event it's a bland albeit cute mon though better than Plusle/Minun from previous gen which is not a hard thing to achieve. The last pikaclone with no 2ndary typing to aid it visually until Pawmi.
Quaquaval: it isnt loved too much sadly, due to the humanlike features surrounding this duck (dude the freaking booty), but I dont think it's anywhere near as bad as Inteleon. Quite solid. Quaxly is my fav 1st stage starter from Paldea & it's what I'd pick out of the 3 w/o knowing what they turn into. However, I cant decide which is my favorite G9 Starter, maybe Floragato.
Cloyster: its shape along w Onix is uhh... Anyways, it's a big sweeper w Skill Link & multi hit moves by virtue of Shell Smash. Should this be an Ice-type lorewise? Idk but for competitive w that it gets STAB on its strongest, risk-free Icicle Spear. I know this is supposed to be discussions about designs but Im bringing up my personal thoughts & that also includes other things like battle performance.
As a Pokémon fan, I rank incredibly high on the divergence scale :p

Gonna be honest, Volbeat just looks kinda gross to me, never really liked its stance or it's face. I find Illumise somewhat charming though.

I think they're pretty forgettable too, compounded by their relatively unwarranted rarity and generally weak movepool and stats making them really useless in a playthrough.
As an enjoyer of nearly all Bug types
Volbeat and Illumise may just be the only exceptions

Design pretty much peaked in Gen 2. I think the best designs ever are the legendary beasts.

As much as I love Gen 2-a fantastic set of designs-IMO the peak of Pokémon designs happened between Gen 5 and Gen 7.

For me personally Mimikyu is a second worst Pokemon design behind only Eiscue, and it's unbelievably hard to comprehend and accept that for many MANY people Mimikyu is literally the best. Woah
Although last time I thoroughly thought about my least favorite Pokemon was before Scarlet and Violet have came out, and nowadays I hate all of the Iron paradoxes with all my heart, maybe even more than Eiscue, Mimikyu, Brionne etc. So maybe next time I'll spent a good time thinking about this; Iron Treads, Iron Thorns and Iron Moth will become my new three least favorite Pokemon. It's hard to rank my least favorite pokemon because they all suck pretty muck equally.
What do you dislike about Mimikyu so much?
@@UmbreonLibris it's kinda a convoluted mess of subjective reasons
First of all, many people in Pokemon community are angry at Charizard for being a love child of Pokemon franchise and receiving too much love, but I don't feel this way about Charizard. Pikachu on the other hand I somewhat dislike for special treatment it gets. Pikachu shoved down our throat in every Pokemon aspect possible - dozens TCG cards, hundreds different costumes and hats for Pikachu in every single game including mobile spin-offs (Shuffle and GO), Gigantamax form, two Z-moves, partner variation for Let's GO, cosplay Pikachu for ORAS, pikaclones every generation... and in generation 7 it gets way overboard - not only Togedemaru, but also Mimikyu!
So the first reason why I dislike Mimikyu is because it is an extra unnecessary attention and special treatment given to a Pikachu.
Then, it 's not only looks like a cheap copy of a Pikachu, but it's also looks like a very bad drawing of a fakemon done by a small child.
Generations 6, 7 and 8 were the golden era of both real and fake Pokemon leaks, I was religiously monitoring 4chan /vp board waiting for a pieces of new Pokemon information. Some Pokemon like Greninja, Hawlucha and Bruxish were causing some heated debates over them being real or fake, but usually strong design always indicate real leak and fake leak are recognisable because they are go against Pokemon design and style philosophy. And when I've seen a scan of CoroCoro magazine with Mimikyu for the first time, I was dead sure it's a blatant fake and not a real Pokemon, because at a time GameFreak creating a worse copy of already existing Pokemon was unheard of, a nonsense. And Mimikyu sure was (and still is) just a badly drawn grey Pikachu with a stick for a tail.
Nowadays of course GameFreak could easily make ten "Iron Something" Pokemon who are just worse versions of already existing Pokemon, but Mimikyu was made around 7 years ago.
And finally, I hate Mimikyu because of its explanation and reason to look like it looks. Apparently, according to a pokedex lore, Mimikyu is a lonely Pokemon that is jealous of Pikachu popularity and success, and makes Pikachu costume just because it wants to be loved and appreciated... but that is just super straightforward way to make people well in love with it. And yet it somehow still worked on millions of Pokemon fans!
For me personally it was more like a reverse psychology trick - its Pokedex entry says it's dressing like annoying yellow rat because it wants to be loved? well thanks, then I hate it instead!
If I were to redesign a Mimikyu, I'd make it disguise significantly less like a Pikachu and more cute, like an old plush toy, and not like a piece of dirty rag. But then I'd make its busted form more like a truly terrifying monster, with more parts of the black something being visible, and overall looking like something that can make you die when you look at it.
I think those tweaks might save the Mimikyu as a Pokemon concept for me.
@@Kostyurikthose are some actually not bad reasons to dislike it. Ppl still find Mimikyu to be cute despite not knowing what its real body looks like.
