Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. This might be blasphemous in this channel, but I love iron jugulis's design
I never knew i needed a Chibi Version of Hydreigon he look so cute
I feel like Iron Jugulis would be much cooler if they had just diverged a tiny bit from Hydreigon. Maybe replace the wings with that future Paradox glowing energy to make it like a booster pack, or let the side heads detach to act as drones. Fully commit to a weird, robotic Hydreigon rather than only going halfway and making it basically the same.

I’ll be honest, when I heard “Tera ice” I smiled a bit. The idea of a frozen apple being possessed by a hydra is…cool
And not just tera ice, DEFENSIVE tera ice.
Fickle Beam is an example of a tamed OHKO move. Instead of outright killing the enemy 30% of the time, it instead deals double damage with the same odds. Instead of doing absolutely nothing 70% of the time, it deals mediocre damage. What I like about Fickle Beam is that since it's tamed like this, it respects the type chart, stats and sustained damage.
I'd love to see some, if not all of the OHKO moves be treated like this, where you can have the high variance as a desperation move if you want, without making the game a complete dice roll.
Honestly, its a pretty reliable STAB, too. 80 BP is no earthquake, but it's certainly still going to hit pretty hard coming off of 120 SpA. It's a naïve hope, but I truly do hope that in the future, more pokemon are designed - mechanics wise - like Hydrapple.
Alternatively, I'd love to see conditional OHKO moves with 100% accuracy, like a move that only OHKOs if the opponent has -3 in a particular stat or something (like if it has -3 or less attack, destroy the opponent). Alternative lose conditions and such. It might also make debuffing moves more viable.
Hydrapple's flavourful and inspired design is truly insane.
I can't with the manscaped adds they're too funny, it's even better when they get someone like jim who can say literally anything with a straight face

I’m a big fan of Hydrapple’s visual design (big fan of the whole line aesthetically), and I love its less overtuned game design, with so many weird and unique combinations of traits. It’s so cool to me that the sticky hold set has seen the most success, despite having one of the most broken abilities in the game and a silly signature move, it actually leverages everything else it has to counter a specific type of threat that otherwise instantly invalidates many bulkier teams. Just a group of weird little guys doing unusual things.

I unironnicaly really enjoy Garganacl, I know it has been a nightmare on early gen 9 ou, but I think it's a very cool pokemon with a neat design and concept. You can build it in a variety of ways and even though it's kinda thanks to under the counter help by game freak it's cool to see a pure rock type being a defensive menace again
Its interesting that sticky hold still makes Hydrapple take endless double damage from Knock Off. But it's still not bad.

Hydrapple is so freaking cool. Both design wise and gameplay wise. I think my favorite new design in Gen 9 is Raging Bolt, it’s just so fantastical and eye catching with the color scheme

I like Scovillain, the funny food-themed monster on the opposite end of the flavor-pallet spectrum. I just wish that it was better designed in its stats and utility, and Spicy Extract was a more interesting move

Agreed that this one of the coolest new mons of the gen, cheesiness of Fickle Beam aside, which I’m not the biggest fan of. I kind of wish Flapple and Appletun also get evolutions along similar lines

Another thing about fickle beam is it's average power is 104. This is good, but also unstable. That feels managable. Feels fine
9:20 As far as the tera type on Hydrapple goes, you actually want ice, the tera blast is just a bonus. You want to resist Meow's grass ice moves and Weavile's triple axel. If you want an alternate tera type, steel is probably useable.
I’m wondering where Hydrapple found a bigger and bigger apple. Like that is a HUGE apple breed.
I actually like that OU is chaotic. I prefer that to seeing the same Pokémon and teams and moves over and over again.

I think the only “dilemma” I have with Hydrapple and this isn’t really the mon’s fault but the fact that Dipplin, a Pokémon from the previous generation that already had two evolutions gets a third one that evolves twice is a bit excessive. Especially, considering there are so many older mons that desperately need love. However, I do agree with your points of Hydrapple being well-designed.

I use a choice specs Hydrapple in ranked battle spot. Regenerator works brilliantly with moves like draco meteor and leaf storm.
Tera water hydro pump can also break annoying things like iron defense Corviknight!

Actually I liked a few of the lower-power-level designs of this gen as well, but it's a shame they are overshadowed by weird and/or uninspired paradox 'mons and bizarre extension evolutions like Kingambit and Annihilape
If you don't have any gen 3 OU vids planned, could you talk about Banette next? He's my goat and it's pretty funny how he's one of three mons that actually wanna click their ghost stab in gen 3. Maybe there's a case where its higher base atk is worth the loss of sableye's psychic immunity?

I was devastated, thinking Probopass had sided with Iron Mugulis. I'm so glad that wasn't the case folks.
i love hydrapple it's my favourite gen 9 mon by far, and one i had a fair amount of success with in ou when it first came out. it's a genuinely great pokemon that matches up well into a lot of threats with it's unique and very useful defensive typing, and the ability to switch in to easily tank a hit before nuking something and switching out to heal. but the ridiculous distribution of triple axle and ice spinner to the most random pokemon you've ever seen makes it borderline unusable which really sucks. tusk and meow are the two most frustrating examples, since they run ice moves so commonly that there's no point switching in unless you plan to tera, so using hydrapple weakens your matchup into something it's supposed to counter. to be clear i don't have an issue with coverage moves it's just really annoying that so many physical attackers have physical ice coverage, i'm a gen 3 enjoyer i want great tusk to be forced to use special hp ice. also fun fact for my uu enjoying friends hydrapple learns sucker punch and you can really p*ss people off with surprise priority

Even though Hydrapple is a UU pokemon, it’s definitely useful as a regenerator pivot in bulky offense. It’s definitely niche, but I think it’s viable

I remember being disappointed in Gen 8 that Applin’s Evolutions weren’t wormier (or well, wyrm-ier). Now not only do we have TWO new Evos for Applin that are super weird and wormy, but the final Evo’s actually GOOD!
Fickle Beam is essentially a 104 base power move without a drawback if you ignore that reliable 104 is much different than 80 that sometimes does 160 lol

Another great offensive regenerator user: Tornadus-T, good mixed coverage and u turn for pivoting
I will say 6 month later UU feels more like OU from other generations like 6 and seven and 8 without dynamax. The power level of UU is also insane some pokemon in the tier are ridiculously strong and it's weird.
I love this thing, i will try it in a bulky offense team in uu or maybe even OU because thats my favourite Playstyle and maybe this fruit-reptile hybrid will fit in great.
The hydrapple stall team uses poison sting amnesia bulldoze Clodsire. This is insane.

My only critique is that I wish all the heads would stay out instead of just the singular head, its a great pokemon and I love it, but I dislike that the only real time I see its other heads pop out is when it evolves and that 30% chance to boost damage on fickle beam.
