In the Manga, Mewtwo used a giant spoon to fight Deoxys after learning the technique from an Alakazam. Cubone and Tinkaton will always have a special place in my Mystery Dungeon teams
My personal headcannon with the Abra, Cubone, and Farfetched lines, is that they’re replacing their default item with an upgraded version. So a Marowack with a thick club item is in universe just a Marowack with a sturdier club. A Farfetched with the leek item is just a Farfetched with a sharper leek. To me that always made the most sense.
I mean, it would.make sence for Cubone and farfetched to just, have a second club or stick. How do you double the damage of your marowak? Give it a second bone! How do you double the chance of a critical hit with farfetchd? Give it a second stick! Is just that, with any item, they're aren't seen in game
That's what I thought too. Though that does raise the question of why using thief/knock off on marowak doesn't disable bone club and bonemerang outright.
There's also bombirdier. It throws rocks in official tcg artwork, it has the rocky payload ability, it knows rock throw and other similar moves, and it throws boulders at you in game.
Nope, plenty of other Pokémon can learn Grassy Glide and it’s a move tutor move - Rillaboom doesn’t learn it naturally. It’s just a Pokémon that uses it really well, along with its hidden ability.
Interesting video idea, thanks for sharing! It’s one of those things in Pokémon that you don’t necessarily think about all the time, but it sure is odd that some Pokémon use weapons and others don’t. Here are some I think you missed: Escavalier uses shelmet’s exoskeleton as a weapon (the spikes). Not sure if you would count Zacian/Zamazenta, since they do need the held items, but their form changes do have them using a weapon that is not a part of their body in their sprites. Braixen and Delphox both have stick wands that they use to cast their fire/psychic moves. Flabebe and Floette both have flowers which can be used as weapons. Oranguru carries leaves, and Passimian carries around a fruit/ball. Komala has its log (annoyingly the only part that changes when you find a shiny Komala, even though the log is definitely not a part of its body). Dhelmise uses the anchor (since it’s the seaweed wrapped around it that is the Pokémon). Technically the Applin lines apple is not a part of their bodies and they all have various apple based moves that they use. Sinistea and polteageist are the tea inside, not the cup or teapot. Just like Poltchageist and Sinistcha are the macha inside. And while both ghost lines mostly use those as defense, they also have moves related to the objects that they inhabit.
The *Pokemon has weapon but held item is the same weapon* problem could be resolved if we asume the Pokemon doesn't inherently have that item, we see it in the sprites and such bc that's a weapon that species is known to use as their main combat style, but in theory they don't need actually need it to fight So in lore, when you are giving a bent Spoon to Alakazam, a thick bone to cubone/marowak, a leek to farfetch'd, you are giving that weaponless pokemon their signature weapin, which is also why that weapon gives them a boost or a power up, bc they really are *_made_* to use those weapons
Rotom-rock would be an electric guitar, referencing rock music, and it's added rock-type move would be Power Gem, referencing power chords, common in rock music and commonly played by the electric guitar.
The Chansey line's Lucky Punch item also increases crit chance by 2 stages, giving it the same function as the leek. It's just never seen since Chansey is so clearly not an offensive pokemon outside of gen 1.
I'd argue chansey itself counts just from the egg. Softboiled and egg bomb are both eggs it laid. The other pokemon that got access to those moves when they were both in WERE eggs themselves, chansey is using a separate item. Happiny cant use egg bomb, nor lay eggs, and blissy/chansey lays them regardless of using the move i guess my entire argument is moot though since gen 8 changed that
Remember, if it's just a held item it doesn't count, so even though only the Chansey line can hold a Lucky Punch, it doesn't count. But the egg bomb thing would count.
I think the easiest answer to the question of Pokemon with weapons that are not necessarily physically attached to their body would be the fact that they channel Infinity energy for a good portion of their attacks. It's likely that Pokemon with weapons use those weapons in the same way certain types of fantasy wizards use their wands as a means to focus said Infinity energy for their attacks, and thus the weapon carries the same energy signature as the Pokemon in question thus leading to the pokeball being able to capture a Pokemon along with its weapon due to reading both of them as only one energy signature.

I think the only “in universe logic” you could use to justify some pokemon being allowed to keep weapons, is that essentially anything a single pokeball can pull in counts as a pokemon, that’s why execute and dugtruo and magnaton all count as a single pokemon, and that same logic would apply to the weapon wielding pokemon too, if the pokeball grabs it up its fair game. To be fair though, there are a ton of examples of held items also getting sucked into a pokeball so that logic doesn’t totally hold up. But held items can also be used by any pokemon and the pokemon with weapons are usually the only ones who can use their item, so you could create a classification for them where anything that gets sucked up by a pokeball but can’t be used by other pokemon is a weapon that counts as part of its user.
Shouldn’t be disturbing that Pokémon use weapons when apes like chimpanzees and even regular monkeys like capuchin monkeys, are considered to be at the Stone age level of tool usage. Meanwhile a sea urchin in the Pokémon world perfectly understands human speech. So of course at least the human egg group Pokémon NOT use tools. And several Pokémon can be said to not have the motor abilities to use tools.
I enjoy little universe oddity vids like this. Reminds me of when I used to watch The Dex and they had a segment on Pokemon that wear clothes. Ultimately, it's not that deep since this all comes from a children's game. But it's still fun to look at these un-animal traits of what are basically animals!
The thing that bothers me about the Conkeldurr line isn't that they use weapons. It's that they have the ability Iron Fist, and clearly use Punching Moves. Why do they even have the weapons in the first place if they're just going to use Mach Punch and Close Combat?
Close Combat doesn't necessarily have to be punches and kicks, it's just the Pokémon recklessly physically attacking the opponent. Arcanine can learn Close Combat and probably uses its teeth/claws since its arms don't articulate in such a way to punch someone effectively. Likewise, Mach Punch is just a strike that's too fast for the opponent to see, so maybe the Conkeldurr line thrust their weapons into the opponent instead of punching them.
small detail about the Rotom drone, that form is in the games as well watch closely during the Galar Gym Battles if you wanted to take an anime sample, you could have chosen a Pokémon Center (yeah, it happened in the Alola anime, as an ending gag)
Dhelmise is ghostly grass that uses an anchor, which is why its not steel type. The oshawott line carries around a shell that it uses as a sword. Probopass has those tiny drones that it uses to attack. Generations even showed how each of the drones and shoot lazers.
not related to this, but i find the flying taxi service in gen 9 so interesting since the DLC's employed a different bird to use, with Kitakami using Noctowl and the BB Academy using Skarmory
Floette and Flabebe both use their flowers as transportation and weapon. Eternal Floette in particular uses her flower as a ray gun. Braixen and Delphox carries a magic wand to direct and channel their energies at, the most basic thing they can do with that stick is literally poking and stabbing with it.
You said that the Leek is the only item which boosts a critical hit ratio by 2 but Chansey gets the Lucky Punch item which did the same in past generations
While they're not all weapon based the male SWSH protagonist in the Adventures manga almost exclusively trains Pokemon that use tools, like Gurdurr and Mr. Rime, because he specialises in fixing Pokémon tools. Might be interesting for you to look into based on this video.
6:48 It says Dreepy is the ghost of a prehistoric pokemon, most prehistoric creatures were known to live in herds where they all help out each other in raising and defending the young so It could be all the options you listed.
Funny how Marowak and cubone get so many bone moves and are said to use them specifically against mandibuzz but those moves are ground and ghost type, which it is either immune to or resists. As for pokemon you missed is escavelier, I dont think the lances they use are part of its body.
"Anything that a Pokemon holds, rides or throws that's not part of its body" That Maushold with Population Bomb tho.....using your own children as weapons by throwing them at your opponent.
2:18 Little nuance here, only Galarian Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd carry leeks. Kantonian Farfetch'd carry green onions, not leeks. The Pokédex even goes so far as to be vague in later generations and say it carries various sticks and stalks, but generation one says it's a green onion, which is what it holds in the official artwork.
We should get a Regional form for Kadabra/Alakazam being Fighting types using knives. Potentially, Cinderace might also apply here, since it uses a pebble to use Pyro Ball for... same for it and Inteleons G-Max forms, that use weapons that aren't part of them.
the rotom form video would be sick, but i also think it'd be cool if you rearranged the stats (or even gave it additional stats) in accordance with its new forms. Always seemed like a missed opportunity to me that the rotom forms don't change stats or abilities at all
Theres actually an interesting character in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga (Sword&Shield arc) that is specialized in Pokémon weapons. Might want to look him up, his name is Sou, because Sword. Mega Sableye gains a huge Ruby if that counts. Also, Mantine is Dragapult before Dragapult. They uses Remoraid to shoot water guns. Galarian Slowbro have the Shellder hand cannon

If Game Freak wanted to be cheeky they could remove these pokemons ability to use Held Items since their "weapons" could qualify
I love Tinkaton for being an absolute gremlin. It being unable to touch Corviknight in battle is a genuine travesty.
I enjoy little universe oddity vids like this. Reminds me of when I used to watch The Dex and they had a segment on Pokemon that wear clothes. Ultimately, it's not that deep since this all comes from a children's game. But it's still fun to look at these un-animal traits of what are basically animals!
I'd like to see that video idea: If Rotom had a Form for Every Type.
Imagine a Minotaur Pokemon with a battle-axe. But Aegislash is literally a ghostly sword that carries a shield.
The video about rotom forms would be an absolute banger
The thing that bothers me about the Conkeldurr line isn't that they use weapons.
It's that they have the ability Iron Fist, and clearly use Punching Moves.
Why do they even have the weapons in the first place if they're just going to use Mach Punch and Close Combat?
True
Close Combat doesn't necessarily have to be punches and kicks, it's just the Pokémon recklessly physically attacking the opponent. Arcanine can learn Close Combat and probably uses its teeth/claws since its arms don't articulate in such a way to punch someone effectively. Likewise, Mach Punch is just a strike that's too fast for the opponent to see, so maybe the Conkeldurr line thrust their weapons into the opponent instead of punching them.
small detail about the Rotom drone, that form is in the games as well
watch closely during the Galar Gym Battles
if you wanted to take an anime sample, you could have chosen a Pokémon Center (yeah, it happened in the Alola anime, as an ending gag)
You could argue mimiku has a cloak he uses for disguise in battle. His real body is under the sheet making that his “weapon” kind of
The Samurott line uses its shells weapons, Braixen and Delphox use sticks, Maushold throws its babies
Dhelmise is ghostly grass that uses an anchor, which is why its not steel type. The oshawott line carries around a shell that it uses as a sword. Probopass has those tiny drones that it uses to attack. Generations even showed how each of the drones and shoot lazers.
I never knew that about Dragapult! Thanks for the fun video!
Zacian And Zamazenta Use A Rusted Sword/Shield To Power Up And To Attack You With.
not related to this, but i find the flying taxi service in gen 9 so interesting since the DLC's employed a different bird to use, with Kitakami using Noctowl and the BB Academy using Skarmory
I personally would love a room of every type video
Floette and Flabebe both use their flowers as transportation and weapon. Eternal Floette in particular uses her flower as a ray gun.
Braixen and Delphox carries a magic wand to direct and channel their energies at, the most basic thing they can do with that stick is literally poking and stabbing with it.
farfetch'd is probally like deer where it is both plural and the other one.. its both
I’ll argue Delphox bc unlike Braixen you don’t see the stick on its body until it uses it
The Plural form of any pokemon is just the pokemon's name. Its like Sheep and Sheep
I wasn’t looking for the plural form, I was looking for the possessive
@@x_bell1142 sorry.
Please do a Rotom of every type video. That'd be so cool to see
I was surprised he didn’t mention the oshawott line, Samurott pretty much has two swords
I think a Rotom for every type video would be cool
You said that the Leek is the only item which boosts a critical hit ratio by 2 but Chansey gets the Lucky Punch item which did the same in past generations
I like that Rotom video idea.
this isn’t using a weapon in battle but it’s cool how the early designs of remoraid and octillery resembled a gun and a tank
Rotom Drone is in Sword and Shield
Conqueldur/Tinkaton team core to beat the game would go hard af
A pokemon you missed us dhelmise since the pokemon is the seaweed and it tosses the anchor around
That will be in part 2!
I would so watch a video about potential rotoms.
Also one mon you missed is Cramorant! It uses other Pokémon like Pikachu as a weapon in game.
Funny how Marowak and cubone get so many bone moves and are said to use them specifically against mandibuzz but those moves are ground and ghost type, which it is either immune to or resists. As for pokemon you missed is escavelier, I dont think the lances they use are part of its body.
3:19 He just does his best Zoro impression
The leek is not the only item that increases crit by 2. You forgot about the obscure item “lucky punch” that does the same but only for chansey.
"Anything that a Pokemon holds, rides or throws that's not part of its body"
That Maushold with Population Bomb tho.....using your own children as weapons by throwing them at your opponent.
Population bomb is a slice move so probably that its the mouses attacking in succession
A common American house hold item is a gun so say hello to rotom shoot a steel electric type! 5:54
Always seemed like a missed opportunity to me that the rotom forms don't change stats or abilities at all
"Why cant my pokemone use a gun"
Glickichu, i choose you!
Rillaboom has the drum hidden in his back.
chansey also has a signature held item that increases its critical hit rate by the same amount as the leek does called lucky punch.
True, I forgot that
Theres actually an interesting character in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga (Sword&Shield arc) that is specialized in Pokémon weapons. Might want to look him up, his name is Sou, because Sword.
Mega Sableye gains a huge Ruby if that counts. Also, Mantine is Dragapult before Dragapult. They uses Remoraid to shoot water guns. Galarian Slowbro have the Shellder hand cannon
It's like the people who make the Pokemon games all just do whatever the hell they want without consulting with each other, and just hope that it all fits together in some remotely plausible way.
