- Which is the better liquid rust remover: The All-American Evapo-Rust or the British-born Deox-C?
*Sorry about the audio issues in the first few minutes. And for the dirty gloves. I gave away most of my disposable gloves, so I'm trying to wash and re-use what I can.

StudioVRM is not affiliated with Evapo-Rust or Bilt Hamber. Which is good, because I don't think either of them would be terribly happy with me after watching this video.

I was looking before this video: Evapo-Rust is advertised everywhere, but the cost put me off. I 'settled' for DeoxC and it's working great - glad to see this video confirms my findings.
Even in Australia it is not well known but evaporust seems to be known. Thanks for the review. I am planning on using Deox-C in a motorcycle fuel tank.
These type of products seem to loosen the rust before they fully remove it, so it helps to wire brush the loose stuff off under the tap/fawcett at intervals during the derusting process, it speeds up the overall time to get to the final result and helps the derusting fluid last longer as it stops some of the rust getting into the solution - since they contain chelating chemicals that can only grab a certain amount of iron weight for weight of the active ingredient.
Bilt Hamber products are amazing but even here in the UK they don't seem to be distributed a whole lot. I've always ended up buying directly from them.
That's a surprise. I wonder why they haven't put their products on store shelves or on Amazon. I feel like the classic car community would love everything they make.
You are way to kind to Evapo-Rust XD BH kicked ass and you are very kind and diplomatic to not say it out loud :)
Haha. You got me there.
Good test. Ever since I discovered Bilt Hamber products I've never used anything else. They make some other pretty amazing products as well.
Very useful video as I embark on a rust removal exercise on my project car. Thanks for creating!
Bilt Hamber products are fantastic. I've been using their Surfex HD water based degraser (even diluted 1:100 is still very effective for cleaning), Korrosol fallout remover and Autowheels wheel cleaner and fallout remover in one.
I've messaged BH a few times about products in the U.S. and the hard part is them getting a distributor. So many Americans want to buy American or buy what they know and the market is already quite full over there that few want to sell BH.
Which is a shame as Bilt Hamber do a product called Atom Mac, which is a-
"Atom-Mac is a migratory and contact corrosion inhibitor that is diluted in water before use. It provides protection against corrosion in both open spaces and hollow voids. The powerful migratory phase corrosion inhibitors are liberated from the product and are carried in vapour phase to form an invisible atomic shield against corrosion of ferrous metal."
Korrosol usually used on bodywork as I believe it’s less harsh than Auto wheels.
To help break down dirt, oils and road grime dilute to 1 part product to 5 parts water, or even 1:3. You may use % rather than parts 1:10 for example. To clean dashboard, Door Cards and Carpets dilute 1 part product 50 parts water (1:50). Even down to 1% is good
To clean and protect rubber, plastics you may suggest diluting to 1:10. 2-4%
This is my recommendation but you have to choose your best for the car you have.
I love BH and have used it now for 3 yrs.
I've used Deox C a lot, it's good, great for nuts and bolts, it will take zinc plating off so fasteners will need re plating. I've also used the gel form but found it's not quite as good, I'm not sure that the Deox C isn't just citric acid crystals though, may be worth looking into.
All the Bilt Hamber stuff is superb, great product, swear by them.
Bilt Hamber all day long 👍
Man that deox c is amazing.
Bilt Hamber products are brilliant. In fact, my opinion is that BH products and after-sales are just pluperfect.
We also did a follow-up test to see if these two products were actually safe for clean metals. The writeup is now available on StudioVRM.net at this link: studiovrm.net/racing-secrets/are-evapo-rust-and-deox-c-really-safe/
You want to get it in the USA. It's fantastic stuff. BH car care products are fantastic too.
Because of your video I now use Deox C instead of white vinegar. Evaporust is way too expensive (especially here in the U.K.) so have never tried it - and never will now - thanks 👍
Hi, I have a question, why did you switch from vinegar (5 or 10%?) to BH Deox C? I just recently derusted motorbike security chain (Pragmassis, UK made) what was still partialy covered by factory (nickle, zinc?) plating and vinegar turned that plating to soft black coating what was easy to remove with pressure washer. I was very surprised, did not planned that. I saw this video where this guy used Deox Gel to remove rust spots from chrome bumper on Triumph: ua-cam.com/video/PRgRXE9jTPI/v-deo.html
Do you have experience how BH Deox C or BH Deox Gel is reacting on zinc, nickle plated surfaces? Does it remove it? Thanks.
Thanks for the video. From the UK and never heard of this stuff, although they do seem to sell it on Amazon. Wonder how it would compare to Krud Kutter. That stuff is supposed to be awesome.
I use all Bilt Hamber products. Works fantastic.
@@ArronMurray Yup... subsequently bought some, and I'm really impressed!
is deox c good for penetrating? if you've got a seized bolt with a nut on it, is it good enough to dissolve the rust between the nut and bolt?
I tested this too, and the answer seems to be no. A lot of penetrating oils work because they contain powerful solvents that push out the stuff that gets caught between two frozen parts and creates space for more of it to get in. These chelating agents don't seem to be able to do the same thing.
I've actually had some success in freeing rusted components using DeoxC
Is that you lockpickinglawyer?
"As you can see, the security provided by these rust removal products is laughable at best. So I can say that both of them are best suited for restoration projects instead of protecting any valuables."
Hi, if I use deoxc for fuel tank. Do I need sealer coating after to prevent rust? Thanks.
Yes, I would recommend sealing and rustproofing the work pieces after the fact. From what I can tell deox-c does not have a sealer / rust preventative in it.
@@StudioVRM thank you
@@StudioVRM Bilt Hamber have suggested using their Atom Mac product.
@@bitTorrenter Thanks! Sounds like I need to air mail a bottle over to this side of the pond.
$40 ! Wow. It’s £12.99 in uk
Yeah if they sold it for that little in the US they would probably run evapo-rust out of business.
@@StudioVRM Their products are all very well priced.
Ive just spent £35 on 5L of Evaporust and is absolute crap. A total waste of money. For a fraction of the price I think DeoxC is much, much better.
I have not seen a product that can beat it. If there is I'd like to know.
Essex agricultural? lol
Came looking for this comment and here it is!

lol, inkjet printer. Get yourself a laser and no more runny ink.
Might have to this year. My printer is so old that Canon is threatening to stop making cartridges for it.
@@StudioVRM the Brother laser printers seem to be a great deal in the color laser department
