@@itsmemike1153 if the heat is gas yes, if it's electric, the bill for all the units combined will make for serious rent increases. also depending on the owner they'd rather go cheaper and just install another tank. Regular yearly maintenance is the only way to get these tanks to last as long as possible
Oh wow, good call coming through the closet don’t know if I would have thought about that. Lowe’s has some recirculating pumps. Good job thanks for letting us tag along. Have a safe and blessed day my friend!
My property has a similar setup for heat. We have issues with sediment and scale clogging the lines. Have to drain the whole system. Replace piping and purge. It’s a pain.
that m12 rotary always comes in clutch. Not sure if you noticed yours do this but recently mine has surges where it goes at the speed it set to then slows down and speeds back up. don't know if it's the dial that is defective or something else. Wonder if I'll need to warranty it. still works otherwise
I would have built a shelf up from the floor to put the new water heater on, and then run the pipes over to the right, and put the circulator up above the water heater out of the way so future maintenance would be easier. Maybe even a catch pan under the water heater for when it inevitably leaks and ruins your weekend. Not saying at all what you did was wrong, it's beautiful work, but since you're in there working, might as well make your future easier.
Ray, have you ever used the oscillating tool on cuts like this drain and if so why pick saw over oscillator? I am avid DIYer and respect all your knowledge in doing all this work.
Hey man just a heads up. Those Rheem water heaters from HD are garbage. I no longer install them for anyone . I had 3 in a row over the last year that were leaking from the weld-a- let's . One was at the top element on an electric heater and two leaking from the top that accept the 3/4" nipples. They are defective from the factory . I was getting call backs for water on the floor and dug the insulation out of the top around the nipple and water weeps through the welds. Rheem honors the warranty no problem but its a hassle and takes a month to get paid from them for the warranty work. The one i witnessed leaking around the element was one i checked before i left due to the issues i had with the others. Do not waste time with home depot or lowes , buy the heaters from supply houses, they are better. ...or just get rheem Marathon heaters . They cost a ton of bread but lifetime warranty ✌️
The one to go to the other side of the house was for hot water domestic which would’ve been a taco 006 stainless steel expensive the 007 is OK for your use for hot water circulation for heat !
Based on that toilet, the gas shutoff valve, and a gas water heater on the inside of an apartment building I’d say that place was built in the very early 70s or before. It’s a given the engineer is not working anymore. Also the original water heaters may have been smaller and the piping was probably galvanized coming from the wall. So I don’t think it’s fair to blame it all on the engineer.
They heat that apartment with a hot water heater? I guess it is tiny but. Only saw that on you tube where guys trying to heat their garage with a hot water heater in floor heating...never works out that great cost wise...eh I dont know. But I guess it works there hehe.
That B&G circulator a bronze circulator??? If not then it’s contaminated domestic water. Can’t use a standard heating circulator in a domestic water application….. cast iron circulator body causes water contamination.
That is not the right pump for domestic water. The housing has to be rated for domestic a lot more money then standard circulator for closed loop heat. 006 (3/4" Threaded) Stainless Steel Circulator 1/40 HP. Taco makes
As someone that is a renter in an apartment, i sure do appreciate your videos. Please keep them coming. Thank you.
Brother I don’t know what they pay you but you are worth every penny of it and then some!
@phillyfathead thanks, the funny thing is-- i only have this property for 2 more weeks and the other maintenance man will have to do this work.
Spaces that tight you should just switch it out to a tankless and hang it on the wall!

Should put a 007 taco circulator in much lighter than a big B & G circulator !

@sunoclockoneday2576 i can't get WH from supply house, i am only able to get from L or HD . Thanks for the info 👍
@Raysmaintenance dang. Next time you do one if you see water around the nipples you'll know what it is .

Also should put a shut off under circulator so you can isolate it later if you don’t want to drain heater again to change out circulator if needed
deff didnt need to cut the wall open but what do i know
Hopefully whoever the engineer designed this, is no longer working. What a mess. Hope you get a huge Holiday bonus and not just a ham.

@442olds7 it work great until you have to replace the water heater 😆.
Aquatherm air handlers tied to the water heater. Very common in apartments.
