I read there will be 7500mhz lpddr5x ram availble for the 7940hs variant with 12 cu at 3000mhz so that seems really good for the igpu performance

You should also mention Nvidia's scam. They pretty much fully brought back M GPUs to laptops without bringing back the laptop name. Now, if I want a **70 class GPU laptop I need to buy a 4080m one, and it's ONLY installed in premium models, whereas you could get a 3070m(less cores but still based on desktop 3070) in budget laptops like Asus TUF, Nitro 5, HP Omen and Legion 5\5 pro. I hate Nvidia, and honestly so should everybody.

@@zzzzsssz blanket statements are never a good idea. rdna2 GPUs, especially in the lower to mid-range, are a much better value, and in my opinion the best values for just gaming overall. rdna3 is definitely in a bit of a rough patch.
as for Ryzen: the original zen 4 CPUs are a tough sell to be sure. Platform costs are real. Considering the new models that are coming out nowadays, though, that could very well change. the non-x models are already a better value.
nowadays am4 is a pretty good value too with the likes of the 5600 or 5800X3D

Thing is, nvidia in all their shittyness still provides better reliability for those who use their cards, especially in the editing field, they have(or at least had) much better drivers than AMD and definitely intel, so people like me, who are casual gamers but also does editing works, nvidia is usually the inevitable choice, for the simple 'even if it is overpriced it will still work' logic
I'm not up to date with tech news though so I'm not sure if AMD drivers are still as bad as 3 years ago when I built my pc, but I hope that both AMD and intel gets their drivers sorted out, Nvidia does deserve an awakening after all

I think people need to put the last few years into perspective. The pandemic caused an enormous explosion in client computing needs, desktops, laptops, PC gaming industry practically tripled in less than a year, combining that with manufacturing and availability issues, and you had a recipe for serious trouble. At the same time, AMD managed to finally surpass Intel in many areas of performance and efficiency, partly due to Intel's incompetence, but more impactful was TSMC's continued process node improvements coupled with AMD betting on chiplet technology. The chiplet CPU architecture is both the reason why AMD was able to destroy Intel on price while still remaining very profitable, yet also be their Achilles heel. AMD's decision to basically focus on a single 8-core core complex chip per Zen evolution across their entire consumer and datacenter product line (excluding zen4c), when you combine that with the fact that TSMC can only make so many of these chiplets, the fact that their Epyc datacenter chips carry much higher profit margins for those same components, and finally the fact that AMD now has to share TSMC processes node manufacturing capacity with Intel, Nvidia, Apple and others, it was always going to create a bottleneck. With only one source for any Zen 4 CCX's across those product lines, they don't have enough to fill out an entire portfolio stack, at least not without leveraging TSMC's previous process node manufacturing capacity. When TSMC launches a new production process node, it's not like they phase out the previous node, those factories and manufacturing production lines are still fully functional and have honestly just begun to enter their most profitable manufacturing phase, as yields max out, and it's not like there is a shortage of customers looking for 7nm, even 10nm products, new process node wafers are produced on entirely new and standalone production lines.
So, AMD, rather than cannibalizing their high margin 4nm and 5nm datacenter stock just to flesh out mid-range and entry level products, they're using the previous Gen Zen node capacity to get products into those price points.
Trust me, if TSMC could supply more Zen4 CCX's, I'm sure AMD would prefer having more current Gen Zen in their current offerings. TSMC also needs to be cautious, it would be a huge mistake to invest in 10 additional fab factories only to have demand collapse, they'd much prefer always having to turn away half of potential buyers while increasing prices (profits) than end up with excess unused capacity.
So, to summarize, Zen chiplet architecture of nearly every using ryzen and Epyc processor using the same 8-core CCX was genius, as was betting on TSMC, growing their business by 10X in 8 years, but now they're competing for limited TSMC production capacity with their primary competition, so they're forced to be creative to fill out their portfolio. It sucks, but nothing we can do, alternative is to just not launch new products in those segments and watch Intel capture all that revenue.

Just hold on for the second half of this year for Intel's Meteor Lake chips. Intel Altera is the industry leader in FPGA tech far outperforming anything from Xilinx. Moreover, 14th gen is supposed to be a another significant architectural overhaul.

Good that I picked up a zenbook with a 6800U. It is definitely a great buy. I am extremely happy with this .

It's still a nice piece of HW, have fun using it... I went with the Vivobook (5000 series) with dGPU for Photoediting... It's just a fat Zenbook without the premium design :)

Good video. My first time watching you and I was really surprised by your voice. It's an amazing radio voice, which has ASMR qualities to it, and you are so well spoken. I wouldn't be surprised if you do voice over work. Really enjoyed the info about the AMD graphics chips. I didn't know they were rebranding old chips to basically deceive buyers. You would think consumer protection agencies would be on top of these types of shenanigan's.
Kind of sad that by the time these become widely available (late summer 2023), we'll start to talk about the Ryzen 8000 series and Strix point APU.

As if mobile parts names from all brands cpu/gpu isn't a mess in general though. Not just namings even but also cores/clocks and TDPs too. So some general research always good to do no matter if you're tech savvy or not. It will also matter how they all stack perf/effi/price wise. So if it's really well and reflects gens good, ok then, on the other hand just get latest gen.
Personally I'd like to see a 3D-cache SKU though. Probably along with higher dGPUs range later.
If you are wondering how 7600M XT is the same thing as 7700S, you can check 6600M and 6700S.

We already had an issue where people were buying laptops thinking 2000, and 3000 laptops were using the same chips as the desktop 2000 and 3000.
I do hope they put more effort into clarifying which generation is being used tho.
If Zen 3 laptops are priced well due to the increased supply from moving focus away from Milan based Epyc chips along with the maturing 7nm and 6nm, I hope it would lead to a better market.
Would love to have access to Zen 4 laptops, but I'm sure they'll cost an arm and a leg. At the same price, definitely Zen 4, but if it means saving several hundred dollars, Zen 3 seems like the better option. Shame though since Zen 4 seems like a beast in Laptops.

I’m really hoping for a RYZEN 7 7840U in the next GPD Win4 handheld gaming pc for Christmas 2023.
Ir would be good if they use the last number for the iGPU instead of useless "feature isolation", ie: 0 for Vgea, 1 for RDNA2 and 2 for RNDA3. I would rather get a Zen2+RDNA3 compared to a Zen4+Vega for an UltraBook or Tablet. Gaming Laptop can go Zen4+Vega cos there will be a dGPU anyway.

To AMD's credit, while the naming scheme is new and will cause confusion at the start, the information is written out so that if you know what you're looking for you can immediately see what kind of AMD processor is inside. This is assuming the old and rebranded chips have been optimized to work well on modern hardware and AMD isn't increasing the prices simply because it has a 7 at the front of the name (i know, wishful thinking there). There are folks who want a bare bones PC for simple tasks. I figure old processors are better in a purchased laptop than stuck in a warehouse never to see the light of day.

You should expect the opposite. They will not be optimized and of course will be more expensive just because it has a 7 in the name
@@ABaumstumpf nope, it is optimized. Here in Indonesia, there were some tech reviews that review the new 7020 series and surprisingly it's a min. 15% faster on Cinebench and Geekbench compared to the 4000 series which also Zen 2.

You explained it really well... and I'm totally confused.
I like the fact they add the Zen generation in the name. I also like they change numbers based on the year so you can tell how old the actual laptop is. I assume they improve the older processes and generations. Before I would have had to search the laptop's model number to know when it was launched. This way it's easier to weed out old designs when helping people shop
For unsavvy people despite architecture confusion, it makes more sense, bigger numbers in every column is a better laptop cpu simple, if still a bit confusing based on order. For someone savy or willing to quickly search up it is pretty quick to get. And weird configs probably won't come up anyway
You need a chart to work out the code. Buying something shouldn't involve solving a puzzle.

The 4nm chips ex. 7640HS can do 4K at 240 Hz , thats crazy amount of GPU power.(regular use framerate, not gaming)
3:50 I actually like the naming scheme, you can get a fairly accurate idea of what you are getting if you know what to look for in a single number, and the longer and more detailed the processor model number is the easier you can Google it and find out more specific specs... MOST laptop buyers are business people who just email all day or grade schoolers, they have no idea and don't really care what they buy, but now the option is there to know exactly what you are getting in a single model number string for those who actually truly care. This is actually a fair take on it.
It's always been a balance of creating a scheme that is easy read and one that shows as much info as possible. But I do think AMD really dropped the ball on this one because the main problem comes from them having to cram all of these Zen generations onto a single 7000 series.
Zen2 competed with 9th gen Intel. After looking at AMD’s marketing, if Intel tries to rebrand their 9th gen i7 chips as 13970 or something like that there would be riots in the online spheres. Every single UA-cam channels will be calling out the shenanigans. But now since it is AMD, most people are fine with it.

I'm curious, beyond a spike in stock price, what was the point of the announcement? You can't buy any product/laptops with these cpu's. Why did they not work with their hardware partners for a release date timed to their announcement?
It’s all about speed to market or perception of this, the CPU market is very competitive at the moment between Apple, AMD & Intel although AMD seems to be two steps ahead at the moment above the rest IMO

The 7xxx series has a naming code you can understand what is what. Intel is mixing up the numbers to confuse buyers and nvidia scams with watt and not M badge.

Just got a 6800H+680M thin laptop so I am not in the market. But the lower end chips looks powerful enough and efficient enough for students or office workers.
I like AMD's new naming system. Each number has a meaning, unlike Nvidia and Intel where it's all arbitrary. As long as I can show a customer a graph to explain the names, then I'm happy.

I just got a Huawei Magicbook X 14 that comes with the 7840HS (8 core Zen 4/ RDNA 3) for $700. If you are going to visit China, definitely consider getting one of these.

The consumer electronics industry is expected to have severely diminished demand in the third and fourth quarter. Lower availability is the only thing that they can do to keep prices close to MSRP and avoid the other issues low demand would entail.
I never understood what happened to the RS 6850M XT mobile dGPU that came mid last year. All tests showed that it was awesome, but almost never ended up in a laptop. Only in one ASUS and one Lenovo I think, and those weren't easy to get. The 7000-series doesn't seem to have a follow-up either. I am just more confused.
What are they they thinking? High-end mobile GPUs is where AMD really could take a big market share, ...if they wanted.

higher performance tier for a 16 core zen 4 cpu in 2023.
While the naming and lower tier of ryzen cpus for laptops might be pretty terrible, I'm relatively hopeful for the HX series cpus considering the efficiency amd has shown with the 7000 non-X desktop cpus. I actually think they have potential to take the laptop performance crown from intel because of it. GPUs are another story though.
Be very hopeful about wonderful battery life of monolithic 4N Phoenix die based 7040 series, but not 7045 HX, which uses a chiplet design, with lots of cache, and is a variant of desktop SKUs. For these, just achieving decent 5-6 hour battery life at light tasks would be good outcome. Lets see how it turns out, initial reviews are not very far away.

The naming for AMD CPUs I think is actually a little better than before. It's very much not obvious that odd numbered CPUs 5700u vs 5800u were using last gen architecture. The third number being 4 for Zen 4 makes more sense, but perhaps it should have been the second number? I think availability is much more concerning. I definitely want a Phoenix laptop with 1060-1070 like integrated performance, but it seems like it'll be very hard to obtain. I also am somewhat worried about RDNA 3. It's clear they didn't expect the architecture to fall so short in efficiency and performance

They couldn't use the second digit, because then the series would only top out at 7495. To customers well familiar with the "third digit from the end is very important" rule it would not look very appealing next to Intel's 12500 and up.

I disagree on the CPU naming scheme. The current situation is pretty messy: for example, In the same Ryzen 5000 series there are two very different architectures mixed altogether.

Well, starting with 7 and associating with 2023 is not the best, but I appreciate that every year that number will go up to better understand the production year.

Well, there's no room for intermediate architectures, maybe they'll discontinue them, but that's a big plus. It's very hard for a customer understand the difference between a Ryzen 5 5500U and a 5600U. Now it will be easier to spot the most important number of the name.

I'm actually going to find and get a laptop with 7035U which has 8 Zen3+ cores plus 3.3 TFLOPS of GPU power. It's pretty decent.
We all look carefully at number 3 and do not buy the old crap amd will be punished with money.
Ryzen 7 7735h vs intel i5 13500h? Which one you choose?
Intel are about 10-20% better at single core (many programs use single core), in multithreading they are about the same, synthetic benchmark shows that Ryzen are 4% better, same efficiency, so it comes down to integrated graphics, if you need it.
If you have dedicated GPU, i would go for i5 if price are fine, iGPU can do basic things like 4k movies, while you have dedicated GPU for serious things, if you do not have dedicated GPU, and you wanna use integrated graphic, i would go with R7, because if you compare Intel G7 80EUs with AMD 680M, its double the performance, so with R7 you get like GTX1650 in the CPU, if you do not use dedicated GPU.
I wish they would just make a giant lineup of mini PCs so they don't have to put a display or you could just plug it into your TV and have a PC I think those would sell really good just to use up all the leftover older SKUs
@nicknikes1557, what you noted (and also mentioned by @lubossoltes321) is a big trend that I think we'll see more of soon. How many people just by a laptop because that's what people buy these days, but have no need at all to be portable? The outfits like Minisforum and Beelink do a good job covering the space with a wide variety of CPU options. Add the new M2 Mac Mini to that, and I see the tower PC as becoming something that is so 2010s (within a couple years) except for the most zealous of gamers and people that need a true big workstation for their job.

In terms of naming, at least AMD will follow a pattern and they provide the codex for it.
Meanwhile at intel, how tf is an i5 11300H a 4 core and the i5 11260H a much faster 6 core, and they all launch with 4 digit units like 1135G7 for example

Yes you should. Anything from the 7020 series, including the 7520U, is hot garbage.
I am also waiting for 7840U as capable allrounder and power efficient CPU for laptop. I hope they had their product in mid 2023.
The new Amd number scheme is better when comparing to old scheme for me.
As they have generation indicator, I don't need to remember or find spec in wiki too much.
It would be really cool, but you can't even find 6000U laptops right now. I think the reality is that 7000U is not going to be a thing for a while, maybe even as late as 2024.
This naming scheme feels like a way to shove older designs into new names. Some of these chips should have been named like refreshes of their actual generations. So, a 7x20U chip could probably just be a 4x50 or 5x50 instead, and a 7x35 feels like a 6x50 or 6x70.
Those chip will go to customers hand. It’s basically amd telling u if ur not smart and don’t do enough studies, prepare to get fked😅
I almost bought one until I finally figured out what i was buying was a 5000 zen 3 refresh. I feel very home in desktop chips but trying to figure out the mobile market is very very hard. It's like nobody cares about mobile chips.

The naming scheme makes it without a doubt the easiest way to know exactly what you are getting
And if your smart enough then in a few years after a few generations of this naming scheme, the smarter people among the tech world will be able to get more performance or identical performance for the same price
Reason being 2 iterations of essentially the same CPU can exist at once with the only difference between manufacturing year and or iGPU generation
And if you dont use the iGPU then you can get a better CPU side chip and use the dGPU
Looks like the AMD cpu versions of Lenovo’s legion line up are out. With Nvidia graphics only so far. Alienware is starting to ship all Amd systems though.

Still very unsure about getting AMD when comparing to the Pro 5i Intel variant with i7-13700HX/rtx4060 which costs about $140 more at my location.
@@theBartSimpson I just returned mine. Not because it wasn’t a great laptop, just because I didn’t have the time to use it. Lenovo is great. If you buy one, you have thirty days to change your mind and send it back for free, and no restocking fees either. I’d say go with the Pro 5 and if you don’t like it, send it back.

I am a software developer and I require a decent machine for my personal projects and learning and also occasional gaming.
Honestly, I do not require necessarily a quite high end one but a bit future safe machine doesn't hurt considering how inefficient the newer Windows OSs and other tools are.
MSVisual Studio pushes my current i5 11th gen upto 100%CPU utilisation.
A good GPU also allows to play games at higher settings.
Legion checks all:
-good build quality
-future proof configuration
-minimal design tone
The components are top notch with no compromises such as the Qhd screen, great keyboard, Intel WiFi card, faster 16gb ddr5 5200MHz Ram, 1080 webcam, 3 years warranty by default and extended Accidental cover at extra $35.
At the same time, the other brands may provide good specs at lower price but there is always a catch. Either the screen quality is not upto the mark or the rams are slower or the WiFi card isn't the cast Intel one.
So it looks like that the higher price of Legion is somewhere justified.
My only confusion was that whether the AMD R7 7745HX processor be good enough for next 5 years as there are cheaper options offering Intel i7-13700HX, which certainly is more powerful and the rebranded previous gen's flagship 12900 but thinking of skipping it as I might not be able to utilise its full potential and rather go with 7745HX that also looks like a good enough, powerful processor.
Wish I saw this before 3 days ago when I purchased a laptop running a 7735HS. The naming is a stupid way of literally throwing old chips into new computers. I don't delve in the computer realm very often, but last I checked in the 6k and older chipsets the higher the number is better, and always ment the latest generation; no matrixes to tell me what bingo cells means what performance. I am rather pissed I bought a Zen 3+ chip rather than a Zen 4.

AMD has always done this. Shoving in older gen chips into their newer laptop lines. One of the reasons I have always been ambivalent about getting an AMD powered laptop.
When I got mine I had to wait and wait for reviews on benchmarking etc. No point "pre-ordering" machines like this without seeing actual numbers.
the naming is deffinetely misleading, but I think its debatably better than calling a zen 2+ chip ryzen 5 5500u when it seems like it would be zen 3 like the 5600u, atleast you can easily tell for the most part what architecture each cpu uses now althought its a bit wierd that there is a 7045 series despite it not being zen 4+ somce that obviously not out yet maybe they shouldve had a different lettering and kept it as 7040 but idk
The Zen 2 7020 series are NEW 6nm designs, not rebranded older chips. It could be overwhelming, but the name does tell you exactly what a CPU is.
yup, here in indonesia, it shows improvement on performance, efficiency, and battery life compared to the 'same' Zen 2 4000 series.

The naming scheme is fine enough, while keeping a lot of detail in it (and therefore being honest). And there's nothing wrong with using older architectures in there as long as they are clearly demarked (which they are having their own number in the product name). The older architectures are also used for SKUs that most buyers won't care about the architecture for.
And the 7045 series have a gen older iGPU is fine considering they are designed for laptops that will have powerful dGPUs.
IT is not confusing, it is very detailed. Intel they sell you the same with new branding and Hi max watt.

I get that consumers (and audience) is confused when there are too many options. Unlike with Intel where i3/5/7/9 are roughly telling us what to expect from the laptop.
But if we are being honest... it is never enough. Every laptop has to go trough benchmarks and WE need channels like @JarrodsTech or @LinusTechTips. Shittin' on naming scheme adjustments... In the laptop domain it makes less and less sense.
Except they kinda don't call out nvidia's and amd's laptop gpu BS as much? The rx6800m is not based off a rx6800. So thats a BS name right there. Nvidia now not putting high end desktop gpu's in laptops is just BS again.

Never really been into the mobile market honestly. Interested me, like laptops and handhelds looking at the new ally x coming with the same Z1 extreme? Really confusing market. I’ve always had desktops just built a new rig with the super 40 series little while ago been amazing. Working on another house so i find myself away on the weekends bored pc is my only gaming system wife has consoles. Ended up with a steal at my local micro center yesterday. Lenovo LOQ Ryzen 5 7000 series, 16 gig ddr5 5600, rtx 4060, 1TB ssd for 749.99 and I actually didn’t even pay that cause the wife let me trade in our old Apple Watches that been sitting in the dresser since we got new ones. So I got like 570 off the 750 so I paid brand new for 170 bucks. My main rig blows it out the water, but can see myself doing some light gaming away from home in the city working on the other house in NH at night instead of staring at my phone lol😂 even when we move and I don’t really have use for it probably going to give to my wife so she can have a pc at her gaming work from home/school office.
I actually like the change. You can have a cheat sheet and know exactly what you are getting.

I like the new naming scheme, where the architecture is explicitly in the name. All companies have had different architectures used within the same generation before (except maybe Intel? But they are also kings of long confusing names). If they keep this scheme up, it will be nice knowing the architecture just by the name.
13400/(f) and i3s desktop are going to be based on alder lake and not raptor lake
Intel literally has 2 architectures on 13th Gen chips right now. Some chips are still alder lake and others are raptor lake. They have done it several times.
For me I prefer more easier name to remember
They should rename it like this
7450
7 = year generation
4 = zen generation
3 = Ryzen family
0 = stock speed
U = Ultrabook

I just got an alienware m18 with a 7945hx.
It was 400 dollars cdn cheaper than the i9 13980hx, and it was on sale for 200 bucks cheaper as well and is better than the intel chip accept the i9 beats it by 13% in single core.
🤷♂️ i wanted the intel at first but couldnt justify the cost.

3:28 No actually, it's not worse. It completely fixes the sh*t with the mobile 3000 series being Zen+ and desktop 3000 being Zen 2 and mobile 4000 was Zen 2 but mobile 5000 is sometimes somewhere in between Zen 2 and 3 but 6000 is Zen 3+, BUT NOT ALWAYS.
Well, my private laptop basically just a media player that support H265 decode, so in 2019 I bought one with athlon gold in it, just to replace my old 2012 laptop with 2nd gen i3.
Am happy GN showed us the wheel of fortune, all got a fair warning of the naming conundrums.
