New York should install emergency lights and program sequences on their traffic control systems. We have them in Minnesota. If an emergency vehicle approaches a controlled interesting, all directions except for the direction it is traveling turn red, allowing for the intersection to be cleared. It's a great system, and it shocks me when I see videos without such systems in place.
We have that all too common here in Orlando too, even one time I saw a Jimmy John's Delivery driver on a Bicycle cut off an Orlando Tower truck responding to a medical, I was like wow so someone's lunch is more important that someone in need of medical attention? Pfff and the thing is most people don't realize it could be their loved ones their responding too or their friend
Part of the issue now is cars are better insulated so it's hard to hear emergency vehicles, not impossible, but hard. I can only imagine what it's like in places with high rises like NYC.

I visit NYC once every couple of years and catch a house or two while there (I last buffed the City in 1988! FAR too long ago!) and noticed that each company STILL has to wait until members close the doors before leaving. Do you know why FDNY hasn't installed power door openers - it would cut down response times, but that may not be a concern with the numbers going on each alarm.
Edward, really? I thought there'd always be someone left in the building, like a janitor or dunno.. someone who can do just that: close the doors so the firefighters can get on with it.
@@leonnehaaijman4709 No, I think someone assigned to WATCH (they rotated throughout the shift to staff the WATCH desk) ended several years ago. The position still exists but they respond with their unit now, as I understand it.
I’m a retired firefighter/EMT, retired in 2017, living in a medium large city in the south. Won’t say the state, but that doesn’t matter. We have the same nonsense from citizen drivers here as well. The worst drivers are those who go into a panic and don’t know what to do and freeze up. I was making a run to a structure fire in the far eastern part of our run district. I was in the opposing lane going east in west bound at a 4 way intersection. Pretty much had everyone’s attention and they stopped, except this one smaller car headed north with 2 girls in it. The driver looked right at me, laughed, and pulled her car in front of my truck and stopped, laughing the whole time. I really wished that for once there was a cop nearby, but I never was that fortunate. They finally moved enough so I could get around them. Driving emergency vehicles is literally an art form because you haven’t a clue what a driver will do and you can’t take for granted the people will do what they’re supposed to do. Fortunately I never had an accident, but it’s happened way too much. Years ago, I told my chief that Lockheed’s stealth technology was a waste of money. Paint those aircraft red, put a red flashing light and a siren on them and no one can see them!
I was told by a friend in the London Fire Brigade a few years ago that if their truck is blocked by a vehicle that shouldn’t be where it is, they are authorised to push it out of the way with their truck. The owner is charged for any damage to the truck. I’m not sure how true it is now.
manuel martin why expensive? It’s literally less than 5 seconds for a car to get across. Now if they are purposefully cutting in front of a fire truck, then yes. Give them a ticket or maybe even pay for the damage dealt at the call they were going to. Sweet revenge 😈
Stafford Northern Railroad I have seen where incidents have involved police being hit etc while on call due to drivers not paying attention. They got reported for driving without due care and attention. Perhaps dash cams and then report such issues to the police, any accidents would involve the police anyway though I’m sure as their cars would be demolished by these fire engines. New York seems to be really bad for drivers not giving way to emergency vehicles sadly, especially with the air horns.
@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast i dont think you would feel the same way if you or your family was the one that needed the truck to help survive.seconds count on alot of situations and it tells me that when emergency lights and sirens cant get your attention to move well that driver probly had no clue about whats going on around them it goes deeper them seconds delay .its bad dangerous driving with a narrow mind and not giving a shit what or who os around them .for you to think its about money anfd to much to spend haveing a cop follow well your more then likely a person who will block emergency trucks .so rethink your ignorence and remember your mot the only one on the rd and it may be you needing that truck one day hope not but you never can tell .
4:06 It is hard to see in the video, but it looks like the fire apparatus had a red light. From my training as a former volunteer Firefighter and EMT, we were taught that with your lights and siren, you are “asking for the right of way”…….ESPECIALLY when you enter an intersection. Yes, people are supposed to yield to emergency vehicles, but if you have a green light or can’t see them when entering a blind intersection (I.E. - high rise buildings on both sides, blocking your view), you may not be able to stop. It is the responsibility of the emergency vehicle driver to exercise “due care and caution” when entering intersections, and make sure that everyone around sees you and stops, before entering the intersection.
Amazing. In England Fire Appliance drivers get no special legal entitlement, they have to treat joe public like any other road user. You can speed but if you have a crash, you have to be able to justify why you were speeding. I was driving on a fire call when a car stopped for me and the car behind, hit the car in front from behind. When I got back to the station the driver of the car that hit the car in front was waiting for me and wanted my insurance details saying it was my fault. Also you are not suppose to use the sirens unnecessarily and not between 23.00 and 07.00 (only if no option). Crossings have to be passed at 5 MPH etc. The horns are used in England but rarely and drivers are trained to have low expectations of UK drivers skill levels. Also there are no laws or fines for drivers who don't yield to fire engines. The only time I ever got into a spot of bother was on the M25, attending a RTC. Arriving at the job my Station Officer was pointing at me to put the pump in one direction and a Police officer was pointing at me to put the pump in a different direction. I ignored the copper and did what my Station Officer wanted. A few minutes, later I got bollocked by my StnO for ignoring the copper. With a smile on his face he said, "you've been bollocked, don't ignore the instructions of a Police Officer, its an offence". Only in England.
Special privileges for emergency vehicle vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania, there are state laws and departmental guidelines that dictate how the driver of any emergency vehicle must operate it. They basically just boil down to keeping your head on a swivel, don't let the lights and sirens give you tunnel vision, and don't drive so bat shit insane that it gets a cop's attention.
Emergency drivers are responsible for the safe and effective parking of the vehicle, not some random plod who thinks they know best. Your SO was in the wrong.
What is remarkable is the old fire houses can support modern fire trucks . I did inspections for the old gasoline tanks and the apparatus floors were jacked up 18 inches apart with pole jacks lol
I think that they should be able to push people out the way when on a call and charge the other drivers to fix any damage that happens and get a big big ticket
My volunteer station is right on the main street in town, often when we are backing in people are trying to go around or pull in front of us it's frustrating
Wow really amazing the driving skills of those engine drivers, they even stopped trying not to hit those irresponsible drivers, people needs to realize any second counts!!!
All New Yorkers should be required to take a class and a test on how to behave in the presence of emergency vehicles. Failure to do so would result in the revocation of their DL.
I've thought about speakers to the sides before, I think that could be a good idea. Getting through intersections is usually the hardest part so to have any extra warning is better. Not sure if it actually would be effective in the real world though
Give them the benefit of the doubt they are busy responding they deserve alot of credit tons of it let's stop and honor and appreciate the paramedics and firemen and police and sheriff who proudly serve us your service and time and efforts are deeply appreciated thanks they might be responding to your needs !! Well to be fair, the first clip wasnt only the civilians fault. Going through the straight lane to then immediately turn right and expect every driver to notice the tiny indicator light is a bit dangerous. Although the driver should´ve waited of course, it wasnt just the civilians fault.
No, drivers are required by law and expected by responders to pull to the right and stop or just stop. Emergency vehicles are not supposed to pass on the right for that reason. If a fire engine tries to pass on the right and the driver quickly pulls to the right to get out of the way as they are supposed to and there is an accident it most likely will be the driver of the engines fault. If the civilian would have done what they were supposed to do everything would have been fine. Everything was done perfectly by the driver of the fire engine.
Smh is this comment trolling? That is why the public is expected to pull over and stop. You have no idea where the vehicle is trying to go. Emergency vehicles are taught to pass on the left at all times. You really think emergency vehicles are subjected to driving only in the lanes of traffic as designated? Turn in your license
This video prove that too many idiots have driving licences. Failure to yield to a emergency vehicule responding should be a immediate revocation of the licence and at least a 2000$ fine.
Had a kid dying in the back of my truck, not breathing with severe burns from scalding water. Cars branched out and blocked every single way I had to get through a red light. The “dying kid” isn’t just a hypothetical. Sometimes it is someone’s child in the back, and drivers are sitting on their phones with no clue you’re even there.
I wonder if it is because the sound bounces of all of the buildings so you dont know where its coming from. I remember walking in the city and not knowing which direction it was coming. Until i had eyes on it.
WELL, IT REALLY DIDN'T MATTER IF THEY WERE RETURNING TO THE STATION OR WHATEVER ELSE THEY WERE DOING! PEOPLE NEED TO RESPECT THE LAW AND OUR EMERGENCY SERVICES. THX.

@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 I hope you know that was sarcasm 🤣 I don't understand all these people!
Apparently lol
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 🤣
New York should install emergency lights and program sequences on their traffic control systems. We have them in Minnesota. If an emergency vehicle approaches a controlled interesting, all directions except for the direction it is traveling turn red, allowing for the intersection to be cleared. It's a great system, and it shocks me when I see videos without such systems in place.
THEY HAVE SOME IN PLACE. THX.
I TOTALLY AGREE! NICE TO HEAR FROM YA AGAIN PAL AND THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
I mean if u get paid minimum wage and have time limit or get fired I'm sure they wouldn't give a shit if someone is dying
What's the problem at 1:00? The truck wasn't moving at all, wasn't even reversing as the crews still got out ...
IDK....
Did that suv honk back at the fire truck at 00:40??? Hope not
PROBABLY.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
I could not be a chauffeur in NYC. I would be disciplined for ramming the idiots that didn't pull over or move out of the way
HEHEHE! I HEAR YA.....THANKS SO MUCH SEAN.....
The way the siren toned down at 4:48 really caught me off guard lol. I've never heard a Q do that.
COOL.....OK.....
It's because it's a eQ2B, it's a digital version of a Q2B siren.
3:35 both drivers are doing what is called riding the wake which is illegal to do
OK, THANKS SO MUCH.....
That cycleist at 3:31 almost got squashed but instead got a migrane from Tower 21 Air horn
HAHA!
Matthew Steeden hè could have blown away because of the noise if he was stupider than he was
Hahaha!
LOL 3:36 the horn set a car alarm off🤣
OK.....
And they still say ohh sorry I didn't see you
People are so careless these days it's terrifying all it does is put first responders at risk as well as the people they are trying to save
YES, I AGREE! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
you could say the same about the firefighters who become arsonists so they can put the fire out and be seen as heroes after.
Here in Lee County failure to an emergency vehicle is 4 points and a mandatory court date
Part of the issue now is cars are better insulated so it's hard to hear emergency vehicles, not impossible, but hard. I can only imagine what it's like in places with high rises like NYC.
YES I AGREE!
Goes to show that people don't care while there driving , not all but some don't. I salute too you first responders you really have a tough job just getting there to help people, and some day those people that get in your way while you are on there way to help them, some idiot may will get in there way and because a delay at there crushable moment . Karma has a strang way of paying people back.
At the clip starting at 4:48, the way the siren died down was hilarious. Sounded like something duying.
HAHA!
Poor horn gave up on life for a second
I think it started questioning its life choices. Probably due to all the idiots who ignore its cries of anguish.
Rude, reckless drivers in NY? … Shocking!
I could never be a driver engineer in New York I'd have so much road rage with all the damn drivers
I HEAR YA.
Hi
imagine the people (who were blocking the fire trucks) houses were on fire and by blocking the first responders their houses burned down. Karma can be a bitch
I HEAR YA AND AGREE! THANKS SO MUCH.....
You figure these people have a little bit more respect after what happened to the firefighters on September 11th
I AGREE! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
People don't give a shit anymore Matt.
People have long forgotten about 9/11.

*(EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS)* THX for posting this video exposing a hidden frustration/a hidden stress/a vaguely spoken of unnecessary burden placed upon 1st responders everywhere, that can EASILY BE FIXED FOR FREE, FREE.....IT'S SAD when spoken of in this manor, EXTREMELY SAD!!!! 😢 So EVERYONE please BE A HERO to heroes by relieving them mentally, emotionally & physically by yielding to emergency vehicles.
OK, THANKS AGAIN! YOU LEFT A COMMENT EARLIER ALREADY!
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 Thanks for the replies, I did post two comments, one comment was mostly my aggravation for those dumb ass💩drivers & my anger came out thru that comment but that emotion was only directed towards them. Another emotion I got was appreciation, appreciation for the work you put into filming & then creating this video exposing these things that people do. I posted the second comment in hopes of reaching as many people as possible to sensibly explain what issues, stresses, emotions & concerns these seemingly small things that people do daily cause & create for 1st responders worldwide.........yet cost no money, require no specialized training/education & are simple to fix. I know you are familiar with all of these things, so I'm not preaching to you & I also know you have a great deal of respect for 1st responders by just watching your vids(especially this one)........SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO, MY FRIEND. 👍🙌
Great video! That's some crazy ass drivers!
YES AND THX.
NO, SADLY I DO NOT! ;o(
Edward, really? I thought there'd always be someone left in the building, like a janitor or dunno.. someone who can do just that: close the doors so the firefighters can get on with it.
@@leonnehaaijman4709 No, I think someone assigned to WATCH (they rotated throughout the shift to staff the WATCH desk) ended several years ago. The position still exists but they respond with their unit now, as I understand it.

THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
I TOTALLY HEAR AND UNDERSTAND.....SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST PLAIN IGNORANT INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
JJ THANX FOR HIGHLIGHTING THIS PROBLEM WE HAVE HERE .
I CAN'T PUT THE THINGS I SAY ON HERE .WHEN WE GET THE RUN ,..😉
YOUR WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
I was told by a friend in the London Fire Brigade a few years ago that if their truck is blocked by a vehicle that shouldn’t be where it is, they are authorised to push it out of the way with their truck. The owner is charged for any damage to the truck. I’m not sure how true it is now.
IDK EITHER.
Rare to see a FDNY Truck with Chrome wheels.
YUP......
Thank you guys
THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
Cops should be rite behind them and just hand out huge expensive tickets. Problem solved
I AGREE AND THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
manuel martin why expensive?
Apparently firetruck drivers have an incredibly large amount of tolerance for stupid drivers. I'd probably get fired the first week!
HAHA! YUP! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
Nice compilation John! Out West we call those drivers "idiots!!" Stay safe Laddie!
I HEAR YA.....OUT HERE WE CALLED THE THAT TOO.....HEHEHE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
COOL. THANKS SO MUCH.....
Excellent compilation
THANKS SO MUCH.....
3:30 That cyclist is lucky he's still alive!
YUP......
What is remarkable is the old fire houses can support modern fire trucks . I did inspections for the old gasoline tanks and the apparatus floors were jacked up 18 inches apart with pole jacks lol
COOL AND THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
It sucks because some people have someplace to be and yeilding to FDNY OR ANY EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONDERS takes too much time.
IT IS TERRIBLE IS WHAT IT IS.....
Why the hell some people are so stupid and selfish?
I KNOW......THANKS SO MUCH.....
I think that they should be able to push people out the way when on a call and charge the other drivers to fix any damage that happens and get a big big ticket

All New Yorkers should be required to take a class and a test on how to behave in the presence of emergency vehicles. Failure to do so would result in the revocation of their DL.
Solution: LOUDER HORNS! OK for real this time, maybe speakers to the side, as they mostly point forward.
Also maybe a PA system like they have in most police cars.
OK.
And put a real Q siren on them trucks. If people complain, they don't deserve to live in NYC.
John, I meant to ask, do you have a fire station near your home? I think it's Ladder 25 that I've seen emerge from the side street several times when you record from your window (or balcony) ;)

OK. THX.
Well to be fair, the first clip wasnt only the civilians fault. Going through the straight lane to then immediately turn right and expect every driver to notice the tiny indicator light is a bit dangerous. Although the driver should´ve waited of course, it wasnt just the civilians fault.
OK.

IT IS VERY SAD INDEED THAT PEOPLE ACT INTHAT MANNER RISKING PEOPLE'S LIVES......
