  • In the second season of the Mandalorian, Din Djarin joins forces with Bo-Katan Kyrze former soverign of mandalore and leader of the nite owls. While Bo-Katan might seem like just another ally for Din Djarin to team up with, she actually has a pretty twisted and complex past. We take a look at who Bo-Katan used to be when she was a member of the Death Watch.

I agree, but I think this was done on purpose by the writers. She blames the children of the watch for the very thing she did. She is bitter and self-loathing. I think this is a character flaw the writers have given her that she can slowly overcome and redeem herself in the eyes of the audience and the mandalorians in the story.

You just don't understand how Mandalorian society works. Mandalorians are proud warriors, train from childhood to become fierce combatants. Martial prowess and honor are two concepts very important in their culture. And they even have a creed every Mandalorian need to follow.
From Bo-Katan's point of view, Satine was destroying Mandalorian culture and was not, by any mean, a Mandalorian since she was not following the creed or having any martial prowess.
Yes she was okay with Pre Vizsla killing her sister because :
      - Satine was not a Mandalorian from her point of view.
      - Satine was destroying Mandalorian culture, weakening Mandalore.
      - Pre Vizsla was her Mand'alor and loyalty to Mand'alor is something very important for any true Mandalorian warrior.
By the way, Maul was not Mandalorian either so when he took the throne, it was obvious she would not follow him. She's not hypocrite, she's just being Mandalorian.

yeah, and with complete disregard of how the ancient Mandalorian way was to accept any and all species within the fold. The original Mandalorian species who decided that, wasn't even human. They were essentially the Star Wars equivalent of Predators and the original natives of Coruscant.
The only reason humans ended up being the largest racial group within the Mandalorians is because most of the planets around where the Mandalorians started recruiting and invading with that ideology of Mandalorians being a culture, not a species happened to be populated by a lot of humans.
Bo-Katan would likely never want to accept Grogu has an actual Mandalorian foundling. On the other hand, the Armorer was all for it.
Bo-Katan and those of Death Watch who left with her after Maul won were prejudiced and cherry picking rules and codes of the Ancient Mandalorians that fit their personal agenda. On the other hand, the Mandalorians from Death Watch who stayed with Maul and accepted him were actually the ones following the real ancient traditions.
They weren't good people either, but I can at least respect their firm will to their ideology when they became actually loyal to Maul. Well, not all of them were truly loyal. Some like Gar Saxon were in it only for the power that came with it while some others like Rook Kast were genuinely loyal towards Maul.

Or blaming the children of the watch for the downfall of mandalore when she was the one ruling mandalore during the purge. She couldn't even maintain her grasp of the darksaber against Moff Gideon and she never even earned it through battle in the first place. She was so divisive when it came to the mandalorians it's insane. Dutchess Satine lead Mandalore to one of their greatest economical booms almost overnight and Bo Katan wanted to overthrow her own sister, only being upset that her sister was killed by an "outsider" one that she propped up to take control. Almost all of the disasters that fell on Mandalorians from the clone wars and on are a direct result of her bad leadership.

I think that's the thing I actually like about Bo Katan. She is actually a pretty terrible person who took part in dooming her people, getting her sister killed and pitching her people into a brutal civil war that would ultimately completely wipe Mandolore off the map. Yet, her principles is literally all she has left, because any attempt to change has resulted in tragedy. In particular, I love how she's eyeing up the Mandolorian with the Darksaber, both wondering whether she could kill him for it or remain honourable. This is despite the fact that Din really, really doesn't care and just wants to leave in sharp contrast to his even stricter honour system.
She is a cruel person I love to see on screen because she is both noble and deeply flawed. Bound to a honour system that, frankly, was an excuse to seize power that went wrong, and has spent the rest of her life paying for her rebellion.

First of all, thank you! I don't generally agree with your takes on Star Wars, but this really needed to be said. Bo-Katan was nothing short of utterly vile during her appearences in the original run of TCW, that's what made her a fan-favorite. She was a badass bad girl, like Ventress before her.
While I understand in-universe she changed since then, the problem is, she had a serious lack of on-screen development. Maybe, if Disney didn't cancel TCW, she would've gotten a proper redemption-arc, but the way Rebels and TCW S7 The Mandalorian brought her back, and just pretended that she's a Jooan of Arc figure for Mandalore was really, really irritating (the scene where she throws Satine's murder at the hands of Maul in Obi-Wan's face is stomach churning, especially considering loyal she was to Pre Vizsla, who told her to her face, that he was going to kill Satine). Katee Sackhoff's interview with ScreenRant seems to imply that they're finally going to address her crimes this season, so that's something I'm actually looking forward to, and I've been lukewarm towards The Mandalorian at best.

During the whole 2nd season she was hellbent for it I fear she's taken to the allure of power but knows not to cross tradition like before. In many respects Bo-Katan is a powerful and confident warrior but she's without honor given her tutelage by Pre Visla for she is willing to do whatever it takes to secure what she wants. For now she seems reluctant to challenge Din Dijarn, but who knows what she will do in the new season if she will be indeed honorable or succumb to her worser impulses to take what she wants for she demonstrated in the assault on Gideon's bridge how ruthless she is and willing to achieve her goals no matter the cost.

There's two things I'd like to say about Mandolorian culture and the show. I think That Din IS the mando that his people need. He was willing to hear out Bo and accept boba as a mando, yet still stuck to his own beliefs. I think Grogu and his adventures have changed him, and he could be what his people need. A unifier. I think the force brings the dark saber to those who are worthy of it, Sabine just turned away from the call.
    OR...
The mandalorain alluded to in the title, is in fact Grogu. That his hybrid upbringing from jedi to mando is closing the thousand-year circle. The dark saber started as a mando jedi, and will return to one.

@@Theosake I was bullied by my siblings right through to college, I was also targeted by extend family. Likewise, I was bullied at school, right through to High school graduation and even have signatories that say stupid shit like "Haha I ruined your project in grade 9 socials studies and I don't regret it". I was once left in the US (I'm Canadian and was visiting) because my mother was upset about a package of fabric that was supposed to arrive that SHE mislabeled and so it got sent back to the sender. My sister decided to treat me like her 12 year old child for this event and blame me, an adult disabled person, for the actions of a grown woman when I WASN'T EVEN IN THE SAME BUILDING, let alone the same room or the car with her. I can't make her print a paper map, so why was it my fault she didn't have one? After all this and plenty more, I still gave them multiple chances to behave like decent human beings and a) treat my like an adult equal and b) accept responsibility for their own adult actions.
More than 3 decades of abuse what I would call justification enough to cut them off. They had plenty, PLENTY of time and opportunities to them to behave in an appropriate manner, both by my trying to make contact AND my father trying to heal something beyond broken by talking to my siblings (it worked with my brother, not my narcissistic sister). THEY were given the choice and continued to behave like narcissistic brats.
I will not go to my cousins wedding and out of no warning have my mother jump on me, the DEAF person, from behind. Nor will I let my sister walk up to lecture me about my behaviour like a child when I'm over 40 years old. (And if I won't let THEM lecture me, what makes you think it's fine that YOU do it?) We are not there to deal with our shit and I will not ruin my cousins wedding getting upset because they decided to try and "fix things" in an innappropriate venue. (Just one of many, many things over the years)
You assume I got emotional. Did I say I got emotional? NO, I said I was the scape goat of a narcissistic family system. I WALKED AWAY when my narcissist sister tried to AMBUSH me at a family function. If she wants an apology from me or wants to apologize TO me, it won't be at a family function because that is a recipe for a problem right THERE. If she wants to accept responsibility, or not, it won't be on happenstance or, "Oh good, two birds withone stone."
I appreciate what I did and earned for myself. I also never said we were rich. I said High achieving, which meant you got good attention for good grades, and bad attention or nothing at all or for something that wasn't seen as successful, and for everything else, and that was my extended family too, not just my nuclear family.
For example: in my extended family anyone who graduates high school or post secondary (especially prestiguous university) education is celebrated. I have a master's degree, but because I was the visually easy target and scape goat I barely got a hello how are you where every other family member that was typically presenting had a party to celebrate their achievement.
At age two I learned that my needs (learning language through ASL) were secondary to my family. As soon as I was ffited with hearing aids, I lost all contact with ASL, my FIRST language, for over a decade because it was more convenient. I still have immediate family that tip toe quietly and use all the lights because they "forget" I'm deaf and sounds don't wake me but lights do. My sister even used sign language with her hearing infants but never with me, a deaf person who is fluent since more than 30 years as part the Deaf community.
So should I still accept and appreciate their mean words despite a literally lifetime of being the punching bag? I think not.

This is the biggest problem with Disney, they don’t understand their characters, nor care.
Bo Katan Kryze is *not* a hero of the people, she was not a loving and compassionate sibling, aunt, daughter, or person, she *Never* truly cared about her people, and the absolute last thing she ever approached being was a leader… Bo Katan is a self centered, power hungry, openly sadistic, genocidal, psychopath. One who openly lamented the very crimes and destructive events facing her people that she herself brought upon with a smile on her face. One who denies any responsibility of the current situation Mandolore’s when she was bitch that got them in the situation in the first place. But above all else, especially if you remove all the good she has done, Bo is unworthy. Unworthy of leadership, unworthy of her family name, unworthy of mandolore, and unworthy of her position in the canon setting. Pre canceled clone wars showed me the truth about the Mandolorians as a race and I have had no interest or sympathy for them since. The Truth the maul exploited to take over in the first place. The Truth that is making the creator of the Darksaber roll in his grave whenever we see his creation. And Bo Katan is a poster child of that truth. A truth that Satine did everything to try and finally end, that Reven saw upon one look on Mandolore the Ultimate, and that Bo herself has not nor ever will accept about herself or her people.
And the worse part is Disney cannot nor will not accept that truth about her, nor about mandolore. Because they and their agenda cannot come to terms with the harsh reality of that truth.
And that truth, is that Bo Katan Kryze and the Mandolorians are *evil.* Evil in its most pure form. The kind that relishes in the suffering of others, that refuses accountability for anything they do, that will and must blame anyone and everyone else for their own crimes and why they commit them. The kind that will see every one else as the villain abut never themselves. More than simple evil, they are unworthy evil honor-less scum.
That’s it, that’s all you have to say on this topic. Except for this…
    Fuck Deathwatch…
    Fuck Bo Katan…
    And most importantly… Fuck Mandolore!
