Congratulations on beating DS1 for the first time. This game is really special to me. I remember staring at the ceiling when I got to those credits just lost in thought and feeling empty. Like "wtf did I just play?" Then I immediately ran NG+, certain I was missing something. What a truly amazing game despite the rushed development towards the end.

@@ThePeteriarchy Not to sound rude but it's not really as if there was any superior skill or experience at display here. Pretty much every area and boss was beaten by facetanking + R2. I'm not even saying she should have played it differently, it's the game's fault for being like this. It's actually rather ridiculous how poor the design of the game must be if it becomes this easy as soon as you use a build that isn't just a complete mess.
@@senshy290 It took her about 32 hours to beat the game which is pretty much on par with how long a first playthrough of the game would take, also she wouldn't be getting lost every 5 minutes if she did play before
The journey has finally come to an end. It was so fun to see Calli play throughout the entirety of Dark Souls and her reaction to the moments that all Souls players came to love about the game! Praise the glorious Sun!!!
DS1 is a real classic. I can tell by how into its world and presentation you were by the end that it totally clicked for you how these games came to obtain the cult following they have
I think the closest thing that's come to perfectly replicating the specific feel of Dark Souls 1 (even better than some later Souls games) is Hollow Knight

Congrats on clearing Dark Souls 1, with some very fitting headgear. It's not a perfect game, but it's always fun to try a different build when replaying it. I hope one day you get to play the game that started it all, Demon's Souls.

It's intriguing how different the bosses can be in this game, some are easier than others for sure. But even a lot of common enemies can be no joke when you have to run a gauntlet to reach some bosses. Congrats on Call for finally beating the game! \[T]/ Also RIP to Siegmeyer
As someone who hasn't played any of the Dark Souls games yet, I am pretty interested to see what 2 and 3 will be like. I heard a few times of certain aspects of DS2 being repurposed into Elden Ring and I thought that was super cool. Wish me luck as I try to finish the Elden Ring DLC
It's definitely a very different game, where the bosses are much less cinematic than they are in future games, and the boss run is almost accounted in the difficulty as they very, very rarely have checkpoints right outside the fight. Still, the design philosophy hasn't actually changed that much, funny enough.
I also feel like your builds in older games changed your method of fighting much more, like how Calli's tank build is so, so different from a speedy build closer to the current games. Tanky builds absolutely annihilate Four Kings and Gwyn, for instance.
As for 2 and 3, 3 is actually very close to ER in terms of presentation and quality, just all through linear levels like this game. 2 kind of just did 1 again, but added some new mechanics on top.
@@ryangallagher8194 Tank builds do seem a bit fun. Also thanks for the insight. Things do seem fairly consistent overall, though it's neat how much has stayed the same and other aspects changing along the way with newer entries
It has been a great playthrough. I'm glad you were able to appreciate the game. Now all those hours of lore videos will make you appreciate it even more, good for a plane ride. I know we've talked about DS2 & 3 but please do consider Demon's Souls on your PS5 if perms permit. It too is a worthwhile look.
4:38:54 I really love when Calli, only from her experience playing dark souls, said that the game being ambiguous leaves a lot to the player's imagination, which she finds it neat.
Finally caught up on the DS1 playthrough and it reminded me of a game you might enjoy called Lunacid. It's like a first person souls game with PS2 style graphics. Beautiful music and intriguing lore. Oh and there's a chill deadbeat named Clive who likes to chill at the bar ☠️

Lol, the bug with the Centipede Demon happened to me too. He got stuck in the ceiling, I could still see his legs. I just ran around the edge of the room where I could until he at some point dropped out of bounds and died.

It was here that the reaper known as calliope Mori finally defeated the game known as dark souls one. She tap danced on the corpses of the DLC and rather easily beat the final boss..... Like seriously she just destroyed that guy in less than a few seconds it didn't even feel like a fight. Anyway from there she proceeded to make a decision of either to burn the place or to let it just solve itself out and of course he decided to burn the place and sacrifice herself. No one knows what happened to this legendary Warrior but we the audience definitely know. Great job in beating dark souls one all joking aside it's been fun and I hope you play the rest of the games. Thanks for the fun stream Calli!
This was one of my favorite playthroughs of all time, if not my single favorite one. Couldn't catch it live, but I had SO much fun watching the VODs and seeing Calli getting immersed (and lost ) in this wonderfully intricate and interconnected world that Fromsoft created.
It also reminded me of just how much I love this game! It has been over 6 years since I last played DS1 and, while I obviously remebered loving it in general, time makes you forget the specifics, like all of the tiny little details that come together to make this game such a special experience. And experiencing it for a second time with Calli and all of the Pastbeats in chat felt truly special!
So thank you Calli for letting me to experience one of my favorite games ever as if it were the first time once again, and I can't wait to see you play DS3 . And always remember to be careful out there! Neither of us wants to see you go hollow ❤

Man, what a good time this was. While DS3 is one of my favorites, I hope she gets to DS2 and its DLC. Yes, it's the best of Souls, but even the worst of Souls is still a good game.

Congrats! You really flew this one! I think it would be a good choice to play DS3 next then circle back to DS2. I remember DS3 having a lot of call backs to DS1 while DS2 felt more like a separate story.

The orange ring is only obtained after defeating the demon, why does she have it? 🤔
You talking about the lava walking? She cut the head of the demon and that gives the ring before finishing the fight.

the dragon butts are there because this is the graveyard of the dragons that the 3 lords + seath fought (but they are still partially alive)
This playthrough really highlights how much of the mystical "Dark Souls difficulty" is really just due to poor tutorialization and unintuitive mechanics. The main reason why people struggle is because they go through the game massively underpowered in both stats and knowledge.
There are so many important mechanics or interactions that the game simply never tells you about and if you don't discover them by accident then you never will. So players are only able to guess and experiment but then the game will also ruthlessly punish you for experimentation because the systems are so rigid that you can't amend your choices later even if you realize that something is useless.
But now look at what the game becomes once you actually use a build that focuses your resources somewhat effectively (which should usually be a *basic* thing in a videogame). Suddenly it's one of the easiest game's ever where you can steamroll everything without paying attention to attack patterns or anything and will only really die to jank and gravity.

Another Fromsoft game slain. Its been really fun to relive the older Souls games like this. I'm hoping we get DS3 soon since it gives a satisfying conclusion to the Souls arc for Fromsoft. I think DS3 is best played immediately after DS1, or you let it bake for a while. Either you immediately get the reference to a previous game, or you don't realize it until you connect the dots from your memory. Can't wait to see what you choose as your playstyle next time \[T]/

Just wanted to say that while I love DS2, going to DS3 is the right decision. DS2 has a lot of experimental systems, and while there are some great new mechanics, there are some pretty bad ones. And the gameplay is so different that a lot of people going to it from DS1 get frustrated by the changes. I do recommend it, but you really need to go into it knowing about the changes.
2 being something of a side story compared to 1 to 3 being a more direct follow up definitely feels better. 2 is also just really, really long. I feel like it'd be as well regarded as 1 if they just took the best 60% of it and cut the rest, but it has a lot of areas that feel like they're just there to stretch things.
Speaking of those mechanics, I also wish the game told me more directly about powerstancing, as I went the whole first playthrough, doing a dex build, without knowing it existed.
My Oshi is better at games than me.
