This dude is super humble, comes across and a great guy who after all these years of playing still loves it as much as the first day he picked up a guitar. He basically did this interview/run down all by himself, he is an endorsers dream. No wonder Fender look after him so well.
Agreed. Never really been a fan of his playing but this was one of the best rig rundowns I've ever seen, right up there with Nels Cline. I'll have to give him another chance.
To be fair, no I have not. I've just never been a huge fan of that scene of music. I've always liked Rob Zombie though, just never gotten deep into that style. I'm coming around though now.
Chris Brock hope in the years you’ve had a chance to hear his playing. He’s no one trick pony. He plays classical, Spanish, chicken pickin’, Jazz, blues, and, of course, rock/metal/shredding...
After all these years, still my favorite rig rundown, by my still, favorite guitarist, J5. I became a devotee many years ago when I left a random comment on one of his facebook pictures about enjoying the struggle in trying to learn to play one of his songs. The dude took the time to write a novel in return for everyone in the thread on the tricks he used to make the song. It was like a damn Jedi divining a skill onto his trainee's. The way he said it was filled with wisdom, and it made sense; and damn... it nailed what I needed to know to nail his song. The guy gives a lot back to his people, and he genuinely seems to know that he's in an amazing place in life. Somehow, he was raised to want to lift others up with him. A true class act of an artist.
You would love my rig too. Currently it's a Marshall CODE25, with a Boss GT-8 depending on the songs I'm playing. If I don't need extra stuff, I won't use the GT-8. I only play with that when I have songs with multiple tones.
i like him too. that minimalist pedalboard give me inspiration to continue focus on the playing more since i only have a tuner pedal going infront of my engl amp.
I don't even like metal... but this is hands-down the BEST Rig Rundown because John 5 actually looks like he wants to be there and is clearly passionate about what he does.

John 5 is a tele man and what a great collection he takes on the road, and his great collection he has at home will blow your mind, thanks John5 and John Bohlinger my buddy in Nashville great interview !!!!

As someone like myself, who primarily only plays Telecasters, this is SO SICK... Didn't know too much of John 5 other than him being Rob's axeman, but now, I love this guy!
I know I'm repeating a lot of comments on here but he comes across as incredibly humble and kind on this video, you can tell he loves everything about guitars and it is one of the best rig rundowns I've seen
It’s amazing and extremely great to see how John has progressed and become so much more comfortable doing these. Nobody does a Rig Rundown better than Bohlinger.
John 5, Steve Stevens, Steve Morse...these are some of the artists that did their own rig rundowns and they all have the same thing in common...you can hear the absolute love they have for guitar as they do the rundown. So its no surprise that they'd be more than enthusiastic to take the time to talk about every detail of their gear as opposed to just sending out a tech to do it. The rundowns where the artist themselves do the interview are the coolest IMO.
Gotta respect him absolutely simple approach and gets an incredible sound. Basically a Tele, into 3 BOSS pedals( Noise Suppressor, Super Overdrive and Chorus) and into 2 Marshalls with 4 backups ( in awesome colors too by the way) Take note kids, modeling gurus and pedal fanatics: its all in the style!
He is such a great guy and his passion for playing and talking about guitars really shows. Btw, I am the 1000th comment on this video. I feel like I should get a cool treat, like maybe a John 5 pick or something. : )
RobZombie is a close second to STP for the best live show bands! Seen them three times and every time is better than the last! Theses guys are what R&R should be!
When I first saw a picture of John 5, I would have never guessed he would have talked like he does. That was 2 years ago, now a huge fan :) Great Guitarist and a really cool dude.
John 5, yes, it seems very boring and I'm sure my friends would make fun of me if I told them how much I love these vids, but it's totally true. The vids are great and I appreciate the guitarists, techs, and Premier Guitar for making these. It's amazing to see how much and how little goes into some guitarists sounds.
John 5 seems so cool. He is such a kind and talented artist. I really enjoyed this rundown. I wish all artist were as appreciative and informative as he was.
Freakin love John 5. He always seems so humble and you can tell he just loves every second of the ride. Gets to meet his hero’s and play his dream guitars. Good for him
John 5 has become one of my very few living guitar heroes. It's odd because he has played with a few big name bands, and even if the band isn't my cup of tea he just rips no matter what he's playing. Always a down to earth nice person and a true guitar/gear nerd. If ever a kid is looking for a talent and character to emulate in the guitar universe, John 5 and Paul Gilbert would be 2 of the best there are. (couldn't help it.. had to mention Paul Gilbert. Another one on the short list) Thanks

As someone like myself, who primarily only plays Telecasters, this is SO SICK... Didn't know too much of John 5 other than him being Rob's axeman, but now, I love this guy!
0:18 "That's not Rebecca Dirks..." - John 5
I know I'm repeating a lot of comments on here but he comes across as incredibly humble and kind on this video, you can tell he loves everything about guitars and it is one of the best rig rundowns I've seen
what a cool guy. would love to sit and jam with him any day of the week
Most down-to-earth rock star ever. Thanks for the rundown.
you know?
it's "Y'KNOW".... and it's exhausting listening to people like John 5 speak.
Luis Valdivia ever heard Jim Root of Slipknot talk? ya know comes out every 5 seconds
Luis Valdivia that's rad
It’s amazing and extremely great to see how John has progressed and become so much more comfortable doing these.
Nobody does a Rig Rundown better than Bohlinger.
What a great grounded guitarist. Just seems like someone I'd like to sit down and talk with. Great Rig Rundown.
John 5 is so rad! His guitars and amps are also rad! Rad dude!!!
John 5 has got to be the most down to earth, truly good people to ever be on rig rundown. You can truly tell he loves what he does.
Epic Telecaster collection
Gotta respect him absolutely simple approach and gets an incredible sound. Basically a Tele, into 3 BOSS pedals( Noise Suppressor, Super Overdrive and Chorus) and into 2 Marshalls with 4 backups ( in awesome colors too by the way)
Take note kids, modeling gurus and pedal fanatics: its all in the style!
Seems like a normal guy that is an absolute monster of a player. Would love to see him live. A true musician that lets his hands do the talking.
He is such a great guy and his passion for playing and talking about guitars really shows. Btw, I am the 1000th comment on this video. I feel like I should get a cool treat, like maybe a John 5 pick or something. : )
"its just so beaten, it's like your first kid or something" - John 5 2013- lol
one of the best rig rundowns. Some impromptu playing by john would have rocked it more. Great work gents, you are both great to watch and listen to
This is awesome. In the first four minutes we find out John 5 uses almost no pedals, and plays a guitar filled with anti-freeze. Yes.
RobZombie is a close second to STP for the best live show bands! Seen them three times and every time is better than the last! Theses guys are what R&R should be!
He is a nice guy and great on guitar..He is the real deal
Great guy, great interview. Amazing set of teles!
John is a super nice guy, thanks PG!
One of the best rundowns I have ever seen.
That's a real HE-MAN: 3 stomp boxes, all stock BOSS. Who needs boutique effects?
jspartacus his thinking is akin to Billy Duffy. Stuff can get replaced anywhere in the world....
Total respect for exclusive tele use. He's a great guitarist who has made alot of singers rock.
Despite his overuse of 'rad', I've gotta say, John 5 is an amazingly humble and earnest dude!!
John 5 is just the coolest dude ever. So down to earth, so articulate and so good playing the effing guitar! Always enjoy his interviews
Dear Premier Guitar, please do a rig rundown with Robin Finck while he's playin for NIN. Pleaseeeeee....
When I first saw a picture of John 5, I would have never guessed he would have talked like he does. That was 2 years ago, now a huge fan :) Great Guitarist and a really cool dude.
John 5 has the coolest Teles ever, I need a lava lamp guitar
LOVE THIS SIMPLE SETUP WITH JOHN5. HE DOES ALOT OF SESSION WORK AS WELL AND HAS A MASSIVE VINTAGE TELE COLLECTION.. GREAT GUY!
Yeah John we know.
Can't get enough of this guy. Love's Guitars, Love's Buying Guitars. Man after my own Heart. Let's go Guitar Buying John!!!!
John 5 seems like an awesome guy. great rundown too
Freakin love John 5. He always seems so humble and you can tell he just loves every second of the ride. Gets to meet his hero’s and play his dream guitars. Good for him
I love your rig rundowns, but perhaps either have the artist (or tech) mic'd or have two microphones: one for the host and the other for the artist.
Such a great dude! Keeps it simple and humble at heart. Just won a new fan!
This guy likes his Telecasters. I think he would have a field day with Jim Root. They could talk Teles all day.
Lol Nah. Jim Root is all about his new Jazzmasters haha
They actually did a song together bro!
Groovy
Yeah, y'know?
Outskirts of Infinity jim roots the man
John 5 has become one of my very few living guitar heroes.
Another one on the short list)
Thanks
John Motherfucking 5. what an awesome dude. always love seeing this guy. and he knows his shit, which nowadays you never know with these type of things
Coolness!
How can you not love the simple rig and setup!
Rig Rundown - Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt
MAKE IT HAPPEN
PEASE!!!
Was already my favorite player, then comes out and does this himself rather than a tech. Such a cool guy
