So they were embarrassed by him and abandoned him because of his collection but will become rich and famous off it now? I don't understand why there's a documentary and custom CGC label for these books. This story is awful. These books ruined a man's life and are benefiting those who hurt him. Screw these people.

The Batman just sold for $1.1million today (Thanks dad!) The cgc label should be a pedigree label with his father's name. Not this grifters movie production company. Dale should have burned it all before he passed away.

So the reporters and the family really need to stop referring to this man as a hoarder. Looks like he was a successful attorney to afford and collect all these books and keep them in such nice condition and if he was the one that sent everything to cgc to get graded then he knew what he was doing. If you've ever had to clean out a hoarder home you know this guy doesn't qualify.

He wasn't a hoarder. He was a collector. A hoarder would have had the comics piled high all over the house, in disarray. He had them slabbed or bagged and boarded in sophisticated collection rooms and safes. And even in the end, the ex-wife is still belittling the guy. She doesn't deserve any of it.

Even laymen thought they were going to get rich buying multiple copies of The Death of Superman lol. His father kew about collecting so it wasn't as if they lived in the backwoods. What his son thought growing up, we may never know, even in a movie.

While the collection appears organized now, we don't know the history of how things were stored over the decades. Some of the old photos show boxes of comics stacked everywhere and even jammed in a closet. The "sophisticated" collection rooms and safes you mention appear to be recent additions. The video also indicates the collection was left to his son, not the mother (who was divorced from the father.)

Well it’s sad that he resented his dad for collecting. My dad collected coins and I collected comics. Collecting was our common interest my whole life. Even though we collected different things we understood each other’s obsession with grails and collecting. And I don’t think they give this man enough credit. If he bought that Superman already graded he definitely knew it’s importance and scarcity because the CGC keeps a census of all the books graded so he would definitely know what else was out there graded and that his was one of the top.

Any family member who doesn't appreciate the items gets NOTHING. The list of rarities may help if any of the family members try to pilfer the collection before it is given to the selected source(s) designated in the will.

It’s common, to be judged by non collectors. I am judged everyday especially by those closest to me. And for a long time , I believed something was wrong with me. But my family has everything they need. I have a job, with benefits for my family, and yet I am still judged. I have sold much of my collection for the benefit of my family, but get no thanks for that, Nor do I expect thanks. But still get Judged. No matter what it’s not good enough in the eyes of a non collector family. Plus haters in the collecting community like to judge as well. It’s like we are not meant to fit in. Story of my life. Even through all that, I still find great joy in collecting. Now I realize, after watching this story, I won’t let them get me down. The world is bad enough , and collecting is an escape, a therapy. Judgement comes with the territory. I have made peace with that. Happy collecting everybody.
